Trump Reportedly Storms Out of Meeting With Schumer and Pelosi, Calls Meeting “Total Waste of Time”
Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!
So, the shutdown negotiations are going well.
After a meeting with Democrat leadership Wednesday night, Trump tweeted the meeting was a “total waste of time.”
Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time. I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier? Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!

According to NBC, Pelosi and Schumer claimed Trump had a temper tantrum and accused him of behavior “unbecoming of a president.”
Schumer, speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill, said, “again, we saw a temper tantrum.” Trump’s behavior was “unbecoming of a presidency,” Schumer added.
Speaking shortly after Schumer, Vice President Mike Pence disputed the Democrat’s characterization, stressing that the president handed out unspecified sweets to the negotiators.
“Well, the president walked into the room and passed out candy. It’s true,” Pence said. “I don’t recall him ever raising his voice or slamming his hand.”
Schumer accused Trump of “using people as leverage” during the meeting, a congressional aide familiar with the meeting told NBC News. “Why won’t you open the government and stop hurting people?”
“Because then you won’t give me what I want,” Trump replied, according to the aide.
Trump’s reference to “30 days” in the tweet relates to the House Democratic-passed legislation to fund eight departments through Sept. 30 and reopen the Department of Homeland Security through Feb. 8. Democrats say the extra time would allow hundreds of thousands of federal workers to get paid while lawmakers break an impasse over the proposed wall.
I’m just surprised the mainstream media fact checkers aren’t diligently working to find out what kind of candy Trump passed out.
On a political level and as we’ve blogged before, Trump won’t get re-elected without his big, beautiful wall and Democrats know he won’t get re-elected without his big, beautiful wall. And thus, a complete stalemate.

I don’t believe he stormed out. He just left when the Democrats said they would not negotiate for a wall.
Should he have stayed and yelled at them?
Should have kicked them out. They’re in HIS house.
I think that Trump should cite MIT-Yal’s study that we currently have something between 22 and 30 million illegals who are busy dropping 4-5 anchor babies per family. That is a crisis which merits building a wall and tossing all those illegals out of America. It is obscene that the problem has been allowed to grow and dester for so long.
that was fester
Trump issued an executive order that ended birthright citizenship. The only problem is that the next progressive fascist president will be able to restore it.
Pelosi is out of her league. We could only wish she i soon out of the Congress.
The Dems are willing to shut down the whole government and watch it burn for less than one tenth of one percent of the budget, this does not bode well for any other attempt at budget cutting for the next six years of the Trump presidency.
The whole government isn’t shut down. Most agencies have been funded for 2019.
But isn’t it Wonderful!
The Dems’ Shut Down has identified all the “non-essential employees” who must be let go.
Hope the Dems follow their Head Up A….. strategy so long those “non-essential employees” have to take a job in the private sector to avoid bankruptcy.
Given that it includes park rangers and border patrol among others, not everybody affected is non-essential.
When the facts are on your side, argue the facts. When the law is on your side, argue the law. When neither the facts or the law are on your side, accuse Trump of behaving in a way unbecoming of a president.
Chuck and Nan are not used to a Republican who does not cave to their demands and ask forgiveness for opposing them. They told Trump “our way or the highway” and Trump said “there’s the door, don’t let it hit your butt on the way out”. MAGA!
Trump showed himself to be cool and rational in his speech to the nation last night. He would serve himself well by comporting himself similarly in these meetings with Pelosi and her ilk and having a stenographer immediately transcribe what happened and post it.
Why is that ‘storming’?
Huh? I didn’t say anything about storming, or that Trump engaged in same, whatever that is.
I just want to put the lie to Pelosi and Schumer. I also want to put an end to “aides say,” or “an individual who is familiar with someone who attended the meeting said ….”
He would serve himself well by comporting himself similarly in these meetings with Pelosi and her ilk
What makes you think he didn’t?
Schumer accused Trump of “using people as leverage” during the meeting, a congressional aide familiar with the meeting told NBC News. “Why won’t you open the government and stop hurting people?”
Uh-huh. Another “unnamed source.” Big deal. We know the account he relates is fiction, because of the “Why won’t you open the government and stop hurting people?” fantasy. There is no way Schumer would be stupid enough to say something so silly in a private meeting. That’s PR traddle to be tossed to the press, not a childish talking point to spring on a serious negotiator.
Tom Swift, I didn’t say that he didn’t comport himself well, nor did I imply it. That’s why I had the prefatory sentence. I’m trying to give Trump some rope with which to hang the Dems’ bad-faith negotiators.
“Would” implies speculation about an indefinite future, something which has not yet been demonstrated. Typing something more like “Trump is serving himself well by comporting himself” etc would avoid a misleading ambiguity.
You people amaze me – No I was not there, but WHY DOES ANYONE ACCEPT ANYTHING chucky schumer says ?
You said it – about the Dems’ Shut Down and everything else.
Chuck and Nancy: It’s 2, 2, 2, 2 Crooks it 1. It’ N-Uck.

Idiots like amy schumer do.
She probably took his name.
Actually, they ARE related.
I am sure that there is a way to get to government back open tomorrow, let me think…..Yea, give Trump the pitiful amount he is asking for, that both Chuck and Nancy have supported repeatedly in the past..that should do it!
Then you have fight over the other 20 Billion later.
It is most definitely not President Trump’s fault that there is no Border Security Wall built yet. And, the likelihood of President Trump getting it done – since no one else has done it nor is likely to do it in the near future – will be much higher during his second term than it will be with activist obstructionist DemocRats now controlling the House purse strings until 2020.
Therefor, I very much look forward to emphatically voting for President Donald J Trump again in 2020 if he so chooses to seek a second term – whether there is a Border Wall at that time or not.
The GOP “leadership” asked TRump to wait until after the midterms to push this. It would have been far easier to pressure McConnell to go nuclear and/or find 9 dem senators to vote for cloture, than go through the House and also then the Senate.
Ryan and McConnell are as much to blame as Pelosi. Seeing how this shutdown has played out has been discouraging.
But definitely support Trump. He’s trying to work with the GOPe, but they aren’t trying to work with him. So glad Ryan is gone.
So apparently he ACTUALLY SAID THE WORDS ‘Bye-bye’ when he left.
Trump knows he’s winning this. The Democrats are acting like toddlers.
What kills me is that they’ve been so ridiculously STUPID about this whole process. They had Trump over a barrel. He had to have the wall. He knew it, the Democrats knew it, everybody knew it.
Instead of demanding any number of things that Trump would have been forced to give them, they’re just stamping their feet and saying ‘NO WALL’.
Now Trump doesn’t have to give them ANYTHING. He just has to wait.
Given that most of those unpaid employees are probably Democrats, what does Trump really lose?
The MSM is against him either way. The left is against him either way.
They made a huge error in judgment trying to trap him because he’s not a “veteran GOPer”. One of those so-called veterans would have caved and coddled long ago.
That’s what people all over the internet are pointing out.
The “non-essential government employees” are almost 100% Democrat Party operatives!
As I understand it, some of the border patrol are included in losing timely paychecks.
Don’t really understand why; they seem essential to me.
Not oddly, I find myself unimpacted by the Federal Government shutting down.
Keep it shut and either mail me back my Jan 15 Q4 tax pre-payment or let me write “to ISIS with love” on a JDAM missile.
The only person who is negotiating here is DJ Trump. Since his inauguration, he has offered to sign any bill to legally recognize the status of DACA registrants. He went even farther and offered to sign any bill to legalize the status of the so-called Dreamers, an additional 1 million people not now enrolled in DACA [for a total of 1.8 million people]. He even reduced the amount that he was asking for the wall from $25 billion to $5 billion. He has signed several funding bills to keep the government open, on the promise that the Democrats will negotiate on funding for the wall. All the Congress has to do is fund part of his proposed wall. And, the Congress, in general, and the Dems, in particular, refuse to do that. Now, we have a partial government shutdown because the Congress refused to send Trump a bill containing $5 billion in funding for a border wall. And, they refused to send him a CR or bill without such funding, because they are afraid that he will veto it. The only way Trump can apparently compromise with the Dems is to give up any funding for a wall. The Dems will not budge. So, Trump has no choice, if he wants any significant funding to construct a barrier, but to simply walk away and wait for the Congress to act. Then the President can take what action he feels appropriate.
No negotiation can take place if one party is totally unwilling to negotiate.
If I were a betting person, I would bet you Pres Trump had this all planned out, look at the differences between Pres stompy foot, nd Pres Trump, it seems to me Pres Trump is trying to minimize the effect on most of the people, national parks are open to some degree, haven’t seen/reported barricades being put up at national parks/monuments/etc like the last shutdown, essential services seem to be funded for the time being. I don’t think the democrats have any options but to do what they normally do, agree to fund the wall then pull the funding back when they get what they want
“If I were a betting person, I would bet you Pres Trump had this all planned out…”
Bingo.
But less than one year ago Pelosi and Schumer approved funding on a 287 mile long border wall — in JORDAN!
Neil Munro at Breitbart.com reported at the time.
The 2018 omnibus provides just enough funds to build 33 miles of fencing on the Texas border — but it also provides $500 million to help Jordan build a wall and defense line against jihad terrorists trying to cross its 287-mile border with Iraq and Syria.
The omnibus budget says on page 394:
SEC. 9011. Up to $500,000,000 of funds appropriated by this Act for the Defense Security Cooperation Agency in ‘‘Operation and Maintenance, Defense-Wide’’ may be used to provide assistance to the Government of Jordan to support the armed forces of Jordan and to enhance security along its borders.
oh-ho. if that is true (and I have no reason to doubt you) – then Trump needs to publish that all over twitter as well.
Trump Reportedly Storms Out of Meeting With Schumer and Pelosi
And who “reported” this?
DJT never struck me as a “storms out” kind of guy. It’s not like there’s any chance that they discombobulated him with any sort of surprise and shocked him out of his normal self. They’re holding their faces until they turn blue, we know it, Trump knows it, it is indeed “a waste of time”—but hardly “storm out” material. It’s not even “pound on the table” material. He just has to wait until they realize that turning blue isn’t all that much fun.
Of course, the D’rats will try, as usual, to paint the President as a petulant child, but there’s no reason to fall for it.
Now, if the room was immediately closed with a POLICE tape and a cleanup crew went in to sop up the blood, I might start to think that the President was misbehaving. But I don’t see reports of any such excitement.
My impression is that it comes directly from the mouth of Sen. Schumer?
I think we have that asshat Romney to thank for the new democrat talking point “unbecoming to the presidency” mouthed by the lying Schumer.
We could easily have 25 billion for a real wall, not a proof of concept, with no net increase in government spending by taking it out of the foreign aid budget.
I’ll start worrying about the shutdown about the time the 2022 elections come around. Maybe by then the democrats will realize that flyover America doesn’t like being forced to be unprotected border states.
“a congressional aide familiar with the meeting”
So someone working for either Pelosi or Schumer. Definitely an objective observer.
Every time someone says “we should spend the money on this or that” Trump needs to add another 6 billion to the total. better infrastructure (LMAO), add 6 billion. more agents, add 6 billion, more drones, add 6 billion….
then spend it all on walls.
A wall constructed from the recycled remains of Planned Parenthood clinics, which are legally and ethically impenetrable under the Twilight Amendment. We can hang aborted babies… fetuses from the other side, as cannibalistic tribes once did and still do, to warn invaders of a wicked progression.
That said, mount the clumps of rubble with a Sun and Wind Wall, sell the energy to consumers at both ends of the bridge, and earmark the revenue to construct hospitals, schools, homes, offices, and industry… it’s for the People and our Posterity (i.e. unPlanned children).
I would do the same.
