Lightfoot Demands Abbott Not Send More Migrants to Chicago
TX Gov. Greg Abbott has sent illegal immigrants to so-called sanctuary cities since April 2022.
Outgoing Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot demanded Texas Gov. Greg Abbott not send more migrants to the so-called sanctuary city.
“The City of Chicago is aware that the State of Texas is planning to resume bussing individuals and families to cities throughout the United States, including Chicago, starting Monday, May 1st,” Lightfoot wrote. “I am, yet again, appealing to your better nature and asking that you stop this inhumane and dangerous action.”
Abbott has been sending migrants to cities claiming to be illegal immigrants’ sanctuaries. Chicago started receiving them in the fall.
The influx of illegal immigrants has overwhelmed Texas border towns, which are nowhere near the size of Chicago.
But Lightfoot complained the city has no more room. She also tries to cast Abbott as a non-caring governor while telling him not to send them. The lack of self-awareness:
Nearly all the migrants have been in dire need of food, water, and clothing and many needed extensive medical care. Some of the individuals you placed on buses were women in active labor, and some were victims of sexual assault. None of these urgent needs were addressed in Texas. Instead, these individuals and families were packed onto buses and shipped across the country like freight without regard to their personal circumstances.
Chicago is a Welcoming City and we collaborate with County, State, and community partners to rise to this challenge, but your lack of consideration or coordination in an attempt to cause chaos and score political points has resulted in a critical tipping point in our ability to receive individuals and families in a safe, orderly, and dignified way. We simply have no more shelters, spaces, or resources to accommodate an increase of individuals at this level, with little coordination or care, that does not pose a risk to them or others.
Yes, Lightfoot. Abbott does not care about the people, unlike you…even though you know the border towns have no room, and you won’t help them at all:
I know by your actions that you either do not see or do not care about the trauma these migrants have already faced and continue to suffer under the humanitarian crisis you have created. But I beseech you anyway: treat these individuals with the respect and dignity that they deserve. To tell them to go to Chicago or to inhumanely bus them here is an inviable and misleading choice.
Though I am sympathetic to the significant challenges that border cities face, this situation is completely untenable. The national immigration problem will not be solved by passing on the responsibility to other cities.
It’s not until the end of the letter that Lightfoot acknowledged she would contact the federal government and keep asking them to provide more resources.
Good luck, Lightfoot. The federal government hasn’t done anything for Texas.

It’s funny how great Progressive’s virtue signaling are like Sanctuary Cities until they have to use their own money to pay for them.
Lightfoot is a joke, but the country would actually be better off if Abbott were to deport the illegals, rather than send them further inward.
He doesn’t have that authority. Feds would step in immediately.
The Feds might try to step in, but he has the authority, even responsibility, to protect his state. States DO have sovereignty.
Perhaps at one time they did, but then Arizona passed immigration laws were basically they would enforce current federal immigration law in lieu of the feds and got sued over it and was not allowed to do so
Arizona’s problem was not going ahead and doing it anyway.
States have tried this in the past and been shutdown by SCOTUS declaring it is the exclusive authority of the federal government. Congress can pass a law though allowing states to deport illegals.
We need SCOTUS to overturn the portion of the Chinese Exclusion cases that arrogated control of immigration to the federal government. Nowhere does the constitution grant this to the fedguv, and the 10th Amendment is quite clear what that means.

With respect, I think Congress does have the power to remake immigration and naturalization. Getting it to, and getting the Left to allow it are different matters. Article I, section 8 specifically authorizes Congress to “establish a uniform rule of Naturalization” and the last paragraph in Section 8 allows Congress to make all necessary and proper laws to exercise the powers granted it in Article I.

The constitution grants the fedguv the power of naturalization — that is, normalization of the rules for citizenship. It does not grant them power over immigration. Controlling immigration is in no way required to promulgate and enforce rules and standards for naturalization, it is progressive-era federal overreach. I sympathize with the plight of your family, but the constant, droning liturgy of my youth that “states are such fuckups, we need the federal government to do this RIGHT” is moribund, plague-ridden, and well-debunked by now. Our only salvation lies in more-local governments, which we stand a much better chance of forcing them to do it right.
Send her(?) pictures from El Paso (among other places in Texas and AZ, and tell her that the problem is in the WH, and they are just sharing the “wealth” of “visitors” and “refugees” to our land.

Mayor Lightweight is no doubt in favor of redistribution of wealth and other Marxist policies, and also no doubt believes that citizens of foreign countries should be considered an asset if they choose to take up residence here in the US. Please correct me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t that have been the responsibility of the Biden regime to deal with the medical issues the illegals have in federal facilities before dumping them off in a nearby Texas city for the local governments to deal with?
She needs to embrace Chicago’s Sanctuary City status. It would also demonstrate progressive values if Chicago provides each illegal with $10k or so per month so they can perhaps settle-in and donate a portion to the Chicago Dem machine.
Chicago is an expensive place to live. $10 K is OK for starters but should be followed up with at least $1 MM of reparations for the inconvenience of having to wait so long

Illegal aliens crossing the city limits to enter the city of Chicago is the last step in a long list of crossings that had to be made in order to get there. The first crossing was coming across the U.S. Border from Mexico. That’s the one that should have been stopped—-for it was at that point that they broke the law.
Now in the neighborhood of 10,000, Chicago has far less than their U.S. population based percentage of all the illegals that Biden has let in. As a sanctuary city, that should be their bare minimum fair-share standard.
