Gunman Kills Multiple Children, One Teacher in Shooting at Elementary School
Law enforcement killed the 18-year-old gunman.
Information is all over the place about the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, TX, located 80 miles west of San Antonio.

Gov. Greg Abbott said an 18-year-old man opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, about 85 miles west of San Antonio. It was the deadliest school shooting in Texas history.
”He shot and killed, horrifically, incomprehensibly, 14 students and killed a teacher,” said the governor, adding that two officers were shot and wounded but were expected to survive.
The deadly shooting began 11:43 a.m. Tuesday at Robb Elementary off Old Carrizo Road near U.S. Highway 83. Robb Elementary has an enrollment of just under 600 students.
Abbott identified the shooter as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos. He was killed by officers.
Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin told Fox News that Ramos barricaded himself inside the school. He supposedly had a handgun and rifle. Ramos was also a student at Uvalde High School.
The school serves second, third, and fourth grades.

Texas is one of the few states that encourages school districts not to disarm their teachers and staff. Uvalde is in one of those areas I would have thought most likely for that to have been taken to heart, but apparently not this particular school.
I don’t know what happened, I have read (and maybe this is BS) that he shot his grandmother, police responded and chased him, he ended up running toward the school, broke through a window and started shooting kids, or perhaps started shooting before he broke in. If that is what happened (again, big if), then that is going to be near impossible to stop without casualties. I support teachers who arm themselves, but not every teacher will chose to carry even if a school district lets them. Anyway, just saying there are lots of bad scenarios to imagine, even with armed adults in a school.
About 1/3rd of all the school districts in Texas allow teachers to carry. People think this state is the most Don’t Tread On Me state in the union. It’s not. When it comes to gun laws, it’s always been behind the curve.
I did read that the city of Uvalde allowed city employees to carry concealed late last year, I don’t know if the school district was included. Perhaps not, because the story I read didn’t mention that, specifically.
“While 40+% of school districts in Texas have armed teachers and staff, unfortunately, the Robb Elementary School in the Uvalde, Texas CISD doesn’t appear to be one of them. Their firearm regulations are detailed (link). There are no provisions in their regulations for teachers or staff to carry.”

I am waiting a while for more reports on exactly how this took place before I write too much. One report says the shooter broke a classroom window and shot the children in that room. If so, then my ideas wouldn’t be relevant. If the shooter got into classrooms via a hallway, then I’ll have specific ideas that have already been tested and implemented.
It appears that the shooter entered the classroom from a hallway. If that’s accurate, such entries could easily and cheaply be prevented by a device invented four years ago by a high school student in the Midwest. Not that anyone actually wants to be cheap and effective.

I did not see the photo of the shooter in a dress. This is the first I’ve seen of it, and it was never linked from Ace of Spades, unless in the last couple hours. All I have wanted was evidence, and that photo is certainly evidence. I do not argue with facts and evidence. Thanks for posting the link. It changes my view.

Most of these people involved in mass killings have a police record, school disciplinary record and a history of bizzaro statements and social media posts. Friends, classmates, colleagues, neighbors, administrators in the aftermath reveal a pattern of conduct. Not for nothing but the photos of these people reveal a great deal. The perpetrator at Sandy hook for example. Looking at his photo alone was anyone really surprised that guy was ‘off’?
The incremental or even seemingly isolated episodes where a person displays a level of antisocial behavior and mal adjusted psychological warning signs need to be taken far more seriously than they are. Our system has drifted too far in the direction of tolerance and indifference to these people.
There are common threads of behavior, speech and interaction displayed and we need to catalogue them and use them as a basis for intervention. Instead our institutions simply look the other way or pass them off as ‘too difficult’ or simply refuse to recognize the dangers these folks present.

Gunman posted on Facebook before attack, governor says
Texas governor Greg Abbott said at a press conference moments ago that the shooter posted on Facebook three times before his attack.
In the first, posted 30 minutes before going to the school, he said he would shoot his grandmother. The second said, “I shot my grandmother.” And the third, posted about 15 minutes before the attack, said: “I’m going to shoot an elementary school.”
Abbott also said the shooter’s grandmother had called the police before he shot her.
