This has become an issue every Democrat must embrace now to remain viable. Joe is obviously trying to court Bernie Sanders voters and other progressives.

CNN reports:

Biden backs free public university tuition in olive branch to progressives

Joe Biden is partially embracing progressives’ call for free public college tuition, backing a plan to make universities tuition-free for those whose families make less than $125,000 per year.

The former vice president’s move, announced by senior aides on a call with reporters hours before his Sunday night debate with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, is Biden’s latest olive branch to the left as he attempts to consolidate the party behind him and pivot to a general election against President Donald Trump.

It comes the same weekend Biden adopted Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s proposed bankruptcy reforms, which would undo major parts of a law the two had fought over 15 years ago, when Biden was a Delaware senator and Warren was a professor.

Biden, who has amassed a delegate lead on Sanders and is looking to all but clinch the Democratic nomination in Tuesday’s primaries in Arizona, Florida, Illinois and Ohio, is increasingly seeking to embrace popular proposals from his current and former opponents. He had previously called for community college to be tuition-free.

“This continues the tone you have heard from Vice President Biden over the last couple of weeks that as Democrats we are united and we are looking forward to truly pulling this party together,” a senior Biden campaign aide said on the Sunday conference call.

“As president, (Biden) will continue to be open to the best ideas to make this a reality, frankly regardless of where they come from,” the aide said.

The real beneficiaries of this plan will of course be the colleges themselves, who will see a massive increase in federal subsidies.

What, you thought the *students* were the constituency bein catered to by these plans?

So the main question then is whether he is trying to win over the students/families who are “not” paying or the college employees who will be receiving? This isn’t winning the hearts and minds of those good at math.

We’ve been seeing a steady stream of articles here on LI about colleges shutting down due to declining enrollment. Plans like this will encourage more students to enroll and keep all the college administrators and “___ Studies” professors gainfully employed.

And just as we saw tuitions rising as a result of government-backed loans to students, there won’t be any pressure on the colleges to control costs. The gravy train will just keep chugging along.

Of course, the Dems don’t need to “win over” the college employees who will benefit from this largesse. They’re already faithful party members, but they have a lot of clout in the party and they do expect candidates to convince the public at large of the need to spend more money on “education”.

One little quibble. Studies professors were never gainfully</b? employed. At best, they are quota fillers to satisfy the Dept of Ed and the EEOC.
