AFT’s Randi Weingarten Shut Down on Twitter, CNN After Falsely Claiming She Fought to Reopen Schools
“There are numerous statements you made over the summer of ’20 scaring people to death about the possibility of opening schools, and I hear no remorse whatsoever about the generational damage that’s been done to these kids.”
American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten appeared before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic last Wednesday and shamelessly tried to revise her history of being a staunch proponent of keeping public schools closed during the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. While there, she also tried to justify the teachers’ union’s consultation with the Biden administration’s CDC on guidelines for reopening:
In response, Weingarten stood firm that she considered all factors when making her recommendations, with her ultimate goal being to safely open schools as soon as possible with the health of teachers and students in mind.
“We knew that remote education was not a substitute for opening schools, but we also knew that people had to be safe,” she said.
“It made sense to consult with the CDC. And it was not only appropriate for the CDC to confer with educators, it would be irresponsible not to,” she said.

She also played revisionism games on Twitter, but Community Notes fact checks kept being added to her tweets:
Covid scared the nation, but we tried to do everything we could to reopen schools safely. It would have helped if Trump/DeVos helped instead of hectored. Now we must do everything we can to help kids learn & overcome the effects of the pandemic. https://t.co/waWT8BuCQh

Right-wing press and Republicans in Congress want you to think that I tried to keep schools closed. Start in April 2020 I fought to reopen schools. Here’s what I actually said. pic.twitter.com/TTWuYgC5nN

Randi Weingarten got a Community Note fact-check on her pinned tweet from 2 days ago, so she changed her pinned tweet, and that one got the same Community Note.
She just changed her pinned tweet again with the same lie. pic.twitter.com/uwjv0e6MUG

Others reminded people of some of the nasty teacher union tactics that were on full display during the reopen schools debate:
Unions encouraged their members to send fake obituaries to policymakers and line up body bags, coffins & gravestones to protest opening schools. @rweingarten said at today's @COVIDSelect hearing that "I regret the fear that was there." AFT spread that fear. Take responsibility. https://t.co/h3UvMvcamj

Twitter user PoliMath also composed a lengthy thread containing numerous tweets Weingarten had posted slamming Republican governors for in her view reopening schools too soon, while at the same time praising then-NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo for keeping things shut down. Here are a few of them:
Randi Weingarten told Congress she really wanted schools to open during the 2020-2021 school year

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) went off on Weingarten’s “rehabilitation tour” as well:
Biden, Fauci, Weingarten, and so many other Democrats demonstrated their commitment to COVID hysteria by harming children.
They should all be held accountable.

Weingarten appeared on CNN Thursday to resume efforts to revise her history, but didn’t count on Kentucky Republican Scott Jennings confronting her over her falsehoods:
“We don’t know each other, but speaking on behalf of millions of American parents — I have four at home, I had to teach them at home, my wife had to teach them at home — I am stunned at what you have said this week about your claiming to have wanted to reopen schools,” Jennings said during the segment, according to a recording from Mediaite.
“I think you’ll find that most parents believe you were the tip of the spear of school closures,” Jennings continued.
“There are numerous statements you made over the summer of ’20 scaring people to death about the possibility of opening schools, and I hear no remorse whatsoever about the generational damage that’s been done to these kids. I have two kids with learning differences.”
“Do you know how hard it is for them to learn at home and not in a classroom that was designed for them? And for you to sit in front of Congress and the American people and say, ‘What? I wanted to open them the whole time,’” he added. “I am shocked, I am stunned. And there are millions of parents who feel the exact same way.”

Something else to keep in mind when one listens to Weingarten and reads her tweets is that in her pointing to videos showing she advocated for schools to reopen, she doesn’t tell people that she routinely said one thing in public and did another when the cameras weren’t rolling:
Weingarten’s insistence that she supported school reopenings is like Leonardo DiCaprio insisting that he was actually on the Titanic: She was simply playing a role. She and her subordinates at the AFT correctly surmised that parents wanted their children back in schools and told the public what it wanted to hear — that the AFT was doing everything it could to get students back in class. Yet at the same time, the union worked at every level to keep schools closed and, even after they reopened, to give unelected bureaucrats the power to close them again.
The AFT based its 2020 reopening plan on demands for $750 billion in additional funding, limits on student testing, and the suspension of teacher performance evaluations. Once President Joe Biden took office, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky broke her pledge not to allow “political meddling” in the development of school reopening guidance by sharing the draft guidance with Weingarten and her political cronies weeks before its release in February 2021. Walensky then edited the CDC’s guidance to include the AFT’s demand, nearly verbatim, that school reopenings be delayed or reversed if positive tests began to rise in a given area.
The AFT’s local affiliates worked hard to make such delays a reality. In fact, research points to local teacher union strength as a prime indicator of whether schools were closed to students.
Randi Weingarten can try to run away from her record all she wants to. Unfortunately for her, though, the facts don’t care about her feelings.

Weingarten was the real pandemic. She cares nothing for children, or even teachers, once their union fees come in. She got fat and wealthy on the destruction of our schools.
I am ashamed that I was forced, yes, forced, to join AFT and other unions who have done nothing but support Democrats and demoralize children.
She is garbage to me.
A bit of tough love incoming and not singling you out b/c all of us face these forks in road and often we take the easy path. You could move to a Free State instead of remaining in a State that forces you to give up the fruits of your labor to a group of overseers doing the bidding of their masters.
Is it more complicated than that? Sure it is. We have to consider Family and community and all sorts of things into the equation. At the end of day accounting though we can review our own math and see how much weight we gave the idea of individual liberty v the other considerations. If we are honest with ourselves then all of know that at some point or other we comprised to go along and get along b/c it was easier. I have done so once or twice myself. The regret taught me not to do it anymore. Still isn’t always easy to follow through all the time even with lessons learned, absorbed and promises made to self not to do it again.
She’s a rather evil megalomaniac. And when she’s yelling and screaming, she not only looks as nuts as she is, but she looks like she’s having problems on the toilet.
There’s a series of funny videos called “farting preacher”.

Weingarden is the new ‘farting’ star.
How did they “force” you?
The unions worked with Department of Education on policies to keep schools closed. They also lobbied the CDC for the same reason.
Then unions lobbied the President and DOJ to punish parents protesting the material be taught in schools.
Facists
I can recall her speaking why it was not safe for teachers and staff to return to the classroom until the Biden Administration approved her demands that included hundreds of billions of dollars to appropriated for clean air filtration systems across all American public schools.
Prove one school district that received federal funding designated to refurbish its HVAC Systems and actually used the money to do the work it was intended for?
The money derived from political lobbying always goes towards teachers pensions.
Familiar with that funding two-step. Every few years, our local school pressed the state and local governments for money for air conditioning. Every time it passed, the money went into the school…which promptly found more important things to spend it on. Finally, one of the younger men in the community who had graduated from that school got on the board. He stayed quiet until the next AC funding bill passed, then stood on the board’s necks to make sure every penny allocated to AC went to AC. He raised heck at each meeting where the board tried to weasel the money away, he kept the locals informed, and in the end, the school got AC. Finally.
I don’t know if it was from that source, but we did get an AC for the gym that year.
Getting AC without a virus rated filtration system is just making more trouble. This is not cheap, because you need much bigger and more expensive filters.
Did you miss the part where children are the least susceptible to the Wuhan Fluhan?
I’m sure georgefelis and Dathurtz were speaking of incidents that happened years ago — not during the scamdemic.
“Walensky then edited the CDC’s guidance to include the AFT’s demand, nearly verbatim, that school reopenings be delayed or reversed…”
I love my country, but despise its government.
You’d better accept the reality that half the country isn’t “your country” anymore. From their point of view. “you are not “their country”.
Welcome to the “domestic terror watch list!”
If she was a cop, we’d call her a dirty cop. Enough said.
If she was a cop, she’d be very dangerous. She’s the perfect Concentration Camp commandant.
Problem is school kids don’t pay union dues, which is why their interests are ignored.
IMO another factor for Democrats in keeping things from getting “back to normal” was to beat Trump. Schools open, businesses open, no special voting rules and he would have won.
How true.
He did win, it was stolen
More like he fumbled the ball away if we are being honest. Were all sorts opponents doing everything they could to tear away the ball from DJT? Yes they were but we still blame the ball carrier when they give up the ball to the other team.
Bad calls by the Ref on questionable evidence? Excuses which attempt to shift blame. When the ball carrier maintains undisputed control of the ball he doesn’t give the Ref any basis to use to make the questionable call in the first place. If the ball carrier runs over the tackler while maintaining ball security he scores a TD v fumbling it away.
Oh, the Harry Reid respose under another cover.
Q — Wasn’t that tax accusation completely false, a lie you knew at the time?

All else is misdirection..

When the headline said “shut down on Twitter,” I assumed Elon banned her account for disinformation.
We should make sure that happens, too.
Lying dreadful dwarf.
Not sure why people are surprised. Weingarten is there to support and represent the union. The kids do not figure into it in the least but that is her job.
Eh, and all of this being the reckoning we’ve all wanted since BigTech mounted a coup against our republic – because Musk bought Twitter. We wanted our voice back. To be heard. Community Notes.
