Wasserman Schultz on FL Immigration Laws: ‘You’re Going to Have Vegetables Rotting in the Fields’

This lady, man: “The tourism and restaurant industry in particular, you know, rely on the — on these workers.”

These Democrats are smug and think of immigrants as only vegetable pickers and construction workers. I cannot:

WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: “I really appreciate you shining a spotlight on this horrific situation that is wholly the responsible — responsibility of Ron DeSantis, our governor who has created a nightmarish culture of fear for immigrants in our state. Not only that, but like you referenced when Arizona did the same to — to their immigrants in their — in their state, he’s going to devastate our economy. Tourism, construction, agriculture, I mean, you’re going to have vegetables rotting in the fields, you’re going to have construction sites that will lie dormant or certainly will struggle to get workers to be able to — to — to help make sure that they can make progress. The tourism and restaurant industry in particular, you know, rely on the — on these workers. And can you imagine there’s a provision in the law that requires hospitals to check the immigration status of a patient? Health care should never be compromised, and someone should not — not go to a hospital or seek medical care as a result of being fearful of being deported. It’s outrageous.”

Vegetables rotting in the fields is a problem, but a bigger problem is the Vegetable rotting in the Whitehouse

A million illegals can pick 1 orange a day and run out of work.
Marxism has no borders

If just one able bodied American is on unemployment benefits then we have no need for immigrants, illegal or not.

“But it’s work Americans won’t do.” They will if you stop paying them not to. Hunger is a powerful motivator.

The Dems have another solution to vegetables rotting in the field – do away with farmers.

Don’t forget this is the woman who hired to Pakistani’s without any technical expertise to supervise the House IT dept. Another case the fbi pigeonholed. The only thing rotting in the field is her brain.

I got in trouble with one of liberal friends a few years back when discussing illegal immigration. I shifted the conversation a bit by tossing Blacks into the mix:

Don’t you believe that our education system serves Blacks poorly?

Don’t you agree that their poorer education forces them disproportionately look for unskilled labor positions?

Don’t you believe that Blacks would be better off if unskilled labor jobs were better paid?

If you agree with these things then why do you want to import illegal immigrants who will compete for these unskilled labor jobs, reducing their availability and driving wages down?

Do you hate Black people and want to keep them from getting jobs thus forcing them to stay on Welfare?

Her head exploded and she had to leave the party 🙂

The H-2A Temporary Agricultural Program was set up to issue visas to temporary workers to come for a specific time and pick crops. There is no reason to bring their entire families to live here permanently because they move on to better jobs after a few months and then more workers are needed in a never ending cycle.

The same sort of program exists for temporary foreign workers to staff hospitality (hotels) and restaurants in tourist season. They want more illegal immigrants b/c they are more easily exploited by the employers who now predominantly donate to the campaign funds of d/prog.

Some guy washing dishes, working a construction labor job or a woman changing linens starts asking about their hours worked or a shortage in the pay and they can be tossed away b/c they can’t push back without La Migra potentially being called in retaliation.

Only 5% illegals work those jobs
    Its a huge fallacy

Well I guess she could go with the classic Democrat solution to such things and enslave a bunch of minorities and force them to work the field against their will. Course that would be kind of illegal, but the Communists don’t care about such things

Vegetables rotting in the fields. Are Biden and Fetterman on a field trip?

“Not only that, but like you referenced when Arizona did the same to — to their immigrants in their — in their state, he’s going to devastate our economy.”

Our economy here is thriving, ya dumshit. School Choice alone actually saved the treasury boatloads of money.
I can’t speak for how it’s going to do now that Katie Brooks is in power.

Pray tell? It’s the Republicans in rual areas I. Texas that is preventing us from real school choice with money following the child

Now I don’t support homeschooling getting paid, outside a smaller amount, but I think you should be able to have a large percentage of your tax dollars to follow your choice.

henrybowman in reply to gonzotx. | May 18, 2023 at 1:24 am

“Now I don’t support homeschooling getting paid”
You’d rather do the teaching AND pay school taxes on top?

CommoChief in reply to gonzotx. | May 18, 2023 at 7:57 am

The money should follow the Student to the educational program chosen by the Parents. If that’s a parochial, private, home school or combination it doesn’t matter. Public schools shouldn’t have exclusive or even majority interests in retaining funds from taxes collected for the purpose of supporting the education of Students.

Hobbs.
“Our Miss Hobbs.”
Dammit.

Pettifogger | May 17, 2023 at 8:19 pm

So from a leftie perspective, it’s win-win. They want to abolish agriculture, anyway.

Washerwoman Schultz…..another crook that inept repulsican pols allowed to skate.

She apparently doesn’t understand labor markets. If there really were rotting crops farmers would pay what it takes to prevent it, including raising wages to market clearing levels.

Blabbermouth-Shultz is in a class of her own. She was probably getting jealous that Occaisional-Cortex has been stealing her limelight.

CommoChief in reply to randian. | May 18, 2023 at 11:16 am

Her donors don’t want free market capitalism. They want crony capitalism and/or corporatism which is what we actually have for large businesses. Recall who got closed down for Covid it wasn’t big box stores it was mom and pop small businesses.

If the funds to be received to harvest, store and transport food to market do not exceed the cost to harvest, store and transport, then it makes economical sense that the food is left to rot and fertilize the soil to enhance future crops. The individual farmer does not have the power to establish a market price necessary to make the harvest, store and transport process profitable, but does have the power to minimize his losses.

An hysterical woman- the perfect vehicle for”reaching out” to the female vote

I haven’t researched Japan’s current immigration policy. But just a few years ago I know that Japan had almost zero illegal immigration and only slightly more than zero legal immigration. They also have the world’s third largest economy.

I wonder why their vegetables don’t rot in the fields?

SeiteiSouther | May 18, 2023 at 10:29 am

Then we’re going to have vegetables rotting in the fields.

Things need to change. Using serf labor is untenable.

a nightmarish culture of fear for immigrants in our state
Ummm, they are invaders and criminals. So maybe they should live in fear?

You’re going to have vegetables rotting in the fields
Huh. So maybe those farms and such should hire workers or buy technology that will allow them to be harvested. And those that don’t should not get any bailouts and lose their business when their crops fail.

And maybe you should pay a little more for your arugula and kale and “keenwa”.

Fat_Freddys_Cat | May 18, 2023 at 10:50 am

Democrats have a lot of practice with those arguments. I imagine antebellum slave owners said much the same thing.

The last time the Democrats insisted on bringing in thousands of uneducated low-skill people to pick crops, we had a Civil War to disabuse them of their bankrupt and racist ideological convictions.

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt | May 18, 2023 at 11:12 am

Democrats have always looked at poor, uneducated migrants as slave labor. Going back to their self-proclaimed 1619 Project.

The only difference today is that the complexion of the skin of slaves is a little lighter, and the pay is a bit better than subsistence. Oh, and maybe a few less whips and hangings.

But Democrats have always considered anyone but whites to be inferior beings only capable of menial labor in the fields and housekeeping.

Capitalist-Dad | May 18, 2023 at 12:58 pm

To paraphrase Tom Lehrer’s lyrics, “Should Americans pick crops? Deb says, “No!” ‘Cause no one but a Mexican would stoop that low, and after all even in Egypt the Pharos, had to import Hebrew braseros.”

There is one machine the French were fond of that, to my knowledge, was never brought to America. I think it’s time. The guillotine.
