Time to #DefundUN? Secretary General links coronavirus pandemic harm to “millennia of patriarchy”

Last week, the former member of the Portuguese Socialist Party and the current United Nations Secretary General linked the response to the COVID19 pandemic to gender inequality.
The secretary-general also pointed to “disturbing reports from around the world of skyrocketing levels of gender-based violence, as many women are effectively confined with their abusers, while resources and support services are redirected.”
“In short,” he said, “the pandemic is exposing and exacerbating the considerable hurdles women face in achieving their rights and fulfilling their potential.
And Guterres warned that “progress lost may take years, even generations, to recover.”
The secretary-general issued a policy briefing in April on the impact of the pandemic on women and stressed again that they must be at the center of all efforts to tackle and recover from the coronavirus.
“The pandemic is only demonstrating what we all know: that millennia of patriarchy have resulted in a male-dominated world with a male-dominated culture which damages everyone – women, men, girls and boys,” he said. “This is the time to rebuild more equal, inclusive and resilient societies.
I would like to note, before going into further details on the United Nation’s assertion, that men have been harder hit by the pathogen than women. I suppose that could be viewed as “toxic masculinity”, if one really wanted to stretch the definition.
Men and women have similar odds of contracting the virus, although there is some variation across countries: in some, women make up the majority of cases; in others, men do. But men face a higher risk of death than women,
across the U.S. and indeed across the globe. In England and Wales, for example, male social care workers are dying from COVID-19 at a rate of 23.4 deaths per 100,000, compared to a rate of 9.6 for their female peers.Our colleague Shamika Ravi reports in her paper “COVID-19 trends from Germany show different impacts by gender and age,” that the gap may be growing as the pandemic spreads. As Ravi writes: “Remarkably, the mortality rate of men is rising significantly faster than mortality rate for women in Germany, for all age groups.”
Now, just in time for America’s “Labor Day”, the United Nations tweeted out another portion of Guterres’ address, which was a woke message linking the pandemic to the patriarchy.

President Donald Trump axed the funding for the United Nations’ World Health Organization in the wake of its covering China’s role in the origins of its pandemic and the agency’s lies about human transmissibility and masks at the start of the pathogen’s global spread.
Many Americans are taking a page from the “Defund the Police” movement, to create one that appears to have much wider appeal to our nation’s citizens.

Actually, notify them that their lease is being terminated for their ongoing attempts over 70 years to meddle in the affairs of state; set a 2-month lease termination date to give them time to pack up and leave, then put the buildings to better use than attempting to destroy a country.
A better use, and at the same time symbolic, would be to use it for high-rise firefightning technique training.
Now if the UN really cared about male dominance, it would be going after the Muslim countries that practice genital mutilation, prevent girls from getting an education, encourage wife beating etc etc.
But we are not even allowed to mention those things, let alone take any action.
In that respect, the UN sounds exactly like the Democratic Party and all the “women’s rights” groups like NOW, Planned parenthood etc. the only bad males are some Europeans and all USA men.

My father was a Bircher.
My biggest disappointment with Ronald Reagan was his failure to get us out of the UN. Imagine what a better position we might be in today if he had pulled the plug on the UN 35 years ago.
Reagan failed also in shutting down CPB, Amtrak, Dept of Ed, NPR, etc. But, he talked a good story.
Let IRS sue the UN, the legal entity, as a party to a tax evasion scheme; and by the State Dept to enforce in equity the UN’s dues claims (pledges by) all member nations; place lis pendens on Manhattan property and simultaneously let the President condemn the property as a security risk to the USA and remove its diplomatic status, thus taking control of the Manhattan real estate as a “protectorate”. … Order the “undesireables / diplomats” out of the USA; NYC can file suit against property for false claim of “tax exempt” purpose given it’s purpose is political. If member states do not pay assessed dues (with interest) then auction property as a bankrupt debtor under Chapter 15 of Bankruptcy Code. If members pay then court administers funds to ensure UN activities are consistent with it original charter as a forum for discussion without political agenda.
There are very few democracies in the UN.
It mostly being a body of dictatorships, it serves nothing else but being a communication conduit to eliminate war as well as disease and starvation control.
How it morphed into Communist China’s personal advocacy group says wonders about American politicians, educators and media people selling the rest of us out to the communists.
The UN is an evil genie now out of its bottle. Plug it back in: go back to what it was: a giant “hotline” and food to starving people.

Not just defund the UN, move the entire UN complex out of the US. I suggest moving it to China since they seem to selecting most of the UN leadership.
The UN should have been defunded well before 1970 hit.
While the Supreme Communist Guterres is linking COVID19 pandemic to gender inequality, we are linking the United Nations to Communism and it’s inhrent problems. Since it’s inception, the John Birch Society has pushed to “get US out of the UN! And Pasadena Phil is absolutely right: not only get the US out of the UN, but also getting the UN out of the US!
I have become the only breadwinner in our household now. Mom has to stay home and homeschool the kids because the school district is too risk adverse to hold in person classes.

Even if generally true, it’s not the pandemic that’s doing the “exposing and exacerbating,” it’s the response to the pandemic that’s doing the damage.
