Buttigieg Condemns MSU Shooting Right Away But Took 10 Days to Address Ohio Train Disaster

A shooting not related to your job: Must condemn right away!! A train derailment that probably caused one the worst environmental disaster in American history related to your job: Tweet about “concerns” 10 days after the fact.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg condemned the shooting at Michigan State University, which has nothing to do with his job.

Then again, I don’t think Buttigieg has ANY idea what his job entails.

Anthony McRae, the suspected gunman, killed three people at MSU on Monday night. He killed himself, too. Five people went to the hospital with injuries. No one knows his motive.

A train carrying toxic and dangerous chemicals derailed in East Palestine, OH, on February 3. The EPA identified four dangerous chemicals. The agency identified THREE days after officials told residents they could return!

A train, a mode of transportation, is something a transportation secretary should address.

Buttigieg finally said something about the train disaster yesterday…10 days after the derailment.

Buttigieg “continues to be concerned.” I had no idea he even knew it happened.

Buttigieg spent his time on stage yesterday afternoon complaining about too many whites in construction and joking about all the transportation problems that have happened since he took the job.

The residents of East Palestine and surrounding areas are scared. Dead animals are showing up around the area. Hazardous materials experts cannot believe the EPA allowed people to return. Many don’t want to because they don’t believe the EPA.

Can you blame them? I can’t!

Our AMAZING Leslie Eastman analyzed the chemicals and materials released after the crash:

One of the critical considerations in assessing the response to this incident is that both vinyl chloride and ethylhexyl acrylate (two of the chemicals being shipped in tank cars) can undergo hazardous polymerization. This means at elevated temperatures, the small molecules will join together to form larger molecules and release a lot of energy and toxic compounds while doing so.

Isobutylene is a flammable gas, and under prolonged exposure to fire or heat, containers of this material may rupture violently and rocket.

Therefore, if the responders could not control those three tanks’ temperatures, then the best option would be to burn the material in place. Otherwise, instead of 5 burning tanks releasing decomposition products, there may have been three or more exploding tanks….which would have released the same decomposition products but could have caused substantially more physical devastation.

We’re lucky to have Leslie on our team. She stressed that the rail system is the best way to transport these chemicals.

So we must get down to the root of the problem that caused the train to go off the tracks.

Do your job, Buttigieg.

Comments

Butthead is in so over his head. He really is clueless. So he continuallly tries to deflect from his incompetence and laziness playing the childish race card.

This guy makes Biden seem competent.

He’s wrecking the nation with his laziness and incompetence.

Really appreciate Leslie Eastman’s info. Thank you!

He’s not interested in anything he can’t blame on the NRA or conservative/independent voters.

I’d love to hear some ways that this null set of a human being could be more useless.

One fits the narrative the other makes Alfred look bad.

Buttplug needs to shut up. The shooter was a black male. Story will be blackholed (no pun intended) by tomorrow.

thebradfordfile:
Pete Buttigieg is so bad at his job people actually know who the Sec. of Transportation is.

You go, Gina, baby, keep on keepin’ that head down!
Lucky for her, the US barely HAS any Commerce anymore.
Way better optics now than her time as RI governor, when she mustered the State Police out on all the major highways to turn back all them “COVID-laden” vehicles with NY plates. So when Biden was looking for a Secretary of Commerce, he naturally chose Gina for her absolute disdain for the Commerce Clause.

Mayor Pete and the other members of the Cabinet serve at the pleasure of the president, so if Pete is there, it’s because Biden allows it. The incompetence is intentional.

Some, Select [Black] Lives Matter

There’s nothing to the train disaster except bad luck. A car happened to escape trackside hotbox detection until too late and it happened to fail in a town.

Asteroids are bad news too. It’s a question of the odds, the cost of damage and the cost of reducing the odds further. A tradeoff.

You can prevent it just like you can prevent highway deaths – speed limit 5mph.

Train derailments average a thousand a year. There are a lot of trains. Most of them amount to nothing except cleanup costs, covered by transportation costs.

The most obvious costs is from running trains slowly just so that derailments are contained.

On the highest grade tracks (which is not many) a few freights (all intermodal truck trailers on flatcars) are permitted 70mph. Nothing hazardous in the cargo and mostly light weight. Most freights like this one are permitted 40mph on good tracks, which these tracks might not be rated as.

This derailment would have been contained too except it caught fire.

Granted 99%+ of rail moves just fine. However, when a transportation related disaster occurs it isn’t too much to ask that the Sec of Transportation address it instead of running his yap about Union racism and a shooter who should have been behind bars.

Buttigieg has a history of being absent when transportation related problems occur and of running his yap about topics not strictly in his brief.

I try to be more than appropriately paranoid, on the principle that if you expect the worse, all your surprises will be pleasant. That’s one reason I’m not sitting in a J6 gulag, and other people are.

Wrong… again…it did t catch fire , it was put to fire

CommoChief in reply to gonzotx. | February 14, 2023 at 11:25 pm

That is a very important point. The chemical spill was apparently deliberately torched in place and a whole host questions about that decision need answering.

Their narrative is that if they hadn’t burned it back better, it would have burned itself, or even exploded. Talk about your trolley problems.

CommoChief in reply to CommoChief. | February 15, 2023 at 9:34 am

Sure and maybe that was true. The lack of interest in disclosing the potential harms, all of them, including longer-term harms seems to have been brushed over. Our leadership class has a problem with explaining themselves and their actions. The ‘trust us’ act isn’t playing well anymore.

Mayor Pete’s as good with rail roads as with potholes.

And they say there’s no truth in advertising in politics.

Kudos to this and quoted authors for good general audience take on industrial chemicals like the ones here.

No kudos on the event response. The plans supposed to be on file are supposed to include communication, and you’re supposed to use them. Too much speculating and figuring stuff out in the reporting — these Authortah, too, have gone all misdirect-y and content-free. Sad.

The central tyranny is taking its usual high-handed and lying approach. People report that they have seen dead fish and other animals and the DC Masterminds say, “No you haven’t.” People report burning eyes and other adverse physical symptoms, and the DC Masterminds insist that’s not true. Why are the lying liars of DC so strident?
