Elisjsha Dicken, Hero, Kills Gunman in Mall Shooting
Constitutional Carry in Indiana went into effect this month.
At least three people were killed before a good-guy-with-a-gun, Elisjsha Dicken, shot and killed the gunman. We are thankful Elisjsha was there to stop any other possible deaths. We are also grateful Indiana’s newly enacted constitutional carry law allowed him to protect himself and others.
Praising him as a hero, Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison released Dicken’s name during a press conference on Monday afternoon. The chief also released more information about the victims and the alleged perpetrator, including a timeline.
At 5:56 p.m. Sunday, Ison said, the perpetrator exited a mall bathroom and, using a rifle, began firing at people in the food court.
Dicken, a 22-year-old man from Seymour, had been shopping at the mall with his girlfriend, Ison said.
Within two minutes of the gunman opening fire, Dicken drew his handgun and began firing at the perpetrator. The perpetrator attempted to retreat back to the bathroom, but collapsed to the ground.
The threat was over.
I’m grateful a good guy with a gun was there to prevent further casualties and am praying for the families who lost loved ones in this senseless tragedy 🙏🏻 https://t.co/BEIFBwIxsV

Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison said that Dickens “engaged the gunman from quite a distance with a handgun, was very proficient in that, very tactically sound, and as he moved to close in on the suspect he was also motioning for people to exit behind him.”
Today I spoke with family of Elisjsha Dicken’s girlfriend.
The couple was at Greenwood Park Mall when a gunman opened fire in the food court.
Eli told her to get down, pulled a pistol and shot the suspect.

Spread the names of heroes like Elisjsha Dicken far and wide and never repeat the names of the evildoers who seek notoriety in committing mass murder. https://t.co/4eR9IRbD4v

Constitutional Carry in Indiana went into effect July 1, 2022, meaning as long as you are 18 years old or older and not prohibited from possessing a firearm, you are legally allowed to carry concealed under the new Constitutional Carry law. This goes for residents and non-residents of Indiana.

Another good guy with a PISTOL stops another bad guy with an “ASSAULT RIFLE”! The good guy in the crowd has a major advantage.
And today’s decisive crime cleanup by an armed citizen:

We’re coming out of the woodwork now, Democrats. Be very afraid.
I imagine this man will be stalked, harassed, doxxed, and likely lose his job.
Question for you Legal Beagles: Shopping mall involved as a no firearms policy. Do they have any standing to sue him for violating this?
Can_________ sue him for________
Just fill in the blanks with anything and you have your answer.
Nobody, not even the most frothing Leftist anti-gun nutcase (note the qualifying phrase here) who has anything to do with the mall (end qualifying phrase) is going to even imply suing this guy. Now that won’t stop an endless stream of clueless morons who have nothing to do with the mall from having full foam-flinging meltdowns including attempts to get him fired etc…
If the mall would be stupid enough to sue him, he could countersue claiming a Civil Rights violation for them demanding he be unarmed in their proven dangerous environment!
I was reading a news story about this the other day. in Indiana they need to ask you to leave if they find out you have a weapon. If you don’t, you can be charged for trespassing. It’s a mall policy, not an immediate law that was broken. Other states are similar to this. Since he wasn’t asked to leave, he can’t be charged for trespassing.
The double-edged scalpel of privacy that sanctions taking lives at will, and, in this case, to keep and bear arms to mitigate and prevent taking lives at will. It would be bad optics, indeed, for the mall to prosecute a man who exercised a civil right that closed an active abortion field and preserved the viability of diverse patrons of their business.
Thank you for the information and explanation.
It says he “had no police or military training”, perhaps so in such a setting, but it sure seems he was well trained in some manner, even if watching the right YouTube videos. Not just marksmanship, but everything else that goes into a live fire situation.
About counseling and PTSD, maybe not. Taking someone’s life may not be an ordinary event, but he seemed unusually appropriate in his understanding and execution.
I’d love to know all the details of his marksmanship. Markswomanship. Markstheyship. I read he was 40 yards away when he started shooting at the murderer? I’m skeptical of that because I’ve also read 40 feet. I don’t know. 40 feet is still darn good because I believe he landed 8/10 shots with a little gun. I’ve read Glock, I’ve read Hellcat. I’ve read he was moving constantly, getting people out of the way, all while engaging? I have no idea. I’m just grateful for him and want all those details.
No formal training from Breitbart. He said he was taught to shoot by his grandfather. Law enforcement said he engaged the shooter while motioning people to exit behind him. He advanced on the shooter. I am not skeptical of the distance…. in a mall. No matter. He was cutting the distance, moving and shooting. Ideal tactics.
At the same time we have the glorious dems holding Senate “hearings” saying those “assualt somethings” are too much to go up against… yet a woman and this guy dusted to AR shooters in the last month. Durbin wants to “shame” the manufacturers. Since the Dems are shameless,,, how do they know what shame is?
I also read that the shooting in Illinois was with a 9 mm carbine.
I’m thinking 40 feet because I don’t even think you could have line of sight INDOORS in any mall I’ve been in at 40 yards (120 paces). There’s just too much stuff to even see a person at that distance w/out some occlusion between you and them. This mall looks about as ordinary as any. I dry fire in my shop which is 50 ft- and getting 8 of 10 on target at that distance— under durress— from a cold start- well that would be consistent with a lot practice… but 120 paces— that’s freaking immortal..
I was presuming the shooter went for the “rooftops” effect, standing at the second floor railing, shooting down at the crowd — what we call a “cattle pen scenario,” like Vegas. The weakness of that approach is obvious when someone on the lower floor with a clear line of sight to the goofball at the upper railing, and a collateral-free backstop consisting of the mall roof interior, takes the goofball out.
It take more than training. It takes courage—something that was lacking in Uvalde, Texas.
Best take on that (img).
in reply to henrybowman
That’s pretty graphic, Henry.
That’s why I said not just marksman, but everything that goes into a mindset of being able to engage a target and appropriately accomplish the mission to be done.
He will also in all likely hood relive the event every time he drops off to sleep and at times when he is in a crowd and elsewhere. Most likely he will undergo counciling too. Taking a life is not a normal event though the one he took was justified.
Actually, vindication and victory are good medicine for this. Counseling is for the 300+ law enforcement personnel that did NOTHING at Uvalde.

State law says a private “no guns” posting has no force of law (this is true in most states). It does form a basis for trespass, in that if an owner’s agent sees you carrying, they can tell you to leave, and then only if you refuse have you broken the law, which is trespass.
Grizzly – that is a good question. And the law is a state law, so can differ depending on what state you are in. In Indiana a “no guns” sign at a private place is not law. All they can do is ask you to leave if they catch you breaking their “house rules.” Then if you refuse to leave with your gun – then you can be charged with criminal trespassing. Before that happens, it’s like sneaking homemade popcorn into a movie theater. No state/local/federal laws broken – in Indiana. So a no firearms policy has no standing in this young man’s case.
No Griz,
There is no standing for them to sue on anything related to this.
They ( the mall owners) could possibly ( depending on state law) being sued for not securing the mall or other torts but even those would be long shots.
Look on th dark side much? Come ON man…
Photos of the malll entry doors reveal NO compliant signs prohibiting arms. Policy might be there, but is usually in a format the insurance cmpanies like, but not legally binding.
Most commercial buidlings have, at most, a tiny cartoon with a glock shape, red circle and slash. Not legally binding, it only expresses a preference.
There is a study listing the 60 places armed citizens stopped these loons.

No count is provided, and I don’t have the time at the moment to count them.
Wasnt it the constitution that reaffirms/affirms his right to do so ? Or am i mistaken ? If so , let me know thanks
The Constitution affirms his civil right to be armed and trained, and nationwide statutes affirm his legal right to act in self-defense to elect abortion of, not a plausible, not even probably, but an immediate and progressive risk to his and other lives present.
“to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”… armed, trained, and carrying.
Cynical take: the left doesn’t like Dicken because he is inconvenient to their narrative on so many levels.
Impossible take: the left doesn’t like Dicken because he kept more people from being killed. Also not good for the narrative, but on a much darker level.
Best take on this (img).
This account breaks the left’s narrative on every aspect. I’m not sure any of the left’s normal talking points on gun control fit this at all.
Hats off to this young man, would love to shake his hand and buy him a beverage of his choosing
I suspect it won’t involve alcohol.
Would mean his choice, coffee, coke or lemonade would be fine, would be my pleasure
Dicken, an unambiguous American, with dignity and agency, with liberty and courage, armed and trained as a civil right under the Second Amendment, a first-responder to mitigate the progress of an affirmative action that opened an abortion field with diverse actual and potential “burdens”.
Sen Dick Durbin is now calling for “shaming” AR-15 makers. You know what I’m thinking? Yep. Campaign to thank all of the AR-15 makers in writing and cc the senator.
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2022/07/20/democrat-sen-dick-durbin-time-to-name-and-shame-ar-15-makers/
I live in IL and find Durbin to be an embarrassment. Schoolgirl antics like his proposed “shaming” of manufacturers are typical of him.
If he had been at the schoold in Uvalde all the police could’ve went home and he would’ve neutralized the shooter by himself.
On the other hand, if the Uvalde police had been at the mall that day 20 or 30 people would’ve been killed and the police would’ve done nothing.
Nothing? Hardly. If the Uvalde P.D. had been there on Sunday, they would have tackled this guy, wrestled his gun away & slapped on cuffs while the shooter went about his business.
I think you’re right.
He would have been arrested for attempting to do something.
If Trump had another son, he would look like Elisjsha Dicken…
Where’s the media full expose’ on the perp? Crickets about this kid, who we may find out was seeing a psychologist who prescribed psychotropics.
Pop Psyche is a cancer, we need to hold these “therapists” accountable for the psycho’s they are turning out on a regular basis.
But the MSM is mum…this lunatic doesn’t fit their agenda.
CNN helpfully warns this, lest we think it good that good people are armed:
“And having more than one armed person at the scene who is not a member of law enforcement can create confusion and carry dire risks, according to a data analysis published by The New York Times. For example, an armed bystander who shot and killed an attacker in 2021 in Arvada, Colorado, was himself shot and killed by the police who mistook him for the gunman, the Times reported.”
https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/17/us/indiana-greenwood-park-mall-shooting/index.html
it’s a thing.
you take that risk if you unholster.
Go watch break downs of LEOs clearing active shooter scenes- they don’t know who is who.
So what?
The MSM also likes to yabber about how “untrained” civilian responders may shoot innocent bystanders in collateral damage.
The fact that their “uniformed professionals” do this regularly rarely even rates a statement of concern from them.
What the **** kind of name is “Elisjsha”. My first assumption was that it was a typo, but everyone’s carrying it so probably not. And my second assumption was that was some weird black name, but his picture pretty much rules that out. Irish spelling is weird, but this doesn’t look like that. A web search came up with nothing. So can someone help me out here?
My first take was “heavily fundamentalist.” Match it with the photo and the guy’s training. Just a prejudiced guess.
I agree. It’s an unusual variant of Elisha, or a combination of Elisha and Elijah.
Are fundamentalists into mangling Biblical names by inserting extraneous consonants?
And how on earth does he pronounce it?
Pretty sure it’s pronounced …Badass” as he engaged in 15 seconds after first shots fired by shooter not two minutes as first reported and likely saved 20-30 lives easy. Oh and friends and family call him Eli.
Maybe he’s a Polish fundamentalist.
With the life/death, liberty etc. issues regarding this event, I don’t really care how many consonants he spells his name with.
He could’ve bought a vowel, but to the relief of many in the mall that day, he bought a gat instead.
Would you have said anything if he was Schmuel, Schloime, or Yephim?
That’s very bearish.
I’m in a grr mood. Surgery yesterday. Still shaking off the drugs.
How did it go? Good I hope.
Hope your surgery went well.
It went like clockwork. Cancer in a lymph node. Oh, joy.
Looks like they were trying to phonetically spell the name Elisha based on Hebrew pronounciation? “The name Elysha is usually given to a Boy. And we are pleased to let you know that we found the meaning of your name, A variant spelling of Elisha which is of Hebrew origin and means ‘God is salvation’. May also have the variant spellings of Ellicia, Elesha, Ellesha or Eleisha.. The origin of the name lies in Hebrew. Elysha is pronounced as eh-LEE-sha” You’d probably know better than me if they got it right phonetically.
Pronounce the j the middle as basically a “t”…
Eh-leesh-t-sha
His friends call him George.
He gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “Hurts Like The Dickens”.
He told the shooter, “I’ll give you 15 seconds to pronounce by name.” Boom.
Elisha is properly pronounced “e-li-SHA`”, with the first two syllables more or less rhyming with “jelly” and the stress on the last syllable, with a guttural consonant at the end that has no English equivalent. But it is usually pronounced with stress on the penultimate syllable, and the funny guttural dropped. So just like “Ellicia”.
I just don’t get the extra two letters, and how they affect the pronunciation. I’ve never seen it before and a web search yields no hits at all that don’t refer to this person.
As for the names Grizzly brought up, I’d advice their bearers to drop the C, since it doesn’t affect the pronunciation and just makes it look German. In German the “sh” sound is spelled “sch”. And “Yefim” is not a Jewish name, it’s Russian. But Shlomo and Shmuel are both normal Jewish names (in English they somehow morphed into “Solomon” and “Samuel”, which are at least pronouncable.)
As someone else said before, (Binks) I thought it was an attempt to call to mind both Elijah and Elisha, perhaps a clumsy attempt, especially to one who knows the Hebrew such as yourself, but with good intentions.
That was my initial speculation.
How it is pronounced? No clue.
I have never heard of any other such attempts, though I don’t run in the “most fundamentalist” of crowds.
As a mildly informed but easily could be wrong take on where ‘extra vowel’ spelling of names comes from, other than trying to spell things phonetically in original languages you do not know..I grew up with a number of friend who were Jehovah’s Witness, some of their parents had ‘interesting’ spellings of common names which they saddled on their children. Terethra, Phonda, Ahyleesha. Yes, they were people of pale skin color.
Yeah, I get extra vowels. It’s the extra consonants that looks really weird.
And it’s not just a J, it’s also an extra S.
Elijah and Elisha look similar in English and are pronounced similarly. In the original Hebrew they’re significantly different; the name spelled Elijah in English is actually four syllables. “elly yAhoo”. Though people with both names are often nicknamed “Elly”. As are people with such names as Eliezer, Elimelech, Elisheva (which in English became Elizabeth), Elyasaf,
But the real important question is how does Elisjsha identify as? I would say brave, smart, accurate and could teach a few things to the Uvalde Police Department.
The latest information was the Hero engaged 15 seconds after the shooting started, from 40 yards away and hit 8 out of 10 shots.
Bad guy probably thought this was a gun free zone. The mall policy was no guns, but it doesn’t have the force of law. I suspect that policy is going to be rescinded real soon now.
And he didn’t hit any bystanders.
I’m fairly sure anti-gunners are sorry he didn’t.
Fur sure Big Bear.
No, this policy will not be rescinded soon, maybe not ever. This is not this management company’s first rodeo.
Uber, Domino’s, 7-11, Circle K… all of these outlets have had occasions where the benefits of armed employees were proved to them. Not only did none of them ever change their policies, but they all fired those employees.
Well, it WAS a gun-free zone.
But since he was fully planning to ignore that, so can we.
The Indiana General Assembly did something good in spite of Gov. Holcomb and his fragile State police chief, neither wanted constitutional carry.
I’m betting Dicken was around/shopping at Dicks Sporting Goods in anticipation for hunting season.
I suspect a marksman this based would never darken the door of Woke Dicks.
The times I’ve been to Dick’s, I’ve been treated like royalty. The entire staff averts their eyes.
Facts are stubborn things, right Mayor Nancy Rotering? Are you listening? Or can’t you hear this undeniable truth over the sound of how stupid you are…
I want to know what firearm he was carrying. Not only was he a good shot, but the pistol is pretty accurate too.
Haven’t seen anything on what Dicken’s was carrying. The psycho murderer used a Sign M400 rifle. Had a second rifle in the restroom and I believe I read (but can’t find again) that he also had a Glock. I think the report said a 35 in .357 SIG, but the 35 is a .40. But still, three firearms and at least 100 overall rounds of ammunition.
Another reason magazine capacity laws don’t work. It’s easy to carry multiple handguns, each with 10 rounds.
