Trans Woman Cyclist Wins North Carolina Race by Five Minutes
The UCI is already reviewing its rules.
Transgender cyclist Austin Killips won the 131-mile Belgian Waffle Ride in North Carolina by five minutes:
Austin Killips, 27, who recently became the first openly trans woman to win an official Union Cycliste Internationale stage event, won $5,000 after easily coming in first in the 131-mile Belgian Waffle Ride in Hendersonville on Saturday, Cycling News reported.
Killips, who identifies as female, quickly took the lead in the women’s division before being passed briefly by Paige Onweller.
Killips ultimately surged ahead and beat her by five minutes.
Coming in third was Flavia Oliveira.

Onweller gave a nice interview after the race:
“Most of the day it was riding the top three women who were together, me Flavia and Austin. But yeah, I just kind of couldn’t match, you know, Austin and some of the single track and the power … just not comparable,” she said in an interview after the event.
“So kinda got gapped maybe 50 miles from there was kind of alone a lot of the time. Had a couple guys ride with and yeah, it’s kind of settled in and kept motoring and yeah, I got second,” Onweller said.
In a recent blog post, Onweller expressed a desire for a separate category for trans athletes.
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) allows biological men to participate in women’s sports. However, it came under fire last month when Killips won the Tour of the Gila in New Mexico.
Females erupted after his New Mexico win, forcing the UCI to order a review of the rules:
The UCI said after a management committee meeting it is “reopening consultation with the athletes and national federations.”
Cycling’s rules were changed last year to require transgender athletes to have serum testosterone levels of 2.5 nanomoles per liter or less for at least 24 months before competing in women’s events. The previous rule stipulated below five nanomoles for only 12 months.
“The UCI’s objective remains the same: to take into consideration, in the context of the evolution of our society, the desire of transgender athletes to practice cycling,” the Switzerland-based organization said. “The UCI also hears the voices of female athletes and their concerns about an equal playing field for competitors, and will take into account all elements, including the evolution of scientific knowledge.”
Allowing biological men to compete in women’s cycling caused former champion Hannah Arensman to quit the sport.

I am a competitive cyclist ( a slow cat 4). In no way am I going to diss any of the female racers, but there is definitely a difference in strength, power acceleration , FTP, vo2 max between male and female cyclists.
a good point is here in Dallas, there is a husband wife couple. The wife is ranked in the top 20 in world (probably top 10) while the husband is ranked probably in the top 800-1200 in the world. He is definitely faster than his wife. Both of those cyclists are extremely will liked and respected in the cycling community.

his (not hers) vo2 max is probably in the range of 80-82, the normal female athlete at that fitness level and age is probably around 65-75 . so around a 10 point difference give or take.
the normal difference between male and female is only a 5 point difference. Mine is 53 at age 65, which is considered excellent plus based on the general population, but quite deficit in comparison to those I race against.

I agree. LI should not adopt any of their language in the titles to articles. Holding firm to correct factual language is of utmost importance. I know that the leftists in Portland hate it when I use the term “feral humans” because they know that it is more factually accurate than whatever new term they are using that week. I’m sorry but until the women start taking action on their own, I am losing sympathy for them. As soon as a transman shows up for an event, but not before, the women should all walk out just before the event starts. That would make the event absurd since there would most likely be only one person in the event. Women have to take the bit in their mouths and run with it and make the rules committees all over the world understand that there will be no more womens events with men in them.
It would take very little time for sponsors to tire of one-person races that no one watched and attendees disappeared.

finding the correct saddle involves solving for two primary issues, A) the spacing on the ” two sit bones” (part of the inner hip – lower back bottom of the buttocks). B) accomodating the uretha and other blood vessels and nerves that run between the penis and halfway to the anus. Most mens saddles have a lengthways slit to accomodate and relieve the pressure for the uretha, nerves and blood vessels. (except in rare occasions, the penis and balls are not an issue.
It should also be noted that womens saddles are definitely different to accomodate the different biological differences.
What is completely ignored by the josef mengelee advocates, is that you can reroute only a tiny fraction of the plumbing.
In summary, that guy will still use a men’s saddle because all the body parts will remain male.
