Masked Protester Throws Liquid Substance at Conservative Speaker at UMKC
Other student protesters shouted “Hands up, don’t shoot!” as he was arrested
Michael Knowles of the Daily Wire gave a speech at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) this week. Student protesters turned the event into a circus, and a masked figure even attempted to throw liquid, initially believed to be bleach, onto Knowles and was arrested.

Speaking at the University of Missouri-Kansas City on Thursday night, The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles was attacked by a masked protester who used a super soaker to fire liquid at him that appeared to be glitter-colored bleach; police later said that the liquid merely smelled like bleach. Knowles’ speech was titled simply “Men Are Not Women.”
Hecklers consistently interrupted Knowles and yelled at him, prompting Knowles to respond, “I know, you’re so oppressed, my dears. I know, life is so hard for you. You have to live in the richest, most equitable, most just country in the history of the world. You have to get a college education; you have to voluntarily go to lectures; it’s so awful. I can’t imagine.”…
Then all hell broke loose, as the protester tried to squirt what appeared to be bleach at Knowles.
Knowles told The Daily Wire, “The topic of my lecture was ‘Men Are Not Women.’ Apparently this plain fact was so offensive to some leftist thugs that one of them decided to shoot me in the face and side with a super soaker full of what appeared to be glitter-colored bleach. At first I just thought it was paint because of the color and smell. I was later told it was bleach; police now say that the substance merely smelled like bleach. This is what conservatives on campus are up against.

The criminal penalties for doing this should be higher than what is normal. It’s one thing to protest someone giving a speech. It’s another to attack them and society should punish people more harshly for attacking people who are speaking.
Like hate crime laws.
And the response from the university chancellor is disgusting. Reading between the lines it is almost as if the chancellor was in support of the attacker. She just can’t publicly say it for liability reasons.
And it could have been worse. It could have been a real gun. How long until these nuts that can’t control themselves start using deadly violence?
How long until normal people get so sick of this crap that they start curb stomping these prog morons?
Which is another reason I think sentencing laws should be enhanced for stuff like this.
We don’t want a situation where people just start attacking each other at speech events like this.
People who go beyond protesting and into the realm of attacking speakers need to be dealt with more harshly to prevent the type of violence you are talking about.
It would have to deal with denial of constitutional rights, but that is a feature of the Left anyway. Just actually upholding the law would be a starter. You can get beaten to a pulp and the attacker walks.
Not soon enough. Waiting for the police to do something is useless. They obey orders. When told to stand down, or not be there in the first place, one is on his own.
I realize that these dull witted people probably do not understand that it is easy to make very high concentration bleach with water and sodium hypochlorite (readily available as a pool supply), and that bleach can cause severe burns, disfigurement and blindness.
So the reality is that this act merited a lethal force response. So why wasn’t the person committing the act shot? Wouldn’t that have made a lasting impression on his associates.
Unnecessary. This should be prosecuted for what it was, a terror attack. A terror attack is a physical assault meant to instill fear in furtherance of a political, ideological, and/or religious agenda at the same time discouraging the exercise of the political, ideological, and/or religious rights of others. This particular attack would have been no different in kind if an actual bomb had been used.
The Chancellor’s statement boils down to “Everyone is equally welcome to speak here, especially the LGBT community.” Yeah. Equally.
That kind of twisted logic would be laughable if it weren’t the for the fact that so many people don’t see the irony. “Stupid people are just as smart as smart people! Especially our favorite people, the insipid morons!!!!”

This is why groups, who are opposed by the current crop of liberals, show up to gatherings and demonstrations, armed. The left has resurrected the old practice of using violence to quell dissent or opposing views. These yahoos actually began disrupting this program BEFORE they even knew what the speaker intended to say. And, the University knew this would happen, or was likely to, as there was a significant police presence at the event.
Almost every college and university has a clause in their code of conduct, to which all students are required to adhere, which prohibits disrupting any sanctioned event or directing violence against another, on campus, except in self defense. But, that is seldom, if even, enforced against liberal demonstrators and doctrinaires.
Back in the dark ages of the 1960s, I can remember going to lectures and presentations by guests with whom I did not agree. In all instances, the audience listened respectfully. Any disagreement came in the form of questions during the question and answer session. The main reason for this was because the university expel or place on probation students who caused disruptions. The one exception to this was public demonstrations where cameras were present to record and disseminate the actions of the protestors. Today, all of these “protests” are self recorded and disseminated. They are media driven events. Even if the media is self posted on the internet.
The audience and the speaker all have the natural right to assembly and free speech. If others use physical force to try to deprive them of their natural rights, then the audience have the natural right to use physical force to combat this suppression of their rights. Whatever is reasonable and necessary, up to and including deadly force. You cannot destroy the central mechanism of peaceful political process without grave harm to our society. We need to take our symbolic maces off the wall, and resort to actual weapons of war if need be. The would-be tyrants cannot be allowed to win.

Per Andrew Branca, pepper spray could be considered deadly force in the right circumstances. Thus, this attack could have been considered deadly force by the victim or his protectors, and could have justifed shooting the attacker dead.

Nothing smells like bleach, except for bleach or other concentrated chlorine. It was bleach, and the cops should stop trying to downplay it to avoid charging the criminal who shot it at him.
If the substance is assumed to be bleach which can cause permanent damage, does the victim have the right to shoot that person?
The police showed restraint because they would be the bad guys if they broke a jaw or an arm. But buddy, I was twitching!
That woman that tried to open the door for more protesters would have caught a quick right to the head and dropped for her efforts. You can’t play with these people. They are the SA of 2019, whether they realize it or not.
