Delaware Lowers Standards for Bar Exam in Effort to Increase Diversity

Think about what this actually means. The left is suggesting that minorities are not as capable and therefore, standards must be lowered. Isn’t there a word for that?

Delaware lowers standards for Bar Exam to increase diversity
The Delaware Supreme Court cites diversity as a primary impetus in its recent decision to decrease the minimum score, duration, and content breadth in the state’s bar exam.
Data suggests, however, that diversity might not be the only reason for this decision: applicant abilities to pass the Delaware Bar have also significantly fallen, indicating this could be another instance of dwindling academic standards.
The passing score for the multiple choice portion of the exam has been lowered from 145 to 143 out of 200 questions. Additionally, the number of essays has been reduced from eight to four, and the content areas for possible essay questions has been curtailed from 14 to 10.
These changes decrease the time to take the exam from two and a half days to two days, according to Reuters.

The words diversity and exellance cannot be used together.
How many generations will pass, after Affirmative Action ceases to exist, will a minority or chosen class in a preferredu position be seen as gained by merit, rather than by preference?
How much longer can we, as a country, afford to overlook the most qualified people to hire just barely qualified minorities or “chosen” candidates to fulfill a woke agenda/quota?

Actually, they go together pretty well. Excellence is another thing altogether.
The vile Dumb-o-crats are leading a race to the bottom in every industry/profession — engineering, medicine, legal practice, aviation, etc.
Nothing good can come from elevating undeserving students/job candidates largely if not exclusively on the basis of their utterly irrelevant physical and identity traits.
Using professional and academic merit and competence as criteria for candidate evaluation is now looked at as absurd and outlandish conceit.
This type of news keeps being posted here, but responses must be of the “have your cake and eat it too” variety. The truth is unpleasant.

If they really want to increase diversity, they’d do away with any questions pertaining to the law and the Constitution.

The fact that both Joe and Hunter passed the DE Bar shows that the DE standard is already pretty damn low.
There might be another angle here. Do we know how many descendants of Hunter might be running around the state interested in following in their father’s and grandfather’s footsteps?
Why not lower test standards for general contractors, plumbers and automobile or aircraft mechanics? Why only white collar professionals and teachers?
There’s an interesting caste-class system at work here.
So will this dumbed down, bastardized version of the Delaware bar test only be given to BIPOC candidates and White candidates will have to successfully complete the original version of the test? Or will both groups be given the same bastardized version.
Actually, to me it doesn’t matter.
I am of an age that I will be able to find a lawyer that will have met exceptional standards – not barely getting by just above minimal standards.
Quite frankly, but at this point, I doubt I will ever select an attorney who isn’t a white male.
That will be the only way that I can assure that I don’t cross over into the Intersectionality Zone.
Call me a racist-misogynist all you want. In this dumbed down education and standards era, I wouldn’t be comfortable choosing a doctor, lawyer, or other professional based on lowered standards.

It’s horrible because truly gifted members of the, erm, diverse groups are still tarred with the “not really able” brush.
You would be surprised to know the number of “diverse” law school students who receive extra time to take tests and exams, submit briefs, as well as articles.
I would not want to have an attorney represent me in my personal life as well as in business if they are incapable of recalling crucial information, require extra time for research, and can’t think on their feet against a more competent opponent.
It is sad that the gifted members you speak of are tarnished. But I know from direct knowledge that even some of graduates in the top 10% of their class required additional time to prep and take exams (even the bar) that other more competent students were not given.

Yeah, as a lawyer I don”t buy this part of her story. She first says her brother (who passed the bar exam on his first try), was not allowed to be licensed to practice law because he was white. Then she changes it to him not being allowed a license because he was her brother. Then she changes it to saying that they refused him a license because they were afraid he would “weaponize the law against them”. I call this BS.

the bar exam is no longer a measure of quality.
OK, the response at ground level should be:
1) If possible, do not have your case heard in Delaware.
2) If you are searching for a lawyer NOT in Delaware, write off any possible attorneys who are also licensed to practice law in Delaware.
3) Law schools tend to center their classes on their own state’s bar exam. That would make it risky to employ any graduate of Widener Law School in Delaware, and to be honest anyone whose pre-Law degree came from a Delaware school.

Democrats have such low opinions of the minorities they supposedly champion. Their entire DIE agenda can be summarized as, “Make way for dummies.”
And I thought the book “Passing the DE Bar for Dummies” was a joke. The constant failings of a portion of the population is always deemed from external forces. Test taking “favors” only certain groups as if learning how to take tests is too difficult. In every course I took, the first exam was a learning experience on how to prepare for that professor’s next test.
If you think that equality and equity are the same thing, then you probably would agree with Delaware’s lowering of already lowered standards.
My guess if they eliminated the Bar exam, the next complaint would be the cost of the license they issued and how racist it is that not every student can afford it.
Next: the Delaware medical board will do likewise. Then, the Professional Engineering board, etc.
Apparently, DE creates its own test.

I do not know how many states use the uniform bar exam.
However, if you have a JD from one of two WIS law schools, you do not need to take the test to get a Wis license.

So if I lived in Maryland I would hire only white, male lawyers. Only ones I can be sure made it on merit.

As a side anecdote, either the captain or first officer of my Delta flight to Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta last week was a young black man wearing short dreadlocks. The crew landed the plane safely, I’m happy to say, but, what occurs to me is how much of a blatant disservice all of this “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” BS does to the very people that the policy purports to help.
These policies make it impossible for customers to know whether or not employees “of color” — whether engineers, pilots, physicians, lawyers; whatever — are truly deserving employees who have achieved their position through hard work, high competence and merit, or, if they’re simply beneficiaries of “diversity” policies who owe their employment to their skin pigmentation, their ethnicity, their gender and/or their sexual orientation. Everybody loses under these policies, at the end of the day.
I have a modest proposal.
Make everyone in favor of lowering professional standards for certain status-rich professions (lawyer, medical doctor, dentist come to mind) to increase diversity have to sign an affidavit to that effect. Then require them to preferentially use ONLY those professionals who have diplomas with asterisks on them.
Problem solved.
