Rush Passed Away Two Years Ago Today

Rush Passed Away Two Years Ago Today

Still irreplaceable

Rush Limbaugh passed away two years ago today. I thought it worthwile to re-run the post I wrote that day, and at the bottom, videos of Rush reading Legal Insurrection posts.

——————-

Just announced by his wife on his show. I suspected something was up when he repeatedly cancelled out of shows recently.

https://www.rushlimbaugh.com/

It’s an understatement to say that we have lost a giant. He was so much more. He was a cheerleader and clairvoyant. In the face of mainstream media lies and collusion, he was a voice of fresh air that kept our spirits up. He was the target of cancel culture before we even knew the term.

About a year ago he announced his cancer diagnosis.

Rush was a fan of Legal Insurrection, and multiple times read our posts on air.

My post, Media Matters astroturfed the Limbaugh secondary boycott was The Blog Post That Drove Rush Limbaugh to Tweet.

Here was Rush’s broadcast on March 1, 2012, regarding the death of Andrew Breitbart.

[Original video no longer live, but you can view it by clicking image below or here]

And his award of the Medal of Freedom.

Keys to Rush’s success
1. Self-deprecation. The larger-than-life persona was in fact making fun of himself. None of his replacements do this and they’re uniformly tiresome to listen to.

2. Prankster. Setting up ridiculous situations on his way to make the left amusing. Dan’s Bake Sale was a reaction to Dan calling wanting a free subscription to the Limbaugh Letter, after Hillary suggested that people supplement their income by holding bake sales. Tens of thousands attended.

He was not so good at moralizing, and terrible at math, e.g. the dynamics of the unemployment rate.

You can moralize but nobody wants to listen, bad news for a radio show.

He died less than a month into the Brandon presidency. Maybe this was God’s way of rewarding him for all the good he did. We could sure use him these days. RIP

I still miss him.

Loved when he was on tv. Death came way too soon for him.
RIP Rush, we miss your greatness.

Started listening to him in the early 90’s. 3hrs a day, 5 days a week no matter where you were in the US there he was then there he wasn’t. It was like losing a good friend.
I almost drove my truck off the road laughing when he did the Ragin Cajun/Ken Starr bit. One of the funniest things ever. Stopped listening when the 2 guys took over and now listen to podcasts.

And the two motor-mouths that have succeeded Rush can’t hold a candle to him. What a loss. While their show gives out good information, it just isn’t fun to listen to them. And as a result, I rarely listen.

But his “undocumented anchorman” Mark Steyn continues on and is sharp as ever, but also has had two heart attacks recently… fortunately the “big one” was in France and not England. If you go over to Steyn on Line, Mark has a fitting tribute to Rush. It is a tragedy that so many on the Left never really listened to Rush and their lives are poorer for that.

The humor of the show was the draw for me in the beginning. In college in the early 90s environment and it was not quite rebellious but still irreverent and challenged authority in an entertaining way. Military service didn’t leave time or opportunity for it until retirement. The man took a risk and made history paving the way as the father of alternative media.

Steyn hosted Rush exactly 191 times, from July 11, 2009 to February 22, 2021, if my saved audio file dates are correct.

I go to Steyn’s blog frequently, love his Q&A. Was going to do one of his ships at sea when Covid came and changed the world…

Rush is the only National icon that I have a sense of personal loss. While there are many great conservatives, he remains Number One. We can only hope to do better.

May he find comfort in the Arms of Angels…

Some time ago, saw a mediocre film, “Stand Up Guys”, with Pacino and Walken and Arkin. But one of them said something that stuck. He said “everyone dies twice, once when you stop breathing, and once when your name is mentioned for the last time”.
I still say “Rush Limbaugh” and always will keep his memory alive.

I knew that Mark Steyn would not take over because his debacle at CRTV showed he did not have the work ethic to do this five days a week.

That may have been a blessing in disguise given his recent heart attack.

BTW, I listen to Bo Snerdley on WABC and think he’s great.

gonzotx in reply to Eric R.. | February 18, 2023 at 2:36 pm

I think Mark is great and he’s been super on GBN, he was just too truthful and they were getting sued by the Nazi government, which clearly, as President Trump said,
Coming for us , he was just in the way…
They are getting rid of truth tellers all over the place including popular newsmax.

He was also fabulous on Rush, he was the only one Besides Rush at the time I listened to. I listen to NoAgenda podcast and WarRoom, listen to Dr Peter McCollough, Dr Malone, a few others but Mark was the only one that had the ability of Rush. He did want the slot but apparently they wanted to censor him as GB news is now doing to their people. I imagine Farage, who I also listen to, won’t be far behind…
They don’t care the globalist have so much money, they aren’t fazed and can do anything they want without repercussions

“He did not have the work ethic”? If he didn’t, then how did Rush rely on him up the very end? “Work ethic”? Good grief. CRTV was a disaster and getting away from it a good move. Maybe you can drum up some negative commentary on the recent GBNews fiasco.

Mark Steyn has just too many other interests and talents to be constrained by a daily radio schedule. Scan through the SteynOnline website and you’ll find a dozen widely-varied forms of interesting & informative (& no-prisioners) content.

There is no arguing with success. He provided a valuable counterweight in an important market segment. I could only listen in small doses as he was quite repetitive and over explained most issues with constant commercial interruptions. I stopped listening altogether when his hypocrisy and maneuvering concerning his illegal drug habit came to light. He was the first the mock leftists for such weaknesses.

    “his illegal drug habit”
Have you, or a loved one, ever had severe chronic pain?

E Howard Hunt in reply to FrankJNatoli. | February 18, 2023 at 8:47 am

Yes, and it was borne with dignity. It did not involve fanning out and improperly obtaining multiple prescriptions from a host of different doctors and other assorted subterfuges. Do you feel the same compassion for Hunter? He survived a tragic car crash that killed his mother and a sibling.

FrankJNatoli in reply to E Howard Hunt. | February 18, 2023 at 10:57 am

“Yes, and it was borne with dignity.”
You mean the dignity of being denied prescription pain killers because doctors are under political [not medical] pressure not to so prescribe?
As someone who, for a year, had a severe herniated L5S1, until a surgical discectomy finally solved the problem, I became aware that there are functional drug addicts but there are not functional people in severe chronic pain.
Obviously, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
And no, I have no compassion for Hunter, who is a thief, as is his father, neither of which having anything to do with severe chronic pain.

It’s true. I worked in a chronic pain clinic that was fabulous. It was multi treatment modalities from PT, yoga, biofeedback, psychologist, water therapy, diet, excellent medical directors, etc and we got people off the mounds of pain meds but it was an inpatient 3 week program with Stellar results. Literally we had peole come in w/c’s and leave walking 2-3 miles a day without assist. Saw great changes in people physically and mentally.

As a nurse, it was a great job/career.

I literally thought most pain past 6 months, chronic, had a large emotional reason behind it. I really still do, but I ended up in chronic pain because of my post cancer treatment and I can’t stop the medication because it’s keeping me alive. The side effects, the joint pain is horrendous, just horrendous, but I’m Alive… Can’t say after cancer there isn’t an emotional aspect, but the MRI’s/scans show the deteriorating joints. My knees feel like they have been loaded with cement, my back at times is like someone is stabbing me or tearing out my spinal cord, my feet , well, you get the picture
Anti inflammatory meds are pretty useless.

But I’m alive and in 3 years I will be off the 10 year limit…

Hopefully I will find some healing pain wise but like all other cancer survivors, I’ll have to wonder

There are videos of Rush with hookers and crack?

        Wow did not know that!

CommoChief in reply to FrankJNatoli. | February 18, 2023 at 10:16 am

Lots of people have chronic pain so stop with the whining. Nearly every combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, as opposed to those who were inside the wire, has/will have multiple orthopedic issues and lots of pain. Wearing the body armor, full ammo load while jumping and running or just patrolling creates wear and tear and repetitive injuries.

Other occupations have similar problems. Some get prescribed pain meds, some have a predisposition for addiction, some abuse the prescription. Some folks turn to illicit drugs when the prescription ends. There are many paths to drug abuse and addiction. Not everyone with those sorts of issues stays on the path to addiction.

Each of us has free will and some of us make better choices than others. I live with the pain and work around it taking no more than aspirin or ibuprofen despite multiple physicians wishing to prescribe pain meds. I don’t refuse b/c I am strong but b/c I am weak in that I believe I have a predisposition for addiction based on family history. All choices have consequences and each of us is ultimately responsible for the choices we make.

“Lots of people have chronic pain so stop with the whining.”
Until now, I thought better of you, but realize I was mistaken.
        GFY.

A bit of advice. Don’t confuse facts with emotion. Don’t try and conflate my refusal to accept excuses for lack of compassion. Don’t pretend people don’t have agency or are perpetual victims. Don’t create artificial constructions of oppressors and the oppressed.

Those are the sorts of arguments the weirdo progressive leftists make. The refuse to engage on a factual basis and substitute emotion.. They employ SIGN language as you did here; Shame, Insults, Guilt and the Need to be right.

Maybe you didn’t realize that was what you did or maybe you did so deliberately. I suggest you reread the entire post in context or don’t. Either way, as we say down South bless your heart.

I began listening to Rush when his show started. He was on delay to begin with in West Palm Beach. I couldn’t believe he went National. I was in Sacramento for business in 1984 when I first heard him. Never had my conservatism brought to light by a media figure, the way he did. He was a constant companion from 12-3 while making the rounds as a Sales Rep. He had such a satirical take. Always made me laugh. He saw right through the liberal shibboleths. I think he was so hated because he exposed the “stupid” in liberalism. RIP Rush. You are gone but never far from my mind.

A unique talent.

Miss him so much. He turned me around. I loved him.

Godspeed Rush. We needed you so much over the years, but we understand that talent on loan has to be returned.

The world is a much sadder place without him. The only talk show host that I could stand to listen to for more than a day or two.
