Kamala Harris tweets radical leftist advocacy of “equity” over “equality”

Kamala Harris tweeted an animated video which sounds familiar to those of us who have lived or followed radical leftist campus politics. The video espouses “equity” over “equality.”
What’s the difference, don’t they sound the same?

On campus, this is called “equity,” a euphemism for racial, gender and other discrimination. It’s the opposite of equal opportunity, it’s demanding equal results even if it means discriminating against some people on the basis of race, ethnicity or other immutable factors. It’s the core driving the “antiracism” movement on campus. When campus activists and administrators say “equity” (as opposed to “equality”), what they really mean is discrimination based on race to achieve a desired racial outcome.
The desire to move away from “blind auditions” hurts people who otherwise would have been chosen based on the quality of their music, or in other contexts, their academic performance on standardized tests and other objective measurements. “Equity” is not a victimless crime, it’s just that the victims don’t have the political and social justice power to stop it.

Andrew Sullivan, who previously said he is voting for Biden-Harris, but he nonetheless correctly called out Harris in two tweets:
Why would a vice presidential candidate seemingly endorse full-on Marxism days before a general election? Does she believe government should enforce equality of outcome for everyone? Seriously?
“Equitable treatment means we all end up in the same place.” That’s equality of *outcomes* enforced by the government. They used to call that communism.
It’s not just alien to our economic system, it’s alien to our civil rights legacy in which equality and equal opportunity were paramount. It requires, as critical race theorist Ibram Kendi writes in the *bible* of the critical race theory movement, How to be an Antiracist:
“The only remedy to racist discrimination is antiracist discrimination. The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination.”
The entire nation will be an activist campus if Harris has her way. There’s a reason her Senate record was rated to the left of Bernie.
Kamala Harris is the single most radical person we have had on a major party ticket. And if Biden-Harris wins, within the first term she will be president as Joe’s mental and medical condition forces him to resign.

Point of order, that’s not what equity means. It’s what she means by it, but she’s misusing it. As a lawyer, she knows what equity actually means, so her misuse is deliberate.
Equity means fairness, natural justice. It’s not equality of opportunity or of outcome, but of treatment along the way. So yes, if someone starts out with an advantage, and everything else is exactly equal (which of course it never is), then it is equitable — it is right and just — that that person should end with the same advantage as he started with. This is superior to equality, and it is what we should be pursuing.
They should have shown Michael Jordan able to reach the rope and me needing a stool. You can give me all the resources in the world and I will not be a star basketball player. These people always fail to see how their plan works on their own successes. But, this does mean that in a Biden administration a continuing failure for certain people to succeed just means they have not gotten enough resources from the people who have succeeded, end of discussion.

I usually agree with many of your points on this blog, but here you are wrong. “Equity” has a meaning in Leftist academic circles and Critical Theory that encapsulates the line from “Animal Farm” where “some…are more equal than others”.

The reality that they are ignoring is that Life does not allow for everyone to end up at the same place. Some people are not capable of ending up at the same place no matter how much of a boost they get. Some people do not even WANT to end up at the same place.

“Gay” had a sexual meaning since long before you were born, no matter how old you are. By the early 20th century it meant sexually loose, as opposed to “strait”. That included but was not limited to homosexual. I’ve seen a reference from as late as 1930 that used it in that sense. But by the 1940s it had narrowed to mean homosexual specifically.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could explain to me why, why, the DNC thought that Kamala Harris would make a fine VP. She was clobbered in the primary season. She didn’t make it to New Hampshire. She was publicly eviscerated by Tulsi Gabbard (who would have been a much better running mate for Joe). She polled 1% or less routinely there at the end.

“Equity” is far, far worse than “equality of outcome”.
“Equity” means having an equivalent share in governing society, which requires inequality of outcome because White people are considered to still have “White privilege” and the only way a non-White individual can have an equivalent share in governing society is if White people are discriminated against and end up less than equal in outcome.
It is justification for perpetual discrimination on the basis of race *regardless* of outcome.
