Tribal Chief Responds To Ben & Jerry’s Call For U.S. To Return ‘Stolen Land’: You First

Tribal Chief Responds To Ben & Jerry’s Call For U.S. To Return ‘Stolen Land’: You First

“It comes after the ice cream company was questioned as to when it would give up its Burlington, Vermont, headquarters—which sits on a vast swathe of U.S. territory that was under the auspices of the Abenaki people before colonization.”

Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream tweeted out one of their typically boneheaded left-wing messages on Independence Day, calling for the United States to return ‘stolen’ land to indigenous peoples.

The Hill reported:

Ben & Jerry’s calls for return of ‘stolen indigenous land’ in July Fourth message

Ben & Jerry’s called for the return of “stolen indigenous land” in its Fourth of July message, pointing to Mount Rushmore as the place to start.

The ice cream company said in a post on its website that the parades, barbecues and fireworks are displays typical of the holiday can “distract” from the “essential truth” of the birth of the United States — that it was founded by taking land from Indigenous populations.

“This 4th of July, it’s high time we recognize that the US exists on stolen Indigenous land and commit to returning it,” the company tweeted.

Unfortunately for them, one native leader wants to take them up on this idea, starting with their property in Vermont.

Newsweek reports:

Indigenous Chief Wants To Take Back Ben & Jerry’s HQ Built on ‘Stolen’ Land

An Indigenous tribe descended from the Native American nation that originally controlled the land in Vermont the Ben & Jerry’s headquarters is located on would be interested in taking it back, its chief has said, after the company publicly called for “stolen” lands to be returned.

Don Stevens, chief of the Nulhegan Band of The Coosuk Abenaki Nation—one of four descended from the Abenaki that are recognized in Vermont—told Newsweek it was “always interested in reclaiming the stewardship of our lands,” but that the company had yet to approach them.

It comes after the ice cream company was questioned as to when it would give up its Burlington, Vermont, headquarters—which sits on a vast swathe of U.S. territory that was under the auspices of the Abenaki people before colonization.

It added that the “land back” movement was about “ensuring that Indigenous people can again govern the land their communities called home for thousands of years,” but focussed much of its statement on the taking of land from the Lakota in South Dakota…

Maps show that the Abenaki—a confederacy of several tribes who united against encroachment from a rival tribal confederacy—controlled an area that stretched from the northern border of Massachusetts in the south to New Brunswick, Canada, in the north, and from the St. Lawrence River in the west to the East Coast.

Their stupid tweet is already starting to affect their bottom line.

The Boston Herald reports:

Ben & Jerry’s stock melts down

It’s Bud Light 2.0. Or more precisely, $2.5 billion.

That’s the drop from its market capitalization before the cookies and cream hit the fan on July 4 after the Vermont-based Ben & Jerry’s slammed the U.S. over “stolen Indigenous land.” A call to boycott the pint-sized ice cream behemoth quickly followed.

The stock in Unilever PLC, the Dutch owner of Ben & Jerry’s, slipped to $51.31 a share, at market close Thursday.

This is not the first time that Ben & Jerry have been enveloped in this type of controversy. Like many leftists, the ice cream makers are notoriously anti-Israel.

Last year, they were trolled by thousands of Israeli students who suggested that Ben & Jerry should return their land to the Abenaki people:

“We have concluded that your company’s occupation of the Abenaki lands is illegal and we believe it is wholly inconsistent with the stated values that Ben & Jerry’s purports to maintain. Ironically, in July of the last year you announced that you would discontinue the sale of your products in Israel because you object to the Jewish State allegedly occupying Palestinian territories,” the letter to B&J’s chairperson, Anuradha Mittal said…

“Ben and Jerry’s has never even offered to provide compensation to this indigenous nation in Vermont,” the letter from the students’ group, which is a counterpoint to Students for Justice in Palestine, which promotes the BDS movement against Israel, said.

“Justice, morality and boycotts are not just slogans and antisemitic weapons for your food company to point at the Jewish community in Israel. Justice and morality must begin at home.”

Ben & Jerry refuse to do business with Israel. Why don’t they refuse to do business with the United States? Could it be because they really like all those American dollars that roll in from ice cream sales? Or used to, anyway.

They want America to give back stolen lands? Let them lead by example.

Is that a parody or someone with one drop of Indian blood there?

They’ll end up giving a free years supply of Cherry Garcia to the chick in the Mazola commercials and call it even.

If it comes to this, the “returned stolen land” should be returned in the condition it was acquired, free of damages such as buildings, water and sewer piping, mitigation for flooding and/or fire, paved roads, etc.

Where would this continent be without European influence from those times of “discovery”? And as the story says, the tribe currently holding claim had to defend that claim from another tribe, way back when.. So, who “stole” it from whom, starting with the movement across the land bridge now known as the Bering Strait?

Also forbid importation of any technology. The gun controllers want everything dailed back to flintlocks.. do the same…no “white man” stuff on the Rez.

    1) Italy wants its lands back that were stolen after 476.
    2) Germany wants its lands back that were stolen starting in June 1944.

Vermont…. Last week Mark Stein required a blood transfusion as per his cardiologist’s order. He went to the U of V Med Center. The ER docs consulted with the card and everything was set….until an administrator cancelled the transfusion at the last moment and Stein was wheeled out of the Med Center. He had to go to Montreal to get the blood. The Green Mountain Boys have morphed into the Blue Foothill Bois.

leoamery in reply to alaskabob. | July 8, 2023 at 12:59 pm

Like to read about Steyn’s troubles with UVMC. Can you supply a source?

I was curious about that, too, but I couldn’t find anything. I’d be curious to see a link, too, and until I do, I’m highly doubtful this happened.

(What would Steyn even be doing seeking treatment in Vermont? He lives in New Hampshire. People do travel out of state for certain specialized care, but a transfusion is pretty standard fare these days. Even my somewhat rural hospital can handle that. So maybe they didn’t have enough blood in his type? But to ferry him to Canada instead of just getting the blood from a local hospital or bank? He is Canadian, so maybe it’s to do with that? If it happened at all.)

Stein happened to be in Vermont when his cardiologist said he needed a transfusion…STAT, He describes his predicament below… starting at 27:46 minutes into the program.

          https://www.steynonline.com/13602/making-plans-for-nigel

His first heart attack was in London but didn’t get his attention. Fortunately, he was traveling to France when the Big One hit. Needless to say… if that had happened in the UK it would have been TU.

Blood transfusion? Not a good sign of “something”. His post-MI course appears rather rocky also…. There are two predictors after an MI. One is the residual narrowing of arteries/atherosclerosis which predicts chance of another MI. The biggie is Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction. This is usually in the 60-65% range and if one stays above 50-55% post MI… that’s OK. Below that 50% and prediction of longevity shortens. I can guess….and it would be a decent ball park one … but I won’t. His cardiologist says the vaccine knocked 20 years off the sell by date. To say this is a major blow to those that have faced the hurricane headwinds of the Left is obvious.

So sad. My own cardiologist told me NOT to get the WuFlu vax because he was already seeing worrying data and didn’t want me to take the chance on it since I don’t have other comordities (I’m not elderly, obese, infirm, etc.). I will be forever grateful to him for saving me from any jab at all.

alaskabob in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | July 8, 2023 at 8:04 pm

Early on my personal doc and I were mulling over the options. We both got the vibes that this was a dangerous pathway especially as it was overplayed and the other obvious options were being dissed. She and I decided to back off to wait and see…and as usually happens… the bad news couldn’t be silenced that easily.

diver64 in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | July 9, 2023 at 8:39 am

If Stein had been at home in Littleton he would have either used the hospital there which is a very good one, I had a chainsaw accident treated there, or went down to Dartmouth which is where all life flights up that direction head. Since he was in VT he went to UVM which is also top notch. It was where my grandfather had his heart surgery after the VA in White River decided it was more than they could do and the doctors were stellar at UVM

alaskabob in reply to leoamery. | July 9, 2023 at 2:31 pm

Diver64: It’s only a top notch medical center if one is “granted” treatment there. The refusal to treat after admission and summary discharge shouts wokeness taken to the final level. This wasn’t just harassment but intentionally putting someone at risk.

The administrator who pulled the plug should be looking for a new career flipping burgers…. if even qualified for that. Do I sense a Karen or LaKaren?

leoamery in reply to alaskabob. | July 8, 2023 at 9:38 pm

Thanks for the link. Should have realized that Steyn’s show would be a good place to look.

Wonder what piece of land they can claim?

Much of Central and South Mississippi, dipping into Eastern Louisiana and a tiny bit into West Alabama.

B&J like every lib in the USA should use an “H” instead of ao a “D” after their names for “Hypocrite”. The DNC motto should be, “Do as I say, not as I do”.

      Not stolen

      Conquered

Peabody in reply to Wade Hampton. | July 8, 2023 at 2:15 pm

Ancient artifacts dating back to 7,000 B.C., were found by state archeologists on land near Thomas Dairy in Rutland, Vermont. They were from the Clovis culture which roamed from New Mexico to New England. After that were 10 0r 20 more cultures before the Johnny Come Lately Abenaki culture arrived.

CommoChief in reply to Peabody. | July 9, 2023 at 7:55 am

Yep. The fantasy that the most recent Tribes sprang out the ground and had always been there and nowhere else since creation is bunk. We should, especially academia and govt, stop pretending this provably false mythology is in any way true.

There was plenty of fighting and pushing out, sometimes killing off, other groups to take over better areas of territory in N America well before the arrival of Europeans. It’s human nature to do so.

It wasn’t stolen… it was conquered and even the tribes back then understood what that meant. The Lakota drove the Cheyenne out of the Black Hills. The Apache and Comanche had it out for each other. Not even talking about the Mayas, Aztecs and Incas. Spoiler: What’s for supper? The vanquished.

CommoChief in reply to alaskabob. | July 8, 2023 at 12:18 pm

Exactly. Conquest by ‘strength of arms’ is far from being unique to N America. History abounds with episodes of conquests by almost every culture on every continent by every major religious group. It always sucks for those being conquered and goes to show it pays to be a winner.

They built their business on the udders of uncompensated cows who where forced to live within fenced land, often times without proper heat or cooling.

funny that a DUTCH company is advocating returning land to indigenous people BUT only in the USA…..
Why ignore India and many other lands???

    buck61 in reply to dmacleo. | July 8, 2023 at 12:48 pm

before the current government imploded they wanted to take native farmers land and give it to the ever increasing number of migrants being let into the country

      Paul in reply to buck61. | July 8, 2023 at 1:27 pm

And that would work out exactly like it worked out in Soviet Russia, Maoist China and in Zimbabwe more recently. These progressive morons think farming is so simple… after all you’re just scratching around in the dirt and dropping some seeds in, amirite?

Steal the land from expert farmers who have learned over generations how to feed the world, and give it to some ‘people of color’ in the name of ‘equity’, then watch what happens.

      Famine, that is what happens.

        buck61 in reply to Paul. | July 8, 2023 at 1:33 pm

There is room for growth within the insect growing, harvesting and processing sector. Get rid of the pesticides and the amount of available insects available would explode overnight

        South Africa comes to mind.
Biting the white hands that feed you will result in two things…famine and extinction.

Paul in reply to scooterjay. | July 8, 2023 at 4:44 pm

Yes! I forgot South Africa. The episodes in Zimbabwe and South Africa also had a touch of racial retribution and white genocide mixed in, just to spice things up a bit.

These guys are Ga-gillionaires. The VT real estate transfer wouldn’t put a big hole in their financial boat. The big upside would be the huge ESG points it would earn for Unilever (B&J’s owner). This is a big opportunity for Unilever’s Board of Directors to walk the ESG walk, and show the unenlightened how it’s done!!

Yeah, but once you pay the Danegeld, where you gonna site your new HQ?

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to henrybowman. | July 8, 2023 at 1:40 pm

      Wakanda?

Ancient Wakanda spears were uncovered recently in a cave. But after examination by archaeologists, they were found not to be indigenous. They were thrown across the ocean by very powerful Wakanda warriors.

They could keep HQ in the same location, and just pay annual rent to the tribe. The more rent they pay, the more ESG points they earn! It’s a woke win-win.

Better yet, just sign over ownership to the tribe, and let them run it and rake in the profits. Ben and Jerry didn’t build that, after all. They can go look for a patch of land that has never had people on it. Ever. And pitch a tent on it.

They give Jews a bad name

I’ve been boycotting these two smarmy, un-American douchebags for years now. I hope they lose their land and their business.

When Dkembe Mutumbo made a small fortune in the NBA , he built a hospital back in hi home country.

Countless people have benefited.

Why can’t others learn from Dkembe Mutumbo?

If these two knuckleheads want to do good, why don’t they:

1. Start a trade school
2. Fund scholarships
3. Build a hospital
4. Fund health insurance
5. Pay people’s co-pays
6. Start a college
7. Fund an addiction treatment/job-training program for opioid addicted New Englanders

Such an awful, awful, awful pair of reprobates. Bless their hearts. (One of them graduated from Oberlin 😂)

Who DOESN’T live on “stolen land?” It’s only a question of when it was stolen.

Don is an interesting guy. As someone who grew up right in the middle of the Nulhegan Basin and still has a camp there everyone i knew did whst he says are Native American things including picking fiddleheads and goldthread, perch eyes under the lip while ice fishing, etc. I dont recall anyone gettong bent out of shape if someone wanted to do it as VT always had Implied Consent. If the land was not posted you could go on it for hunting, fishing etc and if it was then the owner mostly wanted to know who was there because of past problems. I finally posted my land in the Nulhegan after it was open to all a few years because of trash being left there but have never denied anyone who asked
