Democrats Are Now the Party of Wealthy, Woke Elitists
Victor Davis Hanson breaks down the new left and how we got here.
The Democratic party of today presents itself as a champion for social justice, the defenders of the little guy, the champions of the downtrodden and oppressed.
The reality is that Democrats are now the party of the wealthy elite, who have pushed wokeness on the nation, knowing they will not suffer the consequences of their policies.
Hoover Institution scholar Victor Davis Hanson is a national treasure, and he breaks down how we arrived at this point in a piece at FOX News:

How often during the last year of wokeness have middle- and lower-class Americans listened to multimillionaires of all races and genders lecture them on their various pathologies and oppressions?
University presidents with million-dollar salaries virtue-signal on the cheap their own sort of “unearned white privilege.”
Meghan Markle and the Obamas, from their plush estates, indict Americans for their biases.
Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors Brignac decries the oppressive victimization she and others have suffered — from one of her four recently acquired homes.
Do we need another performance-art sermon on America’s innate unfairness from billionaire entertainers such as Beyoncé, Jay-Z or Oprah Winfrey, or from multimillionaire Delta or Coca-Cola CEOs?
During the 1980s cultural war, the left’s mantra was “race, class and gender.” Occasionally we still hear of that trifecta, but the class part has increasingly disappeared. The neglect of class is ironic given that a number of recent studies conclude class differences are widening as never before.
Hanson notes this is changing the demographics of both parties:
The two parties are switching class constituents. Some 65% of the Americans making more than $500,000 a year are Democrats, and 74% of those who earn less than $100,000 a year are Republicans, according to IRS statistics. Gone are the days of working people automatically voting Democratic, or Republicans being caricatured as a party of stockbrokers on golf courses.
By 2018, Democratic representatives were in control of all 20 of the wealthiest congressional districts. In the recent presidential primaries and general election, 17 of the 20 wealthiest ZIP codes gave more money to Democratic candidates than to Republicans.

Nations have often gone mad in a matter of months. The French abandoned their supposedly idealistic revolutionary project and turned it into a monstrous hell for a year between July 1793 and 1794. After the election of November 1860, in a matter of weeks, Americans went from thinking secession was taboo to visions of killing the greatest number of their fellow citizens on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line. Mao’s China went from a failed communist state to the ninth circle of Dante’s Inferno, when he unleashed the Cultural Revolution in 1966.
In the last six months, we have seen absurdities never quite witnessed in modern America. Madness, not politics, defines it. There are three characteristics of all these upheavals. One, the events are unsustainable. They will either cease or they will destroy the nation, at least as we know it. Two, the law has largely been rendered meaningless. Three, left-wing political agendas justify any means necessary to achieve them.

VDH is the best writer out there today analyzing the state of the nation.
To be honest, where went they the party of money? They bribed and talked big but never did anything because you can’t get more money if you solve a problem.
VDH is one heck of an astute observer. His commentary is insightful, accurate and easy to understand. I can only wish to be as powerful and effective communicator as he is.
I highly recommend all his books, particularly ‘Fields Without Dreams’. That book shook me out of my strict adherence to libertarian dogma in favor of a more common sense, localized approach to problem solving, with an emphasis on the importance of retaining traditional institutions and values without which our common culture and sense of National unity withers and dies.
Hanson’s essays are essential reading for conservatives. From his California perch, he has a special vantage point from which to observe and ponder the Dhimmi-crats’ increasingly brazen, unabashed, gleeful and obnoxious totalitarianism and their utterly destructive, neo-communist agenda.
Interesting article, now lets talk policy. It seems to me that whilst its true that the Democrats have a significant number of wealthy types at least they are looking to address problems confronting society. Republicans seem more interested in picking up culture wars to hide the lack of policies.
I have wealthy relatives in Asheville, NC that are “wealthy elites” and they are rabid leftists that reel in horror at the freakery on display daily in the freak capitol of the South. They love their liberal bubble of circulatory affirmation…..as long as it is “they” types in the bubble.
It falls apart for them when the new Democrat freak shows up.
Virtue signaling is their religion.
I grew up a couple of hours from Asheville when it was a nice sleepy mountain town. Then it got ‘discovered’ and utterly ruined. “Virtue signaling”….heavy on signaling, short on virtue I bet.
Property prices went through the roof when the leftist yuppies infested that beautiful city. My working-class friends, most of them sort of carpenters on retainer for the new class of wealthy jackoffs with hobby farms, hung on until they could no longer afford house rent, never mind an opportunity to obtain a mortgage on a house.
They will probably turn it into another San Francisco.

Question is do we sacrifice elections and cultural power to them by fighting for wealthy elite tax cuts or go for a more working class agenda?
The Republican Party has in the recent past often tried to take things away from the (now only base) of it in order to fund increased national security state spending and upper class tax cuts.
Working class pays a net zero taxes, and the middle class federal tax rate is low unless you live in a blue state.
In light of that why the focus on taking away Obamacare via lawsuit (raising practical expenses by hundreds of dollars a month) in order to pay for a promised second wave of (upper class working/lower class pays net zero federal tax rate) tax cuts?
Working class votes Republican because of cultural issues, it is time to update economic policies to reflect that.
You apparently either don’t pay federal income taxes or believe Socialist/Communist Party propaganda. One of the two must be true for you to ignore even the latest tax savings which President Trump’s tax reforms gave us.
That tax reform mostly benefited the rich, and has ended up adding circa 2T$ to the national debt. The tax reform did barely anything for working class and middle class types

It is because the reason we have lower class votes is cultural issues and values issues not economic issues.
As long as we aren’t even the party of status quo taxes but of tax cuts we are the party of the rich.
The best tax rate is zero. It is a cultural issue not to stall the economy and not to chop up the ladder to success. Sure Republicans and conservatives have to learn that the rich and corporations are not our friends or allies, neither are courts, the military or police. This does not mean we should adopt policies we disagree with to punish them for political reasons, that is what leftists do. BUT, having said that, we should definitely end subsidies and hand-outs to corporations, we should definitely ban corporate/union/PAC funding of campaigns. We want lower taxes for everyone, we want a more free economy and we can do that without deluding ourselves.

These people are able to continue to breathe only because Democrats subsidize them. If they had to function on the level of 18th century American adults, they’d all be dead, and the national average IQ would be significantly higher.

History doesn’t end in 1865 after the civil war Republicans continued to be the party of a small clique of industrialists while the Democrats reformed and became the party of labor (especially after the Triangle Fire).

Doesn’t change the history of the two parties. But while were on the subject do you want to do away with the police union so it stops representing cops who got fired for being Republicans and getting them compensation?
How about pilots unions that would fight for a pilot if he got fired for being Republican (unlike police officers that hasn’t happened but an incident in Georgia shows it certainly could in the near future)?
I think we need to change our relationship with good unions (they aren’t all the teachers union), which shouldn’t even be a close call considering corporate America is woke and Democrat.
You can join a union, but you should be free not to join a union. You should also be able to get a job even if you aren’t union. Unions should not be in control of the company.

I never said the parties switched places I said the Republican Party was the party of the industrialists and that as the labor union movement began the Democrats backed the labor unions against industrialists and as a result (correctly) got credit for being the party of the working class.
By the way how about answering the question do you want to do away with the police union and tell cops who got fired for being Republicans who are using the unions to address the wrong done screw you I hate your union too much to care that you need one?
Government employees should not be in unions.
