NYU “Permanently Discontinued” Discriminatory Whites-Only “Anti-Racist” Parent Program After Equal Protection Project Legal Challenge
Another EPP win. Program was DEI white-shaming to train white parents to be better allies: “The University stated that on or about August 22, 2023, it … permanently discontinued the Program. The University further stated that in August and September 2023, the University provided Title VI training to relevant University staff members.”
The Equal Protection Project (EPP) (EqualProtect.org) of the Legal Insurrection Foundation has challenged numerous racially discriminatory programs done in the name of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
This discrimination comes in various ways, but the overarching theme is to exclude or diminish some people and promote others, based on race, color, or ethnicity. EPP now has filed over 20 civil rights complaints and other actions, leading numerous institutions to alter or drop their discriminatory practices.
A program at New York University was an oddity, in that it’s the only program we have found so far that purported to discriminate in favor of whites. In reality, it was part of a white-shaming DEI agenda, by allowing only white public school parents to take the course where they would be trained to be better “allies” to non-whites. Such is the perverse universe DEI has created.
We wrote about the program and our July 14, 2023, Civil Rights Complaint to the Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR), in NYU Whites-Only “Anti-Racist” Workshop Challenged By Equal Protection Project:
New York University, as part of its “anti-racism” efforts, held a workshop for white parents of New York City public school children, on how to become better “allies.”
The workshop was first exposed by The Washington Free Beacon, ‘Woke or KKK’: NYU Hosts Whites-Only ‘Antiracism’ Workshop for Public School Parents…
The Free Beacon article went on to document the scrubbed website pages as well as video it obtained confirming the segregated nature of the workshop….
The Equal Protection Project conducted its own research and investigation after seeing the Free Beacon article, and confirmed the exclusionary nature of the workshop.
Because the workshop appears to violate numerous civil rights laws, EPP has filed a Civil Rights Complaint with the Office of Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education, which has jurisdiction since NYU is a recipient of federal funding. We promised that if we ever found a program that openly discriminated against blacks, we would bring a complaint in a heartbeat. Now we have.
We received today a Letter from OCR regarding our Complaint. (Full embed at bottom of post.] We were victorious in getting NYU to stop the program, so there was nothing left for OCR to do. OCR dismissed the complaint as “moot” because because NYU had “permanently discontinued” the challenged program:
On July 14, 2023, the U.S. Department of Education (the Department), Office for Civil Rights (OCR) received the complaint you filed against New York University. You alleged that the University discriminated on the basis of race by offering a workshop series titled, “From Integration to Anti-Racism: How We Show Up As White Parents in Multiracial NYC Public Schools” (the Program), for white public-school parents only….
In support of your allegation, you provided a screenshot of the University’s webpage for the Program, which stated that the University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development’s Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools (the Metro Center) would host a series of six monthly workshops beginning on February 1, 2023, designed specifically for white public school parents in New York City committed to becoming anti-racist.
On December 19, 2023, the University informed OCR that the University’s Metro Center offered the last session of the Program on June 7, 2023. The University stated that during summer 2023, the University’s Office of Equal Opportunity opened a race discrimination investigation of the Program. The University suspended the Program during its investigation. The University stated that on or about August 22, 2023, it completed its investigation, and permanently discontinued the Program. The University further stated that in August and September 2023, the University provided Title VI training to relevant University staff members.
OCR reviewed the University’s website and confirmed that the University currently is not offering the Program and all references to the Program have been removed. Under Section 110(n) of OCR’s CPM, OCR will dismiss an allegation where it is moot or unripe. Because OCR has determined that your allegation is moot, OCR is dismissing the allegation and your complaint under Section 110(n) of OCR’s CPM as of the date of this letter.

Wouldn’t it make sense to seek damages to help fund LI good works?
EPP did not suffer any damage. That’s why it could not sue NYU directly. It filed a complaint with OCR, asking the OCR to sue. So any penalty coming out of a case would be paid to OCR.

I still can’t imagine how it could make sense for anyone to want to attend an overpriced college that had instituted such a program in the first place.

I got as far as “NYU Discontinued” before seeing the rest. I was just hoping for “NYU Discontinued” period.
Irrelevant. Those who created and implemented the program are still there. It will show up again under a different name in a couple of months.

How to prevent the same people from changing jargon and re-packaging the same concepts as version 2.0?
The persons who originated that need to fired, and the college should be forced to pay penalties into a victims fund for emotional distress endured.
The college had already discontinued the program a month before EPP filed the complaint.
I doubt that this was a true come-to-Jesus moment for the DEI proponents, so it remains to be seen what guise this anti-racism racism will hide itself under. There is virtually zero chance that they will simply fold their tents and sneak away. That’s not how the Left does things.
Already discontinued? If that’s a fact, it’s probably because the program had insufficient takers to justify its continuation. Otherwise, they would have just opened the program to other races, and claimed “Yes, it’s a DEI/CRT course to teach white parents how to be anti-racist, but it’s open to all races.”
Better allies? This presupposes an existing alliance. Perhaps the parents would be found in need of remedial allyship, much as their graduated children need remedial education.
