Conservatives Should Create an Alternative White House Correspondents’ Dinner

It’s time conservatives took a page from the left’s playbook…

https://youtu.be/LhTieecbCS4

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is the same thing every year. No matter which party is in power, the Republicans are the punchline of the harshest jokes. It’s time to create an alternative event that offers some balance.

Liberals have been copying conservative successes for years. The Huffington Post was created to be the left’s Drudge Report. The Occupy Wall Street movement was created to be the left’s Tea Party. Some Democrats are already saying they need their own Trump.

It’s time conservatives took a page from the left’s playbook and created an event just like the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that’s geared towards the right.

This was not my idea, credit goes to FOX News host Greg Gutfeld.

Josh Feldman writes at Mediaite:

Greg Gutfeld Suggests Hosting ‘Counter-Dinner’ After Trump Proposes He Host WHCD Next Year

President Trump liked Pete Hegseth‘s idea for Greg Gutfeld to host next year’s White House Correspondents Dinner. And Gutfeld is on board. Well, sort of.

On The Five today, the hosts mostly panned the dinner and Wolf’s speech, with Jesse Watters saying the jokes were “very dirty.”

Kimberly Guilfoyle then brought up the President’s tweet about her co-host:

Gutfeld is up for hosting an event the night of the dinner next year, but “not there.”

“We have to do a counter-dinner,” he proposed. “Maybe do it for police widows. The money goes there and then Trump has to go to that instead of that.”

The video below is cued to begin at the 11 minute mark, just press play:

Greg’s idea to make it a charity event is excellent and he would make an outstanding host for the first one. You could sell tickets at various levels for different seating areas. Open it up to conservative writers, journalists, bloggers, and video makers. I would go.

SUPER idea! Why don’t you jump in and help organize it? With all of the contacts all the conservative bloggers have, and the FOP support groups for the fallen, it could be organized in fairly short order, I would think.

PrincetonAl | May 1, 2018 at 7:47 am

Hold it in the Midwest or somewhere in flyover country. With lots of bloggers instead of old corrupt media.

And hold it in a big enough venue that there are tickets for regular folks to attend. You want a table at event with the President? You have to share it with the regular folks. No elitism. And a bigger audience than the WHCD. Let them decide whether to attend theirs or cover this again.

And stream it on the Internet. No need for the press to get clicks out of covering what happened. Transparent so you can judge for yourself.

It will be YUGE! And they will be forced to trash it – I mean cover it – because it will be too big to ignore. And because they can’t help themselves.

UnCivilServant | May 1, 2018 at 8:18 am

I thought you were supposed to borrow successful ideas. Something ignored by the general public at large doesn’t fall into that category. The only people who actually care about the correspondants’ dinner are the media.

Some Democrats are already saying they need their own Trump.

Don’t they already have a surfeit of Trumps of their own? I thought Trump running as a Republican was some Republicans’ idea of copying the Democrats by recruiting one of their least offensive buffoons.

Some Democrats are already saying they need their own Trump

Did I miss it, but CBS & NBC were loving the primaries as Trump stomped all over the Republican mind trust. The Democrats picked Trump for the Republicans. He is their “Destroyer.”

If anything, the Republicans need to find their own Trump, if they dare.

Why? Screw the “correspondents.” They don’t deserve special honor, if they deserve any at all.

Doesn’t CPAC sort of do the same thing? Rather than comport to the socialist play book, just shun them.

To really put the hurt on them, convince Americans to cancel their cable TV packages and thereby starve them of an audience, everyday, all day.

blah deblah | May 1, 2018 at 8:40 am

The cults of mutual admiration have outlived any usefulness they might have had.

Or we can just sit back, relax, and watch them sincerely, vigorously stick their foot in their mouth. In times like this, the ancient wisdom is to not interrupt.

A dinner filled with conservatives won’t do the Republicans any good. They’ll catch well-deserved flak no matter who’s slinging it. From the conservative standpoint, the Democrats are reliably outrageous; but the Republicans are perpetually disappointing, and that’s not a whole lot better.

Better yet, strike a blow for common sense and ditch the WHPC. It serves no function nowadays. No “news” function, at any rate.

Agreed, one should not conflate Republicans with Conservatives. As to Republicans? We have seen the content of their character.

You cannot fill a culture with a vacuum.

It needs to be done in some well-done manner.

The country needs it, and it would be highly enjoyable, and thus folks would watch it.

Ditto with the Oscars, Emmys, etc.

the idea is help support the president NOT to attack him from the (C) side.

have GENTLE fun at his expense NOT be attack dogs and have a charity that supports fallen LEOs.

this is also intended to reach the ‘middle of the road’ to give the (R) and (C) a chance.

Unsure why any attack has to be made on the president.

WHCD transformed into WH & Reporters’ Dinner, with each year a different charity receiving, and a different person roasted, not a WH person roasted.

      Could be James Wood roasted…
      Or Tucker Carlson…
      Etc.

And no representative from the Trump White House goes to the despicable WHCA dinner. None! If they do they are giving the left permission to treat them badly.

Henry Hawkins | May 1, 2018 at 9:55 am

Why ‘dinner’? Make it the White House Correspondens’ Lunch and hold it among blue collar workers at a flyover country factory.

Close The Fed in reply to Henry Hawkins. | May 1, 2018 at 10:09 am

No, Mr. Hawkins, we gals like to dress up!

    Needs to be a dinner!

With Maria Bartiromo (sp?) wearing better gloves than when she sat there during the pre-election dinner and Trump and Clinton sparred.

Where is our Bob Hope?

I thought the jokes about Hillary were the best part of the night. Yes, there were no jokes, because she lost. One of the reasons that the dems can’t get past the election is because I keep reminding them that they lost, and it was their fault that they lost.

Hmm, I actually had this idea awhile ago… just saying

buckeyeminuteman | May 1, 2018 at 11:35 am

Perhaps the White House should pull out of the dinner. No sanction of it happening, no more “White House” allowed in the name. No Press Secretary or admin officials in attendance. They can call it what it really is, “Liberal Media Swamp Circle Jerk.”

Milhouse in reply to buckeyeminuteman. | May 1, 2018 at 11:43 am

It is not and has never been a White House event. It’s a White House Correspondents’ event, and how do you imagine the White House could stop it? “White House” is not a trademark, and Trump has no say over who uses it.

Close The Fed in reply to buckeyeminuteman. | May 1, 2018 at 12:41 pm

Unsure why not WH folks there. If it was made into something decent and civil, sure.

Dinner for White House Reporters, transformed into WH & Conservative Reporters’ Dinner, with each year a different charity receiving, and a different person roasted, not a WH person roasted.

    Could be James Wood roasted…
    Or Tucker Carlson…
    Etc.
Or a sports star, like NE Patriots quarterback…

Or a White House “Breitbart Awards” Dinner.

Give awards to the best conservative reporters.

Having a Conservative White House Corresponent’s banquet would probably be the cheapest dinner on record. If all the conservative WH correspondents showed up,there would only be about four people there.

The White House Correspondent’s Dinner has always been an opportunity for the media to pat themselves on the back for what a wonderful job they are doing to safeguard the country from politicians. Former Presidents have often attended solely for the purpose of stroking the journalistic egos present and thus engendering some small support from them. In the case of El Presidente Trump, nothing he does is going to engender him in any way to the media, including the WH correspondent corps. So, it is in his interest to simply ignore it. Of course, being trump, he refuses to do that. So, he hosts a pro-Trump rally on the same night as the banquet.

Though it is not usually a good idea to T-off the Presidential Press Secretary,if you want any access at all.

… or it would be those Hollywood parties that James Woods tells us about … they spout of liberal and then tell him on the sly that they agree with his conservative positions.

Close The Fed in reply to Mac45. | May 1, 2018 at 7:38 pm

    Mac45:

I’m saying have a dinner for Conservative Reporters, no matter the beat! Even local reporters from Nashville, Atlanta, whereever, for example. Just anyone! No need to make the WH reporters special. They’ve proven they’re ignorant snobs.

And comedy, not even roasting. No need to do roasting. A good comedy routine, Bob-Hope style, would be the bomb!
