ANTIFA Forces Portland Book Store to Stop Selling Andy Ngo’s Book About ANTIFA

ANTIFA Forces Portland Book Store to Stop Selling Andy Ngo’s Book About ANTIFA

A protester likened the book to Mein Kampf. Uh, okay.

ANTIFA, which claims to be “anti-fascist” (hence the name), once again showed it is fascist.

Members of the group protested Powell’s Books in Portland, OR, because it put Andy Ngo’s book about them on its shelves.

Andy Ngo wrote Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy after documenting the group’s rioting and destruction in cities.

One protester compared his book to Mein Kampf.

ANTIFA supposedly hates fascism but throws a hissy fit when a bookstore sells a book critical of its activities.

They hate fascism so much they terrorize and protest outside the store, forcing employees to escape out the back and close early.

Powell’s Books said it would not sell the book in the store, but kept it on its online catalog.

Powell’s Books is all for free speech as long as it keeps the book online.

If you wish to buy the book I suggest you buy it from the publisher directly. Hachette publishes it. Do not buy off of Amazon.

Disappointing, but very understandable in the context of Portland geography. My perception of Powell’s as an occasional customer is that is a classic left wing corporation, staffed with ex-hippies and hipsters, but a supporter of the free press. Unfortunately, they sit at the epicenter of Antifa turf. They can be closed down or burnt out at will. The Portland Police having surrendered to Antifa long ago, by direction of their feckless Mayor.

“A protester likened the book to Mein Kampf”

Which is a best seller in Muslim countries. The left won’t make this obvious connection because, they reason, Muslims are their friends.

Maybe. At the moment.

Protesters? I never realized that German General Rommel was a leader of “protesters.” I mistakenly thought he led an army that was at war.

We use their words. We fail to accept that they fully understand what they are doing. We fail to see that this is a war and not ignorance (except on our part) or any kind of misunderstanding. They are boiling the frog and the frog thinks it is getting warm in here. The police officers follow orders because they do not want to lose their jobs which they will lose anyway after the enemy gains total control.

Well, don’t be concerned. I am sure the unambiguous threats of violence by Antifa will be sternly denounced by the Franz von Papen Republicans like Mitt Romneycare, Liz Cheney, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and Kevin McCarthy.

Yep ….. (checks watch) ….. any minute now …..

Yeah, it’s like Mein Kampf.

WHICH THE BOOKSTORE IN QUESTION ACTUALLY SELLS.

Antifa average IQ must be in the basement. For one thing, Mein Kampf is a biography…not even close to the same category of non-fiction.

Guess we are headed for a Mobocracy just as Roberts dreamed we would.

It looks like they caved to about three people.

That’s how cancel culture works. It doesn’t even have to be multiple people, even one can get someone/something cancelled. The complaint isn’t the reason, it’s the need to bend the knee to the woke crowds hoping they won’t come burn down their business and terrorize their families at their homes. This is Portland, remember. To be honest, I am shocked they dared carry Andy’s book in the first place.

I notice they say they won’t “stock it on the shelves”. Is there a secret signal you can give and they pull it out of a secret drawer behind the counter? Hmmmm

Hee! I wonder! The fact they had it at all does suggest they may be a double-secret member of our secret vast rightwing conspiracy.

(Do I really need a /sarc tag here? Probably, the left has become increasingly hysterical and paranoid and probably would take that joke as “evidence” of who knows what.)

        pst314 in reply to Chewbacca. | January 13, 2021 at 1:04 pm

They didn’t pull The Satanic Verses from the shelves, on the other hand, and that was in the face of credible death/bomb threats.

To be fair – I don’t think it would take a lot of pressure to make to make a bookstore in Portland cave. There is such a thing as pushing against an open door.

And you can bet that Ngo’s book won’t be front and center at that bookstore’s next “Banned Book Week”. Those tend to be insufferably self-congratulatory events, but in reality Speaking Truth to Power (TM) never involves speaking any actual truth that would offend the Wokeatapo.

stevewhitemd in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | January 12, 2021 at 6:53 pm

To add on to your comment, Fuzzy, cancel culture works with but a few people making the complaints for an important reason — the target (in this case, the bookstore) WANTS to go along with the object of the protest. The book store was willing to cancel Mr. Ngo’s book; they wanted to do it and they just needed an excuse.

Likewise, when a university terminates or disciplines a faculty person who is being attacked, it’s because, deep down, they want to do so. They need a reason and the very small, purple-haired goofs who are anonymously complaining give them the opportunity.

In a stronger society in which people and institutions had moral fiber and starch, this would not work. But we’re Weimar, so good people come to harm.

They could have just not carried it in the first place, though. No bookstore is obligated by law or any other force that I’m aware of to carry specific inventory items. They could have just declined to carry it if they didn’t want to. If we’re going all five-dimensional chess here, I’d counter that they carried it just so it would become a controversy and thus boost sales of the book. 😛 See how that works?

Cancel culture also works when the target thinks that the complainers represent a large number of hostiles ready to do harm.

Lame.

Should have the book displayed in the window, and redisplayed every time the broken window gets replaced.

stevewhitemd in reply to alohahola. | January 12, 2021 at 6:57 pm

That works if you or your insurer have the funds to keep replacing broken windows. Or if the local coppe shoppe is willing to arrest the window-breakers. And if the prosecutors and judges are willing to squash the perps.

    But this is Portland…

JusticeDelivered in reply to stevewhitemd. | January 12, 2021 at 10:40 pm

And being Portland, that means there needs to be a public spirited squad which rushes in , breaks all their legs, and then fades away. It is insane that the public is not being protected, in that situation, it seems there are not many options.

Subotai Bahadur | January 12, 2021 at 6:26 pm

Just to be accurate, this is where TWANLOC applies. Portland really is not part of America in any meaningful way. And if they have their way, after Jan. 20, we will not be either.

Subotai Bahadur

Just bought it. I read on the Kindle so I did have to go through the Amazon store. It’s released on 2/2. Might be a good idea if lots of folks bought it, just to send the book stores a mention.

It is on my To Read list, although I will get it in print form. I don’t trust Amazon to one day decide to cancel my “racist” library. Amazon can delete books from your Kindle library without your permission or knowledge.

Let the Wokestapo destroy books the old fashioned way – by burning them in a real fire (to honor their patron saint Joseph Goebbels).

(All these books I hear about at LI and want to read are going to break me financially. Well – I never wanted to retire anyway!)

JusticeDelivered in reply to stevewhitemd. | January 12, 2021 at 10:59 pm

Kindles can be cracked to kill Amazon’s sandbox. I am preparing to do that for all my family’s Kindles. Screw Amazon. Should I compile information, links about this?

I thought Powell’s was a Portland institution, and always went go buy something when I was sent to this city on business, as bookstores do need support.
Not any more. If it ‘burns down’, I’m not crying.

If I were Mr Ngo, I’d tell Powells that if that’s how they operate I will show up with a mob of my own and threaten to smash their windows if they don’t carry the book. That way the two threats cancel out and they can decide honestly.

This might be the most irrational thing you’ve ever posted, but I’m right behind you with the torches and pitchforks new bizarro world, crazy Milhouse!

Dathurtz in reply to healthguyfsu. | January 12, 2021 at 9:13 pm

In three years we will have King Milhouse after he gets all riled up and leads a revolution that carves out a chunk of our continent as his kingdom.

CountMontyC in reply to Milhouse. | January 12, 2021 at 11:12 pm

The problem with that is that the local prosecutor would actually file charges against you. Only certain protected groups can commit violence and get away with it.

    pst314 in reply to Milhouse. | January 13, 2021 at 1:18 pm

LOL. I assume you were indulging in some dark humor, rather than making a serious suggestion. (After all, the Portland Police would immediately arrest Mr. Ngo and charge him with multiple felonies, whereas they would never do anything to the Antifa thugs.)

Grant immunity and I would be pleased to rid those streets of the vermin, without breaking a single window.

I’m guessing the guy hasn’t read either book.

Ngo has done yeoman’s work on this and at great personal risk. Something REAL journalists should do rather than sit safely at CNN and play Biden’s “Antifa is an Idea” video. Fortunately he was at the Capitol as I understand it to cover both the Trump and Antifa gatherings in D.C. I guess Antifa went home for smores and hot cocoa after their meeting…. leaving their gas masks, helmets and shields carelessly around for Trumpsers to steal.

It looks like @Powells bookstore in downtown Portland has evacuated its customers after #antifa showed up to demand that my book, Unmasked, be banned. pic.twitter.com/ZIXcujVHCL

Terrorism. Not that it matters, they just went after their pet mayor while he was drinking wine at some restaurant.
Michigan’s cabal of democrats are going to charge the previous repub mayor over the flint water debacle.
No mention of the crooked flint mayor who made the relief money disappear.

    JusticeDelivered in reply to 4fun. | January 12, 2021 at 11:09 pm

I grew up in Flint. As the Ghetto spread, and those who cool, left, Flint fell on hard times. Their new income stream was to first shakedown county residents, eventually they started shaking down the whole state.

Flint has a decrepit water system because they squandered water fund fees on everything but the water system. Their water problems were totally self inflicted.

And the whole they were poisoned thing was another scam.

My generation easily receive ten times more lead, yet we grew up with few problems and have lived long productive lives. Dull parents in Flint produce dull children, lead has nothing to do with it.

The poisoning thing was a scam? What do you mean? I have vague recollections of lead in the water due to the aging pipework

        pst314 in reply to mark311. | January 13, 2021 at 1:20 pm

I think JD means “we were poisoned!” when the reality was they poisoned themselves by failing to maintain/update their water system.

Many of the politicians who played possum on the floor of Congress are the same ones who either never spoke up when businesses were burned/looted, or outright encouraged the riots. They scoffed, even smirked when innocent business owners tried to protect their property, their livelihoods. They were silent as residents all across our country were subjected to leftist violence and destruction. They called people truly engaged in self defense “terrorists.” Without getting into what really happened at the Capitol, these politicians are beneath contempt. I don’t have the words to describe what utter trash I believe they are.

“Yeah, it’s like Mein Kampf.
WHICH THE BOOKSTORE IN QUESTION ACTUALLY SELLS.”

The last time I looked, it seemed that just about every public library had a copy of Mein Kampf. And not “by request only,” but in the stacks with all the other books.

Which is as it should be, for how else could you (or anyone) see what’s actually in it (and not have to take someone’s word for what’s in it)?

Somehow the notion that Americans could handle exposure to even the nastiest materials without shouting, “that’s too dangerous!” always seemed basic American apple pie.

But, how many public libraries do you suppose will stock Andy Ngo’s book? I would not be surprised if the answer is: zero. Nor will it ever appear on one of those trendy ALA Banned Books posters.

Which is a shame if you want to read it but can’t afford a copy. On the other hand, Andy Ngo and his publisher will surely be happier (and richer) if you buy yourself your own copy.

Just don’t try to donate it to your local public library. Because, really, they won’t want it and will not put it in the library’s collection.

Pennsylvania Ave in Washington DC should be renamed in honor of Andy.

Call it Ngo Way.

(I’m only half kidding.)
