Celebrations Over Kim Potter Convictions: “We Gon’ Let That Bitch Rot in Hell”
People are celebrating in downtown Minneapolis.
The jury found former police officer Kim Potter guilty of first-degree manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of Daunte Wright.
Here are some reactions from the left and Wright’s family.

Convictions of officers who commit a crime are still relatively rare, but verdicts like this, in which accountability prevails, send a strong message to officers everywhere that they are not above the law. So much more is needed on police reform, but this is a critical component.

Proof fear of the Left is biggest motivating factor in the country
Mob jury rules
Yes, this is terrible. There was another story where black jurors outright refuse to convict black defendants.
Well, the race card and the get out of jail free card are the same thing.
OJ Simpson certainly comes to mind.
OJ jury was 9 blacks 2 asians and 1 white.
They all wore black for the verdict and on black juror raised the black power fist as the virdict was read.
We have allowed dredges or our society to intimidate and completely undermine our justice system. The dynamics if this need to change, starting with use of force against those who use threats of or actual violence
Think about it. Letting violent felons walk BACK INTO THEIR COMMUNITY, they’re going be the recipients of actual violence from the same perps.
The problem is NOT the low income blacks who sit on juries. The problem is the high end white, rich folk who own the politicians who make and enforce the laws. Nothing changes until they a very heavy price.
First no one with any intelligence actively seeks out comments from Mr. Sharpton, him being the racist clod that he is. As for the brother making rather stupid and juvenile comments like that…well its a shame to see him show the world how he really is.
You beat me to it.
In the real world it’s the people who are celebrating this verdict – and making a martyr out of another felon – who are going to pay the real price.
Cops are going to stop enforcing the law and bad guys – like Wright and Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin and the rest of the martyr class – are going wreak hell on earth in their community.
Oh well. The road to hell is often paved with answered prayer.
Add George Floyd. People bring on their own deaths, and people trying to keep the peace and provide security pay the price because of mob rule.
Right you are. I doubt many cops will stay on the job there….especially when they learn Florida is hiring if you don’t want the jab! Ask DeSantis!
I’m wondering whether there are going to be any sympathy resignations.
I’ve often wondered why the frog didn’t jump out of the pot when the water started getting hot.
It’s called “retirement” and/or accrued sick/vacation. In Minneapolis there are a large number who are using up accrued time.
They should pay a price, but it sure as hell is not being extracted fast enough.
I always look for the silver lining, and you found it.
I can’t believe Daunte Wright‘s ended up a violent criminal based on his family’s reaction. They seem like such nice, reasonable people.
Right?
oh yea, real salt of the earth people! how insane, she knew and supported his criminal life by not giving him values and a sense of self respectability. But, let’s pamper all who have a criminal background & continue criminal behavior. why not! I notice a lot of young black men are wild and irresponsible.
They are the sort I wish would move next door to all of the “we are all the same” naive people.
I’d rather have a Viking move next door. I’d feel safer.
And, we’re better looking.
I won’t dispute that. But I do miss a previous persona with fur and paws.
I hope his momma found a new drug dealer.
That’s not “justice,” that’s revenge – and even that’s pushing it.
Ancient Israel had cities of refuge for a reason.
What a coincidence. I was just thinking about and re-reading the relevant sections of the Old Testament yesterday about cities of refuge, sparked by the verdict. You know what they say, great minds think alike. Happy Holidays!
Most of these reactions are sickening but no the least bit unexpected.
Can we also admit, however, that Kim Potter never should have been a police officer. There is a reason almost all cops were men for decades.
Kim Potter looks like a librarian or elementary school teacher. She doesn’t possess the size or strength needed to be a police officer. We had standards for decades for a reason.
If you think a male cop couldn’t have made the exact same mistake, think again.
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/bart-police-taser_n_4782053
Johannes Mehserle was a big muscular man, he pulled his gun instead of his taser and killed Oscar Grant as a result. Like Kim Potter, he was convicted of manslaughter.
Neither should have been convicted. Johannes Mehserle was released after 11 months.
She likely won’t be.
I’ll weigh in on that one. I first pinned on a badge in 1979. Even then, in my city, there were relatively few female officers. Those who joined us back then were largely some very tough ladies, and we used them a lot in roles that required a female, such as decoy operations. Back then, if a female survived the academy and the hard time given to any recruit, she was going to be pretty darned good. I have fond memories of working with many of them, and knew quite a few I would go through a door with anytime.
But then, over the years, we saw a dilution in background check standards for police recruits, and lessening of academic and physical standards in the academies I taught in. We were told in no uncertain terms that certain candidates “could not fail”, and to “work with them because the department needed them on the job”, meaning they needed the women and minorities numbers.
Along the way, we still got some really good female and minority officers, it was just that along with them we got a lot of others who weren’t up to the job. But having said that, as policing evolved and cops were called on more and more to be social workers with badges, there were expanded roles for officers who really were not suited for rolling around in the dirt with bad guys. The trick was to spot them early, and send them to Community Services, or Crime Prevention. Better they be out doing presentations dressed as McGruff the Crime Dog than out on the street where they could get someone hurt. I’ve also known some of this type of non-physical officer to excel as investigators. You can tell pretty early which recruits are going to be your “hands on” cops, and which are going to be those who think everything can be done by remote control.
In the last few academies I taught in I saw some extremely smart and well educated kids come through, male and female. The biggest problem I found with them was that very few had ever been in so much as a schoolyard fight, and had no intention of going “hands on” with a suspect. They told me “that’s what my gun and TASER are for”. Wrong. The notable exception were the recruits who had just left the military desert wars, who could be a bit TOO aggressive and had to be calmed down a bit.
So I’ll say that as law enforcement exists today, there is certainly a place for women. There are things they can do that male officers just can’t. The trick with any officer, male or female, is to identify what they are good at, and what they are not, and trying your best to put them where they can be put to best use.
Kim Potter is probably a very nice person, but just as probably ill-suited for patrol operations. I could tell just by watching the video that she is probably a “talker” and not a “doer” when it comes to being on the street. In the old days, Duante Wright would have had his non-compliant ass pulled out of the drivers seat, and been introduced to the pavement the moment he failed to follow commands, and if he further resisted, he would have been given a “wood shampoo”, which is what we used to call using our night sticks on a suspect.
But instead, Wright got a new rookie officer, and that officer had a clearly soft FTO who only knew how to handle the situation with appliances. She just chose the wrong one. You’d think that in 26 years on the job, she’d have been re-routed to some role she was good at. This wasn’t it.
None of this changes the fact that Potter was railroaded into prison. I feel genuinely sorry for her, and her family.
Amazing post. Thank you for the insights.
Officer Luckey was right there trying to cuff daunte, and what did he do about the perp slipping his grip? Absolutely nothing, which is what every white cop should do when dealing with a crime that doesn’t involve an INNOCENT white victim (i.e., one who doesn’t willingly associate with blacks).
a biased and unreasonable observation of what she should have been, and this punk kid should have had a job, been responsible instead HE’S GOT A RECORD OF CRIME GOING WAY BACK. MAYBE HE SHOULD NOT HAVE RESISTED!
It’s foolish for any young person to seek a career in law enforcement, given these risks of severe prison sentencing for mistakes. This shooting was accidental, but the jurors in far-left Minneapolis will convict an innocent person, so they avoid the label of racist. I hope those jurors suffer the effects of the lawlessness that they are creating. I know many people on my Nextdoor Neighbor board, who were previously anti-police, are complaining bitterly about their stolen cars and burglaries.
AMEN!
These are not good people. They do not mean well.
Can we just give MN, Ca, and NY to the left?
I’m good with that, if they are not allowed to EvER migrate to the United States
EVER
Split the Left Coast states down the middle. Brake off NYC and throw in Chicago.
Even though I currently live there, you should probably add in the entire I-95 corridor from DC to Boston.
Used to live there. And, yep.
Triggering the big one would fix the West Coast problem.
We could just give Minneapolis to Canada. MN would then be one of the most conservative states in the Union. We could do the same for Detroit and Seattle. And EASILY pick-up Six Senate seats.
For the Next Civil War, we won’t leave the Union. Instead, we will kick the asshole states out!
I say give Minnesota and New York to Canada if they will take them. Then we should build a border wall to keep Californians from migrating to the US except by special application. We should test them for evidence of Leftism before letting them in, just like my doctor’s office takes patient’s temperatures in the waiting room to screen for Covid.
It’s way past time to stop policing these people. I think despite everyone having a different opinion on what I’ll mean by this, they really, REALLY don’t deserve it.
Nope. If you want change stop responding to 911 calls from the rich folk who own the politicians who make and enforce the laws. They are the problem.
We are truly upside down. Oh well. I guess a couple of years of hands off policing in some of these major cities will be a net benefit in the long run. It will be ugly and sad for the innocents but let the self cleaning oven run and rid itself of the problems.
They will all be Detroit
Time to sell all stock in taser companies. If I was a police commissioner, I would dump all tasers and instead just issue lethal weapons. If no taser was available, she would have been forced to use a gun and the justification for manslaughter would have been reduced.
I think you are prophetic.
I admit I am an old fart and remember a better time when criminals feared the cops. Back then, if you resisted, you got dead. We are devolving as a society into barbarism quicker than I ever imagined.
Civilization is a veneer that is extremely thin .in some places.
6 to 8 years — the sentencing guidelines in the Potter case – according to NY Times. Maximum is 15 years. Wow. No job is worth this risk. If I were a police officer in a BLUE state I would send resumes out today.
The smart strategy going forward for cops that remain on the job will be to punch in and then take an eight hour driving tour of the city. “Just another peaceful, uneventful shift! Nobody seems to violate any laws near me, ever!”
Just observed a lot of “Peaceful Protests”
What you observed is hooligans hooligating.
That was what a gig as a NYPD patrolman was in the 1970s onward, when the NY Mafia had great inroads to the NYPD.
Until Rudy Guilani came to town.
Now Bill Di Blasio has given it back the streets to even more malignant thugs.
Let’s see if Eric Adams can clean things up, if at all. (He has installed the Pete Buttheads of police chiefs in charge: we’ll see if she (a young black woman) can rise to the occassion of commanding a 40,000 member organization, given her only experience was being in charge of a command of 200.)
New Yorkers: you dumb suckers.
Street goons, gathered for 20 dollars per hour.
Don’t let their handlers prevail, or they’ll make these street goons mayors and DAs of our cities.
Then again, we do have Lori Lightfoot and Bill Di Blasio and Eric Garcetti. There’s also Keith Ellison and Kim Foxx. And LA’s cretin, Gascon.
They’re way ahead of us.
Feel sad for her family.
Nothing can bring Wright back. The Wright family surely knows it was an accident – – so their celebration is really inappropriate.
THERE ARE NOW TWO VICTIMS IN THIS TRADEDY.
“so their celebration is really inappropriate”!!!
You have got to be joking. What do you do when you hear you have won the lottery? Smile sweetly and say nothing, or wrap your tail around the longest vine and swing down, screeching, from the top of the tree?
CRUMP will get her a big payout, her loss will be sweetned when the check comes in. bet on it, the mom is no lady of valor!
People like the pseudo-preacher Sharpton are truly evil. They cannot hide it, even if they try.
He doesn’t try to his anything
The Wright shooting would have been perfectly justified if it was intentional. The situation was almost identical to the Jacob Blake case that the Kenosha rioting was about.
Blake escaped from police attempts to restrain him and was getting into his car when the officer right behind him, reasonably assuming that Blake was going for a weapon, shot him in the back several times.
The police review board found that shooting to be fully justified. (RIOT time…)
Like Blake, Wright had also just escaped restraint and jumped into his car when Officer Kim Potter tried to Taser him. It would have been a completely reasonable for her to have assumed he was going for a gun and shot him, and this was presumably her reason for trying to taser him.
If shooting was appropriate how can they say trying to taser was a crime? Sure looks like a cowardly jury bowed to the race mob. Kenosha showed them what happens when police are not punished for shooting black criminals who appear to be reaching for guns. Resisting arrest is a special black right or something.
Subconsciously Potter probably knew that she should be shooting Wright, not tasering him, and that is likely why she pulled the gun when she thought she was drawing her taser.
The situation was super-dangerous, worse than in the Blake shooting, because the officer who Wright had just pulled away from was still standing inside the open car door towards the hinge with his head above the roof, completely at the mercy of any weapon Wright might be going for, and he was stuck there as Potter drew her weapon on Wright. She had a responsibility to save him (her trainee, a black man) from being murdered, and she did save him.
“The Wright shooting would have been perfectly justified if it was intentional.”
Bill Cosby taught me 50 years ago: never say oops.
While I am sure that I disagree with the verdict, arguments about the application of “recklessness” aside, I really pains me that we are holding Daunte Wright up as pillar of society. If Potter had not accidently shot him, he we would be on his way to prison for assault on police officer. No exactly a role model, is he?
excuse me…. it should say “While I am not sure that I disagree with the verdict…”
Same as George Floyd, er St. George Floyd, a model citizen who never hurt a soul
If shooting was appropriate how can they say trying to taser was a crime? Sure looks like a cowardly jury bowed to the race mob. Kenosha showed them what happens when police are not punished for shooting black criminals who appear to be reaching for guns. Resisting arrest is a special black right or something.

exactly–imagine a society where young people are encouraged(in some cases outright praised)for resisting arrest–where looting/shoplifting/assault result in a citation, a no-bail hearing and timely release to repeat the offense(s) if they’re “arrested” at all–what in the hell are police officers expected to do?–risk their lives and liberty to apprehend criminals only to see them released again and again?–if the police are reduced to glorified hall monitors then what recourse does the honest public have left?
the second ammendment
“HAPPENING NOW: Celebrations in downtown Minneapolis MN as #KimPotter has been found guilty on all charges”
Looks like more Celebrations (riots) tonight in Minneapolis.
These are simply events staged in collaboration with the media to do damage through manipulation of the public perception.
AG Ellison babbling about what Wright would have been if he had been given a chance. I paraphrase. Wright would have been a convict. He shot at least one person in the head already and left him in a wheelchair. Why he was out of jail at the time is a major failing of our CJS.
My advice to all law enforcement officers in Minnesota is to tender your resignations and move to Florida or Texas where your services will be welcome.
A travesty of justice but entirely expected,
That being said, her sentence should not be one day longer than Mohammed Noor, the Somali police officer that shot and killed an innocent 911 caller.
Traffic Jam of Cop Cars at all Wokesota Dunkin Donuts. Cops put themselves on the Do Not Call list. Any cop who stays there deserves what they get.
What about Wright’s extensive criminal record? what about his resisting arrest ? Can we see some analysis about the jury instructions and any possible grounds for an appeal?
I’ll let others more knowledgeable than I comment on jury instructions, although I understand the judge’s instruction on the law could leave an opening for appeal.
With respect to Wright’s criminal history, the only thing that is admissible is what Potter knew at the time of the incident. She knew he had an outstanding warrant, that’s all. Didn’t, apparently, know about his history of flight. Just the warrant about the gun charge and the restraining order.
This is Minnesota. I’m sure she will appeal, I’ll be 100% shocked if the conviction is overturned. The best case is it gets sent back for retrial because of an error in jury instruction and, given the jury pool, she’s looking at the same result. But again, I’m just guessing. I’m not a lawyer and haven’t been in a Holiday Inn Express in decades.
It’s clear that in some jurisdictions of this country the cops are better off letting Black perps go, warrants or not, than risk the same fate as Potter and Chauvin. Let the community deal with the problem.
Two (white) law enforcement agents railroaded over the unintentional deaths of two (black) career criminals? The DA of Hennepin County nailed a few hides to the wall, but didn’t (in my opinion) do much to help his county. Will Minneapolis be the next Chicago in crime statistics (and unsafe places to live)?
MN has even worse fate in store for them
Chicago, for all it’s faults, is, or used to be ,a fun place
Minneapolis, not so much
we’ll see how far they get with being the Mogadishu of the midwest
Let us not forget: Daunte hasn’t re-offended since the incident
oh yes he has, he just killed a beautiful woman and mother
Congrats to Daunte’s mom, she raised a real loser
Cha-ching.
LEOs, you have been warned, if you continue to serve in these shitholes
everything that comes your way is on you
esp if you are female
I mean, just why do it to your family ?
must be pretty shitty for Chauvin and Potter
sitting in their cell, thinking “if I woulda just stayed in my cruiser and had another donut, I’d be home for Xmas ”
damn shame
I would say to the people of MN to get the hell outta that hellhole
but that train has long left the station
The left imported these cretins into that state.
Now a no-go zone.
Don’t buy anything from that state, let her rot.
I’ll make a 2024 prediction right now
Trump takes MN EVs
True colors shown. Shut all Leftists out of your life.
Already have. Moved to deep red state with the best gun laws in the nation.
Don’t visit a blue city or state. You put your own liberty at risk in case something happens.
Notice, and nobody does, of the 50 people out there 70% are just filming for social media clicks.
