German Parliament Approves ‘Third Gender’ Option
German Family Affair Minister: The law is “an important step towards the legal recognition of people whose gender identity is neither male nor female.”
The German parliament approved a ‘third gender’ identity, allowing people to identify themselves as “diverse” on official documents instead of the usual male or female option. The new law introduced by Chancellor Angela Merkel’s coalition has been passed by both chambers of German Bundestag, with the upper house adopting it on Friday.
The legislation is an outcome of a judicial campaign that ended with the country’s top constitutional court ordering the parliament to create a third gender option. In November 2017, the court ruling had recommended the introduction of “another positive designation of … sex that is not male or female.”
Members of Merkel’s cabinet welcomed the move. The law was “an important step towards the legal recognition of people whose gender identity is neither male nor female,” Family Minister Franziska Giffey said.
Germany’s right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) was the only political party to came out openly against the new law. “Which gender you belong to has been an objective fact since the beginning of time — just like age and height,” said party’s parliamentary group leader Beatrix von Storch.
German state broadcaster Deutsche Welle reported the passing of the new legislation in the Bundestag:
Germans will soon be able to choose a third gender on the register of births, with “diverse” set to become an option.
Up until now, people had to choose between “male” and “female” when giving their gender, or leave the option blank.
But following a vote in the German parliament late on Thursday intersex people — people whose sexual anatomy does not fit the typical definitions of male and female — will be allowed to change their entry to “diverse.”
The “third gender” option places Germany in line with other countries that have introduced measures to recognize intersex people or a third gender, such as Austria, Australia, New Zealand, India, Canada and Portugal.
Writing for the Deutsche Welle, a commentator complained that the new law does not go far enough as it “does not make using public bathrooms easier for intersex and gender nonconforming people” or exempt them from “uncomfortable physical searches while going through security at airports and other checkpoints,” something they were being singeld out for.
Germany’s ecological Green Party wants the gender identity to be a matter of free choice and not restricted to person’s anatomy. Party’s parliamentary chief, Anton Hofreiter, lamented the fact that changing one’s gender in Germany still required a doctor’s certificate. A medical examination in the matter was “preposterous and a sign of distrust of those who don’t fit into an old-fashioned view of society,” he said.
Germany’s Lesbian and Gay Association (LSVD) decried the medical determination of gender as a “degrading assessments” and called for it to be abolished. “[G]ender is not only defined physical signs, but also by social and psychological factors,” LSVD said, agreeing with the Green Party’s position.
German Left, crying foul over the injustice inflicted by ‘misgendering’, has been eerily silent about the growing number of violent attacks by newly arrived Arab and Muslim migrants against homosexuals in Berlin and other cities. For the Left, appeasing migrants trumps gay rights.
The leftists are not only sore losers, as the aftermath of the Brexit vote and Trump’s victory have amply demonstrated, they aren’t any better at winning either. Every victory for them is just another opportunity for more grievance-mongering and moving the goalpost further. For the radicals on the Left, the struggle isn’t about ensuring fairness or securing equal rights. It’s about destroying the norms and institutions rooted in the Western history and tradition: a precondition for their magical post-modern Socialist utopia to emerge.

Having just one new category will not satisfy the marginals in society. Normalizing psychiatric diseases in the name of inclusion solves nothing.
So then every single law, program, or benefit that specifies ‘male’ or ‘female’ is now invalidated.
Fucking morons.
Because it doesn’t actually exist in nature (never has, never will, and anyone who passed 7th grade biology would know that), it had to be forced into existence via legislation.
It is their “Divide and Conquer” plan.
Leftists are Psychopaths who aren’t happy unless they’re literally tormenting others.
Two sexes: male and female, established by genotype. Two genders: masculine and feminine, respectively, phenotypes, social standards, and choices characterizing physical and mental (e.g. sexual orientation) attributes. The third gender is transgender represents significant deviation from a natural correlation, includes homosexual, bisexual, transvestite, neo-sexual, etc. – the transgender spectrum.
“When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they will then believe in anything.” ― G.K. Chesterton
I have much sympathy for those afflicted with gender dysphoria, transgender fetishism, same-sex attraction, or the other delusions which run counter to the natural order as God commanded, but when societies descend into the madness of moral relativism, embrace the private delusions of the dysfunctional, and attempt to legitimize them through the administrative state, nothing but tyranny can be the logical outcome.
All your shape shifting are belong to us, so to speak. Yet, upon your passing, the M.E.’s report will only describe the simple DNA reality you were born with into this world – male or female…
Germany is gone
This reminds me of the fraud Obama’s last year, surprised he didn’t try to recognize polygamy or beastiality..
I believe there will come a day in the future when the younger generation, after seeing freedom and affluent society become a thing of the past, when they realize that all these things which were done for “fairness” and “compassion” were horribly thought out, and we gave away our futures for folly.
How is it again that Conservatives are the anti-science people, even though it is the left which time and again deny science for votes?
Fantastic article as always, Vijeta. The part that really stood out to me was the following:
Wait, so people who don’t “identify” as male or female should be exempted from security checks at airports and other venues? This is surreal. Who even thinks like this? Oh, right . . . .
I’ve always said to the so-called ‘transgender’ bullshitters – ok, so ‘men’ and ‘women’ is unacceptable.
Fine. We’ll change the signs on the doors to ‘penis’ and ‘vagina’.
Now shut up and use the proper bathroom.
Thank you for those kind words. Means a lot to me!
The Deutsche Welle article argues that transsexuals are singled out for security checks making them discriminatory, but backs it up with no facts. Just more grievance-mongering, I guess.
Possibly not that big a deal.
This information has no business being on most government documents anyway. For identification, height, eye color, hair color (ephemeral though that may be) are more useful; if more is needed, photo and fingerprint are much better. Sex they don’t usually need to know, any more than they need to know religion, blood type, Zodiac sun sign, or one’s middle name written in Futhark runes. I don’t put in anything optional, like “race”, and I wouldn’t give them gender info if it’s optional, either. Just on general principles; government should mind its own business, and I’ll mind mine.
No, sex, race, eye color, height, weight, hair color are best in that order. I might put eye color after height and weight except everyone always lies when asked about height and weight. The government does need to know the info, this is like saying they don’t need race to identify criminals, they most certainly do need race. They need sex identifiers as well.
An equally disturbing factor in all this is that their supreme court ordered their legislature to create a law that allows for a third gender. The unelected court tells the elected legislature what to do.
