FBI Gave Hillary Aide Cheryl Mills Immunity During Investigation

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) revealed that the FBI gave Hillary Clinton aide Cheryl Mills immunity as they investigated her private email server. This kind of news explains why the FBI recommended the DOJ not prosecute Hillary despite overwhelming evidence:
“No wonder they couldn’t prosecute a case,” Chaffetz said. “They were handing out immunity deals like candy.”
The Associated Press reported:
Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, told the Associated Press on Friday that Mills gave federal investigators access to her laptop on the condition that findings couldn’t be used against her.
Chaffetz said he was “absolutely stunned” that the FBI would cut a deal with someone as close to the investigation as Mills.
FBI Director James Comey shocked everyone in July when he announced he told the DOJ not to prosecute Hillary over her private email server even though the bureau found she and her aides were careless with top secret information and destroyed old BlackBerry devices.
The FBI also gave immunity to Paul Combetta, an employee at Platte Rivers Network that hosted the server. He has recently landed in hot water with Chaffetz when Reddit users found an old post written by username “stonetear” who asked users how to strip emails for a VIP client. No one has confirmed Combetta owned the username, but people have found other connections. Reddit users noticed that a Paul Combetta on Etsy also has the “stonetear” username while “the inactive website combetta.com is registered to the email address [email protected].”
Former State Department IT aide Bryan Pagliano received immunity from the FBI. He set up Hillary’s private email server when she served as Secretary of State. On Thursday, the Oversight Committee voted to hold him in contempt of Congress after he didn’t show up for two hearings despite receiving a subpoena. Chaffetz mentioned Pagliano’s immunity deal, which means he shouldn’t have a problem testifying. Pagliano’s lawyers said he already invoked his Fifth Amendment rights before the House Select Committee on Benghazi, which should apply to this investigation as well. Chaffetz shot down that argument since “he has questions that fall outside the purview of the Benghazi panel.”
The FBI also gave immunity to “John Bentel, then-director of the State Department’s Office of Information Resources Management, and Clinton aide Heather Samuelson.”

Each of the grants of immunity reduces by 1 the grants of immunity that will flow from obama after the November elections.
Rick, what’s 10-20 more when he will be pardoning every illegal alien that has ever crossed any US National border at any time in known history while also granting them full citizenship?
Yeah, he can’t do the latter….but it will take the courts a century to litigate those cases one-by-one-by-one when anyone attempts to reverse it.
I think it is pretty clear the FBI was trying to prevent the indictment of Clinton rather than investigate.
Politicians investigating politicians…what could go wrong?
The custom in American government is for an incoming administration to overlook the crimes of its predecessor. Corruption, double dealing, theft, sabotage … nothing is ever investigated or punished after a new government takes over. This is not a Constitutional provision; it’s an unspoken and rather self-serving “gentlemen’s agreement” that once you’ve done your worst and are safely out, you’re still safe.
Ford made it official in the case of Nixon. The were a few anxious moments when Bush II found the sabotage and looting of the White House by the outgoing Clinton crew, but he opted to stick by the agreement and do nothing.
This may be the biggest reason why Trump terrifies officialdom of both parties; as an “outsider”, he’s never signed on to The Agreement. Once he gets The Phone and The Pen, he can ruin the cushy retirement of criminals like, say, Lois Lerner, and make it clear that crime and perversion of government office really don’t pay. And they simply can’t have that.
Tom, that is one of the things that I am fervently hoping for should Trump win. Whether or not he’d be allowed to carry it out is another matter – given the stake the FBI has in the cover up.

That seems to be a larger question under the surface. Has the FBI *ever* allowed a potential target of the investigation who has been granted conditional immunity to sit as counsel for a suspect in an interrogation/interview?
well, you see it doesn’t. No serious investigator lets two potential targets/witnesses sit in the same interview session so they can get their stories straight.
And, I don’t mean to talk up my service as if I’m some sort of hero. I’m not. But I’ve been involved in this sort of investigation. Fortunately, as an assistant to an investigator. I don’t know if I’m using the correct term; I’ve been retired for about 10 years and memory fades, but I would notify NCIS if someone was mishandling classified. Such as taking it home. Which is what Hillary Clinton did. Most people who get security clearances won’t commit this sort of betrayal, not for love or money.
These sorts of special breaks just never happen in real life. But clearly what Obama and Clinton and their minions are banking on is that ordinary citizens will not know what is supposed to happen. So Comey can stand in front of news cameras and claim we’d be treating Clinton differently if she was prosecuted for what any E-6 would get hammered for.

Let’s see now, there were four major players in the scandal involving treason and revelation of national secrets and all of them but hillary were given immunity! So if they lie after being given immunity then there is no case! Comey runs a tight ship but unfortunately it is a corrupt ship.
If Hillary got immunity, how did she get pneumonia? Oh, immunity from going to prison. I see, different stuff!
There’s practically nobody left. If there’s no way to put on the pressure, there’s no way to get any of the conspirators to squeal. Very odd.
There is a lot more connecting Combetta to the Stonetear handle than the few items mentioned in this post. My quite liberal group of friends that work in comp sci very quickly changed their tone when the Stonetear/Combetta connections were posted on Reddit. The connections cannot be faked, that was Combetta posting. This is probably the most damaging this to come out about Hillary, and it’s largely been ignored.
I’m not an attorney. I don’t play one on TV and I didn’t stay at an Embassy Suite last night. However, to voluminous number of competent legal minds that read this blog, please tell me something. If so many deals of immunity are granted what leverage do you, as a prosecutor, really have? Isn’t this a bit like cutting the heart out of your own case?
I am a retired prosecutor. I handled many large cases, including gang murders, organized crime figures, and other cases too numerous to mention, the details of which could possibly keep you up at night.
Granting immunity to a witness needs to be done with great care, and only after a prosecutor is pretty sure of exactly what is going to be said after the grant of immunity is approved by the judge. You do not want to grant immunity, only to find out that the “witness” claims to know nothing or is obviously lying.
Above all, you do not want to grant immunity to people who are more culpable than the “target” of the investigation.
That the FBI proceeded in the fashion it did indicates to me that someone at the highest levels of the investigation had decided to kill this case at birth. The granting of immunity to the closest aides of the target (the target, of course, being Hillary) was not done to elicit testimony.
It was done so that these supposed witnesses would not have to assert their 5th amendment rights not to testify, which if done in mass fashion would have clearly indicated the presence of large scale criminal activity and presumed coverup thereof to the average voter.
They all should have been charged as appropriate. Let them testify under immunity after charges have been filed if they truly have anything to offer. I suspect their testimony would have been far more incriminating to Hillary if they were each facing lengthy prison terms.
This entire investigation was a whitewash, engineered by the White House in all likelihood, to clear the path for her election.

I’m not a lawyer ,just a smarta$$. I would say there never was any attempt at a case.
All I can say is she must have pictures of everyone with a dead girl or a live boy.
I’m more familiar with NCIS and AFOSI. I’m told the FBI works the same way. The investigation expands as it goes along, as the investigators discover more wrongdoing. Typically, if someone is truly guilty, what you originally suspected does not turn out to be the only crime.
That’s how it’s supposed to work.
The fact that it didn’t in this case shows Comey was in on putting the fix in from the start.
Can the President pardon someone for something they are not being prosecuted for? Could explain why Comey declined, if any prosecution would be for naught as Obama would pardon Hillary on the way out. But if Comey waits until Obama is out of office to prosecute (if she loses, anyway), then she’ll have lost the chance to be pardoned.
