Mexico Will Now Keep Asylum Seekers Until Their Claims Are Processed
“Aliens trying to game the system to get into our country illegally will no longer be able to disappear into the United States”
This process has been a joke for far too long. An immigrant seeking asylum could just disappear into the United States once they got here.
Mexico has now agreed to a new Trump administration policy which will keep asylum seekers there while we figure out whether or not they should be here.

The Trump administration announced a new illegal immigration policy on Thursday, where migrants seeking asylum in the United States must return to Mexico while their claims are processed.
Department of Homeland Security chief Kirstjen Nielsen cited emergency powers under the Immigration and Nationality Act as she revealed the new measures, according to the Washington Post. She told Congress that immigrants entering the country illegally or without proper documentation will go to Mexico “for the duration of their immigration proceedings” and called the policy “historic:”

The new policy will apply to migrants who request humanitarian protections at U.S. border crossings, as well as those who enter the country illegally, DHS officials said. Citing emergency powers allowed under the Immigration and Nationality Act, Nielsen said the measures were needed to “bring under control” a surge of unmerited asylum claims by Central Americans that led to a backlog in U.S. immigration courts of more than 750,000 cases.
“Aliens trying to game the system to get into our country illegally will no longer be able to disappear into the United States, where many skip their court dates,” Nielsen said in a statement. “Instead, they will wait for an immigration court decision while they are in Mexico.”
“Catch and release will be replaced with ‘catch and return’,” she said, using President Trump’s disparaging term for current procedures, which typically allow those whose fears are determined to be credible to be released from custody while they await a distant court date. DHS officials liken that arrangement to a “loophole” that is bringing record numbers of migrant families to the border and overwhelming U.S. agents.
This is all unfolding against the backdrop of the fight between Trump and Congress over funding for the wall:

I’ll believe it when it actually happens.
But even if it happens, it won’t address the “backlog” of meritless asylum claims. It might make lodging such claims less attractive, but won’t make that existing pile of 750,000 cases any smaller.
Sorry, no. Judge Sullivan’s decision yesterday directly contradicts this. It doesn’t matter what Mexico agrees to. As long as that decision stands, any agreement with Mexico is irrelevant.
Best visual here was that little weasel Gutierrez walking out of the room. He couldn’t stand to hear this!
Chief Justice Roberts just sided with the Leftists on this issue.
I don’t believe Mexico is being honest with us. This deal will be used by the Democrats to justify why we don’t need a border wall.
We need to have “border security” extended to greater use of the e-verify program, looking at employers who hire those here illegally.
Further, we need to make sure those receiving benefits are here legally. If not, feed them while we escort them to the border. We won’t separate families. If parents want the child to stay with them, they can take child with them back.
When will we have a “Crime Stoppers” program, with pictures and particulars of those who were given a court date but have never shown up?
If a person here illegally was given a court date, and they never showed, then they need to be deported quickly when found. Allow a few days to verify we are deporting the right person, fingerprints say. Then off they go with what they were wearing when captured. They get a phone call to say goodbye. I say by not making their court date, or rescheduling, they have given up their right to further legal delays.
All of which are very good starts. Adding in criminal charges against state and local officials who knowingly aid and hide illegal aliens–such as the judge in Massachusetts who hid an illegal alien from ICE–would be effective as well. They don’t even have to be convicted, just bankrupted and ruined defending themselves from zealous federal prosecutors would suffice.
