Poll: Majority of Americans Believe America’s Society and Culture are ‘in a State of Decay’
Democrats, Republicans, and Independents all agree America is in a state of decay.
The Trafalgar Group discovered that 76% of Americans, which includes people of all political identities, think America’s society and culture are “in a state of decay.”
Democrats: 61%
Republicans: 85.9%
Independents/No Party: 81.8%
The company interviewed 39.3% Democrats, 35.6% Republicans, and 25.1% Independents.
“Yes” remains in the majority when you break it down by age group and ethnicity. I find the ethnicity findings interesting. White people made up 71.2% of the people polled by the Trafalgar Group. The rest are:
Black: 12.3%
Hispanic: 11.5%
Asian: 3.9%
Other: 1.1%
Look at the answers.
The age breakup didn’t surprise me much. I’d say I’m hopeful since 81.6% of the 18-24 respondents answered “state of decay” but they’re youngins and I remember how I was at that age!
But do we all think the “decay” stems from the same ideas or ideas? The poll had no commentary, but the founder spoke to The Washington Times:
Voters on both sides of the aisle are unhappy with the current state of hot-button social and culture war issues for different reasons, said pollster Robert Cahaly, who founded Trafalgar Group in 2016.
“Social and cultural decline is in the eye of the beholder, but what’s clear is that everyone is unhappy,” Mr. Cahaly said. “People on the left think America isn’t ‘woke’ enough despite the pushback and people on the right think America is too ‘woke’ in a way that’s being pushed on them.”
There’s also a middle segment of voters whose views are reflected by comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, who the pollster noted has announced he won’t do skits on college campuses anymore for fear of getting “canceled.”
“There’s a mix of people in the middle, like Bill Maher, who like the ‘woke agenda’ but maybe think things have gone a little too far,” Mr. Cahaly said.
We all consider America is declining, but we likely don’t agree on what is causing the decline and what aspects are on the decline.

America is not in decline … we’re in free fall.
And “asian” is not an ethnicity. It’s not specific enough to be much of anything. Do they mean “Oriental”, with some Indians thrown in just because no one cares enough to parse them out into their own category, here? Interesting on whomever these so-called ‘asians’ are, none of them are a bit unsure about the direction of AMerica and American society!
Well, “black”, “white” and “hispanic” aren’t ethnicities either. Indeed, the US census explicitly defines “hispanic” as being “regardless of race”.
Sadly the US always did love to label people, and over the past decade intersectionality has merely exacerbated that issue.

It’s 100% due to the news business model relying on soap opera women as the audience. Everything became narrative suiting the entertainment choices of women.

How close we are, not sure, but it sure feels like it’s a lot closer in my life time. A lot closer than I thought it was 10 years ago.
Every people of every age say this, but until the Temple is rebuilt, I think it’s safe to say that the end is not nigh. That’s sort of my measure since so many prophesies have come to pass, but so many others “fit” almost any time on earth (natural disasters, wars, rumors of wars, and on). When the Temple is rebuilt, I will believe His return is soon(ish)–we can’t know when, at what hour–but we do know that the Temple will be rebuilt . . . on the exact location of the Muslims’ shiny mosque, its third most important religious site. This site is the only site on which the Temple can be rebuilt, so until that happens, we’re not going to be the generation experiencing first-hand His return.

As for rebuilding the temple, construction won’t take 40years like the previous rebuild. My point here: rebuild can be fine in a short time.
Yes, the current mosque is #3 most holy for Islam. If we go with the assumption Gods word won’t be denied… and the rebuild WILL take place… start wondering what will it take to make that happen. Either by force or by treaty. One way or the other – it’s going to happen. (My money says it’s part of a treaty – which is a whole mother ballgame on what that means)
My thoughts when I responded was reflecting on different prophecies about how culture and society will be in the tank.
I don’t think there is much disagreement that society is becoming more depraved as time matches forward.

I love your comments, Doc! And I also have no doubt at all the Temple will be rebuilt, on its historic and God-ordained site. This is the Word of God, and it is real and true. It is not for us to ponder how; who thought the Israelits would return en masse from the corners of the Earth to settle in Israel, to make that desert region fruitful and bountifl? Oh, right, it was foretold. God’s will.
That was impossible for centuries, but finally, in 1947, against all historical odds, the Jews had a homeland in their God-given land. God made this happen. And He has said that somehow, by His works, the new, final Temple will be built. And I know that will happen, and when that does happen, we can think about the end times. But we know that without that Temple rebuild, nothing else is the Revelation prophecy can occur, even as much as we wish it.
My view is as a non-Christian and no offense is meant. Here goes.
I see the decline in the following of Christianity with the rise of the Tele Angeles and some of the other frauds that have taken over the religion.
Combine that with the goings-on with clergy and chest Loren finally being brought into the open and I think a lot of people just walked away from it.
I have no dog in this fight. It’s just what it looks like to me as a non-believer.

I see the decline in the following of Christianity with the rise of education.
Sadly educate is now teaching a new religion, so instead of strong ethics based on Christian ideals children are being taught hatred. That’s not really related to whether people are Christian or not though.
And, may I ask where the parents are when it comes to teaching their children ethics, morals, and a sense of what is right and wrong? I am not a parent. But, I have observed over the years the parents are only two willing to abdicate the responsibilities. They have no say in this if there depending upon the schools to raise your children. They should be ashamed of themselves.
As a frequent visitor here I suspect you know that the parents are busy fighting off FBI domestic terror investigations instigated in response to their polite queries regarding the hatred being taught to their children.
Parents have a role but are far from the only teachers.

Let’s say the first cracks of division started with LBJ. Then opened up twice the width during Nixon. Along comes Cart and it widens a bit more. Same with Reagan then Clinton then Bush.
I’ve been politically active since Reagan and looking back, it feels as if the widening sped up during Clinton’s year with the Lewinsky saga, then it went into turbo drive with Obama by comparison, as well as hyperdrive during Trump.
It’s not slowing down. Not with today’s cancel culture and big-tech censorship.
It took 9/11 to bring America back together.
Unfortunately, that didn’t last many years. And who wants to have something like that occur again?
So, buckle up, this roller coaster is nowhere near finished.

They can’t define it, but it’s not hard to define this slide into American totalitarianism. The January 6 antics today, fake and mean-spirited, is an example. Those now in power (and when not in power) are eerily Stalinesque.

Just some random thoughts for consideration, criticism, “canceling”, or for debate.
In my 72 years, I have noted a coarsening of our society. Language that had been limited to seedy taverns, military barracks, or the dining table of a dockside boarding house, is now heard in daily discourse.
Music has become unlistenable. Lyrics that would have brought broadcast licenses under scrutiny is now normal. Singers no longer sing, they screech, moan, yell, or “huhh!” at the end of every line (female singers). The “tunes” are the same eight or so measures over and over again, often with the same lyrics, over and over again.
Look at how people dress. I am old enough to remember when even those with low incomes, or who were outright poor, dressed better. Sure, I just wear wash n wear slacks and polo shirts but at least I am not out in public in colored wife-beaters that are given the polite name, “tank tops”. Grooming is out the window for many.
Road manners in many places reflect the ever-increasing anger in the country.
Again, I am making my observations from the view of a boomer. I will be 73 mid springtime.
Before 22 November 1963, we were a nation that could do anything it set its mind to do. Polio shots. The transistor, Prodigious numbers of good, fast, beautiful cars at prices the average man could afford. One income was enough. We made steel, smelted aluminum and copper. We made our own home appliances, television sets, radios, phonographs.
We had our divisions, but generally we got along fairly well. A car with an I Like Ike sticker was not likely to get keyed or a window smashed.
When Johnson came in, we started the decline. He was a crude, vulgar, vindictive, mean man. Division came up over the “war” in Vietnam, and then the dominoes of our society began to fall. Government agencies sprouted and grew like bamboo at all levels, and now doing business is fraught with danger.
I don’t know where all of this is headed, but, I AM finding that there are folks who think like I do and share some or most of my tastes; they just are not readily apparent.

What Bob fails to mention is that unlike a radio, if you fix a microwave badly, you sterilize your family and maybe burn your house down.
20 years ago, I hung out a shingle to do Macintosh repairs. Today, Apple designs their equipment so as to make it virtually impossible for an independent to repair them. To replace a battery, you have to replace the entire bottom shell of the laptop, because it’s glued in. Same for a keycap (mere repair of missing keycaps now costs three, even four figures).
I am ambivalent over DeSantis’s latest promise to bring chip fab back onshore. Without the same access to slave labor as China enjoys, the economics are prohibitive.

I grew up being mentored by depression era adults, and spent my summers on trash pickup day seeking appliances, radios and TV’s. I scavenged car batteries., and salvaged lead and acid, dry cells for the carbon cathode and zinc, and I mixed zinc and acid to produce hydrogen gas. I actively sought out hearing aid batteries and squashed them in a vice to recover mercury one little drop at a time.
I started just tearing things apart, and eventually learned enough to repair and even design and build radios, amplifiers, and transmitters. Elementary children, boys and girls alike, benefit from dismantling things. They build motor skills and learn things which they otherwise would not be exposed to, with some going on to become engineers and scientist’s.

In other news, my 2007 Mustang is doing great! I got that year ‘Stang because when I opened the hood it still looked like some I could work on. So it’s fine. I hear. Last night I asked the girl who is still a few months shy of 21 to drive because I had 3 drinks.
And now she still has the car.
Apparently I see it in the morning. She has the car. I think there’s a country song somewhere in this. Still, this is a hell of a lot better than waking up in county lock up.
