Chicago Mayor Lightfoot Asks Feds for Help to Curb Rising Crime and Violence
Lightfoot prefers to concentrate on COVID and let the feds handle the real problems in her city.
Chicago’s crime and violence have grown since the COVID panic began in March 2020 and George Floyd’s death in May 2020.
President Donald Trump offered to send in help in July 2020. Mayor Lori Lightfoot immediately rejected the offer because she obviously had control of the situation.
Lightfoot softened her tone a little after 15 died in a shooting at a funeral. She welcomed an “actual partnership” but would not “dictatorship.” (Look in the mirror, lady!)
Crime and violence continue to climb. The latest numbers show Chicago has hit a record with students dying in shootings before they reach high school.
Lightfoot begged Attorney General Merrick Garland for help:
Lightfoot made three specific requests of Garland. One being that he send ATF agents to Chicago for six months in order to “increase the number of gun investigations and gun seizures.”
Secondly, Lightfoot is requesting more federal prosecutors be sent to the city in order to handle new crime cases that will be generated by the federal government also sending more ATF agents to work on investigations.
Thirdly, Lightfoot wants Garland to send additional federal marshals to Chicago to help the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and Chicago Police Department with tracking down thousands of individuals wanted on warrants.
“We need these additional resources well in advance of summer,” Lightfoot said.
Lightfoot demanded so much more because, from what I can only assume, she doesn’t want to do her job. She has to stop COVID, y’all:
Lightfoot also called on the Department of Justice to bring together “multi-jurisdictional task forces to stop illegal gun trafficking across state lines from southern states like Mississippi, up the interstate, through Indiana, and over the border to Chicago.”
Lightfoot went on to say that the city must continue to get ghost guns off the streets.
“They have no serial numbers, are untraceable, and can be assembled at home,” she said.
“I want to remind you that anyone who provides information about the location of illegal guns that leads to a seizure and prosecution will be eligible to receive up to $15,000. We have a million dollars set aside. We are serious about this and we need your help,” Lightfoot added.
Super. Duper. Cereal.
Chicago has 4,270 shooting victims for 2021 as of Sunday. This time last year the city had 3,930.
The city also has 783 homicides in 2021 compared to 749 in 2020 during this same time period.
The public has witnessed 249 expressway shootings in 2021 while 2020 had fewer than 130 in 2020. Carjackings went up from 1,352 in 2020 to 1,781 in 2021.
Lightfoot said the city needs to work on the “root causes” like poverty, unemployment, homelessness, and drugs without providing any real solutions. She mentioned was expanding “the number of officers who investigate gangs and increase the number of homicide detectives.”
I said real solutions because Lightfoot activating an ordinance involving civil asset forfeiture is not something that will work nor should be legal no matter the target. We’ve seen governments abuse civil asset forfeiture.
It’s too late for Chicago.

They are desperate for more social workers to help tame down the South Side with love and understanding. It takes time to clean up the mess those cops made by hunting down innocent black men like it is a sport.
Besides, after the Chauvin and Arbery verdicts, no white cop will do a damned thing that might offend anyone in S. Chicago. At most this could cause them to lose their job, which is better than getting prosecuted for doing it. They’ll need intensive social work!

All those new investigations and seizures will, of course, be done in accord with federal law and the Constitution, right (/sarc)? Protecting the rights of the citizens, right? Are so-called “ghost guns” really that big a problem in Chicago or is this just an attempt to deflect responsibility for the failure of her policies and attempts to control the crime and violence.
She also wants federal marshals to track down thousands wanted on warrants. Would those be people released using COVID as the excuse, or the ones released without bail in their own catch-and-release program who, predictably, go right back out and commit more crimes?
Lightfoot, whom has the facial expression of a fifteen year old kid reacting to a barking dog while standing on a porch fifteen miles from home on the night of October 31 and clutching a Dollar General bag that has a torn handle.

What this achieves is shifting blame away from herself. If she allowed (and funded) the CPD to do its actual job, the blowback from the “community” would be huge, because racism. If she lets the Feds do her dirty work, well, that’s just those Feds being overzealous and they don’t understand Chicago. And if the Federal intervention does nothing to change the statistics in Chicago, well, again, those Feds aren’t doing it right.
The real problem is accountability, coupled with the castration of the CPD. The CPD won’t chase you. The CPD won’t do stop and frisk. The CPD can’t answer many 911 calls. Property crimes are seldom prosecuted. Catch and release is the position taken by law enforcement.
What we know about are crimes that are reported, generally where someone is hurt or killed. I’d be willing to bet that there are thousands of unreported property crimes in Chicago because the police don’t show up or victims expect that nothing will happen — even if the criminal is caught. And this simply is emboldening the criminal class. If there are no penalties, why worry about being caught?

This is exactly according to the plan. Allow crime to get out of hand and then cry for help. Here come the Feds to the rescue! Flood the city with ATF agents and Federal “Field Marshalls” to oversee it all. When it works in Chicago then move on to the next city. San Francisco? Minneapolis? And across the country until we have a nation wide federal police force that answers only to the Elites in DC.
Mayor Lightbrain should put the CPD back on the streets with a directive to enforce the law.

For those of you who aren’t gun people, this is 100% scapegoating and misdirection. Tracing serial numbers has bupkus to do with solving crimes. First, you have to have the gun and not the perp, which almost never happens. Second, the gun has to trace back to somebody other than a perfectly legal owner who had it burgled, which again almost never happens. Third, the “ghost gun threat” figures are routinely inflated by including perfectly common guns that had their serial numbers eradicated, which is way more common than actual handmade guns.
How useless are serial numbers? The Canadian national gun registry, established 1995, was discontinued in 2012 because it had never been successful at solving a single actual crime… except for the brand new crime of “failure to register“: an entirely artificial “crime“ existing ONLY because the government had created a registry! It also had cost a thousand times more than originally projected by its advocates ($2B instead of $2M — sound familiar?).
Ghost guns sounds scary. But ghost guns don’t kill people. Ghosts do.
Now that the data are in it is time to push hard against the Antifa, BLM, crazy leftist types with a hard wedge.
Every time one of these incidents occurs and the usual hustlers want to “punish” the police by defunding them, you have to remind them that the best way to combat this problem would be to RAISE not lower police pay. Economic forces would clearly indicate that raised wages for police lead to higher quality police recruits that can do better. Make sure that the raised funds for police go to workers and not admin/bureaucrat bloat.
Besides, aren’t the Dems the ones that say higher wages are good for society and that police are supposedly a form of socialism? They should be cheering heavily for these raises….point out their hypocrisy.

Lightfoot has no intention of curbing crime. She’s hoping to make the public believe she is, and maybe get some more federal money in the process.
If she wanted to do anything about crime, she’d stop restraining the police from doing their job, and back them up when they do it. Then, she would pressure prosecutors and judges to put criminals in prison, rather than kick them back on to the street with non-prosecution, suspended sentences, probation, etc. It’s all a farce and a fraud — if they wanted to discourage crime, they wouldn’t be doing what they are.
Agreed that this is “the plan” to eliminate local law enforcement and supplant it with federal enforcement. She and Foxx are just 2 of the many useful idiots they have recruited to carry out their diabolical scheme. An honest media would be asking her what “she” is doing about the crime problem. It is, after all, the job of the mayor to oversee the safety of her citizens. If she cannot do it, she needs to resign and let someone else take over the Mayor’s position and duties.
