When it comes to shutdowns, the goal posts keep getting moved and people are noticing. We were told we needed to quarantine to keep the healthcare system from collapsing, and we did that. So why are we still shut down?
Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports did an epic rant about this on Twitter which has picked up millions of views in a very short period of time.
Portnoy has obviously tapped into something that is being felt by many people.

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy, known by fans as “El Presidente,” went viral Wednesday on Twitter with a profane rant fighting back against coronavirus lockdowns.
Entitled “Emergency Press Conference – When Did Flattening The Curve Turn Into Finding The Cure,” Portnoy emotionally warned about the plight of Americans confused over whether to stay home or go back out in the world to make a living.
“I would rather die of corona… or take my chances… I don’t want to start over,” he yelled. “There are no great options but you can’t just decimate the entire economy.”
In the U.S., as in many countries, the lockdowns have helped trigger catastrophic levels of job losses. The U.S. unemployment rate soared to 14.7 percent in April, the highest rate since the Great Depression. Roughly 30 million Americans have been out of work.
“Are we just done as humans? … You have to take risks! We’re Americans!” Portney stressed.

There’s a very simple reason that Portnoy’s message resonated with so many people. Everyone knows that continued shutdowns are unsustainable. We simply can’t go on like this for much longer.

Sorrento Theraputics claims to have found an antibody which is 100% effective against Wuhan Virus. If true Fauci and the Propaganda media have a lot of work to do to discredit this advance.

In my opinion – effective, safe and cheap, unless you might be a Democrat or Deep State actor – Hydroxychloroquine + Azithromcin and Zinc. The Laura Ingraham show last night had a TX doctor on who said patients improved within a few hours. All the doctors who like it say it works best for mild to moderate cases (sort of like antibiotics do not work on Sepsis if given too late). NYU (Langone) medial center reported earlier in the week a 44% drop in mortality from HCQ. A child with a sore throat goes to the doctor, get a strep test in the office and an Rx for antibiotics, if positive. With the HCQ regimen it MIGHT be as simple as that for everyone – appalling that we do not yet know.
Needing a (Phase III) clinical trial ….. bogus. The purpose of a clinical trial is to be able to draw statistically valid conclusions from a small sample, to control the immense cost. If you have tens of thousands of people getting a treatment, or not, you by definition have representative populations.
“Dangerous” ….. bogus. HCQ has reportedly been given for decades for inflammatory diseases Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis in the same or higher doses for life, with very rare side effects of consequence. I saw a Lupus doctor on TV saying he had never seen a serious side effect in his whole career. The dosage is evidently cumulative, so giving a low dose for only 5 days for Covid should a trivial issue. By the way HCQ is not Chloroquine, but a similar, milder drug. Also, the major killer from Covid appears to be the “cytokine storm”, an inflammatory response by the body – so anti-inflammatory drugs should be key candidates.
Never had one but understand that is part of the makings of a gin and tonic – a drink invented by colonials to make the dosing of quinine more palatable.
One doctor said there is much more of the HCQ in the tonic water than is needed to defeat Chi-na. And if it’s cumulative ….. well guess we know why none of the DEMS have been infected.

There are many of us who felt it was absurd from the very beginning. It made little sense. The infection rate never matched the doom and gloom pushed by the propaganda media, and yet it was being treated as if every person on earth was going to die if they caught this Chinese Virus.
Many of us saw it was a tool to be used against the economy. It was. It was said by President Trump that the “cure couldn’t be worse than the illness”. Sad to say it very likely could be.
It is being estimated that about half of businesses that were shut down from this Chinese Virus will be lost. Closed for good. If we don’t open for business soon, across the country, and not this slow walk like Herr dictator Cuomo is pushing, the percentage of businesses closing are likely to be higher.
This is the most absurd thing I have ever witnessed. With idiots like Cuomo pushing blame of people dying from it onto those who say to open it up. The number of dead from the virus is high, but it is bumped way higher due to the lies being forced from Drs to blame the virus so reimbursement is higher.
How sick things are right now. Suicides are up. Those could be more from the Chinese Virus than many of the bogus accounting have been pushing.
There have been many studies that poverty and unemployment drive morbidity and mortality. I do not think any of us will ever see a 3.5% unemployment rate again. Some may not know it, but cancer is considered “elective” surgery. I know someone with colon cancer whose surgery has been postponed 5 times. The death rate from cancer is one or two orders of magnitude larger than from Covid. This is nuts.
Trump was sold the bogus “up to 2.2 million deaths” model out of Imperial College London to lock down the economy and keep the hospital system from being overwhelmed. That never happened, with the hospital ship sent to NY City by the Feds long since sent away (little used). When is Trump going to wake up and realize that he has been “had” – to destroy his “great big beautiful economy” and lose the election??
The protests need to start NOW! We are already slowly surrendering as the water reaches a boil. Eventually, without a cause to unite us, we will be divided into the “it’s about time” camp vs the “well they went too far” camp as communism becomes entrenched. If we are too timid and afraid to act now, it will be too late.
Me? I will be going on a road trip next weekend to exercise my freedom to travel and start scouting where I will be moving to. Let’s hope I can make my move before they start herding more and more of us into leper colonies.

I hear ya. We want to escape Illinois (mind you, the real problem is $#!+cago…the rest of the state is actually filled with decent folk), so we’re considering a road trip to Dallas to check things out.
I’m retired in central Illinois, and for the last month I’ve been checking out houses across the river in Missouri. Well, today I got something in the mail that may just push me to make the move: my property tax bill, up 8% in one year. Property taxes on similar houses in Missouri are 1/3-1/4 of what I’m paying here ($900-$1300 there compared to $3900 here.) The only problem is trying to sell a house in Illinois right now. I can afford to move; now I just have to convince my wife, even though she’s becoming more in favor of it every day because of the edicts coming out of Springfield.
Risk can sometimes be quantified, but feelings of risk are subjective. What one person considers an acceptable is seems to another person like a hair-on-fire emergency. Granted.
What baffles me about the situation is that if news reports are to be believed (always a big “if”), countries around the world are taking Covid-19 very seriously.
If panic were confined to the United States, then I would say it’s increasingly frenzied Trump Derangement Syndrome. Leftists and globalists have held off the peasants’ revolt but haven’t been able to crush it. The Covid-19 panic (as opposed to the virus, which is real) is their latest tactic and it seems to be working well: Americans are terrified and America is almost on a respirator. But even Russia and China are acting like it’s the zombie apocalypse. Sweden, Taiwan, and a few other places seem like zones of sanity, but they are the only ones.
Yes, there is real risk, especially for the elderly. But that’s almost always true. We’re no longer in the position of being taken by surprise. We’ve seen this nasty virus do its worst, and we’ve learned more about what to do with it. We don’t have a cure, and we might never have a cure. We don’t have a vaccine, and we might never have one.
So what is the rational solution? Do we decide it’s better to starve to death in a wrecked society and a dead economy than to take a 0.1-0.5 percent risk of dying from Covid-19 or, more likely, “with” Covid-19?
There’s an interesting parallel between Covid-19 and the lockdowns. It’s often not Covid-19 that kills people, but their immune system’s catastrophic over-reaction. Likewise, Covid-19 couldn’t destroy our societies (any more than 19 Saudis with box cutters could do it), but our catastrophic over-reaction seems to be doing it quite effectively.
The situation is absolutely nuts. What the hell is going on?
Perhaps civilization’s time is up. As the poet Longfellow put it, “Who the gods would destroy, they first make mad.”

And therein lies the issue. We do not know how many have died from –from — Wuhan virus, we only know how many have died and also exhibited some symptoms assigned to that virus. Many of those who have died were well on their way before this thing showed up. Actually, as is said, on a long enough time-line we are all dead.
Many of the deaths from whatever are classified as “Wuhan related” (or some politically correct pseudonym for it) when no autopsy has been performed and not even a blood test to see if they had it or to what extent. There is a financial benefit to medical providers if the treatment is Wuhan related, and obviously a political component. So far,none of the projections from the various models have come to pass, just like with the climate hysteria. When will we learn.
They have probably overestimated in the low range by 10 times and maybe even a hundred times.
They’re so dishonest all the time, remember half-truths are said to be the perfect lie, that you can’t believe anything from them not even their breath that passes the lips.
The progression from reality (flattening the curve), then to lockdown until a vaccine and then lockdown until a cure is the natural path of the Progressive Left. A starting reality then is warped by the drive to their view of societal perfection. The “right to choose” becomes infsnticide. Concern for the poor leads to open borders and abandonment of care and rights of fellow citizens. Representative government is turned into one party dictatorships. Don’t get me started on rule of law, affirmative action and gun control. Every progressive policy eventually runs off the rails and destroys social fabric and the nation.

“It’s easier to get forgiveness than permission” someone once told me while I waited on management to give me the nod for a change I knew would save time and money and product quality. No one disagreed with the change on technical, quality or cost merits, people were just butt-hurt that the change hadn’t been coordinated through a process improvement team and implemented by consensus with great fanfare for the team. To that vein, if American’s are waiting on government officials to tell them when and how they can live, can do something for their community and for their own livelihood, they’ll starve to death. Protests with signs at the governor’s mansion are ineffective. Protests need to take the form of simply ignoring the duplicitous bastards and going back to normal. Law enforcement can’t arrest and incarcerate everyone. Eventually, the government will cave and “lead from behind” – but not before dragging their feet because they’re butt-hurt and resentful of people who can govern themselves better than the governors can.

I am shocked at the lack of constitutional challenges. So far every one has ultimately prevailed in favor of the challenger, but such have not been launched in many states or have been reported, NY, NC, NV, HI, and likely many others all have no press reports of challenges I could find.

What I’ve been seeing elsewhere is the keep it all closed/everyone should be wearing masks everywhere, all the time people are getting much more angry, and in some cases their arguments are getting ugly and directed personally at others (because personal insults are a great way to get someone to accept your argument).
For example (these are paraphrases):
Anyone who supports any type of reopening is a selfish human being who does not care for his or her health or the health of anyone else including loved ones, if that person has any, and does not care if they passed CD-19 to someone else and that person ends up dying.
Oh, and anyone who does anything in “defiance” of the rules and gets CD-19 should be denied medical care.
The government absolutely has the right to shut businesses down and take away licenses if they defy the rules. Heck, turn off their water and power too.
We must trust the scientists and doctors because they will never lead us astray. If Dr. Fauci wants things to stay closed, that’s what should be done.
Another Great Depression is preferable to allowing things to open back up again just because people want to go out and have fun (that some people would be going back to their jobs is irrelevant). It will just spread things faster.
If you knew someone who died from Covid-19 you’d be singing a different tune and you’d want everything to stay closed too.
Personally, I get the sense that a lot of the above is mainly coming from people who are older/retired, are at-risk, have a steady income stream, live in urban areas, and are very fearful and thus have been staying at home 99% of the time.
But it scares me how many people these days are willing to throw away their liberties and the liberties of others so they *personally* can feel safe against CD-19. The economy, others’ personal livelihoods, the fact that people are dying and will die from other things, and the rule of law itself be damned.
The answer is simple (too simple, apparently): People concerned for their own health and safety can take whatever steps they deem necessary to protect themselves. If they think they’re safer at home with no work and no income, they can knock themselves out. How long before they figure out they need work and income for their health, shelter, heat, light, food, and water?

One of the local business owner’s son made comments about our governor and her mask order on twitter and one of our locals found out and plastered it all over local social media. They’re demanding that the parents disavow their son. They’re mean, nasty and petty people and I had no problem calling them out. It won’t hurt my business because those jackasses can’t afford me.
Like so much liberal bullshit, ‘flattening the curve’ was an outright lie from the start.
Just like Obamacare, just like their attempts with ‘climate change’, they lie to get the program they want in place, then the program never goes away.

In Ulster County, NY, a barber kept his shop open and the county announced on Wednesday he has been diagnosed with CD-19 and anyone who went to see him should get tested.
For some, this is why lots of businesses need to stay closed and the government and law enforcement must make sure they stay that way. For others, it’s an example of “Welcome to the concept of risk. Open things up and let people, whether business owner or consumer, take the risks they want and let the chips fall where they may. If you personally want to keep staying home, keep staying home.

I was finally able to locate the data on deaths with preexisting conditions in San Diego County. Through 5/9 there have been 175 total deaths in our county of 3.3 million people. That seems innocuous enough but the number of people who have died and had NO underlying conditions is 8! EIGHT! Thousands of businesses closed and tens of thousands of people out of work for what?
FFS there is risk in everything we do in life. We are adults. Let us decide if we want to accept the risk and continue living our lives like we did before March 19th.
