U.S. Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen After Numerous Red Sea Attacks

U.S. Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen After Numerous Red Sea Attacks

Biden: “These strikes are in direct response to unprecedented Houthi attacks against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea—including the use of anti-ship ballistic missiles for the first time in history.”

The U.S. and U.K. have started attacking Houthi militant targets across Yemen.

President Joe Biden released a statement. He makes NO mention of Iran:

Today, at my direction, U.S. military forces—together with the United Kingdom and with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands—successfully conducted strikes against a number of targets in Yemen used by Houthi rebels to endanger freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most vital waterways.

These strikes are in direct response to unprecedented Houthi attacks against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea—including the use of anti-ship ballistic missiles for the first time in history. These attacks have endangered U.S. personnel, civilian mariners, and our partners, jeopardized trade, and threatened freedom of navigation. More than 50 nations have been affected in 27 attacks on international commercial shipping. Crews from more than 20 countries have been threatened or taken hostage in acts of piracy. More than 2,000 ships have been forced to divert thousands of miles to avoid the Red Sea—which can cause weeks of delays in product shipping times. And on January 9, Houthis launched their largest attack to date—directly targeting American ships.

The Iran-backed terrorist group have attacked commercial shipping vessels in the Red Sea for weeks. They’ve also targeted our warships.

Houthi leader Abdul Malik Al-Houthi said that no strike will go unanswered:

“Any American aggression will not go unanswered,” says Abdul Malik Al-Houthi in a statement.

“Whoever wants to get involved and attack our dear people and target our naval forces is putting [their country’s] navigation and commercial ships at risk,” he adds in the video address where a sign featuring the Houthis slogan — “God is the Greatest, Death to America, Death to Israel, A Curse Upon the Jews, Victory to Islam” — can be seen in the background.

He’s starting to sound like Baghdad Bob! I wonder what it is about Muslims when they threaten others. It sounds like a schoolyard threat from a 10-year-old. Oh well, he didn’t use the “Mother Of *****” any kind of weapon.

We should be introduce them to our best weapons, lay waste with at least thermobaric, neutron bombs would be better.

Damn, start our oil production 100% back up.

So, is this going to be the next October 7th, when the Iranians activate the thousands of sleeper agents that have crossed the southern border while Joe Biden and his merry band of libtards looked the other way, leading to untold thousands of American civilian deaths and the disruption and demoralization of the Country?

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | January 11, 2024 at 7:14 pm

“Houthi targets” … LOL. Empty warehouses and parking lots for their camels. Maybe an aspirin factory thrown in, to show we’re serious!!

What a friggin joke. Is the secretary of defense, Catherine Hicks, (who was great in the Star Trek movie) phoning the attack in from the beach in Puerto Rico … or has she come back to America and is running the Pentagon via Zoom from her kitchen table?

Pretty sure tough talk from Prez Afghan Rout (or his mouthpieces) instill fear in any adversary—except for the fear of laughing to death. No doubt his vile regime provided plenty of warning to his Muslim terrorist buddies, giving them plenty of time to avoid any serious damage. Everything the Democrat Reich does is for show—except when it comes to crippling America.

They should have been doing this weeks ago. Saudi Arabia knows where the important targets are.

Go to Congress and ask for authority instead of the Executive Branch acting unilaterally. It’s one thing for the military Commander on the spot to respond to defend themselves. This action, however much needed and deserved (which it was IMO) isn’t the same category. This is a continuation of the neocon/uniparty power grabs over decisions that are the province of Congress.

It took more than one month of innumerable attacks by these Muslim terrorist thugs in order to prod the utterly emasculated, incompetent, feckless, dithering and useless Administration of crime boss and dotard, Biden, into action. Utterly despicable.

The global rogues gallery of malignant states observes this manifest inaction, indecisiveness and weakness and fully comprehends that U.S. deterrence and leadership have been entirely eroded, thanks to the vile Dhimmi-crats.

Iran and Qatar also need to be on the target list, for their decades-long, brazen funding and support of Muslim terrorist groups.

      JohnSmith100 in reply to guyjones. | January 11, 2024 at 8:30 pm

Demonstration with a vew neutron bombs would change their attitudes.

What is it with you and your constant drum-beating to break out the nukes in these low-level conflicts? Per your comments, every small nail that sticks up deserves a nuclear hammering-down. You propose glassing large portions of desert just to “demonstrate” that the US can do it, mistakenly concluding that you can “change attitudes” with the genocide of an entire civilian population.

You think that the US operates in a vacuum, and that other nuclear powers will demonstrate the restraint that we have been showing for decades by holding our nuclear deterrent in check, should the US suddenly begin lobbing MIRVs at every decentralized Middle Eastern terror group that lives among their populations. Your grasp of world politics is that of a common, pathetic schoolyard bully — but the bully at least recognizes that violence can and will be turned back upon himself eventually and he’ll have no other options (or allies) left to defend himself.

        Grow up, tough guy.

          JohnSmith100 in reply to alien. | January 12, 2024 at 1:53 pm

Islamists are the bullies, they would push us into a new dark age if we allow it. They are conducting a war against the West. Wars are not won with tit for tat responses. They are won by orders magnitude responses. You are a fool if you think Muslims can be dealt with in any other way.

I believe in applying as much force as it takes to reign them in. I look at history as a guide, Muslims are mostly dumb and very aggressive. History shows us that when they are fighting and external enemy, they are fighting each other.

I evaluate cost of convential arms as opposed to nukes. The point is a deterrent great enough to break their will.

Weapons, the most powerful chemical bomb is thermobaric, the least dangerous nuke is a neutron bomb, there very low residual radiation levels. There is a big difference between neutron weapons and uranium weapons.

I am not suggesting anymore force than needed to trim Muslim’s wings. We don’t need to hit every target to make the point.

alien in reply to alien. | January 12, 2024 at 5:44 pm

“Wars are not won with tit for tat responses. They are won by orders magnitude responses.”

Then you would have the US declare war on Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, to use nukes against the terrorist factions in each. Of course you’d declare war before using nuclear weapons, or would you pull a December 7th on them? Do you really think (doubtful but play along) that any nation where the US would detonate a nuke would just says, “Oh, it’s all right, they’re just striking a small group inside our sovereign border, no big deal?”

“I believe in applying as much force as it takes to reign them in.”

You’d create a mega-war involving the US against several nations which have an Islamist terror faction.

“I am not suggesting anymore force than needed to trim Muslim’s wings. We don’t need to hit every target to make the point.”

You’re advocating the use of nuclear weapons in supposed pinpoint strikes against factions within the borders of particular nations, in some cases as a “demonstration.” You’d set fire to several trees to eradicate a tent worm infestation on a few branches, and you’d be willing to let the entire forest burn to teach those other trees a lesson.

TargaGTS in reply to guyjones. | January 11, 2024 at 8:39 pm

Putting Qatar on the target list would present some unique challenges considering its the home of our largest air base in the Middle East, Al Udeid Air Base. Al Udeid is home to the expeditionary headquarters of Centcom, an entire Air Force Wing and other subordinate units and I believe some elements of the RAF. Qatar is a strange place. Like most places in the middle east, not everything is always as it appears in Qatar…although sometimes it’s exactly as it appears. We also have operating bases in Djibouti and the Kingdom.

guyjones in reply to TargaGTS. | January 12, 2024 at 9:16 am

I’m aware of the base in Qatar. It shouldn’t insulate the Qatari regime from being held to account over its brazen funding of, and, support for, Muslim terrorist groups. The U.S. never should have opened a base in Qatar. The regime is using the base and the American military presence as a shield against being held accountable for its behavior.

CommoChief in reply to guyjones. | January 13, 2024 at 7:45 am

Fair enough, but you need to address that up front and offer up an alternative to the current basing. That might be no replacement b/c you articulate an argument for less US presence or it could be another host Nation.

Either way you gotta address the base issue and the potential follow on impacts of the decision to remove US forces from Qatar; you do advocate removing US personal and equipment prior to targeting them right? If not that’s Cray Cray.

Biden telegraphed this ‘attack’ with a two-hour warning. That should tell anyone who’s paying attention how serious (or not) Biden is about deterring the Houthis, much less the Iranians.

Also, has anyone seen Joe Biden this week? I honestly cannot remember seeing any photos/videos of him. He certainly hasn’t had any public events or press interaction. We’re living in a strange time when neither POTUS nor even SecDEF will make themselves available for a public statement after launching kinetic actions against new foe. When Reagan bombed Libya, he addressed the nation (April 14, 1986). Clinton did the same when he bombed the aspirin factory, right?

It will be interesting to see how the DEI mob reacts to Biden finding brown people that need to be killed.

And now we begin the “find out” phase of Red Sea Shenanigans.

Right. We reject constructing a wall at our southern border to slow the influx of illegal aliens, and focus instead on identifying and eliminating the “Root Causes” of illegal immigration.

But we wipe out a few low-value Houthi sites in a proportional fashion to avoid dealing with the “Root Cause” of the Houthis attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

That “Root Cause” is singularly well-dentified as Iran, the very country from which President Biden removed oil sanctions and paid $1,000,000,000+ for each of several hostages.

Is this great leadership, or what?

Wonder how many aspirin factories were taken out

    Very wag the dog vibes on this. Biden WH discussion;

Hey guys our domestic polling is bad…what if we launch a bunch of cruise missiles at tents and warehouses which may/may not have any military value…even better just do it w/o asking Congress to employ the Military Forces of the USA….it will show Biden is strong and resolute…. if any Populists or Libertarians complain about it stretching Presidential authority over an enumerated power of Congress….eff em… just like the Student Loan bailout we don’t need no stinking Constitutional Authority….not the we actually care about the Constitution anyway….

Everything in Yemen is probably easily repaired. Contents probably are not and will have to be reimported.

Biden does a little strike for show, that has no real effect on the enemy. Very predictable.

thalesofmiletus | January 12, 2024 at 10:16 am

“Let’s be clear: Donald Trump does not have the authority to take us to war with Iran without Congressional approval. A president should never take this nation to war without the informed consent of the American people.” — Joe Biden Jan 6, 2020.

The weapons the Houthi terrorists are using come from factories somewhere, presumably in Iran. And they have to be imported into Yemen somehow, presumably by ship.

Hitting the Houthi launch sites is a good start, but if you really want to end this problem, bomb the missile factories and sink any ship carrying those missiles to Yemen.

Of course, such an operation would require sound leadership in Washington DC to pull off successfully. Something that does not exist.

CommoChief in reply to SField. | January 12, 2024 at 12:40 pm

Sure from a military strategy perspective of holding the puppeteers responsible that makes a lot of sense.

That said why is it the responsibility of the USA to effect this program though? There are more than 55,000 merchant vessels in the world. How many of those are US Flagged vessels? There are a grand total of….178 vessels operating under the Flag/Registration of the United States. Those 178 vessels are the only ones we have a responsibility to protect. If a commercial entity chooses to save a buck on non US manufactured vessels and non US crews well that’s part of the trade off. These shipping companies could have easily placed orders for US manufactured vessels over the past several decades but deliberately chose not to do so.

Even when we view the size by tonnage available the US maritime fleet is not in the top 5, the top 10 or even top 15 in terms of tonnage. Where are the Navies of the major civilian maritime fleets? Oh wait, those Nations don’t posses Navies capable of power projection or securing sea lanes and are, by any fair measure, free riding on the Defense Budget of the US taxpayer. Why are we sending our Sons and Daughters into harms way to protect the commercial interests of our economic competitors? I could see the US helping out an effort of EU Nations with them doing the lions share of the effort but the current distribution of work is ..unbalanced to say the least.

      Excellent points. I agree.

      Capitalist-Dad in reply to CommoChief. | January 13, 2024 at 11:44 am

If the US wanted a large US-flagged merchant fleet our useless leaders could modify the regulatory over-kill that comes with having a US-flagged ship. I doubt lousy government policy that produces an undesirable but totally foreseeable result should be an excuse for not defending US-citizen-owned vessels. Besides, the USA has a long history of protecting worldwide free trade routes—all the way back to “the shores of Tripoli.”

Since egypt economy depends on suez canal, why aren’t they doing more heavy lifting there to ensure safe access?

bill hell in reply to smooth. | January 12, 2024 at 1:57 pm

Maybe Egypt agrees with the Houthis in holding up Article 1 of the Genocide Convention to prevent and punish Israel for the genocide they are currently committing. Also a reminder, all non Israeli ships are free to transit into and out of the Red Sea.

    Cheers,
    Bill

SField in reply to bill hell. | January 12, 2024 at 4:36 pm

US Navy ships are “non Israeli ships” and they’ve been fired upon multiple times. Dozens of other civilian “non Israeli ships” have been attacked as well. These attacks and the ship names and destinations are public knowledge and the information is easily verified. Non Israeli ships are not free to transit into and out of the Red Sea.

The fact that you do not know this leads me to one of two possibilities. You are either an ignorant fool, or you are a liar.

      Cheers

So are they going to put the Houthi back on the terrorist watch list?

    Capitalist-Dad in reply to georgfelis. | January 13, 2024 at 11:49 am

Can’t do that to Biden Buddies. Besides, the Bad Orange Man put the Houthis on the list, so that policy (no matter how reasonable and intelligent) must be eliminated—according to Democrat Reich policy of America Last.
