President of Portland State U. Says His Highest Priority is ‘Commitment to Racial Justice’
“My highest priority is sustaining and amplifying our commitment to racial justice.”
Portland State University President Stephen Percy recently laid out his priorities, and they are not academic.
From the Portland State website:
The past year, like you, my efforts were consumed with responding to the global pandemic. I am indebted to the PSU community for its compassionate and comprehensive response. Yet we must now begin to imagine a post-pandemic PSU. As we have for 75 years, we will emerge from this event a different, but stronger institution. Defining our next quarter century is the work of all of us, but as PSU’s President, I will be guided by three strategic directions.
My highest priority is sustaining and amplifying our commitment to racial justice. PSU is Oregon’s most diverse university and our actions must honor and harness the power of that diversity. It is imperative that we collectively engage in conversations that support transformation and act to deliver on our desired future, recognizing that the work will be different based on our positionalities and identities. The work is already underway, including October’s Time to Act summit, a cluster hire in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences School of Gender, Race and Nations, and other important initiatives. I challenge each of you to take action to imagine and create a more just and equitable PSU.

His statement is highly informative. He will prioritize politics and virtue-signaling over any concerns about the quality of education and research at the school.
He will hire faculty and administrators based on their race and sex, with little if any concern about their abilities in teaching and research. He will allow vocal Marxist groups to control the school’s policies and enforce Groupthink narrative students are supposed to adhere to.
I think we can safely rank PSU together with Oberlin, Vassar, Evergreen State, and Berkeley as being schools that value indoctrination over learning.
As a parent of kids in college right now, I’d pull my kids from that school at the first available opportunity. A university that makes racial justice more important than education is an enormous waste of time and money.
I respect Prof. Boghossian massively for his coauthored paper showing how total nonsense can get published in the lefty social sciences.
Now he may regret having kept his job, as the university is apparently determined to become maximally woke as revenge.
Oh, HE was the guy that published the nonsense articles. I thought that was the funniest thing I’d read that month and it still ranks way up there even today.
The last I’d read, there was a backlash from the colleges that employed the people that did this; I hope they ended up okay from that.
Call me old fashioned, but should a university president’s highest job priority be to education?
