Trump: Military ‘Will Not Accept or Allow’ Transgender People
The military “cannot be burdened with tremendous medical costs and disruption.”
President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that the military “will not accept or allow” transgender people:
“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you”

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter under President Barack Obama “issued a directive last year that permitted transgender troops to serve in the military, and to undergo reassignment surgery.”
Congress has started to look over a spending bill for the Pentagon worth almost $700 billion. The New York Times reported that Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) “has proposed an amendment that would bar the Pentagon from spending money on transition surgery or related hormone therapy.”
That same measure failed in the House earlier in July because some Republicans sided with “Democrats to reject it.” Conservative Republicans have insisted “they would not support the military spending measure without the language banning money for gender transition.”
The Hill also reported that “approximately 250 transgender people now” serve “openly in the U.S. military.”
Of course the left has erupted on social media:
Transgender students? Fuck ’em.
Transgender patients? Fuck ’em.
Transgender patriots? Fuck ’em.
That’s the Trump administration.

Trump’s ban on transgender military service is one of his pettiest moves yet. You know he doesn’t care, but he knows bigots will love it.

Military service should not be a vehicle for expensive gender reassignment surgery, any more than it should be a vehicle for other voluntary cosmetic surgery. Work your gender out first, then join the military.
I know men who were abused as kids, sexually and otherwise, and they have dissociative identity disorder, which is better understood as multiple personalities. Even with therapy, they’ll have internal battles between their personalities that are different for each person.
Since some of the alternate personalities will try to take control of the person, in order to live as they wish to live, you really do not have a “stable” person. This is not good for military work.
Even after years of therapy, they still have issues. “Fractured Mind” by Robert Oxnam and “Beyond Betrayal” by Richard Gartner are places to start.
Childhood abuse is a lifelong sentence. Not saying they can’t improve, but being totally healed is ardous, long, and probably cannot be achieved with the current state of our knowledge.
…like sexual abuse tends to cause homosexuality. But again, these are issues that should be worked out outside the military branch.
Certain agencies do get to screen out people with certain disorders and/or personal conflicts. This does not belong in our armed forces.
i.e. do I want somebody in a concrete bunker deciding if he should push the Big Red Button when he/she can’t even decide what gender they are?
I can’t even argue this using these words “Transgender” or “Gender Reassignment” or “Sex Change”. They’re all misnomers. We don’t have the technology yet to change someone’s sex. We can surgically mangle them, shoot them up with hormones, and you’ll find plenty of doctors to take your money for doing this, and they’ll call it a ‘sex change’ but it is not.
And they call us conservatives “Anti-science”.
What’s really telling is that this was standard, unquestioned policy for the US Army ever since G. Washington’s day. No problems. Then, 13 months ago, Obama changes policy to inflict his far left social engineering wish list on the Army.
Trump goes back to the policy that had been the standard for 230 something years – “OHMYGOD WHAT A BIGOT! WORST HITLER SINCE HITLER!!!”
When I was a kid, maybe 11 or 12, I went though a brief period – maybe a few weeks – where I wanted to be a girl. I didn’t tell anyone. My motive have nothing to do with sex. It had to do with my perception that the girls were treated better by the teachers. I soon got over it and that desire never returned.
What if this had happened today? I shudder to think. We are supposed to let it all hang out, so maybe I would have told someone. And maybe a teacher or nurse or someone at school would have encouraged me to embrace my “new identity.”
I served on a jury once in a case involving possible child sexual abuse. Watching the child (she was only 4 or so) being questioned by police on video, it was clear that all she wanted to do was to please them, nice though they were, and give them the answers they wanted rather than just tell the truth. Again, I shudder to think of what will happen to innocent children when “well-meaning” adults encourage them to permanently embrace what was nothing but a temporary whim. It is child abuse, indeed.
And regarding military age “transgenders,” these people need help, not affirmation.
Girls are treated better by teachers. And by the criminal justice system. And the media. I suspect this is why boys “identifying” as girls is on the rise. Boys aren’t stupid, they can see the stacked deck and want a way out.
This decision is exactly right.
Gender dysphoria is a severe emotional illness, and the current fad for treatment with a long term prescription of the wrong sex hormones, much less surgery and its recovery time, is a burden antithetical to the mission of the US military.
The proponents of the drugs-and-surgery route seem to be oblivious to the consequences of long term hormone treatment, and how it can be mind-altering. Hormonal birth control pills have documented emotional side effects in some women, and ‘road rage is a known phenomenon among men who take testosterone and its variants. None of this contributes to the kind of mental stability, focus and resilience required on occasion by a military mission. Further, the two examples where we know of mind-altering effects of hormone treatments involve mere excess of the matching hormone set, much less treatment with the wrong set.
I have encountered people who are all in favor of the surgery, too. These are very young people who have not yet been fully apprised of the consequences of any surgery — scars, hardness, adhesions, and nerve damage. They have not been taught about the very real damage this surgery will do to a person’s body, and how very permanent it is. They also do not understand that this type of treatment was discontinued at Johns Hopkins because it did not affect the suicide rate of these severely ill patients.
“‘roid rage” is not the same thing as “road rage.”
I would like either to be rid of the &&^%$%#%% autocorrect, or acquire an edit button.
The delayed “correction” feature is particularly pernicious.
100000000 % correct –
Prof can you or someone add that feature –
some websites I comment on use disqus(ting) and though i am not fond of it, the edit/update feature works very well – you may also reach a wider audience. Jes’ sayin’ doncha know.
America voted for intolerance and that’s what it got.
No, America voted for common sense, and that’s what it got.
The military is for the protection of the people of this country.
It is not a place for mentally ill people to work out their issues.
Before you can “be all that you can be” you should know who you can be. JMO
I await the word from Activist Left-Wing Federal Judges across the country.
No doubt one such sagacious judge will unearth an “emanation,” or, alternatively, a “penumbra,” pertaining to an Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which will create a new “right” to serve in the U.S. military.
But if you want to serve and I can’t talk you out of it, then we have to take you, because that’s your constitutional right. It says that everybody, male or female, should have his born right to pay his service and assume full citizenship
I’d be just fine with that if only people who had completed their Two Years Federal Service were allowed to vote.
Yes, but the vast majority (98% if I recall correctly) of Federal Service was non-military. There’s no reason trans people couldn’t do service in some agency where they could live at home, have access to their usual medical providers, and take sick leave if they need it.
Yes, how long before the federal district court judge in Hawaii grants some G.I. Joe tranny-wannabe an injunction against the enforcement of Trump’s order, on the grounds that it violates the equal protection clause?
Front line commanders have enough to worry about, they don’t need this added headache. And one can imagine the horrific abuse a transgender POW would suffer.
It would be great to get women off ships/subs too. Too many pregnancies are occurring, necessitating removing them from ship and finding a replacement.
There should be a minimum carrying capacity (“lift this and carry it up a ladder and to the other side of the ship, then come back and do it a dozen more times”) required to serve on board a warship on any capacity except medical staff, and I’ll make an exception for them only because if the ship is sinking they’re going to be busy with medical duties. And this carrying capacity should be set by male standards. Warships take damage. Sometimes they might sink, and when that happens there’s a lot of impromptu heavy lifting that your average woman is a lot less capable of than your average man.
I’m of the belief that most pregnancies on ship are deliberate attempts to evade service.
I blame the NCAA
Most every country person knows that gelding a bull doesn’t turn it into a cow…
I blame the Beatles with their long hair and rock’n roll and you can’t tell the boys from the girls when they’re dancing….
There are plenty of other psychological disorders that will prevent one from serving in the military. Why would Gender Dysphoria be any different?
It’s really nothing more than progressive insanity to suggest that having these poor disturbed people serve in the military is a good idea. The military is no place for social experimentation.
If we can’t trust them for knowing what gender they are, how can we trust them for knowing the difference between the enemy and their own troops? Is there a medical term for not knowing which end of the gun NOT to point at your own face (that condition cures itself soon enough)?
This is my rifle! This is my gun! This is for shooting! This is for…. wait, WTF is this doing here? Eeeeek! I need surgery!

is this what we want here, with all the ‘religion of peaz’ imported by the bush family and Obama (the hidden Imam),
The military has one job: to kill people and break things. The complete upending of daily life and the unbelievable medical costs and recovery time of masses of new trans members would severely interfere with that mission.
The Obama administration, with its social experiments, treated the military like college with guns.
The military has one mission: to establish an order, which may, and likely will, require killing people and breaking things.
the cutting edge of the VA ?
Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand…If they want to be deployed to some a hell hole and possibly lay down their life (because of stupid ass ROEs from a POTUS they hate), line up.
On the other- It’s not a place for special snow flakes. Get in line or get out.
Another Obama promise broken.
Of course, maybe he shouldn’t have been making promises about what the next president would do. And maybe if this policy was so great he could have implemented it during the whole eight years he was president.
Good. Very sensible.
The scam is too obvious. Enlist, and get Uncle Sam to pay for it. Even as is, far too many women are in the military mainly for the free day care. That’s no way to run an army.
Interestingly enough, all the trans types I personally happen to know are ex-military. However, the trans stuff was all later; while in the service they were ordinary (albeit confused) men.
Great comments on here regarding this issue. Excellent site!!!
Oh well, we could have told ISIS “surrender now or we will send in our transsexuals to use your bathrooms.”
How does all this affect Cpl. Max Klinger and his Sec. 8 psychiatric discharge request?
Good. Time to reverse the insanity of the left.
The military won’t let insulin-dependent diabetics enlist.
Thank God we can get the military back to a sense of normalcy and focus on the hordes at the gates.
Trump says the main reason is financial, but the comments here support him as if he said it’s a psychological disorder.
By using the financial argument, Trump not only pointing out the unnecessary taxpayer burden trannies in the military would cause, but he is also trying to defuse the emotional argument that transgendered have a mental problem.
Trump will say whatever you want him to say, you just have to let him talk long enough.
Financial reasons are good enough.
now local idiots trying to say viagra type pills being paid for are issue even though only approx 10% of active duty get them and for most that do (active or not) its often due to vascular/prostate/nerve issues.

my comments to one idiot down on page
Trump is just killing off another rattlesnake that Obama turned loose before he left.
It’s a damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don’t situation. I’m just tired of military personnel being treated like lab rats in a behavioral science lab.
George Takei tweeted back to Trump that he just pissed off the wrong people. My informal anecdotal evidence of how many people were actually pissed off came on the SF local news last night.
The news report showed a crowd of people gathered at the plaza at the intersection of Castro, Market and 17th streets, which is ground zero for all LBGT demonstrations. The crowd was very much smaller than I expected with minimal spillover into the streets from the plaza.
It begs the question: What would Patton do?
