But it’s no time for joy. The dithering on Syria has given the same elements who transitted Syria to kill U.S. troops in Iraq a chance to build up their operations in Syria and return the violence on the Syrian government.
Suicide blast in Syria hits military compound; 9 dead (emphasis mine):
A car bomb tore through the parking lot of a military compound in an eastern Syrian city on Saturday, killing nine people in the latest in a series of blasts in recent months targeting security installations, the country’s state media reported….
The state-run news agency SANA said the blast hit the parking lot of a military residential compound, while an opposition group, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reported that the bomb went off close to the city branches of the Military Intelligence Directorate and Air Force Intelligence. State TV said U.N. observers based in the city visited the site of the blast.
Attacks such as the one in Deir al-Zour, which once served as a transit hub for militants heading to fight U.S. forces in neighboring Iraq, have raised fears that al-Qaida-linked jihadis have made serious inroads into Syria’s rebel movement.
No one claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack. A group calling itself the Al-Nusra Front has claimed some previous attacks through statements posted on militant websites. Little is known about the group, although Western intelligence officials say it could be a front for a branch of al-Qaida militants from Iraq operating in Syria.

As persecutor has stated, we have no dog in this fight. Just like we didn’t have in Libya. No reason to get involved spending blood or treasure. Islam is our enemy, regardless of who it is issuing the fatwas and implementing the Sharia.
It is impossible to not think of the Golan Heights in any discussion of Syria.

The United States is not the world’s sherrif, nor the fire department, nor a knight on shining armor to rescue the fair maiden. We cannot and should not become involved in any of the internal disturbances in foreign nations, even those which rise to the level of overt warfare, unless there is a real, genuine and serious interest of the United States at stake. We have no large expatriate community of U.S. citizens living in Syria; the few who live there if any can easier be evacuated, if they want to be. The other nations of the world are “sovereign”; that is to say, they are independent of the United States and neither we nor our government rightfully have any business using military force in any situation where they have not attacked us nor have we lawfully declared war against them. Neither any United Nations resolution nor any provisions of the NATO treaties require us to intervene in any other nation’s internal strife, be it political or military in character. No more Libyas, no more Afghanistans, no more Iraqs; let them kill each other to their hearts’ content. Not one of those nations nor – I dare say – a single one of their inhabitants would cross the street to take a whiz on the United States if it were on fire, so be damned to all of them.
