NJ School Apologizes for Exam Question That Described ISIS as a Terrorist Organization

“[The teacher] has failed his students and must be held accountable for this misinformation”

ISIS is a terrorist organization. What is the problem here?

The College Fix reported:

School apologizes for exam question on ISIS being a terrorist organization

A New Jersey middle school has apologized for a teacher’s exam which referred to The Islamic State, aka ISIS, as a “terrorist organization.”

According to The Post Millennial, the Schuyler Colfax Middle School teacher’s multiple-choice quiz question (below) stated “It is a terrorist organization that commits acts of violence, destroys cultural artifacts, and encourages loss of life in order to achieve its goal of global rule under strict Sharia law.”

Answers included The Shining Path, al Qaeda, the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), and (the correct response) Islamic State.

The group Teaching While Muslim posted on Instagram that the question was “NOT okay on a million levels” and claimed “We have seen anti Muslim & anti Palestinian sentiments, teachers, and content in our schools over and over again.”

It went to allege the 7th grade teacher’s question was “factually inaccurate” and another example of “US and Zionist propaganda.”

“[The teacher] has failed his students and must be held accountable for this misinformation,” TWM continued. “How many educators are bringing their prejudice and hate into their classrooms?”

TWM, which describes itself as “Muslim educators based in NJ working to actively include social justice, anti-racist & anti-Islamophobic curricula and educators in [NJ] schools,” also posted the school’s mission statement which says it helps students develop a “sense of responsibility, self-worth, and respect for others.”

It asked “how are your Muslim students supposed to foster self-worth […] with educators embodying this level of hate and prejudice?”

In a statement to the school community on June 20 posted by the group Wayne for Palestine, Schuyler Colfax Principal Heather Weinstein wrote that she “immediately launched an investigation” into the matter.

“The question was offensive and contrary to values of respect, inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity that we foster at Schuyler,” Weinstein said. “We apologize for this incident and understand the impact and deep concern.”

I would call out the teacher for improperly coding the answer key. I would argue that there should be an “all of the above” option after looking up The Shining Path. The US, Canada, EU, Japan and Peru all designate it as a terrorist entity.

By taking steps to hide the violent methods of Islam the TWM becomes a “terror sympathizer” and should be identified as such, rather than the school going after the teacher.

I think the key here is that Shining Path isn’t known for destroying cultural artifacts.

The other three options don’t fit all of the listed criteria. They’re all terrorist organizations, and two of them have the goal of “global rule under strict Sharia law”, but only one is known for also destroying cultural artifacts.

“TWM, which describes itself as “Muslim educators based in NJ working to actively include social justice, anti-racist & anti-Islamophobic curricula and educators in [NJ] schools…”

Hey, Danny — why don’t you tel us again about all the “good” Muslims?

There is another organization that might meet the criteria in the statement—the Taliban. Not included among the answers, though.

According to TWM, good Muslims don’t consider ISIS to be a terrorist organization.

Of course they don’t, fighting for the supremacy of Islam, and all methods used to achieve it, is morally upright in any devout Muslim’s mind. If Muhammad would have done it then it is good, by definition.

I guess ISIS is your run of the mill country club association serving ices on Sunday.

Apparently Weinstein thinks facts are offensive and contrary to values of respect, inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity.

Pretty much says it all about the Left.

Truth is out, propaganda is in, and Deplorables need to be sent to the gulag.

To: TWM, ISIS is a terrorist organization.

If your group can’t accept that fact, you are part of the problem, and your members are not educators.

That Described ISIS as a Terrorist Organization
…this misinformation
Ummm, ISIS is literally and legally a “terrorist organization.” I would sue you for defamation, if I were that teacher – you put out a lie, knew it was a lie, and did it to defame me. Give me all your money, bro.

There should be a bounty on every one of them.

I will wait for the followup to the investigation, wait for the teacher to be reprimanded and punished, and then I expect the Equal Protection Project to sue on the teacher’s behalf. No one should be punished for stating accurate facts.
