Scientist With Ties to Wuhan Lab Claims Covid was Genetically Engineered, Leaked From Lab
Dr. Andrew Huff, former vice president of EcoHealth Alliance, also asserts that “the US government is to blame” because it funded the research.
Should the full and honest recounting of the covid pandemic ever occur, great credit must be given to the British press.
Back in early 2020, it was the UK’s Daily Mail that had published one of the earliest articles that tied the spread of the novel coronavirus to research on bats occurring at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Now The Sun, another UK publication, has an exclusive story from a scientist who worked with the Chinese institute. He claims that not only did covid leak from one of its labs, but it is also genetically engineered.
Dr Andrew Huff, former vice president of EcoHealth Alliance, claims to have had a ringside seat to what he brands one of the greatest cover-ups in history – and the “biggest US intelligence failure since 9/11”.
…In his new book – The Truth About Wuhan – whistleblower Dr Huff claims the pandemic was the result of the US government’s funding of dangerous genetic engineering of coronaviruses in China.
The epidemiologist said China’s gain-of-function experiments – carried out with shoddy biosecurity – led to a lab leak at the US-funded Wuhan Institute of Virology.
“EcoHealth Alliance and foreign laboratories did not have the adequate control measures in place for ensuring proper biosafety, biosecurity, and risk management, ultimately resulting in the lab leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology,” he said in his book, an exclusive pre-release copy of which was provided to The Sun Online.
Huff’s claims align with articles we have covered in Legal Insurrection, especially EcoHealth Alliance and its research activities in Wuhan. I have also reported on the virus’ unique feature, called the furin cleavage site, found in the coronavirus that is indicative of the genetic modification of another virus.
Huff also asserts that the pandemic resulted from the US government funding of the gain-of-function (GOF) research in China.
Speaking to The Sun, Huff said that ‘the US government is to blame for the transfer of dangerous biotechnology to the Chinese.’
He points to China’s GOF experiments, which he believes were carried out within relaxed biosecurity environments which led to a lab leak at the US-funded Wuhan Institute of Virology.
…The army veteran, from Michigan, said the organization taught the Wuhan lab the ‘best existing methods to engineer bat coronaviruses to attack other species’ for many years.
‘China knew from day one that this was a genetically engineered agent,’ he said.
‘I was terrified by what I saw. We were just handing them bioweapon technology.’
The past two years were quite eye-opening for Huff.
In more explosive claims, Dr Huff added: “Nobody should be surprised that the Chinese lied about the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 and then went to extraordinary lengths to make it appear as if the disease naturally emerged.
“The shocking part of all of this is how the United States government lied to all of us.”
One has to ask if this was really an “intelligence failure” or rather an “intelligence-directed cover-up”. Given all that we are now learning about how our politicians, bureaucrats, and security agencies manipulating Twitter, my money is on the second option.
Given how much the American media promoted the natural origin theory, attacked those who offered reasonable and alternative opinions, and accused those who insisted China was hiding facts of “racism,” I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the British journalists who reported news rather than narrative.

I have doubts that release was accidental, in if I recall correctly, it happened after China’s head of bio warfare was put in charge of the lab. Considering China’s actions of restricting movement internally while allowing travel internationally, is damning. I believe that this is another example of their unrestricted warfare.
This has more of a “wet squib” accidental deployment feeling to me than it does a deliberate attempt to release the agent. A deliberate release of a weapons-grade agent in your own backyard is insanely stupid. Why not at least release someplace like India and then blame the US? Or release in the US itself and let them blame themselves?
And while it’s possible that the CCP hierarchy was extensively immunized in total clandestine secrecy, it’s extremely improbable. There’s no way the CCP leadership would have green-lighted a release of a weapon without themselves being immunized.
Add the hysterical “delete everything” response immediately after the international recognition of the virus, and Occam’s Razor suggests accident and coverup, not deliberation.
The actual release appears to have occurred, by the way, several months before the virus was recognized to be a pandemic agent. Most of China’s thrashing in the fourth quarter of 2019 looks reactive, not protective.
This is not to say that China doesn’t consider themselves to be at war with the United States. It’s just that this particular event, if it was intentional, has been a continuing massive own-goal.
Imagine you have a population problem where you have too many old people on pensions. How much would you love to have a disease break out that mostly kills old people?
That description fits almost anything, flu included.
Planned parent/hood. Medicare/Medicaid/Obamacares are 80% unfunded, and the principal forcing of progressive prices. Next: student loans without a future. Next: inflated asset prices (e.g. housing). The Biden/Maidan/Slavic Spring only serves to exacerbate the forward-looking risk for us, them, and the world.
“And while it’s possible that the CCP hierarchy was extensively immunized in total clandestine secrecy”
With what? 🤣🤣🤣
Well, yes, and that’s part of it too – even the original Sinovac, which emerged suspiciously early and was a complete failure, came months after the disease was already spreading. Clever biological weapons producers (which the Chinese emphatically are not) think about these things.
If you intend to immunize any part of your population, you don’t choose a rapidly mutating virus such as a coronavirus for bio-engineering. Even if they had developed, tested, and stockpiled a vaccine before releasing COVID-19, the vaccine would have been ineffective against the strains circulating six months after release.
For a bioweapon, you should start with a highly stable virus such as smallpox, measles, or chickenpox. Secretly change it so the existing vaccines are ineffective, secretly produce a vaccine against the bio-engineered virus, then either release the virus in a foreign country or expose foreigners to it in your country just before they get on the airplane home. When it’s spread around the world and is getting back to your country, your scientists have “just developed” a shot against it…
This was not an actual bioweapon. It might have been a test of their capability of creating a bioweapon, that was accidentally released against their own country. It also does not seem to be the virus that was to be used in the US-funded GOF bioengineering research, which in any reasonably designed experiment would have been a quite benign virus. I think it’s more likely that either they were running a parallel secret GOF project to learn more than they needed to include in the reports to their US funders, or they accidentally included the bat coronavirus in the samples of the target virus, and thus accidentally applied the bioengineered furin cleavage site to both viruses. Either way, some of the enhanced COVID virus was accidentally released, and it quickly tore through the Wuhan population.
That part was accidental. The rest was psychopathic: restrict internal travel in an attempt to protect the rest of China, allow international travel to spread the virus to the rest of the world, lie about whether it was infectious, and have their puppet in WHO support that lie, while Fauci prepared a campaign of lies to cover up his part in funding the related research.
China was furious when Trump made them play *fair* with trade, *fair* being something alien to the Chinese. Previous sub-humans (our politicians, but I repeat myself) agreed to give China whatever it wanted in exchange for $$$$ for their selfish selves, which was a superior investment for this gigantic and powerful country.
The logical answer is that clandestine meetings took place between the DemonRATS and the Chinese to find the way to GET RID of TRUMP. Those pinheads get six stars out of five (sic) and the Chinese can’t get the smiles off their faces.
In answer to your thought that no one purposefully let this monster out of the starting gate to first kill many many Chinese and then send it all over the world including not coincidentally, the United States. China has NO HUMANITY and couldn’t care less how many of their over-populated country die. It was actually a FEATURE! China has proven this time and time again from their earliest history.
History repeats itself, and wasn’t this a prime example?
Most of what you say makes perfect sense. But COVID started in Wuhan, on the doorstep of the facility most likely to have produced it. The Chinese are many things, but stupid is not one of them. Had they wanted to start a pandemic and avoid the blame for it, they could have released it in a major airport and avoided the scrutiny. Even if they had released it at Hong Kong International, they could have called it an “act of terrorism”. The could have blamed anti-CCP forces in their own country, the US, or any number of credible and potentially-responsible parties. But that is not what happened. I have to conclude that they didn’t release it in Wuhan, they lost control of it there.
No one is immune, and the Chinese vaccines are worse than most others.
Good news! NASA sasys there is evidence of potential bacteria on Mars. Fauci wants to bring it back to earth and do experiments with it. The logical choice would be Wuhan.
They can put it beside the millions of years old virus taken from the Antarctic ice sheet. Something tells me the science community is looking for the original extinction event cause.
I knew this immediately for the simple reason that the CCP denied it.
Huff will be accused of being a “Conspiracy Theorist” in 3, 2, 1….
“Leaked,” my rear end. The timing of this lab “leak,” at the beginning of an election year in the U.S., in which President Trump was cruising to an easy re-election, is remarkable.
It’s stupefying that the manifest malevolence and cunning of the Chinese regime still can’t be openly acknowledged by many; thus, they ascribe to negligence what is plainly an act of biowarfare, driven by a leadership that is unconstrained by morality or ethics.
Also, note how the mainstream media twits — the same ones who perennially coddle and grant undue deference to Iran, China, Fatah/Hamas, et al. — aren’t mentioning the patently idiotic “wet market” transmission theory for Wuhan virus, any longer.
When one considers the WIV, one must wonder, “Why put such a potentially dangerous facility in the middle of a large city?” The answer is the existence of a wet market in that city. The Chinese know they’re not the best at maintaining protocols for the containment of deadly diseases. So rather than put the institute in the middle of nowhere, where a leak would be immediately associated with the facility, they put it near a wet market so they would have plausible deniability in the event of a leak, the safety of the community be damned.
It’s always much easier to hire scientists to work in a big city than somewhere out in the boondocks, so research that ought to be out in the boondocks for safety is often conducted in the city because that’s where the staff lives. I can think of exceptions to this in the USA, but mainly nuclear-bomb research facilities that were built during WWII, when they could draft the scientists needed, and were placed in isolated areas because it was thought easier to keep secrets that way rather than because anyone understood the hazards.
As someone who has lived many years in the Far East and who used “wet markets” often with no ill effect, I never believed the wet market theory for a moment.
The CCP regime is both cunning and not quite as smart as it thinks it is.
Besides the obvious, that the virus came from the Wuhan lab, there is the US funding of the research that led to the virus, that was initially not so obvious. And who approved the funding? The former Mr. Science himself, but now Mr. Amnesiac Bureaucrat: Dr. Fauci. As far as I know, this sniveling little piece of excrement disobeyed a government directive not to fund gain of function research, but he did it anyway. He should spend the rest of his days in prison.
As far as why it was obvious that the virus was lab-made is that it is derived from a bat virus of a bat that makes it home some 550 miles from Wuhan.
According to Ben Franklin: “It is the first responsibility of every citizen to question authority.”
This case provides more evidence to support that notion.
More news we all already knew.
I am reminded of the retail store furnishings catalogs of 15-20 years ago, that offered sets of coax cable-based security systems, or — if you were a mom and pop and didn’t have the cash — could buy fake video camera — hollow metal boxes with fake lenses, some with blinking LEDs.
It seems today, our entire federal justice system and our mainstream media have been replaced by hollow boxes with optional blinking LEDs.
Sure is a mighty coincidence that this bioweapon release utterly killed the political career of an undeniably successful president who is loved by the rank-and-file citizenry but is an existential threat to the elites. What are the odds?
Well, to be fair, Trump could have mitigated the damage as data came in showing that masks didn’t work, that only the elderly and/or infirm (with specific comorbidities) were at grave risk, that children had pretty much zero risk (see previous point about comorbidities), that simple things like Vitamin D and washing your hands/not touching your face that mitigate all the other coronaviruses, and etc.
I think South Dakota was the only state to not shut down in the early months of 2020, and other states quickly followed suit, opening up to much backlash from Democrats, their media handmaidens, and the usual suspects. Florida governor Ron DeSantis received the most of their outrage (and did NOT waver one bit, instead he fought back hard for every Floridian), but he was not alone in opening his state against the direct request of Trump.
Not Fauci, TRUMP–who not only blasted DeSantis but also Georgia’s Kemp for opening early. Trump literally claimed that he had “total authority” to stop states from ending lockdowns, he did not, of course, so states opened up long before the feds “approved” it.
Governors were rejecting all the crazy and taking all the slings and arrows of the branch covidians, so it’s not like there was no one in America with an ounce of sanity or backbone. Trump could have and should have stuck to his first instinct from early ’20 to “open by Easter.” Had he done so, he would almost certainly have won reelection.
The economy would have been booming after a comparatively short shutdown (three or so months), NO covid-related voting measures could have been put in place (the country’s open, you don’t “need” those, right?), no Zuckerbucks flowing in to bolster the covid measures, etc.
Trump failed. No one else. Trump. He cost himself the election. Yes, there would have been cheating by the Democrats (there ALWAYS is, it’s nothing new), but it would not have been on the scale that it was due to the changes made in states due to covid lockdowns.
Now, granted, the left hates Trump, and there would likely have still been all the burning, looting, and murdering going on, but how much would that alone have changed the basics for normal Americans? We can’t know, I suppose, but I don’t see a way Trump loses 2020 if Biden can’t hide in his basement or use covid to justify his car rallies with four people in attendance.
So even if your suspicion is correct and the WuFlu was intentionally released to harm Trump’s chances at reelection, Trump could have handled the plandemic (much much) better and still won. He did not.
When news of the virus first appeared in in South China Morning Post in Jan. 2020, they included a story about Chinese researchers at a different lab who concluded the virus had been manipulated in the lab. Those researchers were soon arrested and their paper pulled from research gate, and they were forced to recant.
At about that time, Jan. or Feb., is when I first heard of U.S. gain-of-function research being moved to Wuhan. I had no trouble finding papers on this on the National Institute of Health site, also references to Fauci’s role, and even a paper on use of HCl against coronaviruses. (I have no idea if those papers are still available.)
It was not hard to dig this stuff up on my own, and since spring of 2020 I’ve known the virus was engineered, that treatments for it were suppressed, and that bad players in the U.S. had role. It does not take a lot of effort to know a lot more than what the MSM tells you (“all the news that fits”) but it takes some.
the ventilation system broke down
that was it
the conspiracies to cover up the truth began the next day
We must follow the science.
