Australia: Six Murdered in Sydney Stabbing Terror Attack
“Police say a nine-month-old baby is among the eight injured in hospital.”
Six people were killed and several others injured, including a 9-month-old baby, in Sydney, Australia, when a knife-wielding man went on a deadly stabbing spree. “Five women and one man are dead following a man’s stabbing rampage at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre,” Australian public broadcaster ABC reported. “Police say a nine-month-old baby is among the eight injured in hospital.”
The attack took place on Saturday afternoon in a crowded shopping center in Sydney’s landmark Bondi Junction. The attacker, who was taken out at the scene by an armed police officer, was identified as a 40-year-old man ‘known’ to the police.
“The attacker has been identified as a 40-year-old man known to law enforcement, though police are waiting to formally identify him,” The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper confirmed.

Sky News Australia reported the details of the attack:
Police have provided fresh details after a man went on a stabbing spree inside a busy Sydney shopping centre, claiming the lives of six shoppers.
Emergency services descended on Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon after terrified shoppers raised the alarm.
The man – who is believed to have acted alone – first entered the centre about 3.10pm, left briefly and then returned about 3.20pm.
Police confirmed before 8pm the death toll had risen from five to six victims after the mother of a baby died in hospital.
Several other people have been rushed to hospital with serious injuries, including the nine-month-old baby who has undergone surgery.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb provided a brief update to media just after 8.30pm on Saturday evening.
She confirmed five women and one man had been fatally stabbed in the shopping complex.
The attack comes almost six months after Sydney witnessed a large pro-Hamas demonstration just days after the October 7 massacre, which resulted in the killing of 1200 Israelis and hostage taking of nearly 240 others. The anti-Israel protesters were reportedly heard chanting “Allahu Akbar” and “Gas the Jews.”
Appalling.

“A massive anti-Israel rally on the steps of the Sydney Opera House has sparked political condemnation and an investigation by Australian police after protesters were filmed chanting, ‘Gas the Jews’,” The New York Post reported October 10. “Around 1,000 protesters gathered outside Sydney’s iconic performing arts hall late Monday carrying flares and Palestinian flags and chanting ‘Gas the Jews,’ ‘F–k the Jews’ and ‘Allahu Akbar’ (Arabic for ‘God is great’), the troubling footage shared by the Australian Jewish Association showed.”
The same NSW Police who deemed “gas the Jews/where's the Jews” chants outside Sydney Opera House on Oct 9 as not antisemitic have assured the public todays Bondi Junction stabbings were not terror-related

Friday night’s attack is the deadliest terror incident in Australia since the 2014 Lindt Cafe siege. The attack was carried out by an Iranian-born Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist who barricaded himself in a Sydney cafe, killing four people and injuring several others.

Wish you had your guns now, eh?
Oh, dear me, no! Someone may have been hurt!
Who needs guns when you have knifes
And police are just 30 minutes away
Same with Tasmanian shooting…. Are they going to ban pointy knives? Count on it being brought up. A known wolf…..I doubt lily white Amish. As for cop being a heroine….only if hand to hand combat victory.
,
Remember the Rigby killing by two ..ah…. Newcomers in GB years back? Took a long time for a wanker cop to show up. By the way, self defense is not a valid reason to own a firearm in Oz, let alone use one that way.
Looks pretty white to me. Not German, though. Cauchi sounds Italian.
BBC has declared this a case of “right-wing violence”
Seriously?
No, not seriously.
It looks as if those “Knife-Free Zone” posters aren’t working.
The article is not clear that the attacker was shot and killed. by the woman police officer wh0 responded. She is a heroine. The shooter was a coward who attacked women and a baby. How despoicable.
The only shooter was the policewoman, whom you just declared a heroine. Cauchi had no gun, so he used a knife instead. Gun-grabbers will undoubtedly say “Imagine how much worse it would have been if he had a gun”. Gun-rights supporters will point out the opposite lesson, that someone determined to stage an attack like this doesn’t need guns, and that there’s no reason to suppose he’d have had more victims if he had manged to get a gun. And that had more people in the mall been armed they wouldn’t have had to wait for the policewoman to shoot him.
Known to police and not terror related, huh? Sounds familiar.
Pretty much guaranteed their hiding some inconvenient truths when the assailant is only described as a “man..”
That typo would’ve cost me a grade in school.
Are the police biologists? How do they know if the person identified as a man? I Hope whoever put out the PR for the police is charged with a hate crime.
“40-year-old man known to law enforcement
‘
40-year-old Muslim man known to law enforcement
Fixed it, other than JR and his alternative aliases, who thinks I am wrong?
“his alternative aliases.”
It’s pretty obvious that this guy is a Muslim, so what’s your point, you inarticulate imbecile?
His point is quite clear to anyone that isn’t as dumb as a box of rocks, but alas that’s a high bar for you.
It seems you can’t even seem to comprehend that JR and the Muslim assailant are two different people.
And, of course, it wasn’t obvious that he was a Moslem. That was pure speculation, which turned out to be wron. (At least as far as anyone knows right now. It’s possible that he had a sudden conversion and decided immediately to wage jihad. But that would be a total WAG.)
You hooked one of them.
LOL. Your chum attracted a fish.
You are wrong. There is nothing to indicate that he suddenly turned Moslem.
Sudden Jihad Syndrome.
Of course the Aus. Police won’t know the motive even if he told them to their face.
There is nothing at all to indicate that. It’s possible that he suddenly found Allah, but not likely.
Their refusal to identify him gives it away. They’re using the same trick US police play.
They identified him as soon as they verified it. Unlike a major news outlet that jumped the gun and identified a completely innocent person (a Jew, no less), and had to retract in embarrassment. I hope he sues them.
‘Known to LEO’ …seems to be a recurring theme, so much so that a skeptical public may be forgiven for speculation as to why it is so.
How do they expect people in the States to know someone Leo knows? I’ve never been to Australia and have never met him.
Sure you have, you know, that squirrelly looking, androgynous person, dresses in antifa chic, has a rap sheet, always bitching about something or other, ranting about how the colonialist/patriarchal system is doing them down, occasionally but not always wears a nose ring/stud and sports tattoos they can’t explain the meaning of but thought looked cool….I’m sure you’ve this person around before.
He was “known to police”, not to “LEO”. “LEO” is not a term known in Australia.
And while he was known to the police, he did not have an arrest record. He was known to them as a homeless crazy person, in need of frequent welfare checks and such.
Sounds a lot like what we hear from a certain organization in the US.
With over 10 million people of unknown proclivities let in by Biden, this will eventually occur here. Perhaps the mumbling we hear from him is praying it will not happen before the election?
I’ve been thinking over and over again that we are in for a somewhat interesting summer.
Yep…just the beginning.
I suspect that we are in for “interesting times” both domestically and worldwide. Old paradigms are failing. New ones will arise. There is nothing to indicate the new ones will be good ones.
Subotai Bahadur
Why bring immigrants into it? We’ve got enough crazy people already here, and have had them occasionally do things like this for literally centuries.
We may never know his motive….
Even if he left a manifesto and a video explaining it, they won’t know the motive.
Ali Elmoubayed, Khaled Elmoubayed Samimjan Azari sentenced for fighting men at Westfield Sydney.
Three men – one who has alleged links to the Alameddine crime family – have been fined for their role in a brawl where punches were thrown and knees used at a busy Sydney shopping centre.

Two injured at Westfield after teenager accidentally reverses display car into department store.
That’s Westfield Sydney, not Bondi Junction. Totally different mall.
Not to be indiscreet …
Top photo. It looks like there’s a huge hole in the side of his head where his ear used to be.
Lead therapy works….
Australia clearly needs “common sense knife control”, a closing of “knife show loophole” and a seven day waiting period before allowing the sale of a knife. (Sarc)
Isn’t that basically what the UK did?
And no one has been stabbed since.
BBC has declared this a case of “right-wing violence”
No, it hasn’t.
If that happened in NY, the assailant would have been released w/o bail, and out looking for more victims the same day. I hope his freedoms of expression or religion haven’t been infringed upon!
Nope. He’s dead, so even Bragg would not have been able to release him.
Like the Chinese woman told David Hogg – never give up your guns.
Guns are uniquely dangerous. You never see stories about “drive-by knifings.”–The New York Times
Never mind.
–Crocodile Litella
I once asked a person that if the majority of drive by shootings used Ford Mustangs and we banned Mustangs… would the number of drive by shootings decrease… Answer; “Yes”
Sometimes a nation needs to die for its stupidity. Considering that we are seeing the same transition from republic to authoritarian dictatorship in US as Rome did…..
Maybe if the Mustang drivers were forced to drive a new model of car called the Gelding, they’d be more docile.
For the record, Malls usually have sporting goods stores and they usually have baseball bats. Sometimes it might be necessary to McGuyver their way out of a situation, and it is always good to have situational awareness and the option to improvise. I keep a 32mm combo wrench in the back of the Subie, which is good for removing axle nuts and other difficult problems.
Does your 32mm wench have a high capacity socket set?
In the video clip a man turned and faced him as he was running – and the attacker swerved away from the man confronting him. It likely isn’t too far off to speculate he was a coward who chose to attack those who seemed to offer the least ability to defend themselves.
Let this be a reminder that it’s not only critical to carry everywhere you legally can. But it’s incredibly important to carry an extra mag. The life you save may just be your own…or the life of your infant child or grandchild, apparently.
Unfortunately even if this had happened in a red state in the USA, chances are the mall would have banned guns, so people would still have been unable to take him down.
I have it on good authority that there are some people who blatantly ignore those stores/locations with the slashed circle over picture of a handgun signs (signs which have no status in Texas statute). Some even ignore the statute stipulated and required 30.06 and 30.07 signs, which action does come with a penalty.
Not a Moslem. But one of his victims was.
From one who lives in Australia (not Oz), there are a lot of comments here which are born of ignorance. I own guns and knives and will not give them up to anyone.
It does not appear that he was a mooslime, surprising eh?
Lead therapy sure did work, good thing.
Female copper did well
Pat
As a former law enforcement firearms instructor, she indeed did well and I’m sure her department’s instructor is proud of her. That being said, calling her appropriate action “heroic” goes too far. She brought a gun to a knife fight and knew how to use it, and did.
On further consideration – given the level of paperwork and interrogation she is now subject to, perhaps it was heroic.
Edward;
As regards the Aussie cop, I sure hope Sydney takes a different view of such things than NYC.
It’s NSW, not Sydney. Australian cities don’t have their own police forces, Also, if they did, Bondi Junction isn’t in the city of Sydney, so the relevant authority would be Waverley.
But all that aside, even NYC backs up the cops in cases like this. Even when the bad guy is not a person of pallor, but especially when, as in this case, he is.
Actually Bondi Junction is in the city of Sydney, just not the City of Sydney.
Greater Sydney is comprised of 33 local government areas, though not all are part of the city e.g. Blacktown v Northern Beaches v Sutherland Shire v City of Sydney v Waverley Council where Bondi is.
Greater Sydney is not a city; it’s a metropolitan area, like Greater New York, Greater Washington, etc. If Australian cities had their own police forces, as they do in the USA, then the force responsible for Bondi Junction would be Waverley Police. But they don’t, so it’s the NSW Police.
Greater Sydney is more than just the city, I understand that, but the actual city part of Sydney is divided into multiple councils – the Greater Sydney shires are likely not city, but much of the metropolitan area is part of the city, unless you have a very narrow definition of city?
Australia has federal and state police, most countries just have national police. America is weird in having city cops, mall cops, campus cops, and who knows how many other versions.
A city is a municipality, a unit of local government. It is not a metropolitan area, which usually includes many cities. When someone says they live in New York City, it means the five boroughs and nothing more. If they’re in Westchester County, or Nassau County, let alone if they’re in New Jersey, they’re not in NYC. And the police that will respond to a call will be those of whichever city they’re in, not NYPD. Even if they’re just across the street from the NYC line, and there’s nothing visual to tell you you’re not in the city except a sign, if that.
Ask someone who lives on the north side of Eight Mile Rd, in Greater Detroit, where he lives, and he will not say Detroit, but Oak Park or Southfield or wherever it is, even though he’s right across the street from Detroit.
Both stabbings happened in Greater Sydney, what people generally mean when they say “Sydney”, but in terms of actual cities, i.e. if Australian cities had their own police which department would have responded to each stabbing, the one in Bondi Junction would have been Waverley Police, while the one in Wakeley would have been Fairfield Police.
Remember this is all in response to a comment about how “Sydney” is likely to treat the cop who shot the Bondi Junction stabber.
Information at this time is the stabber was possibly schizophrenic, definitely some sort of mental health issues, and known to police because of this rather than criminality. There’s suggestions his mental health had gone downhill in the last couple of years so may have completely destabilised.
No Muslim connection, no known motive at this time.
As for guns, there’s already an article out saying Aussies are adamantly opposed to good guys with guns e.g. https://www.news.com.au/national/nsw-act/crime/aussies-defend-gun-laws-after-bondi-junction-massacre/news-story/308138b18fb64ffc3a9b9d5949e69035
State police are also opposed to armed security guards since access to guns means greater risk.
Un-possible.
I have been reliablly informed that a good guy with a gun never does any good with that gun.
That doesn’t include police. According to the gun-grabbers, policemen with guns are uniformly highly trained, never miss, and are guaranteed to be there when you need them. Except when they’re off murdering black people in cold blood just because they can, of course.
Had there been a good guy with a gun there, this person might have been stopped earlier. But there wasn’t, so his rampage continued until a cop showed up. Who, thankfully, was well trained and didn’t miss, something that, as we all know, is on average less likely to be true of a cop than of a GGWAG.
There’s been a second mass-stabbing event in Australia. This time the attack occurred in a church during service…which was being live-streamed, as so many are today. Four or perhaps five victims, conditions currently unknown.
Yep. This one was also in the Greater Sydney area, 25 miles away from the site of the previous stabbing. 15-year-old boy attacks controversial bishop in mid-sermon. I’m guessing he’s a mentally unstable member of the congregation, and was triggered by the extensive publicity about the Bondi Junction stabbing.
The only hint I have that the kid may have been Moslem is that, for no reason I can see, the Ahmadi Moslem community (which is decidedly not Islamist or inclined to terrorism or violence) condemned the violence. Could that be because the kid was one of theirs? Or could it just be because anti-violence of all kinds is their thing, so they decided to seek publicity by making a statement?
Attacker seems to have been a jihadist, at least he was spewing all the right (wrong?) sorts of comments when arrested.
Probably triggered in part by the publicity of the schizophrenic mass stabbing.
What interests me more is the lynch mob of hundreds of presumably Christians that were besieging the church and engaging in extreme violence against the police and the ambulance drivers, in order to get at the kid. I find that especially interesting since the people who were actually inside the church at the time of the attack didn’t lynch the kid but simply held him for the police, and yet this crowd gathered outside, of people who hadn’t bothered to come to the mass but had either been watching or had heard about it, and they were howling for the kid’s blood.
