The Mandalorian Star Gina Carano Fired, Dropped by Talent Agency for Social Media Posts
Don’t forget that Disney defended its decision to film a movie near concentration camps holding Muslim Uighurs.
The mob has gone after Gina Carano, who plated Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, for months over her social media posts. They won after she compared being a Republican today to Jews during the Holocaust.
Lucasfilm said Carano is “not currently employed” by them, “and there are no plans for her to be in the future.”
“Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable,” concluded the production company.
I need to get this off my chest: Can we please (and this goes for everyone) stop making Holocaust, Hitler, and Nazi references? I know the left does it more, but the right does as well. Just stop it. Stop stop stop stop!
Carano did not lie in her post, though. I also don’t see where she denigrated “people based on their cultural and religious identities.”

As I said, the mob went after Carano in the past. They scolded her when she mocked mask-wearing and suggested voter fraud happened in the presidential election. They also criticized her when she put her pronouns as “beep/bop/boop.”
Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty, shall we?
First off, notice how the statement came from Lucasfilm? It did not come from Disney, which owns the production company.
But Disney owns Lucasfilm. Lucasfilm’s statement allows the left to muddy the waters and keep the attention off of Disney.
This was smart because Disney has a ton of skeletons in its closet. Consistency. Is that too much to ask?
Where do we begin?
How about the live-action Mulan movie? Disney filmed the movie in China’s Xinjiang province, which holds numerous concentration camps holding mostly Muslim Uighurs. That’s on top of the many human rights violations China has done and continues to do daily.
Then Disney had the nerve to thank “the public security bureau in the city of Turpan,” and, get this, the “publicity department of CPC Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomy Region Committee.”
Mulan specifically thank the publicity department of CPC Xinjiang uyghur autonomous region committee in the credits.
You know, the place where the cultural genocide is happening.
They filmed extensively in Xinjiang, which the subtitles call “Northwest China”#BoycottMulan pic.twitter.com/mba3oMYDvV

Disney even defended the choice to film near the camps.
Disney's corporate policy does not appear to care about the human rights issues affecting the #Uighurs. It seems human rights come second to the corporate policy of not upsetting China. (2/2) pic.twitter.com/3wXVQLuVOf

Oh, remember the protests in Hong Kong? Mulan star Liu Yifei supported the crackdown on those citizens by the Hong Kong police.
In July 2018, Disney fired Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn over old offensive tweets. Everyone rallied around Gunn, mainly because Mike Cernovich dug up the tweets.
Then Disney rehired Gunn in March 2019 to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
Next up is Chris Pratt, the beloved star of Guardians of the Galaxy. The left has also long had its eye on him. He belongs to the Hillsong Church, “whose founder has made anti-LGBT statements.” Pratt is Christian and does not hide it.
But the left also hates “that Pratt follows several conservative commentators, politicians and organizations on social media.”
But Pratt has never once talked about his political views. Not once.

I definitely agree with this sentiment.
Why should people ignore applicable historical analogies which are well known, if they are applied accurately? The NAZIs were a radical, socialist totalitarian movement, which the citizenry of an entire nation surrendered control of its life to and which ended up plunging half the world into a massive war.The rise of NAZIism, in Germany in the 11930s, was a singular cautionary tail. Of course, the same thing could be said for Russia and China, under the International Communist Party. But, they were allies of the Western powers, during WWII, so they have largely gotten a pass from historical media.
It’s GODWIN’s LAW
“as an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1”.
Yes. And therefore? Why is this a reason not to use the analogy?
When discussing authoritarian regimes reference to Mao, Stalin, or Hitler are likely. Sure you could reference the Khmer Rouge but folk are likely to blink and ask who?
As long as it’s applied accurately … Very rare IMO. Plus it tends to end up being Godwin’s law as another comment or points out
Godwin’s law is an observation, not a judgment. It doesn’t reflect on the quality of an argument.
I used to agree with this sentiment, until it became a mainstream opinion of the political party currently in power that “adult fun camps”, “deprogramming Trump voters”, re-education, and f*cking “gulags” were totes cool now. And that doesn’t count federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies being weaponized by political opponents.
At some point, adults realize that reality has changed and we’re in a very ugly place right now. Everyone wonders how the Good German came about, yet the evidence is right in front of our eyes – on this very thread.
However, Carano happens to be correct. When we look at the similarities between the rise of the Third Reich and modern-day America, there are some startling correlations. Right down to a “Jew” analog – the conservative.
To give but a single example:
“Don’t buy Jewish” said posters in Germany’s 1930s.
“Don’t hire conservatives” says today’s Left.
Here’s my list of why Nazis and Leftists are peas in a pod.
No tolerance for dissent, either internal or external (within or without the party).
Both believe in the nationalization of industry (e.g., healthcare and energy) for the benefit of “the people.”
Both use “the big lie” (e.g. “Hands up, don’t shoot” and “institutional racism”).
Both indoctrinate and use children and youth for political effect and advantage (Hitler Youth, Greta Thunberg, American universities).
Both have street brawlers (SA/Antifa) to protect Nazi/leftist meetings and disrupt opposition meetings and to harass members of the opposition.
Both support the creation of a police state.
Both obsessed with race and identity politics.
Nazis demanded the German people “Awaken.” SJWs refer to themselves as “woke.”
Both position themselves as “victims,” and identify (and direct their hatred towards) a particular group (Jews/conservatives and white people) as their oppressors.
Both ideologies preach the seizure of wealth from their oppressors (Jews/white people) and its distribution to the oppressed (“good” Germans/minorities and other marginalized people).
Both wage economic and intellectual warfare against opponents. (Nazis organized boycotts of Jewish-owned businesses and, prewar, orchestrated demonstrations against retailers who sold American goods. Universities, businesses, and professional organizations were purged of anyone who had a whiff of anti-Nazi sentiment, Jews, Catholics, and other “undesirables.” Today’s analogs to these actions, such as “cancel culture,” have been well-documented by Legal Insurrection).
Both dream of a perfected society. (While the only rational goal would be to establish a society that can be made more nearly perfect. There is a difference in that the people striving for the latter know that perfection is unobtainable – improvement will not lead to perfection.)
Very accurate. However, the NAZIs were totalitarian socialists just like the the International Communists. They were competitors. The only reason why we view Nazis/Fascists as being “conservative” and socialist/communists being liberal is because of the direct competition between the two groups. Communists advocated for total government ownership of everything, while the Nazis/Fascists advocated for total government control of everything. A distinction without difference.
As Dennis Prager noted… Communists get a pass because they murdered their own people while Nazis murdered people outside of their nation. Since Russia and China exported communism one would think this would make a difference but all they did was “consult” as others murdered their own people.
Sorry mao and stalin never got free passes.
Excuse me?! On what planet did they not get free passes? On the American left, academia, and Hollywood one could rarely find any criticism of Stalin until 1956 when Krushchev denounced him and thus made it Party policy to do so. And Mao was a sacred and untouchable figure until the Gang of Four’s fall. Castro and Guevara are still lionized. I even remember a period when it was controversial to criticize Pol Pot!
Stalin never got a free pass?
Google Walter Duranty.
Well as always history is more nuanced than that but in principle Americans have always been pretty against communism indeed the Truman doctrine started in 1947 which was in effect the beginning of the Cold War.
Additionally their was a large section of the democratic socialist movement that was highly critical of Stalin etc. People like George Orwell were very critical of Stalin given that for all intensive purposes it was a totalitarian gov.
There was some interesting pre war opinions that support your assertion to an extent, the NYT report Duranty won a Pulitzer based on complete lies about Soviet collectivisation that was undertaken during the inter war period. I would argue thought that this work was largely undone by the end of WWII.
By the time the cold war started there was a deep mistrust of the Soviet Union and of communism in particular from Americans in general.
There are plenty of books on British and American relations with the Soviet union during and after WWII, been awhile since I’ve read much on it. My main focus of study back in the day was the Russian Revolution and The early Years of Putin.
I’m sure you can cite examples of Americans being friendly to the USSR but not to the extent you claim.
@ Henrybowman.
Duranty was inter war, and a lot of his works were quickly superceded by events. A number of communist uprisings post war triggered the Truman doctrine and ultimately the formation of NATO. The entire purpose of NATO was to act as a counterpoint to the USSR. Given how much political support NATO had at the time and its formation its hard to argue a pro soviet position was popular.
Mark, the majority of voters were anti-communist, just as they are today, but the majority of the elite opinion-makers — the academy, the news industry and Hollywood, and a large segment of the Democrat Party — were pro-communist or fellow travelers. You could not say a bad word about communism without being ridiculed as some sort of hick, much like now. Which is why “McCarthyism” became a thing to be condemned and criticized and ridiculed, much like “white supremacy” is today.
Orwell was anti-Stalin from the left. He condemned the USSR as a right-wing fascist regime, undermining socialism worldwide because Stalin didn’t want revolutions going on. As far as he was concerned Stalin and Hitler were allies (which they later became, but this was before that). Read Homage to Catalonia.
@milhouse
Well I forget all the detail but I seem to recall there being a blacklist in Hollywood at the time. I can’t remember for the life of me what the Democrats position was on communism.
Yes, there was a so-called “Hollywood Blacklist”. Most of the people on it were actual communists (like Dalton Trumbo), working directly for Moscow, and the rest were fellow-travelers. The blacklist was imposed by the studio bosses, not the people who actually set the tone in Hollywood and decided what got made and what didn’t (such as that selfsame Trumbo). The people on the blacklist got plenty of work, just not under their own names. And got to continue doing Moscow’s work. Trumbo’s job for Moscow was not his writing (which he continued to do under a pseudonym), but his role as a gatekeeper, preventing anti-communist movies from being made, and he continued to do that.
The Democrat Party was officially anti-communist, and some Democrats genuinely were anti-communist. But a powerful faction of the party was anti-anti-communist, and a small but influential minority (such as Henry Wallace) were friendly to communism, or actual communists. But the communist influence on the culture is what’s important. Take Howard Zinn, for example. The world would have been a far better place if someone had shot him in 1950. His influence is responsible for much of what’s wrong with today’s world.
Very true Mac45
The rivalry between the Nazis and the Soviets was like that between the Calabrian and Sicilian mafias. It wasn’t about principles, it was about competition. To anyone not involved in it there was nothing to pick and choose between them.
Pretty much, yes.
The Communists were one step to the Left though.
The essential difference between their interpretations of Marx was that Communist’s believed the State needed to take direct control of the means of production – nationalize all industries.
Hitler’s great innovation, of which he was immensely proud and gave many speeches on, was to realize that you didn’t have to starve all of Ukraine to get the survivors to accept collectivization of farms/businesses. You could, instead, centrally plan the economy and control everything that mattered in the economy by INDIRECT control. Empower the central government to control, by regulation, all of the industries while leaving them nominally independent and privately owned.
The comparison to today’s US, in healthcare, would be that “single payer” is the Communist solution while Obamacare is the Fascist solution. Free market is, of course, the Right’s preference.
Meanwhile, every lefty in the country goes about denouncing the Right as Fascist. Ignorant of the fact that, as both political ideology and economic models, today’s Right is diametrically opposed to everything that Fascists ever stood for.
Aarradin
Wont let me thumbs up. Yes you are in principle correct.
I hate the way many people automatically reach for the fascist label. Don’t get me wrong I’m critical of many aspects of the right but labelling someone a fascist unless they actually are fascists is deeply unhelpful.
Critical Race Theory is orders of magnitude worse than the rhetoric the NAZI’s used against Jews.
Its an entirely philosophical foundation to justify the extermination of Caucasians world-wide.
The NAZI’s used street-level scape-goating. Rank amateurs in comparison to today’s Left.
A wise comedian once noted, “Did you ever notice how the guy protesting ‘two wrongs don’t make a right!’ is always the guy who committed the first wrong?”
Nowadays they call it “whataboutism”, which is a false fallacy.
Wouldn’t that be a “true” fallacy? Just thinking of double negative. Being beset by double think these days.
Haha true the false part is superfluous, just needs to say fallacy.
No, it’s a false fallacy. It’s not really a fallacy, but “the guy who committed the first wrong” tries to convince everyone that it is one.
I’ll use the analogy if its fully applicable and those that don’t like it can lick my b*lls.
The analogy is apt: Germany was a great Judeo-Christian democracy in the 20th century.
How about you stop making absurd, cookie-cutter leftist propagandistic nonsense?
Wait just a minute!
There’s a Guardians of the Galaxy 3??? 🙂
One was awesome. Two was ho hum and I hope three isnt shit either.
Does that mean the first two WERE?
I am Groot…
I couldn’t agree with you more. I have always been baffled at the general opinion that the second movie is so much better than the first.
I had no idea either, and I really enjoyed the first two.
And, just a few minutes ago, I find out there was a Matrix 4? Who knew? The first was pretty good, the second epic, and the third didn’t suck too badly.
A leftwing fascist Twitter jury found her guilty of thought crimes and wrongthink. Leftwing fascist Disney performed the execution.
By this time next year her crimes may be prosecutable as ‘hate speech’. That’s the current regime’s goal.
I guess the real, unspoken problem Hollywood has with McCarthy is that he wouldn’t let them make their OWN blacklist.
Oh, they had their blacklist all right. Take Elia Kazan.
The Dhimmi-crats only care about Jews inasmuch as they can use them as a political prop, to attack others. Rational people understand that the contemporary Dhimmi-crat Party is the biggest and most enthusiastic supporter of Jew-hate and Israel-vilification, outside of the Muslim world. The Dhimmi-crats welcome Jew-hating politicians with open arms, and, celebrate them (e.g., Keith “Hakim” Ellison; Ilhan Omar; ugly Rshaida Tlaib; and, their newest member, preacher-hustler, Raphael Warnock); the Dhimmi-crats promote and legitimize Jew-hating demagogues (e.g., Al Sharpton; Louis Farrakhan); the Dhimmi-crats dutifully parrot and promote Muslim terrorist propaganda, vilifying Israeli Jews for possessing the temerity to defend themselves against ceaseless Arab Muslim belligerence, totalitarianism and genocidal aspirations; etc., etc.
The Dhimmi-crat Party and leadership (along with their lemming-lackey media prostitute-propagandists) failed to issue any condemnation of their goose-stepping members in “Anti-fa” and in “Black Lives Matter” for vandalizing and desecrating numerous synagogues across America during the year 2020, in a fine imitation of German National Socialists, during the 1930’s. This was a despicable act of moral cowardice, but, one that has become de rigeur, for contemporary Dhimmi-crats. Just as these idiots couldn’t bring themselves to censure vile ingrate-bigot, Ilhan Omar, for her disgusting, Jew-hating remarks, because of the immunity Omar is conferred by dint of her ethnicity, her skin pigmentation and her Muslim affiliation.
I can’t even count the number of times the Dhimmi-crats have failed to criticize, expel, or even mildly censure Dhimmi-crat politicians across the country, who have nonchalantly made a slew of Jew-hating comments. So, the Dhimmi-crats can go to hell and drop their pretense of giving a damn about American Jews or Israeli Jews, or, Jews worldwide.
That’s why I find the overwhelming Jewish support of the Democrats bizarre. Sure, it’s most likely a case of Jews supporting their own (the politics of the Frankfurt School, which was created by Jews) and not thinking beyond that, but it’s since morphed into a pro-Islam (and therefore anti-Jew) movement.
It’s got nothing to do with supporting their own, something that most of them refuse to do and even see as morally wrong, and it certainly has nothing to do with the Frankfurt School, which almost nobody outside academia has even heard of. It’s several things but mostly it’s an irrational conviction that Republicans and Fundamentalists are all antisemites. And as they say, you can’t reason someone out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into.
Liberal Jews are Liberals first, last and always.
Its like trying to compare “mainline” to “mainstream” Protestants.
Evangelical Christians are far more Christian than the Pope, while Lefty “christians” like you’d find claiming to be Episcopalians are simply Marxists that like having a nice building to hold weddings and funerals in.
Well, this pope anyway.
The rhetorical question “Is the pope catholic,” is not so rhetorical anymore.
And it has me seriously wondering about ursine bathroom habits.
Shut up and dribble
Yet for the last 4 years, no speech was out of bounds as long as it was attacking the president or his supporters.
Sue the crap out of Disney.
Better yet: we break them by boycott.
If you’re on the side of normalcy, you have to be quite the masochist to buy or wear anything to do with Disney or its subsidiaries.
Interestingly, I was in a store that had Nike long-sleeve shirts on sale for 10 bucks. Lots of them. (I sure wouldn’t wear that emblem. Apparently not many other shoppers would, either.)
“They won after she compared being a Republican today to Jews during the Holocaust.”
Point of order, she did not compare treatment of conservatives to Jews during the Holocaust. She compared it to the demonization that lead up to the Holocaust. A very important difference as the former is Godwin’s Law, and the latter is actual context and comparison. Contrast to Pedro Pascal’s tweet a couple years ago comparing ICE detention centers for illegal immigrants to concentration camps.
It’s all for naught in the end, though. This is just another shovelful of dirt deepening the divide between the Left and Right because the Left will not tolerate anything other than absolute submission. Fortunately the Right is finally starting to learn this lesson and will push back.
Ever since my first encounter with Critical Race Theory, I’ve been pointing out the same thing.
“Ever wonder what it must’ve been like to be a Jew in Germany during the 1920’s? Now you know!”.
Her comments are absolutely true. Historically accurate and spot on analogy to what’s going on in today’s culture.
^^^THIS. This is her real crime.
First posts I saw on this were claiming her comments were “anti-semitic”. I knew this wasn’t true simply by the fact that no one making that claim was quoting her comments at all. If they were actually wrong, in any way, they’d have been in the first graph. Instead, I had to go looking, because they weren’t included at all in any of the articles I saw from lefty sources.

Breaking from the Babylon Bee:
Gina Carano rehired by Disney after she comes out as identifying as an abusive male director!
https://babylonbee.com/news/gina-carano-rehired-by-disney-after-she-identifies-as-an-abusive-male-director
“We are so sorry to Ms. Carano for firing her — we did not realize she was actually a sexually abusive male director trapped in a woman’s body,” said a Disney spokesperson. “We applaud her for coming to terms with her true identity and choosing to live her brave new life as a studio executive who does problematic things to women all the time without any repercussions.”
There was nothing inaccurate in her statement.
What got the left hot was her applying the example to modern politics, and putting the left in the role of the Nazis.
The difference is: the Jews were less than 1% of the German population in 1933. Trump supporting conservatives in the US today make up anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 of the population.
There’s no doubt the left is trying to demonize the right, but I’m not sure they can reach the level of Nazi Germany, but they seem to be trying hard.
“There was nothing inaccurate in her statement.”
Disney has chosen to follow *resident Biden’s lead in believing truth over facts.
“resident Biden.” Love that.
Close, but the NAZI’s were the Left in Germany.
There were some three dozen political Parties while they rose to power. One was on the Right – they wanted to bring back the Kaisers. The Center was held by the Catholic Center Party, a stronghold in Bavaria, and ALL of the rest were openly Socialist, specifically openly Marxist, Parties.
The NAZI’s were the furthest Left of them all, save only the Communists.
1/4 of population?
Much closer to 50-60%
They are firing so many actors and directors, maybe they should all get together and make entertainment
“firing so many”
Maxist-Progressive inflicted hardship is adding people to the Trump team, unintended consequences.
Zimmerman was a Dem, not now. One at a time, whole families seeing Dems in a new light.
Vote with your pocketbooks, folks: it’s the only vote in the US that’s not fixed – yet. (Wait till they try and ban cash.)
Wait until they start subsidizing cable TV, the way the UK forces people to pay for the BBC. And puts those who refuse in prison.
I’m still hoping for that kickass new college manned by all the cancelled academics.
“Contrast to Pedro Pascal’s tweet a couple years ago comparing ICE detention centers for illegal immigrants to concentration camps.”
The left can say and do anything they want and they know it.
Look what America has given this person and like all the left he bites the hand that feeds him…
Apparently supporting women in strong roles is only acceptable if you have no mind of your own. Great lesson to send to women Disney!
And while leftists would fire back that women can have a mind of their own as long as they are telling the “truth”, their definition of truth is going along with whatever leftist lie is en vogue this day, week, month, or year.
In other words, you are accurate twice over in your retort.
She was good in that role but was dead woman walking for being conservative and out-spoken about it. It was a matter of time. Her tweet was accurate and her dismissal proved her point.
HER FIRING PROVED HER POINT!
Gina: Cancelled = Flakked (new term, here in similarly past, passive form; from the new verb, to flak) = Achieving a valid and accurate, anti-totalitarian, liberty-promoting attack.
Direct salute, praise: Great bomb run, Gina. You managed to get right over and perfectly attack The Target.
Publicly announced distinction: Gina is another one of today’s “aerial, military” heroes in the timeless, unrelenting fight against tyranny, for human freedom.
So I’m guessing Hollywood blacklists were only bad when they targeted Communists.
She is not wrong in her posts. Boop, bop, beep.
When does Disney get canceled, from 1938 untill about 2000 Disney was horribly racists.
The Mandalorian was good while it lasted. I’m sure it will “go woke” and suck so hard it will create a quantum singularity. These people screw up everything they touch.
When I see woke on TV, I promptly kill it. I am tired of propaganda embedded into everything.
Streaming services made sense when they had broad content. at around $10 a month. Then different content holders started trying to collect the same amount, something which does not make financial sense.
So rather than pay them more, I buy DVD collections. As I watch them I am digitizing and storing them to a large disk array, close to 100 terabytes. Eventually the whole collection will be digitized.
A post on my Twitter feed had a graphic of what Disney, and its various other businesses, own. The guy said, “Good luck not giving Disney your money.”
I looked at the chart, and the only thing that snagged me was Hulu, and I only rarely use that.
I responded: “The only thing they’ll get me is Hulu. I’m done with Marvel movies, and Marvel in general. Same for Pixar. Star Wars? I have the original trilogy.”
If there is a Disney movie I want to watch, I will buy it used.
I stopped watching the Star Wars movie franchise when it got to the point of having droids lecturing humans about wokeness. Haven’t watched a one since, including The Mandalorian.
It is the sign of a bad education when pulling Shoa equations.
Remember that there are more Nazis today in the USA and Germany than in 1939.
“ It is the sign of a bad education when pulling Shoa equations.”
Not if they are correct, as this absolutely goddamn is. Demonization, dehumanization, and the justification for persecution and the like are a tried and true ingredient for oppression, and especially for mass enslavement and murder. There’s a reason a bunch of Rwandan Hutu Radio Jockeys got hauled before an international tribunal for genocide in spite of probably never having gotten their hands dirty with blood personally.
“Remember that there are more Nazis today in the USA and Germany than in 1939.”
I’d like to see some goddamn evidence for that, because I simply do not believe it at all.
At most you MIGHT be able to make some narrow claim between alleged “Nazis” in the US today and membership roles in the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, but even then it’s doubtful as hell that you can find Neo-Nazi or even them plus generic White Supremacist numbers that are the size of Idaho’s population.
And even if you could your claim would Still be wrong, because what a lot of people forget is that- paradoxically- Hitler had some misgivings with the “party” identity of the NSDAP. Because you see it was either decadent capitalist democracies, corrupt banana republic oligarchies, or Leninist cults that had “parties.” He- like most Fascists- preferred to refer to his political force as a lMovement”, a “National Socialist Movement.” The party was merely meant to be the organizing vehicle for said movement, pending the total merger between the party, movement, state, and German society that was just around the corner.
And there were a LOT of members of the National Socialist Movement who were not card carrying members of the party, and more than a few party members who were never true believers in the movement. So membership rolls are at best a useful but flawed indicator.
And if you want to tell me that Guderian was not a National Socialist or at least part of the movement because he never formally joined the Party, I will mock you heartily.
I very much doubt that. There are hardly any nazis in the USA today. Active ones, no more than 200; armchair, maybe as many as 5,000; fellow-travelers, maybe another 15,000. I’m guessing, but I bet I’m not far off. In Germany I’ll guess the numbers are double that, despite the smaller population. In 1939 the majority of Germans supported the Nazis.
Is DaniBenGolani a Nazi?
“In 1939 the majority of Germans supported the Nazis.”
They were always a minority party. By 1939 it would have been hard to tell what the actual support for the party was as the country was dominated by an oppressive and ruthless regime. Very possible they had majority approval after the successful Anschluss and invasion and occupation of Poland. I might even say likely.
However, I would like to point out that the NAZI party gained power as a minority party, perhaps one with a plurality, but their actual support into the war is difficult to gauge.
I knew a man who joined the SS because an SS sergeant walked into his classroom one autumn day in 1943, surveyed the boys sitting there, and pointed at him. You could either go along and join the SS or die, and perhaps, also get your family sent to a concentration camp for your resistance.
The point is that here, in the US, the majority does not have to be fascist to take control. That fascist minority simply needs to be brutal and underhanded enough to cow the majority into submission.
“I need to get this off my chest: Can we please (and this goes for everyone) stop making Holocaust, Hitler, and Nazi references? I know the left does it more, but the right does as well. Just stop it. Stop stop stop stop!”
Same with racism etc., which is a color judgment or diversity [dogma].
Same with homophobia, which is actually a manifestation of genderphobia or fear and hate of physical and mental (e.g. sexual orientation) sex-correlated attributes, which prompted appropriation of culture (e.g. gay, lesbos) and biological social structures (e.g. pride parade – lions, lionesses, and cubs).
Same with Pro-Choice, which is a quasi-religion (e.g. “ethics”) that denies human rights and reconciliation for social progress: keep women appointed, available, and taxable, and other purposes (e.g. cannibalized child, medical progress) as women and men cannot be responsible for their actions.
Social justice anywhere is injustice everywhere.
Why? Seriously, can someone please explain why it is not acceptable to compare anything the Germans did to anything else that anyone else has ever done?
Yes, the Holocaust, their ultimate crime, was unique in some significant ways. Nobody else has ever done quite the same thing, on the same scale. But even that is unique only accidentally, not essentially. There’s nothing to guarantee that it won’t happen again. Indeed, isn’t that the whole point of the slogan “Never Again”? It’s not a fact of nature, it’s a resolve. It doesn’t mean this can’t happen again, it means that we can’t let it happen again, which necessarily means that unless we act to prevent it it will happen again. And to prevent that we must figure out what led to it, and notice and point out when things happen that resemble those precursors.
More importantly, that is not the only thing they did. It’s the ultimate crime, but it doesn’t erase all the lesser crimes they committed on the way there. (Nor was everything they did a crime; they did many things that were not wrong too. Nobody can be a full-time villain. So it’s a fallacy to say that something is wrong simply because the Germans did it.) And those lesser crimes are not unique at all. People do them all the time. So why not point this out when it happens?
There’s also the fact that some things are not just like the Holocaust but part of it. For instance the Arab war on Israel is literally a continuation of the Germans’ war on the Jews. They were the Germans’ allies in that war, and when the Germans were forced to give it up they continued it on their own.
It’s true that their conscious goal is not to physically annihilate the Jews but only to expel most of them from Israel and keep a small minority as a subject race, but the Germans didn’t start out with physical annihilation as their goal either; they only settled on that when they suddenly found themselves with several million Jews in their hands, and nowhere to ship them. If the Arabs were to succeed in conquering Israel they’d have the same problem, and would likely resort to the same solution. (I wouldn’t bet on the USA, Europe, or anyone else taking us all in; they didn’t want us in 1938, and not much has changed since. That’s why Israel has the Return Act.) So making such references in that conflict is not even comparing two similar things, it’s the same thing. It’s like comparing German actions in 1940 to those in 1945.
Besides all that, argumentum ad Hitlerum is a valid rhetorical device, being merely an extension of the long-standing device of reductio ad absurdum. By showing that a proposition, if taken to its logical extreme, would end up uncomfortably reminiscent of the Third Reich, one discredits it even in a lesser application, unless the person proposing it offers some limiting principle.
When Whitaker Chambers famously wrote of Ayn Rand’s implacable conviction that she was right and hers was the only possible way, that: ‘From almost any page of Atlas Shrugged, a voice can be heard, from painful necessity, commanding: “To a gas chamber — go!”’, many disagreed with him, but I don’t think anyone claimed that regardless of whether his point was correct or incorrect it was wrong to invoke that image. Certainly nobody accused him of antisemitism for it! But think, what would be the reaction today? Today, not only would his point be completely ignored in the flood of the very same self-righteous moral outrage, but he would be accused of antisemitism (especially since Rand was a Jew and he was not, which was entirely irrelevant and which he may not even have known).
What part of “never forget” people forget? By Orwell, the three great changes of the 20th Century were the fall of imperialism and the two major threats to mankind in fascism and communism. Millions murdered for national and international socialism. It wasn’t only about the Jews and encompassed so many including the Slavs. Once one group hated to extinction (Jews) would be replaced with another group to hate. Being successful put the Jewish population at top of list. It is beyond scary that people who should know better are leading the charge.
“Yes, the Holocaust, their ultimate crime, was unique in some significant ways. Nobody else has ever done quite the same thing, on the same scale.”
And even so, that’s no reason to censor discussion of whether a contemporary evil may be enroute to meeting or breaking that record.
The caliphs in India competed with each other to see how many lakhs (“a hundred thousand”) of Hindus they could execute. By the sword. That takes true dedication to your craft. Muslims depopulated vast areas in their wars of conquest. They took over a million slaves from Europe alone, not to mention the Europeans they slaughtered and raped doing it. The Nazis aren’t particularly notable for the scale of their death dealing, even in the 20th Century.
Oh, large-scale slaughter is nothing new. At least in terms of percentages of populations rather than raw numbers, the ancients had the nazis beat. Or more recently, think Tamberlane, or the Crusaders.
What made the Holocaust unique, at least so far, is that it was industrialized; it was organized on rational, scientific lines, just like any industry. It was planned for efficiency. Time and motion studies and all the rest of it. Stuffing Jews into ovens wasn’t bloodthirsty slaughter, done in a rage; it was a job. You showed up in the morning, worked your shift, and then went home to the wife and kids, just as if you’d spent your day making widgets or balancing books.
One could also compare it to the Aztecs, but that brings in a whole nother dimension. Their victims were true believers and cooperated in their own killing, which in a way makes it closer to suicide than murder.
“…it was organized on rational, scientific lines,”
Trust the science!
Knee-jerk, gratuitous analogies to Nazi Germany have been too common for a few years. But that doesn’t necessarily mean all of them are misplaced. I’ve often rolled my eyes at such analogies, but I’ve done so less and less in the last several months as a seeming critical mass of delusion appears to have been reached.
When I tried to attend a speech by Ben Shapiro a few years ago, the hundreds of wild-eyed students who surrounded us and prevented us from entering the room, and who made menacing gestures, were analogous to me to the very early stages of the indoctrination which took place in the 1930s.
I talked to one of those students … one of the few who was not overtly threatening, and I was in disbelief at his characterizations of Shapiro. When I asked what evidence he had that Shapiro was a “virulent racist and white supremacist,” as this student claimed, he said, “He’s an Orthodox Jew.”
The imputation of these particular evils could not have been more ironically disturbing.
“Don’t know much about history … ” as the song goes.
The Dems and their supporters started calling Republicans Nazis around 1948. If not sooner.
They’ve been doubling down every election cycle since then. As they moved further and further to the Left.
Folk are already starting to close their Disney Plus accounts. If Disney wants to cancel Carano for rational posts then it’s only logical to cancel Disney. Clearly Disney doesn’t want the Right’s money – it might have Conservative cooties!
As opposed to kinder, gentler Chinese Death Kooties.
The kooties that will benignly shush you while stabbing the blade through your heart.
Democrats call Republicans and Trump supporters Nazis because they themselves intend to act like Nazis. If you listen to them, they say it out loud: Trump supporters should be physically abused and put in concentration camps. They should be restricted from society and work.
Yeah, the Democrats sound a whole lot like Nazis to me, and I take it seriously. They are telegraphing their punches the same way. It would be stupid to fail to recognize that the punches are going to fall.
“Yeah, the Democrats sound a whole lot like Nazis to me, and I take it seriously.”
Absolutely. And one train of thought on the right is that the traditional “Democrat overreach” will crash and burn as it always does, before too much damage can be done.
But in an age where shady cabals successfully rig national elections to protect democracy from itself, and experienced, resource-heavy foreign powers bolster American communism via highly-placed puppets, I’m not sure I’m willing to bet my life on that this time.
The only culture she denigrated was fascism and the left wing fascists don’t like being called out.
