Via Times of Israel, With ‘a heavy heart,’ Stevie Wonder pulls out of Friends of the IDF concert:
Stevie Wonder is calling off a concert for a group that raises money for the Israeli military.
Wonder had been scheduled to perform Dec. 6 for Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, which raises money for Israeli soldiers and their families.
Wonder said the United Nations recommended canceling his performance because he is an official “Messenger of Peace” for the organization. The United Nations overwhelmingly voted to recognize a Palestinian state on Thursday over vehement US and Israeli objections as hopes for Mideast peace talks stalled.
Wonder said in a statement he was canceling with a heavy heart but that “I am and have always been against war, any war, anywhere.”
Several petitions had called on Wonder to cancel the performance.
He had come under intense social media pressure to pull out of the event. An online petition calling on him to cancel his performance had garnered more than 3,600 signatures.
“You were arrested in 1985 protesting South African Apartheid, now we ask you: please remember that apartheid is apartheid, whether it comes from White Afrikaaner settlers of South Africa or from Jewish Israelis in Israel,” the petition reads. “Desmond Tutu has recognized that Israel’s Apartheid is worse than South Africa’s — will you stand with us against apartheid and cancel your performance at the IDF fundraiser.”

Just goes to show that his marching against apartheid in S. Africa was little more than a politically correct position with no downside; a cause celebre du jour.
The continuing isolation of Israel as the nexus of evil in the world picks up steam, and now has two notable successes in one week. It won’t be long before the U.N.–which is, after all, not made up of nations but of governments–takes up a resolution to expel Israel.

There are plenty of faux democracies in the ME, that hold elections, respond to mob riots, etc., but no governments in the ME that respect human rights.

Notice the refrain we hear from all these moral weaklings, the attempt to universalize the issue in order to wriggle away. They can’t or won’t make definitions or, perish the thought, actual “judgments.” That’s for others to do, and once made, to take a stand and maybe die for.

Has Saint Desmond or any of his acolytes ever said anything about the apartheid practiced by any Muslim country? Ever seen an Islamic collective prayer and wondered, “Where are the women?” Ever seen the signs on the highway toward Mecca ordering non-Muslims to turn aside? Ever read the provisions of Islamic law that attach a distinctly higher value to a Muslim’s life or a Muslim’s testimony than a non-Muslim’s?
They won’t say a thing, because Muslims are a Designated Victim Class and Jews are not (because Jews have a way of making lemonade from lemons, whereas Muslim just burn down the lemon grove).

Whenever I listen to lefties’ nutty views of supposed Israeli apartheid and such, like from the hipster anarchist at work, it always seems like they’re trying to explain their superstitions. Unshakeable and impervious to logic.

South Africa went from one real and perceived extreme to another. Its “progressive” constitution integrates apartheid as black letter law. Tutu either recognizes individual dignity or he doesn’t. The evidence suggests he is guilty of the latter. His prejudice removes any credibility he may have once enjoyed.
It’s no wonder that Wonder wimped! Scadenfreude auch!
