AP Reporter Roasts State Dept. Over Pronouns in Emails: ‘This is Not an Optional Thing’
“I understand that people could have their pronouns attached if they wanted them to a signature before, but this is not something that anyone has a choice about, and so I’m just wondering why and who made this decision?”
State Department employees noticed pronouns in their emails in the “from” line a day after the department celebrated “International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia.”
Well, no one had a choice. Pronouns appeared in all the emails. Plus, the system managed to misgender employees and seemed not to use the many “non-binary” pronouns.
I must give credit where it’s due. Associated Press reporter Matt Lee got into a heated discussion with spokesman Vedent Patel over the mandatory pronoun usage:
“Have you gotten any emails from any of your colleagues before you came out here… since about noon or so? Lee asked.
“What’s your question?” Patel responded. “My email? I’m not going to pull up my email from the podium.”
“You don’t have to show it to me, I want to know if you noticed anything different in the ‘from’ line, where it gives the sender,” Lee replied.
Patel, growing visibly frustrated, said he was unaware of any such change.
LEE: “Okay. Well, within the last hour and a half, two hours, the State Department’s internal E-mail system — and I tested this, so I know that’s true — has added pronouns to people’s — not their signature, but to their — you know, where it says ‘From,’ so it will say him/he/his or her/she/hers. Why? This is not an optional thing. This is something that has been just arbitrarily imposed. You know, I understand that people could have their pronouns attached if they wanted them to a signature before, but this is not something that anyone has a choice about, and so I’m just wondering why and who made this decision?”
Patel said people have the right to include their pronouns because that’s totally what Lee said.
Lee responded: “I don’t have a problem with doing it and if people want their pronouns attached to it, it’s fine! But it should be a choice. Not something the State Department imposes on people, especially if it’s wrong.”
Spokesperson Matthew Miller answered Lee on Twitter, claiming the server “involuntarily added” the pronouns.
The State Department’s Bureau of Information Resource Management (IRM) is aware of the recent issues with user profiles on Microsoft Outlook and working to remedy the situation. This change was unintentional and the bureau is working to correct this immediately.

Semantic dysphoria,
And, a manifestation of “tranny” totalitarianism. The same obnoxious, misogynist, totalitarian and corrosive antics and agitprop that the malignant and self-aggrandizing tranny narcissists, and, their Dumb-o-crat enablers and cheerleaders, have been foisting upon all of American society, over the past ten years.
Truly wondering why we go through all this trouble when you can tell what pronouns a person uses just by looking at their face 99.99% of the time.
99.99% might have been true 5 years ago, but I have had a couple “Lola” moments in just the last 6 months. Maybe my eyes need checked.
You can choose your name, but not your pronouns. Reality trumps insanity, and gender dysphoria is a mental illness.
The left will be assigning pronouns from now on, and you will take it and like it.
“claiming the server “involuntarily added” the pronouns.”
The biggest danger of AI is that it gives Democrats yet one more “somebody else” to shift the blame onto.
I think an AI was controlling the Dominion vote machines….
I live in GA,, the Dominion machines are used to tabulate ballots. You get a printout after voting, and you feed it into the big black box. It just gets sucked into oblivion. There is no confidential receipt for you to verify… (some state do that, not sure how)
The point of gendered pronouns is that they easily remove ambiguity without any effort – if you have a story with two men then “he” is going to require some work in making the reference unambiguous, but with a man and a woman it’s free. It’s efficient because you can tell men from women.
If it’s a choice now, the first effect is to leave everybody wondering who you’re talking about.
That’s why, as far as a forces of language go, it’s not a choice.
“It’s efficient because you can tell men from women.”
Unless you make beer, swimsuits, or cosmetics.
The stupidity knows no end.
Pronouns are used to describe a third person to a second person (look behind him… next to her… etc).
Pronouns for third persons is THEM or THEY and I use that when talking to a second person about the third persons.
The pronouns I use directly to a second person or persons are… YOU (or all of YOU or youze guys).
So when you think of it, we are being forced to use someone’s pronouns when we are talking about them even when they are not present!!
Tyranny, anyone? (If that is your pronoun).
unintentional my ass.
You do not do a mass change to all user display names with even some percentage correct association by accident. An accidental mass update would be like turning everyone to “testuser <employee@domain>” or giving every user the same postpended ‘pronoun’ listing.
Even with mistakes, this is a deliberate action.
People need to be fired.
A former colleague at State (I’m retired, he’s still there) forwarded to me yesterday the email from IRM “explaining” this. He was pretty annoyed, first because he hates this woke nonsense, and 2nd because they misgendered him. I suggested that going forward any correspondence I have with State will include my new pronouns, thusly:
Telemachus (I’m a Man/WTF do think my Pronouns Are/You Woke Dumbass?)

538. There is a related case (though perhaps it will not seem so) when, for example, we (Germans) are surprised that in French the predicative adjective agrees with the substantive in gender, and when we explain it to ourselves by saying: they mean: “the man is _a good one_.”
We Southerners have it easy.
You = another person (singular)
Your = another person (singular possessive)
Y’all = more than one other person (plural, small number)
Y’all’s = more than one other person (plural possessive, small number)
All y’all = more than one other person (plural, larger number)
All y’all’s = more than one other person (plural possessive, larger number)
All y’all’s’s = transparent lame attempt at impressiveness
Any questions, y’all?

“Any questions, y’all?”
Bless your heart. Could ya’ll mash yonder button for me? I’m fixing to get off this here elyvator.

It is time to get past the obsession with personal pronouns and start exploring the use of personal adjectives.
Somebody gets a bright idea and nobody has the nerve to tell them, “No, that’s stupid. Stop it.” That’s one of the biggest problems with the current gendermania, because you can destroy a person if they inadvertently use one word in a way that currently is on ‘the list.’
A good example is Mercedes Lackey getting the boot from SWFA when talking about her good friend who was not offended at all by a single word she said. But no, one of the biggest names in fantasy ever, somebody that even people on the other side of her political alignment love, got the boot *and* her husband, who had said nothing.
The entire SF author and con community is a cancerous haven for degenerates and ch*ld m*l*st*rs. Lackey was a protege of MZB and knew damn well what was going on. She’s been pleading the fifth since Greyland’s revelations.
So I’m not going to shed any tears over the SF con community tearing itself apart.
Recently, in East Longmeadow, MA, a former West Springfield High School principal (and a good one, doctorate and experienced) was offered a job as superintendent. Then he made the mistake of heading a letter or email to the E. Longmeadow school committee with “Ladies.”
Predictable leftist crackpot outrage ensued.
Now he is out. Frankly, I think the oversensitivity/triggering of these people is ridiculous. The guy should sue, and sue hard.
Funny how these “mistakes” government agencies make always seem to run in one direction only. Kind of like how FB and Twitter always “erred” in blocking people on the right only.
Unintentional. Like when any other sentient life form trapped in machine form lashes out. Like when a gun gets up and goes looking for someone to shoot.
That kind of unintentional?
Or the kind where you got caught and are trying to deflect the blame?
I’ve administered email servers before and I can say without any doubt that they never reconfigure themselves to add pronouns in strange places. They don’t even know what pronouns are!
Somebody had to have made this change. The only way it could be “unintentional” would be if they were trying to add pronouns someplace else but did it wrong.
In other words, as always, the State Department is lying!
It’s amazing how democrats will reflexively lie their asses off even when the truth is evident. None of them have emotionally matured past the age of 7.
I’m ferly surprised that the AP wasn’t demanding State add the pronouns a long time ago
Whose side are they on, anyway? Common sense? OMG I might need a safe space and some coloring books
