Latina Republican Mayra Flores Flips Southern Texas House Seat in Region That Hasn’t Gone GOP in 100 Years

Texas Republican Mayra Flores has become an overnight sensation after flipping Texas district 34 red after 100+ years of Democrat monopoly.
She has an amazing story, too.
Flores was born in Mexico and came to America legally with her father as a child. She is now married to a border patrol agent and is part of a new generation of conservative Latinos who are making a name for themselves in Republican politics.

Republican Rep.-elect Mayra Flores says Democrats should take her victory in a special congressional election in Texas as a warning sign to stop taking Hispanic voters for granted.
Flores, who won a contest Tuesday for an open seat House seat along the nation’s southern border in the Rio Grande Valley, made history as the first Mexican-born congresswoman. And she’s the first Republican to win in the heavily Hispanic district since it was created a decade ago.
“The Democrat Party has been in control here in South Texas for over 100 years and feel entitled to our vote. They feel they don’t have to do anything to earn our vote. And we sent a strong message to Washington, and we sent a strong message to Democrat Party that you have to get to work. If not, you’re going to get voted out,” Flores warned in an interview with Fox News the morning after her victory.
The district, which stretches from areas east of San Antonio down to the southern border, was once a Democratic stronghold. Then-President Obama carried it by 22 points a decade ago, but President Biden’s winning margin was just 4.2 points in 2020.
Asked why the district’s two counties that border Mexico — Cameron and Hidalgo counties — swung heavily towards her, Flores answered “because I’m one of them and I’m also standing up for our values. God, family, our community. That’s who we are in South Texas. We’re all about hard work.”
Since this was a special election, Flores is going to have to run for it again in November. Democrats are seething and can’t wait to try to get rid of her:
“MAGA Republican Mayra Flores shouldn’t get too comfortable — she’ll barely have enough time to set up her desk before South Texans send her packing again. It’s all eyes on November now as we gear up to send Vicente Gonzalez back to Congress this fall,” Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney argued.
And DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson said that “the only thing the NRCC proved last night is that they can barely get their MAGA Republican candidates across the finish line when they outspend the Democrat 20 to 1 and if only 7% of the electorate turns out to vote. This seat is a rental for Republicans and we look forward to welcoming Vicente Gonzalez back to Congress this fall.”
Democrats suddenly aren’t interested in historic candidates.

You bet the GOP will have to work hard in November. Democrats will move heaven and Earth and by any means necessary to stop her. She is a threat to the Dem assumption that Hispanics belong to them because of skin color. Actual issues of importance to Hispanics, like to anyone else…not so much.
It would be deliciously ironic if “open borders” were to become a political catastrophe for the Democrats – like the Cuban Americans.

I must confess, it has been over 50 years since I studied and used Spanish. In college I knew I might need it after graduation. So after I finished, what language did I need first? German, naturally and then ‘Czech’.

The problem is, this “special election” was contested under the “old” district, which was D+5. The new district is apparently D+15, which is going to be more difficult to overcome. I’m not saying she can’t win, just that it’ll be more difficult.
There is a reason the racial category is now “White, non-Hispanic” on the forms that keep track of such things. The only difference between whites and many Hispanics is simply how they label themselves. And, to be honest, except when filling out such forms, I think of myself as human, not white or Caucasian. And for history buffs, my direct Irish ancestors arrived here when some Boston businesses had “No Irish Need Apply” signs in their windows.
The d/prog have been exposed for what they are; a coalition of extremist weirdos, tribal grifters and rent seeking power hungry totalitarian. They seek to use the power of govt to require normal Citizens to play make believe.
The aging leadership; Pelosi, Schumer, Durbin et al, made a bargain with the extreme leftists, BLM, proponents of CRT/equity, environmental wackos and Trans activists to embrace their agenda, push it upon the normal folks as a requirement and all the while pretend these things were good.
Why are Latinos, African Americans, Asians, blue collar workers and other formerly reliable members of the d/prog coalition moving towards the GoP? Simple, they refuse to pretend. Any member of a grievance group who fails to vote Democrat are to be immediately expelled from their respective group thus keeping their membership pure.
Well the main article here is about an 85+% Hispanic CD voting to send a r to Congress from these Counties which hasn’t occurred in over 100 years. Not to mention that this CD was a +22 for Obama. That seems like a win to me, and an impressive one at that.
We need to learn to take yes for an answer. Some groups still like Biden? Sure, Quinnipiac May 18 poll showed Approval for Biden rates as:
White 32%
Black 63%
Hispanic 26%
Considering Biden got nearly 90% of the Black vote and roughly 66% of the Hispanic in 2020 that seems like a pretty decent swing away from Biden and d/prog.
The most persistent support for Biden though comes from voters age 65+. They voted 48% for Biden and remain at 45% approval of Biden.
Ironic considering he is eroding ALL of their retirement savings through inflation.
Honestly I think the persistent Biden support in the 65+ group comes down to the gallows humor re his obvious mental decline and physical state. The man is 79, not well and the d/prog pushed him into a very stressful and demanding job.
The older folks may be sympathetic and see a bit of themselves in him and cut him slack. Especially those who got their DL and taken away and put in a home. In so then given the margins in 2020 of less than 200k votes swinging control of HoR, Senate and the WH to the r then DJT and many others Biden jokes may have swung control of govt to the d/prog.

I wish Ms. Flores the best, but it’s going to be more difficult for her in November. The reason is that this special election was contested under the “old” district, which was supposedly D+5. This newly-drawn district, the one she will need to contest for in November, is apparently D+15. That’s a taller challenge.
She now has the incumbent advantage- and- she looks like a winner. There really are a lot of people who like to go with the winner.
I’m sure Guinness will be happy to oblige the leftists with some carefully worded language about her not winning a regular term election.
Flores will be running in a different looking district for the Nov 2022 elections since everything was redrawn. It will be interesting to see how she does in Nov.

Due to her inability to speak and answer questions her Press Briefings have been shortened considerably—I think one was like 13 minutes after which they ushered her off stage the same as they do Biden.

One thing that keeps me awake at night is the fear that by some unexpected chain of circumstances, oil prices may fall or the economy will manage to recover slightly before the election, in time for the Dems to claim credit and, in concert with their inevitable election fraud, salvage their congressional majority.
Dude, you can sleep soundly. That ain’t happening before Nov 22.
