Props to CNN’s Poppy Harlow for trying to press Weingarten to answer just yes or no and then not accepting the woman’s long-winded non-answer:
HARLOW: “You just mentioned vaccines and I know where you stand personally and where the union stands on teacher vaccinations, but I just want to make really clear really clear to the viewers, is your — is the American Federation of Teachers now supportive of mandatory vaccination for all students 5 and over?”
WEINGARTEN: “You know, look, I think that that’s very fraught right now. I mean, I know personally, you know –“
HARLOW: “I know it is, but it’s important –“
WEINGARTEN: “Yeah.”
HARLOW: “– what you say on it, right?”
WEINGARTEN: “Right.”
HARLOW: “I mean, it’s critical what you say on it right now.”
WEINGARTEN: “So — so I think ultimately, I think we have to get through this month, in terms of testing right now for this month is really important. And if somebody tests positive, they have to be home. If there is an exposure, and you are — and parents are willing to do tests to stay, that’s really important, because we have to stop the transmissibility right now. We’re going to see the same staff shortages that we see in airlines and in — and in the, you know, transit, and you’ll see schools closed, even places that — that want to stay open because of people getting sick. So that’s why I say trust and transparency. In terms of vaccines, I think what Gavin Newsom did in California is really the best model, which is that the semester after they are — they go from emergency use to full authorization and the FDA has done everything that they need to do, that’s what California has said. That is the semester that they become mandatory. But right now –“
HARLOW: “And you support that nationally?”
WEINGARTEN: “And I — and — and I — I personally support that.”
Gee, why would Weingarten give such a non-answer? Well, she is a politician and that’s what they do. But she also knows that parents have pushed back hard against teacher unions and school boards.
Even Biden said schools better remain open. The MSM and talking heads finally admitted the lockdown and keeping schools closed last school year harmed children of all ages.
So parents with kids in public schools…expect the mandate to come soon!
I used to be pro-school mandated vaccines, but as I wavered to full-on libertarian and this stupid pandemic changed my mind.
Especially since schools don’t require a flu vaccine! I saw on Twitter a school district in a state now requiring the COVID and flu vaccine. It was early this morning so I don’t remember where it is, but yeah. NOW they take the flu seriously.

Phase 1 – “we can’t home school… we are both out of the house for work”
Phase 2 – schools shut down and force the kids to stay home
Phase 3 – parents are forced to adapt
Phase 4 – schools reopen. Those parents who were able to successfully adapted choose to continue with their adapted practice.
It’s already happened once, now the schools are going to close again – no wonder homeschooling continues to grow.
Phase 4 is actually – ‘virtual learning’ lets the parents see firsthand the indoctrination and crap that is being ‘taught’ to kids
I was actually homeschooled. In retrospect thinking back, the moment my parents decided to homeschool me was the day I came back with a ‘science’ textbook that said we were going to run out of fossil fuels for electricity by 1984. This was 1992, and the elementary school was still using this ‘science’ book.
In my primary school days (the early ’60s), I did a lot of home self-education from an off-brand set of encyclopedias that were nervously reluctant to commit to the outcome of the Second World War. I regret now having given them away to my cousin while fleeing New England.
The odd thing is that we aren’t even allowed to use textbooks in my state anymore. Now, we have to buy a “tier-1” set of lessons and a workbook for almost every class every year.
Well, I don’t because I convinced my principal I am competent. But a HUGE amount of money goes into this – far more than updating textbooks.
Somehow, “authorized for use in patients (insert age group here)” became confused/synonymous with “medically indicated.” They are not the same things. Authorization for use in patients of a certain age group does not mean that everyone in the age group should be vaccinated, it is merely permission to administer the vaccination to those persons in the age group who would benefit from becoming vaccinated. COVID does not pose a threat of serious illness to most children, therefore vaccination is not medically indicated for them, even though they are eligible to receive the vaccine.
What’s even worse is the use of the word “eligible.”
Total “nudge” word, probably suggested by Cass Sunstien himself.
I imagine she supports vaccine mandates for all children regardless of age, she doesn’t have any kids of her own so she has no iron in the fire.
Also, seeing as how she represents teachers and not children, it’s easy to see why she wouldn’t really care about the well being of the children, it’s not her job to.

Scientific studies are finally saying the quiet part out loud: The viral loads of the infected between the vaxed and unvaxed is…the same. IOW, you’re just as infectious if you’re vaxed than if you’re not. Also, while it’s still very early in Omicron’s circulation, there’s some indication that the VAXED are more likely to spread Omicron. For instance, in Germany where 30% of the population is unvaccinated, they only make up 4% of the new Omicron infections. Weird.
And yet, people like Weingarten want to mandate the vax in people who have ZERO risk of dying from Covid. Why? Good question. Also, when ‘science’ admits the viral loads are identical between the vaxed and unvaxed, they say we ‘need more masks and more vaccinations’ because reasons.

People have lost their minds and I’m afraid with a good number of them, it’s not accidental. It will be interesting to see the studies that will eventually come out on Omicron’s transmission rates vaxed vs unvaxed. That data will likely not be available until sometime in Q1.

Could be a part of it. The source material is in German and while I spent two-years studying German in high school (centuries ago, it seems), my German isn’t very good. Still, what I think the source material (from Robert Koch Institute) said was that the data collected comes from a variety of sources including from the robust testing regimen that was adopted in Germany. So, while hospitals are certainly a source for the testing data, they’re not the only source and probably not even the largest source.
I’ve seen similar reporting coming out of other European countries as well. Belgium, for instance – which is one of the most vaccinated countries in the world – is on fire right now and their data also indicates that Omicron is affecting the vaccinated cohort at an elevated rate relative to the unvaccinated cohort.
There is little to no evidence children have problems with the SARS-2 virus. If they catch it, and get ill at all it is usually very mild.
The kids dying are because a certain amount of young people get the flu and die too. It’s just this spreads so much faster and hits huge numbers of course the death numbers are higher.
I believe the vast majority of juvenile hospital admissions right now are due to parents panic, not kids in dire need of medical care. There are kids ANY virus, even a Noro (Stomach) or Rhino (Cold) one endangers their life, due to their weakness. Not due to extra lethality of the SARS-2 virus.
Locally a JV football and track star aged 17 caught a flu a few years back. He got ill, went into the hospital, and three days later died. In less than week he died, no one was able to figure out why.
When there’s 500, or 1K or 5K cases of flu in an area, you don’t usually get that. There is 50K cases or more, you’re going to get more of what I call the “Lightening Strike” cases and fatalities.
Often in cases where there is a sophisticated autopsy system (Like a big city) and case like the 17 year old you might get a probable cause from the autopsy because the lab has resources and time to look at the case.
Now it’s they’ve got so many bodies, if it looks like SARS-2, it gets “COVID” (The name of the syndrome SARS-2 can cause.) stamped on it and on to the next body to clear the backlog of cases.
I will bet most juvenile deaths are caused by another weakness. I know lots of folks feel their Type 1 Diabetic kid is ‘perfectly healthy” but Diabetes is the top of the list of comorbidities on the list of what kills older people with SARS-2.
The risks of mass inoculation of juveniles with an untested vaccine outweighs the benefits for otherwise healthy kids. Now if you’re over 40, or especially 50 the reward outweighs the risk. Death increase massively after 50 years old. At 40 is where the rise starts.
Obesity at any age is a huge risk factor. I saw a story today with father/daughter who got SARS-2. Both were VERY obese, her worse than him. He was out of ICU/Ventilator but she was not. At 14, that obese, anything can be trouble. He was still on oxygen, and could have lung damage and it will show in the future.
Not obese? Under 40? You’re worries are low unless you have other comorbidities going on. As I said over 50, you’re rolling the dice. Especially if you’re not thin and in perfect health.

Healthy Skeptic dot com (kevin Roche) has been running a lot of common sense and reality based commentary with the accompanying research on covid. (with a heavy focus on Minnesota data his home state).
As everyone notes, there is a lot of data manipulation on covid deaths – died from covid vs died with covid. My educated guess is that there are approx 5% of the total covid deaths that are really deaths with covid.
However, based on the Minnesota data, the actual covid deaths of children – a reasonable estimate is that 60%-70% of childrens covid deaths are really deaths with covid – ie extremely rare that an otherwise healthy child dies from covid.
Weingarten has consistently shown zero empathy for students and parents who are adversely affected by remote learning and the well documented mental health issues of increased suicides. One looks in vein for Weingarten agreeing that teachers should be vaccinated. Perhaps she should attend the next funeral of an adolescent who committed suicide Weingarten’s leadership of a union that only wants to be paid and go on vacations when schools are closed and which is dominated by tenured radicals who want to shove the woke agenda down the hearts and minds of a large number of unwilling Americans is one of many reasons why this union should be decertified

I support educated teachers without an agenda. I don’t support knuckle-dragging bigots.
She just validates my theory of COVID response. With the exception of the power-mad grandstanders (Cuomo, Whitmer, Newsom, etc..), most officials care most about their own vulnerability. Her union members don’t want to die, so they are afraid of whatever the kids got. Joe Biden knows that a good strain of COVID would kill him regardless of how many boosters he has had, and that explains why he is so fanatical about mandates. The same pattern holds with most governors too.
Meanwhile, in the real world that is utterly divorced from the vile and dishonest Dhimmi-crats’ self-serving, politically calculated Wuhan virus propaganda, fear-mongering, histrionics and panic inducement, the deleterious cardiovascular effects of the booster shot in men around age 50 and younger is becoming more manifest, with each passing day.
The teacher unions and education establishment have not yet internalized how deep a hole they have dug. Whatever goodwill folks had towards them has been burned down via:
1. Multiple refusals to open schools
2. No remediation of school infrastructure during closures in spring/summer 2021 despite billions of fed $ to do so
3. Outrageous and exploitive demands for concessions unrelated to Covid before return to classroom
4. Focus on student vax v teacher/staff vax mandates
5. Focus on emotional well-being of teacher/staff v that of students
All that is bad enough. Add in CRT/equity and transgender ideology. Add in the parents who for the first time were able to see via zoom school, exactly what was going on in classrooms. Now the parents and other taxpayers are told by the education establishment that they should have zero input into the policies and curriculum of their schools.
When folks went to school board meetings to voice disagreement and air their concerns the education establishment chose to:
1. Cut off microphone
2. Change meeting times/dates/locations to limit access
3. Have LEO bar, detain or arrest folks
4. File lawsuits to prevent parents and taxpayers from viewing their curriculum and training materials
5. Have the DoJ investigate the individuals and ad hoc groups of taxpayers who voiced their objections
Their days are numbered and they are not yet realized how far the pendulum has swung away from them.
Labor lawyer earns well over six figures a year “representing” teachers. This woman is a cancer.
Small children are innately curious and want to learn, but schools crush that spirit in all but a few.
The union president has zero medical training and qualifications.
So how many 5 and under children does she have? I’m betting none.
