Illinois Takes Steps to Ensure Undocumented and Transgender Students Can Apply For Aid

Transgender and undocumented students now able to access state college aid
A loophole preventing undocumented and some transgender students from seeking financial aid in Illinois officially closed this week — and state officials say “several dozen” people have already moved to take advantage of the change.
The new law providing a state mechanism for undocumented and transgender students to apply for Illinois financial aid took effect Jan. 1, but Monday was the first day the program was up and running.
Previously, undocumented and some transgender students could not apply for state financial aid due to a technicality that prevented them from using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) program…
The new law, dubbed the Retention of Illinois Students and Equity Act, faced some opposition when it passed the General Assembly last year.

Transgender people who are required to register with the Selective Service System, but decide not to, are not eligible for Federal Student Aid. Under federal law, men between the ages of 18 and 26 years old are required to register for Selective Service, a system that keeps a list of eligible men in case the federal government revives the military draft.
Under Selective Service regulations, women are exempt from registration. So are those who identify as male, but were born female. People who identify as female, but were born male, are still required to register. In order to receive federal aid, college students who fall under the selective service requirements must sign up.

The article addressed the confused students. Now, what about the illegals?
Used to be that to get a grant or aid you had to show not only need and academic capability, but some sort of admirable character to justify the aid.
So, we all see what academia now views as “admirable”.
Because the state government has already solved all of our pension, property tax, and other money issues. /sarc
Oh thank sweet heaven. I was losing sleep over this. Are illegals and transgenders in Illinois getting sufficient financial aid for college.
I bet you think I am being sarcastic. It sounds like snark, doesn’t it? But it’s not. Once more for emphasis and clarity.
I sincerely hope that the state of Illinois provides sufficient college tuition assistance to its illegal alien and transgender students so they can attend in-state schools.
In fact, I hope Illinois doesn’t stop here. I sincerely hope that the state GOES EFFING BANKRUPT ON ANY AND EVERY POSSIBLE FINANCIAL INCENTIVE SO ILLEGALS, CRIMINALS, AND THE MENTALLY ILL WOULD RATHER STAY THERE THAN COME HERE.

In any case I am glad to hear that the state of Illinois is on top of the burning issue of keeping segments of the population that we don’t want in Texas in Illinois where they belong.
Ironic, isn’t it. I moved here from Kali permanently in 2005. Talk about a segment of the population nobody wants in Texas.
But have you heard the expression, the past is a different country? The Reaganesque California I grew up in, and left in 1988 to join what was supposed to become Reagan’s 600 ship Navy, looked nothing like Pelosi’s feces and discarded syringe littered drag queen theme park.
In fact it looked more like Texas than 2020 Houston, San Antonio, or Austin.
