Mexico’s Largest Cartel Orders Ban on Fentanyl-Trafficking
The order is pretty clear from the cartel: Continue shipping and die.
The last time we checked on the massive fentanyl problem in this country, federal officials had charged a California police union executive director for allegedly running a drug ring from her home and using her office computer and UPS account to order and distribute fentanyl and other drugs.
Now it’s time for a little good news. The leading Mexican fentanyl cartel trafficking to the US has sent a strong order to its members to stop moving opioids into this country.
The order comes as the Sinaloa Cartel has expressed concerns about the US law enforcement pressures and future arrests of its top leaders.
A faction of the cartel known as Los Chapitos, the group led by the four sons of the notorious drug lord Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán recently issued the order, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The decision to lay low comes as the Biden administration has pushed the Mexican government to be stricter with the cartel that has been feeding the illegal drug into the country and causing countless deaths.
The order is pretty clear from the cartel: Continue shipping and die.
For the many people in this northwestern Mexican region who make a living producing and smuggling an opioid that has killed tens of thousands of Americans, the message was clear: stop or die. In June, when the shift away from fentanyl began, three bodies covered with blue pills of the drug appeared on the outskirts of Culiacán.
The Chapitos’ decision to wean themselves from fentanyl trafficking and production comes after a series of high-profile blows against the crime group in recent months.
Chapitos leader Ovidio Guzmán was captured in January during a daylong gunbattle with Mexico’s security forces that killed at least 29 people, including nine soldiers and a Mexican army colonel.
Of course, that doesn’t mean the cartel won’t continue offering other products.
The Sinaloa operative said the cartel leaders want U.S. law enforcement to focus anti-fentanyl crackdown efforts on the rival Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Mexican and U.S. officials were skeptical the ban was more than short-term PR.
In the meantime, the Sinaloa operative “hopes an upsurge in the demand for Mexican brown heroin or a more refined product known as China White will tide him over the end of fentanyl,” the Journal reported. “And he said trafficking in guns from the U.S. is another option” if that doesn’t work.
It will be interesting to see how much of a difference this order makes in this country, especially in the long run.

I think your subtitle should read DIScontinue or die…
Exactly. Or… Continue shipping AND die.
Also got it wrong in the body of the story.
Fixed. Thank you.
Do I think they actually mean it? Nah, they’re drug traffickers, they have no morals.
Like Pfizer?
They don’t appear to be basing this on morals. They appear to be making a risk-based business decision.
What I’m not sure I believe is that a valid risk assessment would show any real danger from the US or Mexican gov’t.
Is there actually as difference between the Mexican gov’t and the Cartel?
Or the Portland city government and the Cartel. At least make the Cartel pay for the Narcan.
No
my question: what is making them MORE money than fentanyl?
Cuz they are not doing this out of the goodness of their hearts…

I never understood the concept of adding a lethal amount to the pills. I always thought the drug dealers best customers were repeat customers, get them hooked to the point where they need a fix but not to the point where they overdose. and become a former customer.
It is a well known business fact that a getting a new customer is more expensive the keeping a current customer. Why would it change for illegal business. In fact there are just added risks in new customers for illegal businesses.
A substance is more “addictive” if the time between administration and effect is reduced. This is one of the reasons behind crack (smoked, 5-10 sec to full effect)) having a more devastating impact than cocaine (snorted, about 60 sec to full effect). By adding a tiny amount of fentanyl, which is more rapidly acting than other narcotics, to the dose, one gets that immediate “boost” effect, akin to the old beer and a bump (shot) from days gone by. A downside of using fentanyl though is that it is so potent, that a slight inconsistency in the manufacturing process could possibly leave a larger amount in the dose than just the intended trace amount. This could then cause a rapid respiratory system depression leading to asphyxia and death.
I tried explaining this same notion to my colleagues a few years ago with graphs. They kept saying “it’s all cocaine”. I said chewing raw Coca plant leaves (legal in Columbia) is different that snorting refined Cocaine which is different than smoking Cocaine which is different than injecting Cocaine.
It is all Cocaine, yes, but the various forms of ingesting it has a different effect on behavior.
Snorting a line of coke now and then is not terribly bad, but never, ever smoke or inject it. I’ve seen what it does and it is not pretty.

Excellent point to ponder.
In the same manner, injecting certain ingredients with a vaccine causes an allergic reaction that eating the same ingredient would not cause. Hence the increase in peanut allergies in recent years: peanut oil has been used in the preparation of some vaccines.
Proper investigation?!? We don’t need no stinkin’ proper investigation.
It’s politics. The fix is baked in right from the beginning.
Pressure from biden
What a joke
Open borders biden, americans keep dying.
100,000 fentanyl fatalities each year biden in office.
The Cartel is making a risk-based decision at least for the short term. They have no compunctions about killing any number of people to continue their trafficking. There is no morality among them. It is only about the risk to them and their operation that concerns them. The cost in human lives…meh!
Election coming and they are worried Brandon will lose. The winner will declare the cartels a terrorist organization and drop the extreme hammer on them all.
Their worries are well founded.
Just make it 15% to the big guy and they can continue to ship it into our country.
I just posted a pleading in the “corrected video” article where a captured Sinaloa mobster blows the whistle on the US government providing money, F&F guns, and favors including immunity from prosecution for crimes committed, to the Sinaloa cartel in exchange for information on their rivals.
I’ve been saying since I first heard of Fentanyl that is not in the best interests of the cartels to import that stuff unless it is clearly marked as Fentanyl, not mixed with other illegal narcotics. It makes no sense to kill your customers.
Way back in college I did a few lines of Cocaine. After college I did some Crystal Methamphetamine. It was always understood that doing these types of hard drugs was unhealthy in the sense that it would lead you to make bad decisions, but it wouldn’t simply kill you outright. Across the nation, once or twice a year a college kid would die from snorting a line of Cocaine, but invariably they had congenital heart defects or some other underlying health problem.
Now the Cocaine/Meth/Heroin/whatever can be adulterated with Fentanyl that can kill you dead-bang. If I were a high-level cartel boss I would send an order down the hierarchy that all of their product is to remain free of Fentanyl except Fentanyl itself. Any adulteration of the other products should be dealt harshly by the cartel brass.
The cartels have professional pill-presses with which they can manufacture pills that are visually identical to Big Pharma prescription pills, but they are putting Fentanyl in them, making them deadly to people with no opioid tolerance.
There was a highly publicized case about a year ago in which two 16-17 year old brothers died from taking a Fentanyl-laced pill that was supposed to be straight Adderall, a commonly prescribed stimulant for kids diagnosed with ADHD. It is basically a legal form of Crystal Meth. It is passed around amongst high school kids to help them cram for exams. A mother tried to rouse her two boys and found that they were dead. Biden laughed it off and blamed it on Trump.

In a way, the introduction of Fentanyl might win the ‘war on drugs’ in the sense that young people are going to be scared off because it is no longer simply a ‘bad decision’, it can kill you outright.

Tony Rezko (not Rezco) was not a “Chicago Mob Boss.” He was a politically connected businessmen who was convicted of corruption.
Why don’t you get your facts straight before you type up a long post?

“under my administration through our efforts, fentanyl trafficking is stopped”
What this tells me is that Biden is feeling the heat on Fentynal deaths and has told the cartels to stop until the next election is over. Then it is ok to crank the factories back up. Is there anyone who does not think that the cartels have bought the Biden family? Everyone else has.
Trying to stay out of drug trafficking led to the assassination attempt on Don Corleone.
LOL!
Kidding, not kidding.
Nothing has changed though – there’s too much money in it.

Here’s a lot of journalistic incompetence on display: “The leading Mexican fentanyl exporter to the US has sent a clear order to its cartel members to stop moving opioids into America.”
No, they stopped moving fentanyl (if even that is true, rather than a cover-up). Fentanyl is not the only opioid, and anyone who does not understand that is too ignorant to be covering any aspect of the drug trade. Further down, the article says they’re still smuggling heroin.
At least 4 people who are getting paid as journalists let that go by: the Daily Mail writer, the Daily Mail editor, the Reason writer, and the Reason editor – if Reason still does any editing. Not one of them understands the basics of what they are pretending to cover. Does anyone understand why so many people prefer to get their news from random people on the internet than from “journalists” now?
Oops, Legal Insurrection, not Reason. I think I forgot where I was browsing because I expect this sort of incompetence from Reason…
