Maryland Teachers Feel ‘Bullied’ Into Displaying Gay Pride Flags Forcing School Board to Adopt New Policy
“The pride flags that are being forced upon teachers do not solely represent the gay community.”
An LGBT group recently donated a bunch of pride flags to schools in Carroll County, Maryland. The school board thought it would be great if teachers displayed them in classrooms as a sign of support for the LGBT community, but not all the teachers were comfortable with this idea.
As we have noted recently, part of free speech is being free from compelled speech.
This is a perfect example of that.

A Maryland school board has moved to adopt a new policy on political symbols that could ban items like the rainbow pride flag in public school classrooms after members said teachers were “bullied” into displaying pride flags that were recently donated by an LGBTQ group.
The Carroll County school board has voted to develop a new flag policy that may only allow the U.S. flag, Maryland state flag and Carroll County flags to be displayed in classrooms.
The vote last week came after a collection of small rainbow Pride flags was donated to Carroll County Public Schools by the Westminster chapter of PFLAG, a national LGBTQ group, and schools staff members were encouraged to display them as support for the LGBTQ community.
Caitlin Edmondson, a Carroll County parent, told Fox News Digital that she found the effort “very concerning.”
“The pride flags that are being forced upon teachers do not solely represent the gay community. They also represent gender identity and transgender ideology,” she said. “As a parent of a 6-year-old in CCPS, it is very concerning that anyone would think it is OK to push these agendas on our youngest and most vulnerable.”
These flags don’t belong in public school classrooms anywhere. The only flags that should be acceptable are the U.S. flag and the state flag.

Some Maryland parents are voicing concerns over potential curriculum changes and the display of rainbow flags inside classrooms.
In Carroll County, the school board will develop a new policy on the use of political symbols inside public schools – specifically flags – after parents brought up the topic of rainbow flags being displayed…
“I don’t believe it should be there, it’s not a part of the whole American tradition and things like that. I mean it goes against my beliefs, but to each its own, don’t get me wrong. I think it puts mixed feelings in the kids’ heads and stuff like that,” said Mike Gletner.
“It is a political symbol and we should not fly the flags in the classrooms. Political views should stay out of education. Education of students, they are there to learn and feel comfortable and that’s why the LGBT flag, the rainbow flag, whatever you want to call it should not be flying. It’s still another political flag,” said Barbara Summers.
That last comment is correct, it is a political symbol. Supporters try to frame this as being tolerant and supportive of others. That’s not what this is about at all.

I like the tactic of the teachers claiming they are being “bullied.” Give the crybullies a taste of their own medicine.
A few years back we were looking to vacation on the Oregon coast. Virtually every hotel had all the language of how gay friendly they were.
At the time I thought, heh- there must be a few business owners who have a philosophy of staying completely OUT of the virtue signaling arena. Then it dawned on me that they gay mafia had approached all the businesses in the town and said- you are FOR us or you are AGAINST us…and if you are against us, we will destroy you. Your virtue signal will be the sign.
The LGBTQ mafia are trying to pull this with AMZN too- they declined to take AMZNs donation for the Seattle Pride parade and made a big press article about how AMZN refuses to purge “hate” sellers from the platform. Their definition of hate is anyone who refused to fly these flags.
These people are the biggest, meanest, vindictive bullies on the planet. Treat them as such.

She doesn’t work for Amazon.
Technically she does as the WaPo is owned by Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. I’m willing to bet WaPo employees get good Amazon discounts.
No, but Jeff Bezos is her boss, and he owns Amazon. So the LGBTQ rejection of Amazon’s donation was a rejection of Lorenz’s (ultimate) employer’s donation, because Bezos also owns WaPo. Her employer and the boss of Amazon happen to be the same person.
Except they are trying to deplatform conservatives. I’m rather surprised AMZN hasn’t obliged. After all they deplatformed Orange Dodge Chargers with flags on the roof.
I recall the newish Parler social-media platform may have been cut loose from their original Amazon web services foundation.

It’s amazing how a minority group of individuals who are a minority of the population has forced the majority of the country to go along with their BS.

Exactly; the “rainbow” flag is a blatantly political symbol. It shouldn’t be flying outside or inside any government building. The same principle applies to the flag of the domestic terrorist/insurrectionist group, “Black Lives Matter” — it represents the political symbol of a blatantly racist, subversive and anti-U.S. terrorist group, which is why the State Department’s decision to fly this flag over several foreign embassies, in a nauseating display of treasonous virtue-signaling, was so contemptible and indefensible.

Sadly, many classrooms no longer have an American Flag. Nor do they instruct students in the meaning of the Stars and Stripes. But I have seen K-4 lesson plans on what each color in the rainbow flag means.
I grieve for America’s future.
