UPDATE 12:40 – McCarthy loses the seventh round after the fifth vote was cast for Donalds.
Will today be the day the House elects a Speaker? Who knows. Remember, Rep. Kevin McCarthy can only lose four votes. He needs 218 votes to win the position depending on how many vote PRESENT.
Rep. Victoria Spartz voted PRESENT during Wednesday’s three rounds, bringing the magic number down to 217.
McCarthy has made concessions to appeal to people to his side. He made two more on Wednesday:
McCarthy’s latest concession would be a significant win for hardline conservatives – after the California Republican had already proposed a five-member threshold, down from current conference rules that require half of the GOP to call for such a vote. But many more moderate members had been concerned about giving in to the far-right on this matter since it could weaken the speakership and cause chaos in the ranks.
In two more concessions, the sources said, he’s also agreed to allow for more members of the Freedom Caucus to serve on the powerful House Rules Committee, which dictates how and whether bills come to the floor, and to vote on a handful of bills that are priorities for the holdouts, including proposing term limits on members and a border security plan.
Nothing is final, however, since the negotiations are ongoing. And Republican sources say that even if McCarthy’s offer is accepted, it would still not get him the 218 votes he needs to be speaker. While these concessions could attract some new support, other opponents have raised different concerns that have yet to be fully addressed.
Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert told Sean Hannity she will not vote for McCarthy:
Hannity: "McCarthy has 203 votes. Your side has 20. Why is it time for him to withdraw and not you when he has so many more votes?"
Boebert: "He needs 218. pic.twitter.com/g4ImLWAiQB

Hannity: "Do you not believe that [McCarthy] will follow through on his promises?"
Boebert: "We are trying to change the structure of how Washington is run and operated."

Hannity: "If you don't have a name [for Speaker] with 30 votes, is it time for you to withdraw?"

Comments
You need to go back over 100 years to find someone that screwed up as badly as McCarthy.
Yeah, but you only have to go back a couple of hours to find folks who disagree with him being called terrorists.
The guy who did it really surprised me with that comment McCarthy’s big mistake was not only moving his gear into the Speakers office assuming he would be crowned Speaker but then threatening anyone who didn’t vote for him. Not a good way to win people over and just why is he “owed” that job?
I agree,
That guy 100 years ago won the election for speaker.
A great man would step aside – and then be lauded to the point of being elected speaker.
This putz McCarthy has proven what a little man he is – eight times.
This is what draining the swamp looks like. It’s magnificient!
Let’s face it. He already moved into the office.
He will have to move out when Jeffries is elected. It only takes 12 Republicans voting Present to get him there.
Ahhh! You mean Hakeem’s wet dream!
Well first of all that will never happen until the Dems retake the House and second a congress led by Jefferies as Speaker of the House would be pretty much indistinguishable from McCarthy except the Show pony “investigations” targets.
trespassing
McCarthy has NEVER in his entire career fought this hard for his constituents, Republican priorities or this country and what is best for it and its citizens as he is fighting now for power for himself. It’s an absolute revolting display of where we are.
Could you give an example then?
The screw up I see is 20 people making things easy for Democrats.
The focus should be on Biden instead it is on us having a fight about figments of the imagination on a topic nobody cares about.
Your Precious was literally fist-bumping Biden while celebrating the latest GOPe surrender 2 days ago. Strange how you “missed” that article, Danny.
Did you know you could support some people sometimes and on some things but not be devoted to them the way you worship Donald Trump?
Did you know that people for 2000 years have had something called a brain?
No you know.
Do I need to start trying the “Trump met with an actual Nazi therefore you met with an actual Nazi” argument on you? Would it make you like me or be persuasive in any way?
You want to engage in insults instead of arguments fine.
The point still stands you can’t come up with anything bad McCarthy has done, or why this fight is anything but extremely damaging to our side, or prove that this is good optics.
Why don’t Democrats do this if it is such a great idea?
The 2000 years was referring to practicing republican politics; it should be a longer number I got lazy and defaulted to back to the Roman Republic.
Is going on a victory lap with Biden your idea of “focusing on Biden” or nah, Danny?
You miss the point as usual. The people you constantly shill for have been rolling over for the democrats you claim to oppose for 25 years, but I’m sure they’ll finally come around this time.
To repeat at Paddy
“Did you know you could support some people sometimes and on some things but not be devoted to them the way you worship Donald Trump?”
You still have no example of McCarthy rolling over.
Maybe not.
Hannity is such an azz
The only thing I will say in his favor is his scholarship work for fallen servicemen’s children. Aside from that, his sincere, frat-boy persona grew tiresome 10 years ago.
He talks too much.
And interrupts more than Bill O’Reilly ever did.
Longer than that. I stopped listening years ago as his show features him saying the same thing every day. He also talks over every one of his guests including O’Reilly. If Hannity wasn’t one of the only people who regularly had him on after he got railroaded out of Fox O’Reilly would have bailed years ago.
Wow the clerk said that speeches should;d “not include personalities”.
Going through Perry mason books, that’s a blast form the past.
Wow Hannity is a real piece of crap, isn’t he?
WE HAVE MORE VOTES SO YOU HAVE TO SHUT YOUR MOUTHS AND GET IN LINE!!
Yeah that’s a real convincing argument there, chum.
This is classic politics. They don’t NEED a winning candidate, jackass, they have enough votes to keep YOUR piece of RINO trash from winning until he finally does what he should have done weeks ago and negotiates for their votes.
Take it with a grain of salt, but every snap poll that I’ve seen on this issue which doesn’t ask laughably biased questions HEAVILY favors the conservative rebels here, and McCarthy knows it.
It’s very revealing that the establishment’s ‘you must abide by the majority’ argument is always tossed overboard when dealing with legislation important to the base. Suddenly the base is told we must compromise with the ‘moderates’.
Had the establishment been less willing to make truly horrible compromises in the recent past their current argument would carry more weight. As it stands they expose themselves as hypocrites who are PO that less than two dozen members are getting between them and their grift.
Name the compromise done by McCarthy.
Read carefully, my post stated establishment, not McCarthy. You are barking up the wrong tree hoss.
Sorry about that, from topic matter I thought you were talking about McCarthy by establishment.
That argument convinces Democrats. But they have different rules.
Remember the statement from the master politician, Barack Obama, on the responsibility Democrats have in an election: “you don’t have to fall in love, you just have to fall in line.”
Hakeem Jeffries thanks you for preventing the existence of a house speaker, he is overjoyed you support preventing the possibility of someone keeping the moderates in line.
Oh don’t need a winning candidate?
The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is not our system in our system you absolutely need a winning candidate.
Unless McCarthy gets dem votes get ready for round seven,
They have adjourned until tomorrow after getting to a total of 11 votes.
ROUND 12, FIGHT!!!!!
*Mortal Kombat Theme Plays*
He’s lost #7.
I guess calling them terrorists didn’t do the trick.
I guess Mike Rogers is going to have to threaten them again.
Or come up with some stronger perjoratives.
Putting them on “double secret probation”
To tlcomm: or, as my 1st grade teacher used to threaten: writing our names down in her Black Book!
FBI pull out their files….real fake whatever…

Autocorrect is not my friend
And Autovote is no one’s friend. But you will get called a terrorist if you don’t use it along with the rest of the lemmings.
No change. Onward to #8.
Per Perry, all of those rumors about concessions have come from McCarthy’s side. There is no such deal.
They don’t want concessions. They want somebody other than McCarthy.
They DO want the concessions, but at this point it sounds like they simply don’t believe McCarthy will do any of it.
They’re not going to accept empty promises of a desperate man. They want concrete assurances it will happen, and it sounds like McCarthy isn’t willing to give that.
You summed it up nicely.
EXACTLY. It is to paint the ONLY members of Congress that actually give a damn about this country as unreasonable and recalcitrant
Gaetz voted for Trump.
TrumpForSpeaker is now trending on twitter.
That would be worth it if for no other reason than to see establishment heads explode.
https://twitter.com/ebeth360/status/1611058311604080647
Ain’t it the truth!
Indeed, but he’d be terrible at the job, and he’d also hate it.
The only way it makes sense to elect him speaker is if the president and vice president have already been impeached and are about to be convicted, and the speaker decides he’d rather remain speaker than be an accidental president. In that case he could resign the speakership, have the majority elect Trump speaker, and as soon as the senate creates the vacancy he would become president and the old speaker could be reelected.
He wouldn’t last a month as soon as he found out that he had essentially a little power and zero control.
If Trump has enough good brain cells left in his aging mind, he is not interested in being SOTH.
And it would mean we lose very badly in 2024 no matter who we nominate.
Trump is a very volatile asset and he is in no way popular.
“No way popular”? You need to get out more.
8th time is a charm? 🤡
https://twitter.com/ebeth360/status/1611058311604080647
Sorry. Meant to be a top level post.
Sanctimonious Ideologues, that claim to have the only answers, are not helpful no matter what. Trust them at your peril.
The thing about the house is that, other than investigations (which will lead to exactly NOTHING anyway) it doesn’t matter right now.
The useless pieces of trash in the Senate threw away any power the republicans in the house might have had for 1/2 of their term.
Let it sit there and do nothing. It would be better than anything else the idiots could do.
EXACTLY. The House doing nothing is a win for the country. No House votes means no Senate bills can pass, nothing for slow Joe to sign. Only thing not effected is the Judicial branch.
But they passed the omnibus with McCarthy s blessing, he was present in many meetings with McConnell and the other Schumer guy
There is no fight in that dog, just lots of hairspray
That is in fact a lie sir.
McCarthy opposed the omnibus and your lying about it reveals the fundamental flaw about this fight which is it is a fight about nothing that is costing us politically.
You are going to be talking about a general election with Democrats as it gets closer to the election and each lie reduces your credibility and makes it more likely you will trigger a backlash with the person you are talking to.
https://www.kashmirdispatch.com/kevin-mccarthy-breaks-with-mcconnell-opposes-1-7t-omnibus-bill/
Americans don’t give a dam about our personality squabbles they care about actual issues. For us to inflict a personality fight between two people on them as their congress……there is fantastic reason AOC did not do this to Pelosi. This has not been good advertising to America to expand the Republican Majority and give us the senate.
I don’t mind risky fights on principle. I do mind risky fights over nothing.
Get ready for round 9.
Prince Harry called Prince Kevin and recommended he step back from being a royal so some work can get done by the blue collar folks.
Maybe the ninth time’s the charm… Doubt it, though.
McCarthy is not going to win. I suggest he and the insurgents decide who is acceptable to both.
Problem is, McCarthy’s answer is always McCarthy.
On the upside, the Denver Broncos have a better record than McCarthy.
And McCarthy doesn’t have an inside track on a high draft pick.
McCarthy will never be speaker because the bad blood is personal. This impasse will continue until there is a national crisis. At that time – Ukraine war going nuclear, market collapse, financial crisis, Taiwan invasion, new pandemic, etc.., a Speaker will be needed immediately, Jeffries is the only possibility, and he will get 6 Republican votes to put him over the top.
Are you nuts?? Jeffries would be worse than nobody at all. Certainly worse than any Republican, even the unlamented Liz Cheney.
How? With a Republican majority in the House nothing would happen. Total deadlock which would be a massive win for our country
You seem to have slept thru Republican majorities and minorities giving the Dems virtually every wet dream they ever had. The only ones they pretended to hold ground on were the ones that only the craziest of the Dems wanted that the slightly less crazy Dems hid behind the Republicans and blamed them… while actually being glad for the cover.
Tell us your joking or are just having a bad day at the office.
Because if you’re serious, we can quickly arrange a psychiatric consult for you with a complete evaluation.
To be honest, the GOPe would have preferred to have lost the House. I can see them voting for a Democrat Speaker over someone their own voters approve of. Mind you the immediate collapse of the Republican Party would look like the Whigs on steroids.
Subotai Bahadur
They don’t need a Speaker for ANY of that crap.
Ukraine war? It’s not our freaking fight anyway. They are NOT our allies, and we’ve already given them over $100 billion (for which there is NO traceability or accountability)..
Market collapse or financial crisis? NOT THEIR FUCKING JOBS. I don’t care if they’re not able to prop up their corporate friends from the consequences of their own decisions.
Taiwan invasion? They aren’t needed. The Executive branch has the authority to respond to that, the House doesn’t have to do anything ‘immediately’.
New pandemic? Go to hell. The House never did anything with the FIRST alleged ‘pandemic’ in the first place. It was all the States responding, whatever crap the House did was just stupid window dressing and using it as an excuse to take vacations and vote by proxy.
So not a single one of the things you claimed actually requires a Speaker, certainly not a piece of trash like Jeffries.
Trump
Very good things are happening behind the scenes for the Republican Party. Intense but Smart negotiations between GREAT and PATRIOTIC people are ongoing. They all love our Country, and want something to go forward, ASAP. This “event” will end up making the Republican Party STRONGER and more UNITED than ever before. OUR NATION IS AT STAKE. Stay tuned and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
I like Trump and believe he won in 2020, but he really needs to just shut his mouth on this one. He has no place in this fight, and supporting McCarthy is NOT a good look, the dude literally stands for everything Trump claims to hate.
“Concession” I saw this morning has the speaker wanna-be committing to separate appropriations bills, with limited amendments, and some procedural decoration to contain off-topic poison pills and Trojan horse payloads.
Also some interesting comment flying around on single-issue bills.
It would be remarkable if a transparency and good-government party — go with me on this — in power did things to create transparency. “Continuing resolutions” limited to continuing things as they are would be another interesting change.
As Rep. Perry has pointed out, he’s been negotiating these things since last summer. If they haven’t made any progress since then, it’s unlikely that they will now, unless McCarthy gets out of the way – which appears, at the moment, unlikely.
I still think this is dumb.
However, by yesterday, I think it was absolutely 99.9% given that McCarthy will not be the next SOTH. The people who have repeatedly voted against him have too much at stake now to let him get the gavel. It would be pretty much a given that punitive retaliation would ensue.
I think you’re right. The 19-20 Patriots are, at this point, all-in and there’s no going back for them. For Kevin McCarthy, it’s personal now.
If McCarthy somehow wins, by whatever means or strategy that would be, I think he would be vindictive enough to destroy the most vocal among them, especially Gaetz, Roy and Boebert. He will destroy them especially if he loses, too.
He and McConnell have been trying to destroy them for years now
When those false charges of Gaetz having sex with a minor came out, McCarthy was no where to be found and did nothing to help him fight the false charges, again by the FBI
I.don’t.blame, Gaetz. I believe it was a set up to get rid of a vocal MAGA
We agree.
It’s official, McCarthy has now lost the most votes for Speaker since 1859.
Hopefully he’ll get the record and retire with Mrs Luntz…
“”It’s time for the 11th round.””
Why not. It’s not as if they have anything else to do for the next few weeks.
I, and MANY other conservatives like me, actually PREFER that they can’t do anything else because the only thing they could actually accomplish would be to sell us out to the Democrats anyway.
After all, Bitch McConnell already gave away their purse power for most of this year. They couldn’t accomplish anything meaningful with this time, and I love watching McCarthy and teh RINOs get pantsed in front of the entire country.
And what’s REALLY FUNNY about that is that if Bitch McConnell HADN’T given away the farm on the omnibus bill and they were going to shutdown if the House didn’t pass a spending bill, McCarthy would actually have some leverage against the holdouts.
With that power safely ‘compromised’ away already, McCarthy has no power to do anything conservatives want done anyway.
So, the game goes extra innings.
Let’s go for that record people, I believe in it!
2 months doing absolutely nothing else sounds pretty good to me.
I’m waiting for the fights. Eypatch McCain is already pushing things with his terrorist remarks.
I’m just cynical enough to have Jeffries selected so – at last – the entire nation can see the Democrat party as it actually is. NO Democrat will try to rein him in as that would be ray-cyst.
Been a while since we had a good fistfight in Congress.
And, someone will slip up and use the N word.
I prefer that caning, but that was in the Senate….
Mary is going to need a smaller font for the graphic at the top …
Up until today I thought that only Democrats stood around in a firing circle and shot each other to death at the cheers of Republicans. Now I understand that Republicans are just as good at this as the Democrats.
Gosh, maybe McCarthy should have actually done the negotiations to secure the votes instead of making speeches about how he’d ‘earned it’, and just moving into the Speaker’s office.
You summed it up very nicely!
Or you quislings could pick someone else.
Let’s keep this up all year and shut Congress down.
Keep at it till McCarthy’s support dwindles a bit more than it already has. 11 consecutive losses (so far) b/c he didn’t secure enough support between Nov and Jan is telling. If he can’t negotiate in good faith with his own party conference members then why should anyone trust him?
If I was the d/prog leader I would refuse to vote to adjourn until at least 2030 ET and demand an early start (for Congress) no later than 0900 ET. Then make sure the clerk is ready to call and conduct a vote every 90 minutes. Same for the dissidents, McCarthy can keep his ass on the floor and either meet the terms or stay there; the time for negotiation and presenting demands has past. McCarthy knows what they want, either he takes the offer or he continues to reject it with the same results.
This is not a victory for any of the causes we claim to care about it is a weakening on all of them and strengthening of Democrats.
How so? This is the whole House voting to select the Speaker. No one who can’t muster the support necessary can become Speaker. So far no one has gotten over the hump and until someone is nominated who can attract the needed votes for a majority we stay in a holding pattern. The top down approach you seem to favor where the establishment party bosses dictate who’s turn it is to be Speaker and demand everyone fall in line doesn’t seem to be working.
If the d/prog and their media allies doing their usual name calling and running down r voters you then political commentary may not be the place for you. Frankly your comments would be better sent to ass clowns like Crenshaw and buffoons like Hannity who are both seemingly prepared to cause a permanent rift between the establishment and populist wings of the r party.
Bottom line is until a Speaker is elected the HoR can’t make things worse nor can the Senate, Congress is in a ‘time out’ of sorts while this gets sorted. If it takes a few days, weeks or months well….the Senate allowed Pelosi to ram through an omnibus spending bill that runs till September so there’s plenty of time.
1. Focus is taken away from Joe Biden and instead put on this extremely absurd fight If the focus is on Joe Biden Democrats get weaker, if it is on us having a civil war without a reason we get weaker.
2. This fight has zero substance whatsoever. There is not a single bill or compromise, or compromised vote or position McCarthy has taken that he is being taken to task for instead he is being taken to task for “MUH ESTABLISHMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” which makes all of us look insane.
3. The entire country is watching; this is exactly the type of behavior it does not like. It does like standing on principles. It does not like fighting for its own sake (note that AOC and the squad had the maturity not to do this last time to Nancy Pelosi. They have exactly the same opinion of Nancy Pelosi the rebel republicans have of McCarthy the speeches they gave could easily be plagiarized it is that similar)
That drama from the Trump White House was extremely alienating. Making that the brand of congressional Republicans independent of Trump is a disaster in the making. We need to stop shrinking the Republican base and start expanding it. There are major stories posted at LI that could be the news of the cycle instead of this.
4. The concessions given apply to moderates as well as super conservative congressmen so you could be sure it will be a lot harder for the next speaker to keep the Republican side together to oppose things and that is by design the concessions demanded and agreed to all make blocking things from the senate harder.
5. We have not taken over the committees because of this revolt
6. If it takes long enough to select a speaker this extremely petty fight will come back to haunt us because Americans will be a lot less likely to forget about it.
Democrats are overjoyed about this for very good reason.
If it starts to look like this will be a multi-month let alone a year thing Republican squishes will agree to a plurality to try and avoid a blue wave year in 2024.
Democrats don’t have these personality wars. AOC and Nancy Pelosi hated each other. 2021 with exactly the same situation (and the same exact empty rhetoric railing against “the establishment”) AOC did not hand a major victory to Republicans by behaving this way.
When we look crazy to the general population we lose. We also lose by the fact that we won’t be taking over the committees if this keeps up.
1. Only those with fewer than 2 functioning brain cells are unable to focus on multiple subjects at the same time.
2. By “us” you mean GOPe. That is good!
3. Let them watch real deliberation in the house for the first time in years. Those still capable of rubbing two or more functioning brain cells together will be revealing in the house functioning as a debating chamber for the first time in years.
4. List those concessions. But herein lies the real issue, it’s become one of trust in that McCarthy cannot be trusted to follow through on anything he promises. Again, that is a good thing to no one just trusts this guy because.
5. It’s the first working week of the year. NOTHING gets done and more importantly good things come to those who wait. Additionally, see point 4, there is a problem with Trust in that no one trusts McCarthy to do the things he said he would (because why would he upset the apple cart when it’s much easier to go along to get along).
6. The damage is already done in last years budget betrayal. The country waiting a week or two for a SOTH will not make things any worse or better RIGHT NOW than they already are.
Danny, your Democrats created the issues being faced by America today. Own that fact because the longer Democrats stay anywhere near power means soon that’s the only thing you’ll be allowed to own.
1. Insult them all you want the American voter is the king. Right now this is making us look bad to the American voter. Most people are not engaged the way we are.
2. Everything I said is something Ben Shapiro has pointed out. If you want to use your stupid label (by the way any reasonable definition of an “Establishment” that doesn’t include Donald Trump is moronic and wrong) in order to remove almost everyone who votes Republican that just demonstrates you don’t believe in anything besides personalities.
3. Almost nobody watches deliberations in real time. They see that this is happening and form a conclusion. A political strategy that doesn’t involve the real voters is stupidity.
4. Let me guess this is a forgery by GOPE site Breitbart right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q20kfVlrRM4
The trust issue is just your way of saying my imagination is what matters. I still challenge you to come up with one example of McCarthy being on the other side.
5. People don’t vote on one particular thing they vote on a feeling built up over many incidents. This is an incident that is making people less likely to vote Republican.
I know it is hard but your imagination should stop when it makes it harder on our side.
Danny,
The arguments you make in this post apply to the failure of current nominees to get the majority required to become Speaker.
If the contest stretching out is so horrible then shouldn’t those, like yourself, who want the contested election ended work in good faith to end it? Basically there are two ways to end the opposition:
1. McCarthy could drop out
2. Meet the demands of 17/21 dissidents to secure the votes for McCarthy
Your proposal doesn’t include either of those. Instead you are back to a top down approach that demeans the choices of individual members. Those members represent the wishes of the constituents in their CD not those of establishment DC. That’s the point being made here in this process.
Establishment DC and their surrogates keep refusing to acknowledge that basic point because it has become so lost over time that it seems they can’t understand it anymore. This will not be last time that rural Red State Populist members refuse to go along with the decrees of establishment DC. From no on leadership better ASK for their support and make concessions to get it at least as much as they have previously done for more moderate members. Their votes can’t be taken for granted any longer. That is a good thing.
1. My proposal is get your own candidate for speaker or get out of the way.
2. Every concession making the speaker weaker applies to the moderates to. You do realize that the blue district republicans are not carbon copies of the freedom caucus and will have their demands being we pass some part of the Biden agenda right?
Let me put it this way
1. Blue district Republican now needs to either get something Biden supports passed we want blocked.
2. He now has the power to do so
3. McCarthy has been making concessions.
When the you are making Democrat media celebrate you are doing something wrong.
Danny,
Equally get a nominee that can manage to attract the required majority or step aside. I’m good with that how about you? Why not have McCarthy step aside and have him nominate Lee Zeldin? Partly this is about some members distrust of McCarthy, removing himself as a nominee would neutralize that.
Worrying about the reaction of d/prog or their media allies is foolhardy. Whatever the r attempt they will piss and moan. Equally true for the DC establishment and big donor class who repeatedly push policies that don’t benefit average Citizens. See mass immigration, Ukraine, forever wars ane corporate welfare as but a few examples.
The fact is the average American, much less average r voter, is far more in tune with the dissidents and a more populist right orientation in their policy preferences.
This episode is a reminder that the voices and frustrations of constituents should matter beyond election day. I don’t understand why the top down, shut up and vote like the Koch brothers and Heritage Foundation tell you mindset should be celebrated.
McCarthy will eventually win. If he does so today then the HoR won’t be at work tomorrow. Instead they will adjourn until later this month so all the pearl clutching about ‘delaying the r agenda’ will be shown for the BS it is.
Finally, a Republican who counts votes the way Democrats do: Over and over again until he wins, then stop.
So what’s the strategy now? Keep holding votes until not enough people show up to vote? Are the reps still allowed to proxy vote since Pelosi set the last rules?
To me it’s actually a good thing that we have this sort of gridlock, given the entirety of the situation.
Ironically one of the concessions McCarthy agreed to was banning proxy voting.
McCarthy lost this on election night in November when his pal Ronna and the rest of the RNC failed to deliver a larger majority where he could survive the challenge of a handful of people who were never going to vote for him. After election day he had about two months to gauge the room and make whatever deals he had to and failed in that task as well.
Let’s see if they stay in DC for Saturday and even Sunday for votes if needed.
You may see it as totally the GOP establishment’s performance, but are we forbidden from believing election night was also about the democrats’ increasing boldness in engaging in widespread vote theft in blue and purple states, and that the GOP establishment’s most grievous failure is its failure to get out in front of this fast growing problem commonly known as vote-by-mail? Or does that make me an election denier?
Trying to steamroll people who wouldn’t vote for him over 2 months was not a good choice. Assuming he would be Speaker and moving into Pelosi’s recently vacated office just made him look like more like Pelosi’s Swampy brother. Threatening people who wouldn’t vote for him was the final straw. All he had to do was peel off 1 out of 5 of the initial no’s by offering whatever they wanted. He decided to go full dictator although he didn’t have the power yet. After the meeting and his antics he saw the no’s balloon to 20 and now 21. If he had 2 months to win one man or woman over and couldn’t do it just how is he going to corral anyone to vote his agenda?
Win or lose, McCarthy is permanently tained. He should step aside.
I hereby propose a compromise candidate for Speaker: Ray Epps.
He’s supposedly a Trump supporter and the Dems say he’s a fine, upstanding individual. Win/Win, and he’d get to go to the Capitol building whenever he wants instead of standing outside encouraging others to go in.
Ron White accurately described House Republicans without knowing it. “You can’t fix stupid.”
