UN: The U. S. Should Pay Reparations to Black People for Slavery
“Reparatory justice”
Remember that UN working group who suggested that today’s police shootings are reminiscent of lynchings? Well, they also recommend that the U. S. pay reparations to black people for slavery.
The Christian Science Monitor reports:
“Past injustices and crimes against African Americans need to be addressed with reparatory justice,” the report said. The recommendation came after 14 years of study and interviews with US officials by the United Nations’ Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent, a body of experts and human rights lawyers that reports to the international organization’s High Commissioner on Human Rights.
. . . . In fact, the report simply connects past and present injustices toward African-Americans, to bring the issue to the forefront, says Michael Kelly, a professor of law at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
“International law generally stays out of the business of telling governments what to do with their own people,” says Professor Kelly. “It’s an effort to bring political pressure and re-ignite some level of guilt.”
To that end, the report refers to race-related gaps as issues of human rights. “The persistent gap in almost all the human development indicators, such as life expectancy, income and wealth, level of education, housing, employment and labor, and even food security, among African-Americans and the rest of the U.S. population, reflects the level of structural discrimination that creates de facto barriers for people of African descent to fully exercise their human rights,” the report stated.
Meanwhile, the UN is busily looking into the “errant tweet” posted on Twitter suggesting that Americans abroad can “stop Trump.”

I think that Congress should pass a law that allows any former slave to sue his former owner for back wages, for meal and rest break violations, and for battery (if there was any such), and that any Statute of Limitations that would otherwise bar the suit be tolled for 10 years from the effective date of the legislation.
The cause of action would be personal to the former slave, and personal as against the former slave owner. No rights for the estates or heir or descendants of the former slaves, and no claims against the estates, heirs or descendants of the former slave owners.
Let’s put this issue to rest; justice delayed is justice denied!
Oh, we should also tell the UN to go f#$% itself. Get the UN out of the US, and the US out of the UN!
The “tell the UN to go f#$% itself” response was what first came to mind when I read the title of the post.
How about making Muslim countries pay reparations? How much should Muslims pay for the million+ slaves they took from Europe (and millions more from Africa, which is ongoing to this day)?
Hey, is it too late to get in on Christians paying Muslims reparations for the Crusades?
Seeing as how the Crusades were in response to more than 300 years of attacks by Muslims, yes.
Should not the Africans who sold fellow Africans to the slave traders pay reparations?
How about the Dutch who brought the first shipment of Africans to North America(And many more there after).
How about the other slave holders of the Americas, the Spanish, Portuguese, French and English.
I am sick and tired of us being singled out for what was a world problem
Of course, the UN is completely overlooking the fact that the US ALREADY paid for slavery with the blood of its sons. If that wasn’t payment enough, nothing will be. If they’re not satisfied with people paying the ultimate price, then they will never be satisfied ~
