Chicago Teachers Union Leader Demands Schools Stay Shut, While Vacationing in Caribbean

Sarah Chambers is on the union’s executive board and is an area vice president.

https://wgntv.com/news/wgn-investigates/ctu-board-member-facing-criticism-for-vacationing-in-caribbean-while-pushing-remote-learning/

I’ve followed the insanity from the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU). I’ve said it has nothing to do with safety and they do not give a damn about students. It’s all about power, virtue signaling, and making a fuss about something to strike and cause headaches.

CTU member Sarah Chambers provided more proof.

Chambers sits on the CTU’s executive board. She serves as an area vice president.

Chambers is also one of the most vocal against in-person learning. She even “tweeted to rally special education teachers not to return to work Monday because it’s unsafe.” You know, despite the fact that special needs children need in-person learning more than anyone. But that does not matter.

You’d think Chambers is one person who takes lockdowns seriously, stayed home for Christmas and New Years’.

NOPE.

WGN reported that Chambers posted a picture of herself on Instagram in Puerto Rico a few hours before her Thursday tweet to special education teachers.

A Chicago Teachers Union leader is facing criticism for vacationing in the Caribbean while at the same time claiming it’s unsafe for teachers to return to the classroom.

Sarah Chambers is on the union’s executive board and is an area vice president.

As recently as Thursday, she tweeted to rally special education teachers not to return to work Monday because it’s unsafe.

Just a few hours earlier, Chambers posted a picture on Instagram that appears to show her pool side in Puerto Rico and talking about going to Old San Juan for seafood.

The post also mentions she previously had COVID, got a negative test result and consulted her doctor before traveling.

Both Chambers and the Chicago Teachers Union have not responded to WGN’s request for comment. Since we have reached out, Chambers has deleted her Instagram account.

The CTU is threatening the possibility of a strike if the district pushes ahead with plans to reopen school buildings.

I cannot with these disgusting and selfish jerks. But apparently, she is not one of those jerks because she had a negative COVID-19 test and consulted her doctor before she traveled.

Yeah, no.

Lady, the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) have met the CTU demands. Schools all over the country have returned to in-person school.

I’m not saying all of them are lazy and selfish. I wish teachers would speak out because I doubt the majority of them approve of this crap and want to get back to work at the schools.

But Chambers’ picture strengthens the argument that those in charge at the CTU do not care about anything but causing trouble and problems. They do not care about the kids or even the teachers.

The CTU has threatened to strike even though CPS promised health screenings, mandatory face masks, putting distance between desks, and new HEPA air purifiers in classrooms. Schools would also have access to COVID-19 tests.

Study after study has shown that transmission does not spread like wildfire in elementary schools. Study after study has shown that kids are losing a year of education, which will impact them after high school.

“Sarah4Justice.” Says it all.

Again, what age should this be called, that such people should have any involvement in teaching children?

Back story will come out tomorrow. Sarah’s mom lives in PR and was like sick or something and the dutiful daughter rushed to her side to nurse her back to health. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Public sector employees should not be unionized. Unions only recourse to getting its way is a STRIKE. This is BS.!Teachers Unions should just be let out to pasture and hire new people. Look no further than the Washington swamp.
Give them a reasonable health care plan and a living wage typical to parochial school teachers and move on. This POS can stay on the beach until she starves.

Follow Reagan’s example — fire all teachers who fail to report to work at their schools.

    Dathurtz in reply to dberg166. | January 1, 2021 at 4:32 pm

Average teacher pay in my state is less than 30k with crap healthcare and no retirement. What you are asking is to reduce the teacher pool down to where only women married to wealthy men can afford to be a teacher.

It would be better to get rid of the insanity that drives good teachers away. Eliminate the federal DoE and the nonsense that goes with it. Fix “school accountability” so it actually makes sense. Eliminate or fix standardized testing.

Just like a lot of municipalities are running the good cops out, so are many areas doing the same to teachers. What you want will just speed up the process.

No one else questioning her qualifications to sit on the Exec Board of a Teacher’s Union? I’m thinking she’s in her 20’s – At the most she’s had only 5 or 6 years in a classroom?

SeekingRationalThought | January 1, 2021 at 2:20 pm

If you support the Democrat Party and Joe Biden, you are supporting child abuse by the teachers unions. This woman is a horrible human being of no value to the rest of society. Why would anyone allow this person to teach children? I wouldn’t let her train my dog. Not that she could. The dog is smarter than she is. Trash like this woman are allowed to teach because they are protected by the teachers unions. The word “evil” shouldn’t be used often or lightly. It’s too easy and looks like an overreaction. However, teachers unions are evil. What else can you call a group of people who claim to care about children but always choose to ruin young lives rather than doing their jobs. No sacrifice by children is too much for the good of the teachers unions. As a friend of mine who is active in a teachers union once said, the only people that think the teachers unions care about the children are the elementary school teachers. Presumably grades 1-3 as even the students inn grades 4 and up can see that teachers unions destroy young lives.

Reason #26,469 why I hate teacher’s unions. Nothing but Democrat money laundering institutions protecting leftist “teachers.”

Talk about non-essential jobs that are just begging to be defunded. How many billions of dollars could be re-directed in lieu of taxing the rest of us to death? I have absolutely no sympathy for teachers anymore.

Don’t put us all in one basket. Lots of us do our job.

hopeful in reply to Dathurtz. | January 1, 2021 at 6:37 pm

Sorry, Dat. Too many don’t. I had good teachers growing up, owe them a debt still. But that was then.

Saw a lot of poor teaching in the 70’s and 80’s. Saw it over and over– arrogance, putting Parents down, no control of class, too lazy to teach anything, stoooopid and lazy or plain helpless. I’m sure there were good schools, but no choice, you see.

And yes, paid very well, thank you. Specials needs teachers in St Louis getting over $50K per year in 1990– 30 years ago when my husband was making $45K as a full professor in a state university. A 1990 dollar worth at least 50% more now.

My son did have two notably good teachers. Indebted to them still, after many years. But lots of dreck, way more than half hopeless and helpless. AND a strike in the City nearly every fall. Every ed major I encountered myself teaching at a U expressed the motive “have something to fall back on in case”– that tells the whole story, doesn’t it?

Sorry you’re the exception, and I know there are good teachers and schools, but most deserve contempt, not respect.

hopeful in reply to Dathurtz. | January 1, 2021 at 6:40 pm

Forgot to add: incessant whining about their blankety blank PAY. IMO, like post office, paid way above worth thanks to the unions. That’s the purpose of unions, after all– get wages above the market. You can get market wages for yourself without a union.

Dathurtz in reply to hopeful. | January 1, 2021 at 7:21 pm

I have met more good that bad teachers. But, I live and work in a rural area that is extremely conservative. My principal has hired people with actual degrees instead of education degrees, which is nice.

In some areas, teachers really are underpaid. It isn’t uncommon for teachers in some areas of my state to make around $12 an hour for our contract hours. I sure as hell wouldn’t do my job for that.

It is really odd being on the other side of parent issues. I know I deal with so many atrocious parents that it can be really hard to shift gears and work with a good one.

I agree crappy teachers need to get the boot faster. In my area it usually takes 2 years (unless they just do something egregious). What I wish our society knew is that all of the stuff being thrown at us won’t get rid of any crappy teachers. It only gets rid of the ones good enough to have other options.

hopeful in reply to Dathurtz. | January 1, 2021 at 8:15 pm

Thank you for your generous reply, Dat. I really meant what I said about the difference the good teachers made. Both I and my son owe a great deal to the good teachers. Didn’t even know how much contempt I had for the bad ones.

My wife taught FACS, aka Home Ec ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_economics ). It’s shocking how unskilled high school kids are nowadays. Can’t load a dishwasher, work an oven, use a tape measure, thread a needle or sew, balance a checkbook, never washed clothes or dishes, opened a bank account, shopped, changed a tire, etc.

The degree to which many parents have abdicated the responsibility to raise their children to public school teachers is startling. And when teachers have to discipline a kid the parents often go all cancel culture on the teacher.

Administration doesn’t consistently back their teachers in disciplinary matters; cell phones in class were a constant problem. The administration prohibits them and instructs teachers to confiscate phones if necessary. When they do, parents camp out in the principals office and demand the teacher be disciplined, when the student doesn’t assault the teacher for taking their phone.

Had one such student threaten my wife, so I paid a visit to her classroom, stood off to the side as students entered and stared intensely the little sh!t and asked her “was it that one?” She nodded, I stared until I was sure he’d wet himself, then left. No further trouble from him or any other students who saw it.

I’m so glad she’s retired now. She did what she loved and felt called to do, for which she got less than market wage, abuse and disrespect. Thankfully there are a few exceptional students who made it worth her while and who still keep in touch with her.

One of the students I taught 4 years ago just murdered somebody two nights ago.

You hit the nail on the head with parental abdication.

A bigot, perhaps. She likely adheres to the ostensibly “secular” Pro-Choice, select, opportunistic, relativistic (e.g. “ethical”) quasi-religious school of thought.

A four member delegation from the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU), all active supporters of the #RedforEd movement, traveled to Venezuela earlier this month to provide support for the socialist regime of Nicolas Maduro.

The delegation consisted of Richard Berg, a former Teamsters Union official who currently works for the CTU, and “rank and file” CTU strike captains Sarah Chambers, Fabiana Mariel, and V Voeta Vargas, according to press reports.

Okay, if teachers are so great, why is it that so many adults don’t know when to use an apostrophe? In the last year, I have seen more and more and more words in the plural form with an apostrophe, as though the word is possessive, rather than plural.

Won’t teach cursive, and now won’t teach the proper plural and possessive forms of words?!

Just another reason to get rid of these public education unions and tell the union teachers it’s time for in person education and that if they refuse to return to work then they will be terminated.

Shame that a woman so attractive is such a disgusting individual.

Sarah to the media- I’d like to thank the teachers of the Chicago Teachers Union for funding my well deserved holiday trip to Puerto Rico
