Handmaid’s Tale Themed Protests of Pence are Not Only Stupid but Dishonest
“feminism is about the propagation of leftism first and women last”
The left has always been crazy about street theater as a form of protest, especially if it involves do-it-yourself costumes and props. In the age of Trump, and more specifically Mike Pence, progressives have latched onto the Hulu series the “Handmaid’s Tale” which imagines a dystopian future where women have lost many of their rights.
The left tracks Pence’s movements and dispatches teams of women in red robes to protest almost anywhere he goes. Word was apparently sent about Pence’s appearance in Philadelphia.
Julia Cohen reports at the Daily Caller:
Women’s Protest Says Pence ‘Ushering in a Theocratic Society’
A group of more than 100 women are planning to protest Vice President Mike Pence’s Monday visit to Philadelphia dressed in costumes resembling “The Handmaid’s Tale” because Pence will “[usher] in a theocratic society.”
“Pence is one of the most dangerous reactionary figures in modern history … he has dutifully supported and been instrumental in every Trump policy since they made their unholy, “holy” alliance to bring Christian Fascism to the heart of this regime. He is a key figure in ushering in a theocratic society right out of the Handmaids Tale,” the event page for the protest states.
“It is only fitting that Pence be greeted with 100 women dressed as handmaids. A visual representation of Pence’s end game of women totally stripped of their rights and humanity,” the event says.
Once again, the left is trying to use fear to convince the public that their own deranged fantasies are reality. Mike Pence is a very decent man, but instead of being hailed as someone least likely to be ensnared by a #MeToo scandal, he is smeared for what the left imagines him to be.
There are places in the world where women live under a theocracy, such as Iran. Yet you never heard these same leftists speak out when Obama was bending over backwards to do business with the Iranian regime.
Like all “intersectional” facets of the left, feminism is about the propagation of leftism first and women last.
There is another troubling aspect of the “Handmaid’s Tale” which is conveniently overlooked by these protesters. It’s a point I made in my most recent column for Townhall:
A little reported fact is that the show’s star, Elisabeth Moss, is a member of the Church of Scientology (Hollywood’s unofficial religion), which has been repeatedly accused of forcing women to have abortions against their will, not to mention other accusations of human rights violations like separating family members and targeting former members for personal destruction.
Even the left wing feminist blog Jezebel has acknowledged this conflict. Anna Merlan wrote in 2017:
Isn’t It Relevant That the Star of The Handmaid’s Tale Belongs to a Secretive, Allegedly Oppressive Religion?
…It brings to mind the way Handmaid’s star Elisabeth Moss has, for years, cheerily dodged questions about her lifelong membership in Scientology and the alleged abuses within the church…
But women who have left Scientology detail a series of abuses against women: a Tampa Bay Times story in 2010 detailed an alleged pattern of forced abortions for women in the Sea Org; a lawsuit against the church by one woman who says she was forced to have an abortion has been mired in complicated court proceedings since 2009. More recently, the public learned that celebrity Scientologist Danny Masterson is being investigated for sexual assault; all three women making the accusations allege that they were pressured by Scientology not to publicize what they say happened to them.
CNN’s Brian Stelter recently did a report about the relevance of the “Handmaid’s Tale” in the age of Trump. Watch Andrew Klavan of the Daily Wire react to the report below:
All of this explains the Pence Handmaid’s Tale meme you’ve probably seen on Twitter:

if they were so interested in protesting a theocracy why didn’t they wear burkkas
Don’t expect narcissist arrogant ignoramuses to abide by logic, especially when it makes them look as stupid as these clowns do.
Andrew Klavan is a 10.
As far as I can tell the only way to totally stop abortion is to have women under constant surveillance.
I think they find that prospect undesirable.
And Republicans don’t tell them their fears are groundless.
And thus they vote.
Abortion rites, as with all elective abortions (e.g. murder, manslaughter, genocide) of human life, are, unfortunately, a natural right. The way to address the normalization of denying life to those fetuses, offspring, babies, girls and boys, that are deemed unworthy is to separate the Pro-Choice (i.e. selective, opportunistic, congruent) Church and State, and teach that human life begins at conception, not a spontaneous growth, and that we are not reducible to a diversity class (e.g. colorful clumps of cells, organs, parts), but rather possesses a unique dignity. We need to restore human rights and opposes elective abortion of the wholly innocent for social progress and similar ambitions. Selective-child, and through normalization, one-child, is intolerable. The products and services offered by Planned Parenthood et al to progress recycled-child are equally intolerable.
I would have liked it better if you had said -“natural right, none of government’s business” and then the rest.
That second part (none of government’s business) needs emphasis.
BTW you might want to look up the Talmud on abortion. It has a different view than Catholics. The health of the mother (including emotional) is primary.
So it could also be “government keep out on the basis of religion”.
Abortion is the government’s business, just like any other kind of murder. Your claim is every bit as absurd as someone claiming that killing black people or Jews is none of the government’s business.
That is an outright falsehood. There is not even the slightest hint of such a position to be found anywhere in the Talmud.
On the contrary, the Talmud makes no distinction between a foetus, after 40 days from conception, and any other person. It sanctions abortion only on the same grounds that it does killing anybody — self defense. If the baby is endangering its mother’s life, she is entitled to defend herself by killing it. She is absolutely not entitled to kill it merely to protect her health, let alone her “emotional health”, as that term is abused by abortionists.
(If the mother is so emotionally unbalanced that continued pregnancy is likely to drive her to suicide, that would be a threat to her physical life. The same is true if it would turn her into a vegetable, breathing but not functioning, so that she might as well be dead. But that’s not what abortionists ever mean by “the mother’s emotional health”.)
PS: The only significant differences between Jewish and Catholic law on abortion is that Jewish law considers personhood to begin at 40 days, not at conception; and that it regards a baby who threatens its mother’s life as an attacker, so that even acts that directly target it are justified.
Life is a continuous process, where sperm and eggs are both alive and waiting for the opportunity to combine. A good argument can be made that allowing any egg to pass unfertilized is murder. An equally good argument can be made that excessive reproduction leading to famine is also murder.
Even worse are people like the palestinians, who reproduce in excess for political reasons and doom most of their children to unproductive lives.
No, it cannot. An unfertilized egg is not an organism, let alone a human being, let alone a person. It’s no more significant than a toenail clipping.
The only way to totally stop any crime is to have everyone under constant surveillance. Everyone finds that prospect undesirable, which is why crime exists.
Why would it even occur to Republicans that some people have such an absurd fear, or that they ought to be denying it? Has anybody, ever, made such a demand of anybody else who has ever proposed any law?
A perfect example of why the 19th needs to be repealed.
How many women, that is feminine females, advocate and defend a culture of ignorant bliss, for wealth, pleasure, leisure, narcissism, democratic leverage?
I think that many and perhaps most women, as do many and most men, recognize that rights and responsibilities are not separable. That said, I would advise a policy of repent and sin no more. Unlike one-child advocated by a minority regime, selective-child been normalized, and cannot simply be excised from an otherwise civilized society.
Pro-Choice is two choices too late.
#HateLovesAbortion
Men and women are equal in rights and complementary in Nature.
You know you are failing when your theatrics get all of the attention and fully obfuscate your message.
Serious anti-abortion laws would make women wards of the State or a patriarchy – as they are in so many cultures.
Women would need to be watched.
It is not difficult to figure out. And I voted for Trump.
You voted for Trump like hillary klinton will become president.
Bullshit. Serious anti-abortion laws would impose no greater burden on women than serious anti-rape laws do on men, or than serious anti-robbery laws do on everyone. Women would need no more watching than everyone needs watching now. Abortions would continue to happen, just as murders of all kinds do now.
Those women would look a little better if each wore a large “A” on their backs.
A for available? Of course, some are undesirable.
Truth in advertising requires all these breeders to wear burqas, not fictional, fabulist TV show costumes. smh
Most of us are breeders, and we actually fully support our offspring. The problem are those who breed at others expense, and then fail to do well by their children, again at others expense.
Yes, a couple, a woman and man, a wife and husband, a mother and father, has first rights and responsibilities for their welfare and their Posterity. Society, at least the American (i.e. conservative) society, have agreed to a compact that promotes the general Welfare.
Yes, feminism is about progressing leftism, at the expense of women, men, and babies, too, and notably directed by a minority regime with ambitions of monopoly formation.
Trump chooses feminine females to head his diverse business ventures. It seems that closer to home, the women in his life also have a choice to have a baby and keep her, and to have it all.
The Handmaid’s Tale is a progressive concoction that extrapolates from exceptional circumstances to liberal extremes.
When you’re a lefty, every day is Halloween.

Snort! Guess no one told these bozos their meme is already taken. “Soon” is a routine reply by online game developers when pestering players want to know right this very moment when the super critical patch or upgrade will be released.
“When are you fixing the Romulan Warbird’s hit boxes?!” cry the players.
“Soon” says the Game Dev
It never ha
I think that secretly these protestors are assuaging a desire to actually be oppressed and forced to bear children and have a “Master”.
Being a prisoner or a slave can actually be freeing in many ways. Your fate is no longer in your hands nor determined by your own decisions for good or for ill.
Plus what other costume could be so cheap? A red robe and a piece of plastic for a bonnet. Good cosplay material.
Too bad the entire book it’s founded on is so much poppycock and a fevered dream by a divorced feminist with delusions of grandeur and extreme misandry. Would we grant such acclaim if a recently divorced nerd boy with anger issues and visible misogyny get awards for a science fiction tale about the enslavement of men by women? (there actually was a short story to that effect in the late ’50’s. Can’t remember the author so the women must have succeeded in suppressing it. 🙂 )

So it’s become a joke. Unfortunate choice for our Faux Hand Maidens. Kinda silly foreboding now, yes.
“Soon”
Bwahahaha. Make it stop. LOL please !
Wonder who paid for all of those costumes?
The sexual revolution has now given us paid surrogacy: the selling of eggs and the renting of wombs, poor women being used and exploited by rich men, with the woman having no rights to her child. This is the real dystopian nightmare.
