Hillary’s Famous “Deplorables” Line Wasn’t a Slip of the Tongue

Hillary’s Famous “Deplorables” Line Wasn’t a Slip of the Tongue

In September of 2016, most of the experts still believed Hillary Clinton would crush Trump in the election. Then Hillary said something which would ultimately become a symbol of this presidential contest.

How can anyone forget this? Hillary: Half of Trump Supporters Belong in a “Basket of Deplorables”

The moment was framed as a gaffe, something Hillary accidentally said out loud when she thought the only people listening were her supporters. A new book disputes this account, however.

Phillip Wegmann reports at the Washington Examiner:

The ugly, elitist backstory behind Hillary Clinton’s ‘basket of deplorables’

It’s hard to imagine, now that Donald Trump is president, but there was a time, a less genuine time to be sure, when politicians didn’t just say things. They scripted things. Messaging often went through advisers, editors, and often focus groups before making it to the candidate’s lips.

Less than two months before Election Day, Hillary Clinton gave a speech at an LGBT fundraiser in New York City. Breaking down the electorate she said, “you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables.” It wasn’t a gaffe. It wasn’t slip of the tongue. It was a scripted line, that New York Times reporter Amy Chozick reports, was developed over glasses of chardonnay.

In her new book, Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling, Chozick details how the Clinton public relations assembly line went haywire. And it is ugly.

The idea that this was a scripted and tested phrase makes it a little worse, doesn’t it?

Douglas Ernst of the Washington Times has more:

Clinton stunned when Hamptons-tested ‘deplorables’ bombed, ‘Chasing Hillary’ author says

The author of “Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling” has covered Mrs. Clinton’s career for a decade, but her new book promises to supply “inside details” on the candidate’s failed 2016 campaign.

Excerpts released ahead of publisher Harper’s April 24 release date already have Clinton insiders questioning the author’s integrity.

“‘I really messed up,” Mrs. Clinton allegedly said on the night that her “basket of deplorables” line went viral.

The New York Times journalist said, however, that the Democrat repeatedly used the line during campaign fundraisers.

“The deplorables always got a laugh, over living-room chats in the Hamptons, at dinner parties under the stars on Martha’s Vineyard, over passed hors d’oeuvres in Beverly Hills, and during sunset cocktails in Silicon Valley,” Ms. Chozick wrote, The Daily Beast reported Friday.

Trump exploited this for all it was worth, and it worked like a charm.

The rest, as they say, is history.

There is still some hope that line will help her get elected, if Animal Control Officer is an elected official in the 5 boroughs or Lon Guyland.

There is still some hope (ok, very little) that the line would get a chuckle at some white collar minimum security penitentiary

Alderson, West “By God” Virginia comes to mind.

It certainly worked for Martha Steward and for Squeaky Fromme.

Gee, who would have guessed that something that’s funny to the caviar eating crowd at the Hamptons wouldn’t be funny to Middle America?

I dunno – if the Plains Indians enjoyed Crab in their delicacies like Pow Wow Chow indicated, anything is possible according to our betters.

But Fauxcahontas claims to be Cherokee, who never saw Indian Territory (Eastern Oklahoma) until the Cherokee Removal of the tribal elements from Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Southeastern Texas and Alabama. All but Tennessee coastal states.

Hate to do anything to help the witch, but Cherokees could well have had dishes with crab in the contents.

Whether a one-liner once spoken or often repeated it reveals who she is and why she’s unfit for public service. She runs others into the ground in order to build herself up. Anymore, fewer and fewer are buyin’ what she’s tryin’ to sell.

First off, ewww, spending 10 years of life follow Hillary. Even as a dyed in the wool leftist propagandist, that was hard duty. I hope she got combat pay, as hearing cankles laughing it up has to damage eardrums.

Testing “funny lines” in the Hamptons, yeah, she wasn’t living in a bubble world, and thinking it would play well on the campaign trail when Mitt had said something less poorly worded that went over like a bomb, even though he just spoke the truth about lock-step Democrat votes (with a nice douse of fraud thrown in).

I am left wondering how this woman Hillary, who has no sense of humor, who at best was robotic when she wasn’t tripping over her own feet, would get laughs with her means of delivery. Could it have been the polite chuckles of sycophants that would laugh as programmed when she did? She tried the joke about wiping – oh with a cloth?! as well, which fell flat.

I just wonder why she wasn’t 50 points behind, given how vile a person she is, and her hiding her health issues added to her “fine sense of humor” should have made Donald’s run easier.

No one from either wing of the uniparty will ever be 50 points behind. Many voters vote party no matter who is running. I have no doubt that Jim Metzger got Jewish votes when he ran against Clair Burgner for Congress just because Metzger had that magic “D”.

Maybe the Russians inserted that into her speech

I don’t believe a word of it.

“‘I really messed up,” Mrs. Clinton allegedly said on the night that her “basket of deplorables” line went viral.

As everybody knows, Hillary is never at fault for anything. And you won’t even have to ask her about it—she’ll tell you. Over, and over, and over …

Maybe the rest of that was “I really messed up letting those PR flacks talk me into using that line. I knew it wasn’t a good idea, but they insisted.”

Nor dis she speak so delicately.

The term “messed up” isn’t in her lexicon.

She has had few occasions in her political life when she was not surrounded by sycophants. Can you imagine being in her employ and expressing disapproval of anything she said or did???

More like corrupt ‘parasites,’ looking for a crumbs.

Bill Clinton was president of the United States. The sociopath got himself impeached, and then continued to hitch his wagon to one of the the scummiest humans on planet earth: his fake wife.

In the one time they had sex, they produced a homely dummy, lamely attempting to carry on the scam.

They are tied to each other, and smell like it. Everyone around them stinks as well.

It didn’t have to be this way for Bill: he could have cut bait long ago and had a fairly dignified legacy.

Now his legacy is as laughable as obama’s official portrait.

I don’t mind being considered a “deplorable” by her. After all, I consider her a “stinkin’ commie hippie”. 🙂

She also used the term “irredeemable”. That is a dangerous word. “Deplorable” is just insulting.

Unlike a fundraiser which is by design focused on your most ardent supporters, to be elected means appealing to most of the electorate.
Insulting 1/2 of the voting public fails on so many levels.

People have to remember. HRC is not a seasoned politician. She is a seasoned ideologue. She wants power and the trappings that go with it. Had she surrounded herself with the right team (who would have told her to campaign in those close states) she would have been the 45th POTUS (shudder to think).
We don’t need another book on how she lost and who she blames. If anything write a book called “This is how you lose a coronation”.
2020 promises a clown car of dem candidates. I bet the msm won’t call it that; that only fits against the GOP.

I don’t think she could have handled more campaign stops physically. She isn’t a healthy woman, and the more she was on camera, the more times she had being filmed having some weird thing, be it the freezes, the facial twitches, the falls and slips. She isn’t enjoyable to hear, as she has a grating tone and poor delivery of lines. Her events were very small, and controlled heavily, and even that was taxing on her.

Her team had the job of trying to polish a turd, and no matter how hard you rub, the stench is there, and that turd isn’t going to shine.

Bill looked horrible too, and he made gaffs, so putting him out to campaign for her wasn’t working either.

I think she was counting on the Obama vote generating machine, and while she got it to a point, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Trump real support. Plenty of people showed up to vote against her.

Honestly, who thought this fake human being’s remark was a ‘slip of the tongue?’

Hillary klinton has never had an original thought in her life. She is about as genuine as as a counterfeit three dollar bill.

She needs to be imprisoned before she dies – and from the looks of it, Jeff Sessions along with her.

We need to wake up and realize that the only thing that build us out was harry Selden her the founders. Even then, the electoral college was a compromise worked out by competing interests. It turns out that it prevents the cities from dictating to the countryside, but as I understand it they didn’t flow street from the pen of John Jay, It was worked out so that one faction could not dominate the other.

Ehhh still no edit function.
Hari Seldon is a characther in Asimov’s famous Foundation series, he have developed a mathematical sociology which would predict history. His system was that impossibly wise, and designed to withstand future challenges that no one at the time could imagine. That, to me, describes our Constitution.. Because it has been so successful at preventing fascism, the neofascists (the woke, as they describe themselves) assault it, serially testing any means they can find.

The line worked so well inside the progressive bubble because that’s what they all think.

When Hillary said “ deplorable‘s,” that’s when the course of the election switched.
