MSNBC’S Joe Scarborough said that President Donald Trump’s COVID-19 positive test pushes back Amy Coney Barrett’s hearings two to three weeks.

Just noted on MSNBC by @JonLemire: Trump's chief of staff Mark Meadows, who is around Trump often, has spent time in the last 24 hours or so with Judge Amy Coney Barrett. Might Meadows and Barrett have to quarantine? If so, what would that mean for the confirmation hearings?

There’s no excuse these people won’t use in their effort to delay, and try to thwart this nomination. Barrett has been put before the Senate for consideration, and there’s no reason anything short of her death, or incapacitation should interfere.
If McConnell was any good, he’d crack the whip over Graham and get this done now, not beginning in two weeks and dragging on for as long as the Democrats can keep it going.
Regardless of who is infected, hearings can continue via video, how is this any different video doctor visits?
I agree. As it only takes a simple majority, until the end of the Senate term, in January 2021, let ALL meetings be virtual. Allow the press access to the recorded feed.
And, a bonus, any Senator not in order, or out of turn, is muted. Only the Senator with the floor may speak.
They can direct comments to the person in charge through chat (also archived). That should cut out a lot of grandstanding.

Just let Judge Barrett testify by video if those ancient senators are afraid they might get covid cooties from her, via Trump.

Alternatively, cancel the hearings altogether and move to a vote. She already testified a few years ago when she was confirmed for the court of appeals, so these new hearings are just a waste of time anyway, as everybody knows. Just drop the pretense and get on with it.

Apparently, Judge Barrett is a COVID-19 survivor.
With the exception of a longer than expected Easter break in April, the Senate has kept functioning even when there were senators occasionally self-quarantining for precautionary reasons. Rand Paul had WuFlu in March, asymptomatic, and no other senators caught it from him.
But POTUS has it and now it’s time to shut everything down?
The Democrats on the committee have already said they won’t vote for her and most won’t even meet with her privately. Most Republicans on the committee have already announced that they will support the nomination. The ‘Confirmation Hearing’ will serve only as a platform for senators, on both sides, to pontificate and generate sound bites to be used in campaign ads.
No one’s mind will be changed by the hearing and everyone knows it, and I realize Senator Graham does not the appearance of a rushed process. Citing the already-known biases of the Democratic senators against the nominee, the already-announced intentions of the Democratic senators to vote against the nominee, and above all the desire to avoid the potential exposure of septuagenarian and octogenarian senators to COVID19, Senator Graham could simply call a vote on the question of favorably reporting the nomination to the Senate as a whole with a recommendation to approve.
Too bad it’ll never happen. It’d be fun to watch the meltdown.
Tell the Dems to look at the bright side. Go direct to a floor vote, and then everyone can get back to campaigning. Why allow campaigns to falter over a done deal?

The POTUS nominated her, he doesn’t need to participate in the hearings. And he only needs to be of clear mind to confirm her.
Once again, the Dims need to go pound sand. At this point I imagine they’re learning to like it.
The President’s job is completely done and he is now irrelevant, although I suppose he could hypothetically re-involve himself if he withdrew the nomination. Now it’s up to the Senate, and if confirmed there, she would be sworn in by SCOTUS. The President has nothing to do with it anymore, so his health is irrelevant.
Presidential illness is exactly why the office of Vice President exists in the first place. There is no need to slow down or delay any official business because the President is ill and can’t leave the White house.
The Senate may need to be in person for the floor vote, but everything else could be done by video, which would further decrease the opportunity for the Dems to create drama.

Hmm….I’ve been using Zoom for classes; FaceTime for cello lessons and phone calls with family and friends, and other conference applications for medical appointments – since March. That way, you have your two week isolation, while at the same time holding the bulk of the hearings, After that, just need .to vote in person.
The Republicans need a slogan to speed the confirmation. I suggest “No Justice, no peace.”
