Officer Who Confronted Trump Shooter Alerted a Blanket Tactical Channel About Armed Individual on Roof

The question is…did the Secret Service have access to the blanket tactical channel?

The officer who confronted Thomas Crooks, the guy who shot former President Donald Trump, alerted everyone on a shared tactical channel about the shooter on the roof.

The question is…did the Secret Service have access to the blanket tactical channel? Collin Rugg wrote:

NEW: Two police officers phoned into a “blanket tactical channel” to alert that an armed individual was on the roof moments before Trump was shot at the PA rally.

The million-dollar question: Why didn’t Secret Service rush to protect Trump in this moment?

Butler town manager Tom Knights says that the local police officer who “interrupted” Thomas Crooks was hanging from the roof after being lifted up by an officer.

Crooks then pointed his rifle at the officer which then forced him to fall.

The officer who fell and the officer who was holding him, radioed into a “blanket tactical channel” to notify that an armed individual was on the roof.

Knights said there has been no direct communication with members of the Secret Service to Butler officials.

It’s unclear how much time was between Crooks pointing his rifle at the officer and when the first shot rang out.

This is really getting more conspiracy intriguing

That is why I’m giving every piece of information its own piece. They all deserve their own attention. It’s hard not be a conspiracy theorist.

Still wondering how Crooks knew he could get on the roof,

Paula in reply to Skip. | July 17, 2024 at 4:01 pm

He knew he could get on the roof because he brought his own ladder with him.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to Paula. | July 17, 2024 at 4:05 pm

How did he bring it, on the roof of his Hyundai Sonata??

Crooks went to a Home Depot, where he bought a five-foot ladder, and to a gun store, where he purchased 50 rounds of ammunition, the official said.

Then, Crooks drove his Hyundai Sonata about an hour north, joining thousands of people from around the region who flocked to Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He parked the car outside the rally, with an improvised explosive device hidden in the trunk that was wired to a transmitter he carried, the official said. Then, investigators believe, he used his newly-bought ladder to scale a nearby building, and opened fire on the former president.

Yeah, I’ve read the reports, too.

So … the ladder fit inside his Hyundai Sonata – a sedan? And then Crooks was walking around the rally grounds carrying a ladder?? Someone must have that on video somewhere – a guy with a ladder walking around.

Yes, a 5′ ladder will. With a little room to spare, possibly.

maxmillion in reply to Paula. | July 17, 2024 at 4:48 pm

He developed this step-by-step plan, including the particular roof all by himself, or did he have help?

Skip in reply to Paula. | July 17, 2024 at 4:16 pm

Been reading from comments the ladder was put there ( saw picture of it) by the police, he supposedly climbed up by air conditioning units.

Another reason I wander how he knew he could get on the roof.

Just Al in reply to Skip. | July 17, 2024 at 4:27 pm

Sometimes you just try something and it works. Not everything is well planned.

        Think38 in reply to Skip. | July 17, 2024 at 6:15 pm

Reports differ. Previously, one report indicated that he bought a ladder at a nearby Home Depot (not by his house — an hour away).

Other reports today indicate that he was at the rally 3 hours before the Trump speech. In three hours, he had enough time to recon the area, determine where he could (and could not go), see an approach to the rooftop, leave, go buy a ladder, come back with gun and ladder, climb on the roof and shoot.

Some of those reports could be incorrect. However, the pattern is starting to emerge.

“he bought a ladder at a nearby Home Depot (not by his house — an hour away)”

Aw, how adorable! He was so sure nobody would ever Ruby him!

Morning Sunshine in reply to Skip. | July 17, 2024 at 6:46 pm

if her grew up there, it is possible he has climbed the roofs before. To every church I attended, I found at least one teen boy who was able to find a way to the roof – a friend’s shoulders, a convenient tree (how my son did it – the tree was trimmed within a month of the pastor finding out), the air conditioning units, the decorative brickwork on an older building… Crooks grew up here and knew the area and the local architecture.

      JohnSmith100 in reply to Paula. | July 17, 2024 at 4:28 pm

5′ ladder does not reach the roof, so it had to give him access to something climbable.

when will fb etc start blocking pro trump people from expressing their thoughts???

The more that comes out the worse it looks.

was ashli babbits murderer promoted to the ss ??

No, Michael would have shot most unarmed people in the crowd, people who were not really a threat, in order to “protect” the President, Probably would not shoot any armed individual who was an actual threat.

When this story first broke, I said I was curious if interoperable communications played any role here. Unsurprisingly, it seems it may have. Almost 23-years after 9/11, billions of dollars spent and federal statutes written, we still seem to have gigantic interoperable communications problems at the most critical moments.

    JohnSmith100 in reply to TargaGTS. | July 17, 2024 at 4:38 pm

Spread spectrum is great for security, but makes it nearly impossible to break into a channel, or even know it exists. Hedy Lamar invented the underlying concept in WW2, but it took micro chips to really bring it to life.

WTPuck in reply to TargaGTS. | July 17, 2024 at 5:01 pm

Yup. Even when people “saw something and said something.”

They had it under control, is why. Nobody’s in charge of out of control things.

The more we find out, the worse it looks for the Secret Service. And the more the SS claims they handled everything right and up to their usual world-class presidential protection standards and refuse to own up to their failure, the more people start thinking that the “failure” was deliberate.

This can be written down as conspiracy theory, but prove it wrong.

1. Name one person in the Federal government, in DC but not in Congress, at the director level or above, who doesn’t want Trump dead.

2. Schumer said in 2017, “Let me tell you, you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you.” After what they did to the Jan 6 protestors, no one should think the IC won’t take you out, if they want to do so.

3. How many billionaires would be happy to give up $100 million to get Trump dead? At least 2, Soros and Reid Hoffman. I’m sure there are more.

4. How many really rich people in Hollywood would refuse a donation of $1M or more to get Trump dead?

5. It is reported that a sniper team was in the building from which Thomas Crooks is said to have fired at Pres. Trump. Is it wrong to think it possible that the sniper team took the shot?

At best, the Secret Service is guilty of gross incompetence. At worst, they were part of the plan to remove Trump from the campaign.

The officer who confronted Thomas Crooks
The one who was startled by the shooter? The shooter started shooting just a second or two later. How was THAT call supposed to stop him before he fired? This is not where we hang our hats in terms of incompetence or maliciousness.

Now, all the people (including LEOs) who evidently encountered him for up to a half hour before he settled in? Oh yeah, let’s go there. The stupidity of people inside the building instead of controlling a perimeter? Oh yeah, let’s go there. The fact no one started to move the principal to safety? Yeah, let’s go there.

Morning Sunshine in reply to GWB. | July 17, 2024 at 6:48 pm

perhaps, the shooter was not going to fire yet – he was waiting for a better shot. But the interruption sped up his time table?

    just thinking out loud here

destroycommunism | July 17, 2024 at 4:35 pm

So how can the ss claim they know what they are doing

WHEN THEY INTENTIONALLY ,ON RECORD, hire people NOT based on merit but other features!!!

THE SCUM WHO FLEW THE PLANES INTO THE TWIN TOWERS

were dei hires

they didnt have to know how to actually fly the planes

just have the proper left wing agenda to destroy america

    JohnSmith100 in reply to destroycommunism. | July 17, 2024 at 4:47 pm

Like hiring a secretary because she gorgeous, I only made that mistake once. After that, I hired women who would not distract me.

henrybowman in reply to destroycommunism. | July 17, 2024 at 6:03 pm

No, they did have to know how to fly the planes, and they got trained to do that. What they didn’t need to know was how to land them.

Once a shooter is spotted, is it not allowed for a LEO to discharge a weapon in the air to make sure everyone knew there was a problem? If permitted, then the locals have an issue too.

    henrybowman in reply to jb4. | July 17, 2024 at 6:05 pm

Hell, no, you don’t do that anymore. It’s a public hazard.

Even the old “three shots if you get list in the woods” had better be aimed at something that stops bullets.

inspectorudy | July 17, 2024 at 5:00 pm

With only four months to go, Biden and his team of idiots will walk this one out to the end. There are so many questions that are unanswered that alone could be a conspiracy. One glaring issue is I am sure the SS and local LEOs were not on the same band of their radios. The SS uses a much more sophisticated radio than a local police force. Also, it has been reported that this was an enhanced SS unit because of a threat from Iran. My God! If this was enhanced, what would his normal unit have looked like? Does anyone expect the FBI, DoJ, USSS, or DHS to actually tell the truth?

WTPuck in reply to inspectorudy. | July 17, 2024 at 5:04 pm

No, the enhanced unit was deployed at the RNC Convention. The rookies and DEI hires were the ones at the rally Saturday.

WTPuck in reply to WTPuck. | July 17, 2024 at 5:19 pm

Whoops. I was wrong. They did say they had enhanced security for the rally. Doesn’t inspire confidence.

TargaGTS in reply to WTPuck. | July 17, 2024 at 5:45 pm

FWIW, Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) was on Cavuto and Neil asked him specifically about the ‘enhanced security.’ Green said he has seen no evidence there was any ‘enhanced security’ at that event and then said that was all he could say for the moment (presuming he was constrained by the classification of the briefing he attended earlier in the afternoon).

henrybowman in reply to WTPuck. | July 17, 2024 at 6:07 pm

“Enhanced” means every agent checked st least TWO intersectionality boxes.

Conspiracy theories abound about whether Biden, his Administration, the CIA, FBI, Secret Service, DOJ, were all part of this assassination attempt. This is utterly absurd, and all those idiots, including many of the commentators here on this blog, who believe it are insane. If anyone on the Democratic Left wanted to assassinate Trump, would they employ a 20-year-old bullied nerd, who lived at home with his parents, and who was employed as an aide who emptied bed pans at a nursing home, as the assassin? You have to be more senile than Biden to believe this.

stevewhitemd in reply to JR. | July 17, 2024 at 5:50 pm

Simple: a political assassination attempt very likely means the end of the assassin’s life. As was demonstrated, the SS will shoot to kill, and very quickly. To recruit a would-be assassin you have to choose from people who are either too stupid to realize this fact, or too personally low and desperate to care. In short, they are losers.

Lee Harvey Oswald. John Hinckley. Sirhan Sirhan. We can keep naming them. Losers, pretty much all of them.

Thomas Crooks was a good candidate because, as we are now coming to realize, he fit that profile. You wouldn’t have picked him out of a line-up as a loser at first glance, but he clearly didn’t care that, once he took the shot on that roof, he own remaining life was measured in seconds.

henrybowman in reply to JR. | July 17, 2024 at 6:13 pm

You just described Lee Harvey Oswald, Einstein.

    steves59 in reply to JR. | July 17, 2024 at 9:01 pm

LOL. Here’s Junior, the Democrat capability expert, to tell us why the Democrats aren’t capable of committing such a sad sack dog’s breakfast of incompetence and malice.
If you hate the commenters here that much, why are you here?

Seeing reports the USSS while not on the roof were in the building.
I would contend if they were in building, or anyone in would know someone was on that roof. It’s impossible to be silent walking around up on a metal roof.

TargaGTS in reply to Skip. | July 17, 2024 at 8:47 pm

It depends if it’s a 4-season building. If it is – and I suspect it probably is in PA – post-frame buildings with insulated roofs (often insulated with mineral wool in commercial applications) can be just as quiet as a stick-frame building with a traditional shingle roof. If it’s not insulated and just ‘pole-barn’ style then yes, someone walking around and laying down etc, would have likely been very audible, probably even with the crowd noise and whatnot.
