A top Hamas official linked to the arms trade with Iran was assassinated in Dubai. Everyone assumes it was the Israelis.
Dubai officials announced that they had identified the group of assailants, and even published photos, names, and nationalities, based on the passports.
Uh, not so fast. The Irish government says that three of the alleged perps identified by Dubai do not exist:
The Irish government says the trio of alleged passport-holders identified on Monday in Dubai as Gail Folliard, Evan Dennings and Kevin Daveron do not appear in Ireland’s records of legitimate passport-holders.
“We are unable to identify any of those three individuals as being genuine Irish citizens. Ireland has issued no passports in those names,” the department said in a statement to The Associated Press.
The Irish government says the passport numbers publicised by Dubai authorities also are counterfeits, because they have the wrong number of digits and contain no letters.
I’m not even an amateur sleuth, much less a sleuth, but even I found it hard to believe that an elaborately organized hit squad would use their real names and passports.
I guess they don’t read Jean le Carré in Dubai.
