Kevin McCarthy is Speaker of the House After 15 Rounds
It’s been 84 years….
UPDATE 12:37 PM: McCarthy won with 215 votes after the usual six suspects voted present: Biggs, Crane, Boebert, Gaetz, Good, and Rosendale.
I am too tired to do any analysis right now. I’m going to bed.

@GOPLOSER might have finally made enough deals to squeak into office, but the odds he actually keeps the promises he made are slim.
FINALLY, one of the people Trump endorsed gets elected.
Might want to check your stats on that…..
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.
Trump Humpers should be happy. Their leader has finally successfully endorsed a candidate in a hotly contested election who won his election. Thank you Donald Trump! (s/c)
Obsessed much with Trump? I notice you always have sexual connotations when you speak of him….hmmm interesting
isn’t it (sarc)? other than that, your a doofus
He will not keep his promises
OF COURSE he won’t. He’s as compromised as Boehner. He’ll do what his GOPe masters tell him.
What a goddam joke.
Gosar released a presser tonight claiming that the holdouts got the changes they were holding out for. I guess time will tell. We for sure weren’t going to get anybody but McCarthy as long as nobody could be bothered to nominate anybody but McCarthy.
People did nominate others, but mostly, they were unserious nominations. This needs to wind down now, there is nothing to be gained at this point (except by McCarthy, who was always going to be Speaker).
There was hope that he wouldn’t, real hope, but alas cowards
Fuzzy, you’re accepting that outcome lying down. McCarthy will prove to be as bad a joke as Barr and Sessions.
I don’t actually have a vote on this matter at this point. My vote that mattered was for Matt Gaetz, who, in our representative republic, votes for our district and is representing us well. Who’s your rep? How’s she/he/it voting?
Recognizing reality is not the same thing as doing nothing, Fine. It’s pretty much the only way to fight the good fight. Tilting at windmills and screeching into the tempest change, accomplish nothing.
The only way to even get this far was the battle we made. We stop that battle. (I didn’t downvote you, btw) T
There is nothing to be gained at this point because we are going to have functionally open Democrat control of both Houses of Congress, and a fraudulent electoral system. “Be Thou then Truly Resolved . . . ”

Forcing people to vote a certain way or else is not how democracy works.
Heh, that’s adorable. I wish human nature were different, but it is what it is. And “democracy” works by bribes (pork), backroom deals, and general perfidy. Always has, always will.
Which is why we’re supposed to have a republic… but we couldn’t keep it.
It’s not lost yet, nordic prince. It’s just not looking good right now.
Ah, a pragmatist. Refreshing!
Aren’t we a Republic?
For political scientists, “Republic” in its very broadest sense, is pretty much a Nation/State that is anything other than a monarchy. In a more narrow sense in political science it is a Nation/State which is governed by the people and/or their chosen representatives. Given the mechanisms of American politics and the current fraudulent nature of our elections, one would have trouble fitting what we have into that definition. I would toss in the thought that what we have right now is more of a collectivist oligarchy, with the restraints of our past institutions on their conduct fading fast. YMMV.
Subotai Bahadur
Sort of like the freedom caucus trying to force the rest of the house to do certain things ‘or else’? Why is what they were doing to equally extortion against the rest of the caucus?
Yeah, how dare they not goose step in rank with the GOPe representatives. That’s terrorism, according to Democrats and their GOPe puppies.
Why? That way has worked wonders for Democrats.
And when Republicans do it, they turn into Democrats.
The establishment called to adjourn before working another deal. They are going to go home when McCarthy is elected, they ain’t going straight to work on the people’s business.
I don’t know what government you’ve been watching for these many decades, but the one I’ve seen doesn’t give a crap what the people want or need.
Wouldn’t that mean your earlier post was in error b/c to ‘wind down’ the Speaker vote by selecting a Speaker allows the HoR to act in a manner that reflects the ‘don’t give a crap what people want or need’ as you noted. Wouldn’t it be a better idea to avoid allowing that to occur if you believe that?
No Speaker = nothing gets done. Gotta have a Speaker and a rules package. Since McConnell and Pelosi rammed through an omnibus funding bill that runs through Sept there’s plenty of time. Constituent services can be routed through the Senate offices.
Heh, no, my earlier post was not in error because it’s time to wind this stuff down. It’s kabuki theater now, everyone knows McCarthy will be Speaker, so time to wind down.
I have no power to allow or disallow anything to occur in the House after I’ve cast my vote for my rep. Nor do you.
Honestly, I think I am missing your point, Chief. I want to understand, but I don’t. McCarthy is going to be Speaker, just as he always was going to be Speaker, and that doesn’t change what I said before about Congress (both Houses) not giving a crap about the people or what the people want. Having no Speaker changes that how since it’s still Congress, and they still won’t give a crap?
Can’t say Congress is gonna shaft us then say wind down the voting that is preventing Congress from shafting us. Those are not consistent positions. No Speaker= no way for Congress to shaft us.
Unless you like getting shafted you would want to avoid it or prevent it,
Heh. So you really think there’s any scenario at all that includes there being no Speaker of the House? Come on, Chief. That’s not happening, and you have to know it.
And my comment about Congress shafting us was not really related to this vote. There will be a Speaker, and it will be McCarthy. As everyone with half a brain cell has known all along. And Congress will keep shafting we, the people. And they would do that no matter who is Speaker. There is no cognitive dissonance here, Chief. At least not on my end.
We didn’t have a Speaker for several days this week and the sky didn’t fall. The HoR has gone several months without a Speaker in the more distant past. Of course that isn’t the point, that’s you shifting the goal post.
The real point is that you tried to argue two incompatible things. You say Congress is gonna shaft us then say don’t try and stop it.
I get it was two different responses where you tried to be funny but still.
And they can openly not give a crap about what the people want or need now that they have gotten election “fortification” systems down pat with the courts fully onboard too
“McCarthy is going to be Speaker, just as he always was going to be Speaker”
Going to bed now. Just had a serious attack of Deja Galactica.
They are likely the ones who compromised.
Principles are hard to come by… Lofty moralistic individuals calling themselves CONservatives are not.
President Trump has burned an enormous amount of his political capital on this particular endorsement.
The louder McCarthy talked of his honor, the faster we counted our spoons!
Yes, Trump REALLY screwed up. Love them man, but he is proving to be poor at vetting DC insiders.
Considering he has enthusiastically endorsed McCarthy not once, not twice, but multiple times, I’d say this is an understatement. He has learned nothing from his first term.
Yes but… let’s elect him for another term. He’ll be great!!!
/s
I’m pretty sure that we are done with real elections, primary or general. At the very least, we will be counting manufactured ballots and not votes cast by real voters. At worst, they may think that they can get away with some sort of state of emergency cancellation. And given the way the country is now I would not rule out that working.
Subotai Bahadur
Maybe he actually did, after all. He recognized the Swamp and someone that can play in that mire. Perhaps he will use that as an ally to shed more light on what is actually going on in DC. I wouldn’t put it past McCarthy to have made a deal with Trump where McCarthy asks for the endorsement as a trade to stop investigations of Trump and Trump promises to lean on the Freedom Caucus to leave McCarthy out of any investigations.
Yah… I was hoping he had gained some wisdom after the snakes he trusted and appointed all revealed themselves and worked to take him down… but he has learned nothing and has made himself a non viable option
Sorry… not sorry Mr down vote… love Trump and his policies but again and again and again the choices he made about who to hire and appoint and who to fire and not fire were and continue to be disastrous for him and this country. He hasn’t learned a thing
It’s one big club and you ain’t in it.
George Carlin
You never know how things will play and McCarthy may surprise. This is a new Congress. Reagan was once a Democrat, as was Trump. It’s not hard to see the momentum. There’s no certainty he will stand in the way. Bring on the Massey Committee, among other things, and oversight of the actual culprits.
Regan was an honest man, not anything like this worm who can’t be trusted
Regan actually loved America, American citizens, Constitution and
Bill of rights
None of which mrs kevin Luntz does
He loves power and money.. period
Regan was also a leader of men, not an adult ROOMMATE of a gay swamp pollster named Frank Luntz. You just can’t make this stuff up.
Reagan. Don Regan was one of his staff.
Lol
It used to be a running joke for Regan during the Reagan years.
And now it’s just a running joke?
Maybe it’s just late and autocorrect doesn’t like Reagan
Or maybe you don’t know the difference between Reagan and Regan? /Just a thought.
Or maybe you don’t know what you are talking about? There’s a pretty good chance of that, right?
Regan tried to regain the difference between Reagan and Regan while searching for his Rogaine again.
You’re just making personal attacks. Unlike Reagan, by the way. To say with certainty that McCarthy does not love America is nonsense. AOC does not love America. In any event, there are very few “honest” politicians, and plenty that are worse, like the Pelosi, Schiff, Raskin, and Cheney, and many others that actually acted to abuse power.
McCarthy does not love America.
The evidence of this is right in front of you.
Whores have more respect than McCarthy.
Why all the hate with whores, it’s a paying job
Sure he doesn’t.
Anyone that want’s power that badly should never be allowed to have it
The leopard cannot change its spots.
Reagan was once a Democrat. Enough said.
I think Reagan would beg to differ with you – he famously said, “I didn’t leave the Democrat Party, the Democrat Party left me.”
QED.
***sigh***. And pigs may fly, but I am not going to start carrying a reinforced umbrella. McCarthy has never shown any sign of principles beyond personal power and he is vulnerable to both bribery and blackmail. He is what he is. We don’t know what the new game is going to be, but the old one laid out in the Constitution is not running things anymore.
Subotai Bahadur
The new game is the same as the last one with The Witch of San Francisco in charge. The Speaker is the final stop for all legislation and decides if it gets a vote or not. Essentially, the most powerful person in DC. That is what McCarthy wants and never forget that.
The rinos will work with dems to screw us over so McCarthy can pretend he’s a conservative.
McCarthy will put on a show for a while, then he will cut and run to the bosom of his swamp ROOMMATE Frank Luntz.
I’m not sure it’s the bosom he’s running to.
Why get mad at Gaetz? He said he wouldn’t vote for McCarthy, but he didn’t vote against him, either. There were still 4 no votes, and he wasn’t even one of them. These guys have no sense of humor.
Gaetz is looking like the only GOP congressman we can trust.
There are more than a few we can trust outside the dissident group; Massie for one.
He said he wouldn’t vote for McCarthy because that was just more business as usual and DC needs to change to represent the people not a few elites and big donor/lobbyists. He is one of the few that actually kept his word like it or not.
I’m not really seeing anyone mad at Gaetz. No reason to be. We were never going to get an uncorrupted speaker. 200+ republicans were willing to vote for the corrupt to the core McCarthy. They were certainly never going to vote for anyone not owned by the deep state marxist cabal.
About 10% of the republicans appear to be honest.
Maybe they believed Trump’s enthusiastic endorsements (i.e. multiple) of McCarthy for Speaker? Should we condemn them for doing what Trump wanted?
Weren’t you the one who elsewhere described such actions/attitudes as political hero worship, or words to that effect?
Trump also endorsed the clot shot, but many of us tuned that out…because we think for ourselves.
Independent thinkers are what we need more of in Congress, not less.
Do you mean their “godlets” endorsement?
Are you suggesting greater than 10% of the republicans in the house (or senate) are not members of the “deep state”?
I was opposed to McCarthy 100%. I do not and never have been in lockstep with President Trump. I do however acknowledge that he is the best president of my almost 70 years, rivaled only by Eisenhower. And that there is currently no replacement for such a unique man.
I don’t take very opportunity to call the greatest president of the last 70 years a loser, because the very party he is a member of tried to lose any contest/election that had a trump supporter running. I don’t believe in Trump as a “godlet” just because you find such pejorative terms cute.
The only losers are the American people that have suffered a coup, the stolen election of 2020, something you can not even acknowledge.
Mike Rogers should be expelled from Congress.
Well, admonished anyway. Expulsion is pretty drastic, and I’m sure he was pretty wound up after Gaetz pulled the rug out from under them at the very last second. You have to admit, it was a very McCain thing to do.
That was nothing, there were times in our history when there were actual fights on the floor, not some attempt at a baby slap.
Voting Present lowers the number of votes needed for McCarthy to win.
I’m aware of that – and on this vote, it looks like all of the dissidents are voting “present”.
We don’t know what Gaetz said in private, yet, so it is premature to talk about a “rug pulled out from under” anyone. All I saw was Gaetz saying he would not vote for McCarthy and he didn’t. If it turns out Gaetz promised to vote for McCarthy and at the last minute changed his mind or demanded something else then that’s different. Let’s find out first, though.
Rogers is lucky he didn’t get his old ass kicked on national TV. Dude is a flabby, out of shape mid sixties. He is an establishment tool and always has been. Hand selected by Hastert when he was Speaker to run for Congress back in 2002.
Rogers is a scold with totalitarian leanings. He is also very close to McCarthy in the HoR.
His BAC is probably 0.25 by now
Lol
Are you saying he’s a Kennedy?
In fact, I think he’s the new whip.
For the 118th Congress Rep. Emmer was voted as GoP whip. The previous whip, Scalise, was voted as the Majority Leader.
Right. My bad. As a matter of fact, I mentioned that myself a day or two ago.
No worries. We’re all tired. Rogers is from Bama and I Juan eye on all our reps not just the one representing me. Not hard to do with only 7 members; keeping track of a big State delegation like FL or TX would be a real challenge.
Well, he’s definitely not a cool whip.
The toupee is hilarious… so bad
Sems like they reached a deal. The vote to adjourn was tied with all votes in. Now suddenly republicans are voting not to adjourn.
Now comes the midnight crunch when we could end up with a Democrat Speaker. Gaetz should nominate FangFang.
Ok, that would have been a Boss Move.
From the cheers, I think the logjam has been broken.
Disgusting all
Around
I am from Florida and applaud Gaetz. It is not his fault that McCarthy has not closed the deal after 14 votes. At the end of the day it is on him to do so. Saying that, yes, he will be speaker but he will be bloodied and basically a very weak leader.
I love Gaetz…HE is the man…
You are the one who keeps telling us that we can only “love” and follow (blindly) one man. What is this new blasphemy that has you eyeballing my rep with this new rapture? Gaetz is good, but anyone from this district (deep, ruby red Free Florida) would be just as good.
Please stop this weird hero-/savior-worship of politicians. They are people with huge egos or they wouldn’t run for office in the first place. Our job is to keep those egos in check. That’s why it is incumbent on we, the people, to keep an eye on them, hold their feet to fire, and demand they represent us and our will to DC–not vice versa. When they stop doing that, they lose elections. Or they should, but obviously, a bunch of red stater America Firsters are more than happy to blame “those people” than their own reps. Shrug. That’s fine, but don’t look at me. I voted for Matt Gaetz.
Get some sleep and wake up on the other side of the couch will you?!
I have never expressed any animosity towards Gaetz. Never. Be sure to see if you can find some, and you sound very very possessive, he doesn’t belong to only you”
And when things are a national interest, they represent all
Of us.
I have expressed my dissatisfaction with the representative of my district, several times, which included daily phone calls.
Give the hostility a rest why don’t you, make it a New Year’s Eve goal….
You
Must be a lot of fun at parties… really
OMG, did you really just type this? I’m “possessive” of my own actual Rep vs. you and your weird worship of Trump. Who is not your rep, your Senator, your anything. Well, I guess he’s your godlet. So weird.
But let’s pause and think about this. Then take your prescribed nap.
Yeah, didn’t wake up on the Trump side of losing. Weird. I still think he’s a complete loser, and even more weird, I think less of anyone who still supports him. Just think what I think of someone who idolizes him, who makes him a saint, a Christ figure. (hint: nothing good)
GF, you have lost it…
One man is hated and feared by the marxist democrat party.
One man is hated and feared by the GOPe.
One man is hated and feared by the deep state.
One man is hated and feared by the CIA.
One man is hated and feared by the FBI.
One man is hated and feared by the DOJ.
One man is hated and feared by nearly the entire Senate and House.
One man is hated and feared by 90% of the residents of the DC area.
One man is hated and feared by the Federal government so greatly they cooked up a fake investigation of four years running accusing the man of collaborating with Russia to steal an election.
One man is hated and feared by the Federal government so greatly they lied to the FISA courts in order to pursue a fake investigation.
One man is hated and feared by the Federal government so greatly they appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the man, with no basis for doing so. A fishing expedition.
One man is hated and feared by the Federal government so greatly they loosed a virus upon the world and created fear so great the people allowed them to shut down the economy and lock them out of their places of work and worship. They murdered old people by spreading the virus to them intentionally, all to create hysteria.
One man is hated and feared by the Federal government so greatly they stole the 2020 presidential election, and they laugh in our faces and didn’t even bother hiding it.
One man is hated and feared by the republican party so greatly they worked to elect democrat party members over anyone that didn’t disavow that man in the 2022 midterm elections.
One man, just one man, is hated and feared by the foes of liberty.
One man, just one man, did everything on the list I posted earlier, and much more, and that man did it almost entirely on his own.
One man, just one man, is risking his life and his fortune for his country.
If you are opposed to that man, if you call him a “loser”, then whose side are you on?
Barry – your “one man” post captures the problem with Trump-ism – like he’s some modern Superman – saving Lois and Jimmy from their bumbling – able to leap tall buildings with one bound – stronger than a locomotive – faster than a speeding bullet …
Where people are habitually getting themselves into trouble, Superman is a serial enabler …
Democrats mobilize – go door to door to collect ballots – register new voters – press for election laws in every state to improve their odds … Republicans attend rallies – hold boat parades – donate money – and show up to vote 1 day every 2 or 4 years hoping for enough turnout to push their candidate over the top of ballot harvesting, dead voting, shenanigans in the counting, etc.
For many republicans, Trump has been their only “skin in the game” while liberals are out there putting their money where their mouth is …
Trump’s failure is on Trump’s supporters – for largely supporting him only in word – not deed.
So instead of “one man” perhaps we need two? Three? 538? Perhaps we need people willing to be arrested?
Or clever enough to consistently AVOID getting arrested…
Yeah, all of the dissidents are voting “present”. There are a couple left, but it looks like it’s over.
I believe McCarthy has to have an absolute majority, including those voting present.
That doesn’t seem to be the general understanding. We’ll see.
I thought like thad as well and posted it and looked it up and I was wrong. It’s a majority of votes cast but not including votes as present.
Approval of the rule package with the negotiated changes is the true test. There will be some butthurt a-hole ‘moderates’ who will initially vote against the package out of spite. McCarthy will now have to do his job and deliver on his promised rules and concessions.
Betcha you they will adjourn ( if McCarthy is electred ) without voting on the rules package. Monday it will look completely different.
Do they have the votes? If d/prog (212) and the dissidents (20) vote no then they can’t adjourn. Also there are way more than 20 r who approve of the negotiated rules package and will PO if McCarthy can’t deliver or tries to backslide.
That said there’s a bunch of BS protocol to get through plus swearing in then any vote on a motion to adjourn if offered. Getting late, tempers flaring, lots of members want to go home…IMO that makes it preferable to stay and vote on the rules package now.
Waiting till Monday may lead to issues in passage but they will probably vote to adjourn.
I bet D’s are willing to cut a deal on the rules package, so the 20 become irrelevant.
Not really, because every rule that the holdouts want goes straight into the teeth of the Dems.
Yup, that’s it. McCarthy wins.
.Why do they need so many members to walk McCarthy up to the speakership. He’s not Joe Biden.
Funny how Rogers never expressed a fraction of that anger against the Democrats.
Apparently Gaetz has been given the chairmanship of the Armed Services committee. That was promised to Rogers.
You mean one eyed McCain is not?
Is that true? That would explain why Rogers got so mad. In order to get the deal done McCarthy started his Speakership Career by stabbing Rogers in the back. That will not be the last time that happens, mark my words.
Jeffries has no shame.
Luckily I went to take out the garbage anmd my headphones went out because the bluetooth got out of range.
I’m guessing that starting Monday some of the lesser snakes* are going to find that the head snake told a few lies…
*there are a few that are not snakes, the 20 initial holdouts would seem to be less than legless. We’ll see if they can do anything about “follow through” with promises made.
Sorry, you were absolutely right about President Trump and MrE was way off target.
We supporters didn’t just do boat parades and rally’s, we went door to door, made phone calls, donated money, .I made my own one page bullet point advertising for President Trump and walked miles putting them on cars, door knobs, etc. Thousands of them. Called radio stations, called representatives nation wide.
I just love it that people make these ludicrous statements about Trump supporters. Drives me nuts.
Little did we know we should have been in the basement printing out fake ballots and “harvesting” them and paying off politicians and juicing the voting machines.
Gonzo, how is it that liberals, whom the right claims are “the minority”, have out worked us, out maneuvered us and out smarted us, unless of course they have a significantly higher percentage of effective engagement?
Why MrE, did cheating ever enter your mind?
““…the minority”, have out worked us, out maneuvered us and out smarted us…”
Yea, there has been no cheating. The ballot counting behind closed doors after ejecting all impartial observers, it was all on the up and up.
The fact that 18 of 19 bellwether counties went for Trump, nothing to see here.
Illegal changes to state voting laws? Never happened did it MrE?
Massive Vote fraud through the mail in ballots? Never happened did it MrE?
Censorship of Biden corruption through manipulation of twitter, facebook, and all the “news” organizations such as CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox among others didn’t really happen did it MrE?
The economy was destroyed by a scam virus and then election outcomes were manipulated in response, but that didn’t happen did it MrE?
The same people in charge of elections and electronic voting machines conducted an illegal multi year investigation of President Trump using taxpayer $$$ (100 million +) and lied to the FISA courts, including appointing a special counsel out of the DOJ, but they would never ever manipulate the sacred vote of the American people, right MrE?
I could go on but it’s pointless. It requires some level of intelligence to see the clear pattern and evidence of massive election theft. Not much mind you.
So the question remains:
If you cannot see the truth, is it because you are incapable or are you working for the other side?
I’ll record this for the censors.
Cyclical argument.
1. Trump is the “one man” who can save us.
2. Trump can’t overcome democrat cheating.
Rinse and repeat.
Thanks gonzotx.
I’m just now discovering that once again, LI has censored a commentor, myself. And it should be noted there was nothing in that comment that violated any LI “rules” unless “horsesh*t” is a forbidden word. I’ve seen far worse.
The censor just doesn’t like the truth and “MrE” didn’t address my comment at all, he just created a strawman to bully.
This comment will probably be removed as well.
I suppose all my comments should now be typed and saved. That way I can at least expose the censors outside of this blog. I’ll begin with this one 🙂
I doubt you’re being censored, Barry. We’ve exchanged comments before with the same result. Metaphor isn’t your thing – that’s what I meant by the Superman is an enabler comment. Superman means people don’t have to be responsible for their own safety, avoid trouble, stick up for themselves, etc. Superman always saves the day. Yet Superman has his kryptonite – which for Trump, has proven to be the entrenched deep state and crooked elections. Oh, and Twitter.
Ever see the movie the Queen’s Gambit, in particular the end game scenes? Dems have a brutal battle-proven end game – i.e., stack the deck at every position and keep counting until their guy is declared the winner and inaugurated. Reps play through election day, looking for a decisive check mate. Reps only apparent end game tactic is a law suit if they believe there was cheating. But with a democrat stacked legal process, they’re unlikely to prevail.
As I recall, you read CTH? Sundance talks about the difference between the L and R; L focuses on collecting ballots over weeks, R focuses on voting on election day. If ever the R is to level the playing field, they either need to stop mail-in / ballot harvesting, or, match the L’s effort.
Will he go Uniparty or fight for the citizens?
Somehow, when I think of McCarthy’s win, I kept picturing Kevin calling Biden and singing “you’ve got a friend in me”.
Was the liar, Nancy Pelosi too drunk to pass the gavel?? Really, where the hell was the old bag??
She handed over the Dem Leadership to the Election Denier Jefferies early because she didn’t want to be seen handing the gavel over to a Republican. Typical classless act that she is known for.
Pelosi (D-Petty and Vindictive)
Show of hands: who – deep in their hearts – thought the result would be anyone else?
It was like an action movie. You know the hero isn’t in real danger and you know he’s gonna win, but it’s still kinda fun to watch play out.
Our political system is basically entertainment now, anyways. The results are bought before the show is aired.
Too bad. I was rather enjoying watching the no-good RINO b*stard twisting in the wind, but I guess it was going to happen eventually. Is there a difference between this and having a communist in the seat? I doubt it.
No, not as a long term effect. Short term, in order to maintain the conservative fiction, there will be a difference.
End result: The conservative holdouts got the well-needed rules changes they wanted and investigations setup, McCarthy got the Speakership, and now we wait to see if the new Speaker is a man of his word.
I’m going to be cautiously optimistic. There’s too much doom going on as we plow into the Biden recession, and maybe having actual adults in charge in the House will limit the damage when the economy finishes running into the ditch and bursting into flames.
I’m too old to share your optimism. More and more, I’d like to see the 2nd Amendment come into use.
That…that’s just too reasonable of a position to hold.
Well I see Mighty Kevin has conquered all. Wow. From here on regarding Mighty Kevin, the operative phrase should be “Trust But Verify”.
Hold the RINOs feet to the fire on the promises he made.
Can a lobbyist not give Mike Rodgers a new wig?
Just for that alone, he should be censured!
Now we could finally get to work using committees. We have no more room for unforced errors the committees need to get to work yesterday and they have 24 hours in a day then they have the night to.
Yes. What the country desperately needs to repair itself is… more business as usual.
Seriously? You don’t want us to use the ONLY power we have in this country because of an extremely worthless point of rhetoric?
How adorable. You think that power belong to us.
Congress and its committees aren’t the power in the country but it is a form of power and we have to use it.
Your tone was different in reaction to prof. Jacobson raising THE SAME point.
Gee, we need some more cheerleaders for the corrupt chinese owned GOP. The one we have are worn out broken records.
You really are worthless in every single dam way.
You show up when you like Henry can’t figure out a single thing wrong with what I say the direct insult.
A worthless comment from a worthless person.
They always and I mean always resort to
Calling us names, like deplorable, worthless, not worth a pound of salt or something like that..
Cause they got nothing but their anger…
Hey censors!
Danny said “dam” and insulted me directly. Why is this allowed to stand?
Is 15 rounds even legal in DC??? 🙂
Yes, as long as all the votes aren’t collected into a magazine article.
Well done both of you
Ditto!
And now let’s all start putting a little “e” after “GOP” in our comments to show off our “real conservative” bona fides.
Come join us over at the Ronna McDaniels article. There’s a band and everything.
Lol
OK, McCarthy is Speaker. To get past the Kulaks, Wreckers, and anti-Soviet dissidents he had to make some promises. When he made them, he knew he was lying. When he made them, those he made them to knew he was lying. And McCarthy knew when he made them that those he made them to knew he was lying.
All we have left is for the lies to become blatantly undeniable. I suspect it will not take long. The GOPe’s continued existence depends in large part on being able to draw the votes of those who disagree with their Leftist masters, as a way to give legitimacy to the Left’s actions later. I’m pretty sure that what was their voting base will see, with the revelation of the lies, that they have been had. If you vote for Republicans, and they spend all their time and effort enabling what the Democrats want and attacking you for not agreeing with the Democrats; why vote for Republicans?
The Republicans came into existence at Ripon, Wisconsin in 1854 in large part because of the failure of the Whigs to stand up really for anything against the Democrats in the battle over the Kansas-Nebraska Act and the extension of slavery. Whigs only cared about power and money and not any principles, despite promises. The Republican Party is now the new Whigs, failing to stand against the Democrats and the rest of the Left.
When the Whigs collapsed, the Republicans quickly became the US government by winning the 1860 elections. And the Democrats provoked the First American Civil War. As the Republicans collapse, there is no alternative party in existence yet. And the integrity of any elections is highly doubtful. The Social and Political Contract that held us together as a nation and people, and defined us, is pretty much gone.
We are in perilous times, and there is no clear path ahead. Every Chinese dynasty thought it would be eternal. They all fell. Rome thought it would be eternal, and it fell. We have had under 250 years, and it feels like the end of a dynasty. “Be Thou then Truly Resolved . . .”.

That means McCarthy is 3rd in line to the presidency? We do n’t have much to look forward to so don’t anyone get excited. Business as usual on Capital Hill.
Because it doesn’t appear anywhere here, I’ve cribbed from ZeroHedge the “concessions” McCarthy had to make:
I hate to break it to everyone but several of those are non-starters for at least a year due to the Spendathon McConnell just celebrated in KY with his buddy Brandon. The Omnibus expressly forbids Border Enforcement increases, spending on Covid is cemented to whenever Brandon decides to have it stop until the next budget, SCOTUS already has ruled on Term Limits and so on. Much useless blather here and I’m surprised McCarthy didn’t just laugh behind his hand and agree to them at once except his vanity would not allow it.
It was like an old-fashioned heavyweight championship fight. It went fifteen rounds. All that was missing was Johnny Addie to announce the results.
We’ll see how enthusiastically McCarthy whips the rules package. I suspect he will let it whiff, and then off he goes …
McCarthy has no speaking
Voice, God awful
